Right now in baseball it's 10 teams right, 6 division leads and 4 wildcard teams. Going to 16 just seems like too much to me. Maybe 14? Part of the issue is the divisions are unbalanced in terms of competitiveness. But profit will drive the decisions more than the good of the game, of that I have no doubt. Deadspin offers a solution. At this point, we should settle for “World Series ending before Thanksgiving.” 1 Link to comment
cleo October 7, 2021 Share October 7, 2021 (edited) @Lantern7 I like the idea of the three second place teams doing a wild card. Deadspin article says match them up randomly- I was thinking yesterday the choice element is interesting if they could mix it in, like they were doing with the ties. Canadian Thanksgiving is this weekend lol. In past years I enjoyed watching playoffs over the holiday weekend. This year I don't know how much I will watch. I'm kind of heartbroken about the Jays. It was a special team. It was much easier the years when it was hopeless. Edited October 7, 2021 by cleo 1 Link to comment

If you're going to root against a team because they employ racist/sexist/homophobic/etc. players and/or cheat then it's hypocritical to not do the same when it's your team that does it. Plenty of fans have no issue with that (see anyone who roots for the Astros). The joy of winning often outweighs any moral outrage. Link to comment
cleo October 8, 2021 Share October 8, 2021 The bigger issue for me is I feel like the Bauers and Haders are more common that not. If not on the team than in the front offices or elsewhere in the organization. The tepid (imo) response to some if these situations makes me think MLB is not overly concerned with rooting it out until and unless it becomes a public relations issue. So tbh I always feel conflicted as a fan of any team bc I think MLB itself has tons of issues. 4 Link to comment

morriss October 10, 2021 Share October 10, 2021 Baseball should have a statistic that keeps track of how often a starting pitcher is in complete control, manager pulls him and bullpen implodes. After that I really didn't care that much, but I could summon up some cheer against the others. Edited October 13, 2021 by sagittarius sue 2 Link to comment

Not a wise choice to start the game. True, but it's not like we had a ton of other options. I think we had to hope DeSclafani had a good game since he did fine in his last outing against the Dodgers (if I remember right...or maybe he just did fine in his last couple of outings). Because if the Giants skipped DeSclafani and went with Webb on short rest and Webb couldn't duplicate his game 1 performance we would have had to use DeSclafani, Gausman or Wood in game 5. Webb in game 5 seems like the stronger option. Was listening to local sports radio and one of the hosts said some people they knew were hoping for a game 5. I have to say that anyone hoping for a game 5 is a casual Giants fan at best or a non-Giants fan in general. Because any serious Giants fan would have wanted to finish it and beat the Dodgers, not have to go to a game 5 where the Dodgers are finding their swings and anything can happen. Sigh.
