Sweet Fellowship: Duggars and Friends (aka the Bates Family and Other Featured Families Thread)

Message added by Scarlett45

If a person/family was never featured on any of the Duggar shows, and is not related to the Duggar family by blood or marriage, they do not need to be discussed here..

The Politics Policy is still in effect. A participants social media is NOT an invitation to discuss their political view points. Consider if discussion of certain social media posts will cause you to violate the politics policy BEFORE you hit the "Submit Reply" button.

We may all agree that David Rodriques is quite unfortunate looking, but let's refrain from comparing human beings to apes, its got way too much of a loaded history- please review the new Inclusion Policy updated May 1, 2022 , which details guidelines around discussing body type, capabilities, physical appearance etc. Additionally, using body size as an insult is not allowed.

Were the Rods invited to any other Bates wedding? I think both families have dropped them from their wedding invites. Gee, I wonder why?

She said in the blog post that it was their third Bates wedding. That post is worth a read. Sucks like a Hoover, that one. 😂

That post was painful to read. I was wondering if they were invited after Michael’s wedding.  Did the Rods leak the deets of a Duggar wedding or am I making things up?

Yes, Jill posted Jinger's invitation on the blog (she hadn't discovered Instagram yet). That was her last Duggar wedding. She hasn't talked about a Bates wedding since this one, and there have been many.

Jill’s take on a Bates wedding:

https://rodriguesfamilyministries.com/main/?p=2237

Funniest part, Jill explaining why they were invited, vs the reason she says the Duggar family was there.

So much going on there!

the suffering jill’s family had been going through at that time?

david’s huge gut.

the Duggars “act like” they care about people.

this has to be right after the josh scandal and there’s Anna with newborn Meredith.

it’s always Amy Foster, never just her sister Amy.

Oh and jinger’s absolutely orange face and raccoon eyes!  This wasn’t THAT long ago- she sure has changed (on the outside, that is).

I suspect Nathan is the one keeping it to a minimum, and good for him for not letting Jill exploit her pregnancy. He'd preached about SM and Jill still didn't get it.I'm glad to see he means it  :)

i think it also helps she spends time with the kellar parents and probably Nathan's brother. I just can't see any of them pulling out a phone to takes pics of prayer at dinner, their cart in the grocery store or selfies in church etc

How does Jill merit front row seats? It's not like they're huge donors or anything.

It's a Baptist church so no one else probably wants the front row.  They don't call them "Backrow Baptists" for nothing.  (I grew up in a Baptist church ((thankfully not as fundie as this one but still bad)) and it's true about the back rows.)

OMG. Seriously? They were screaming? In a hospital???

I believe the hall event was separate from the gender reveal/baby shower Jill threw for herself.

If I remember correctly, Jill decided to gather all of Amy's children and bring them to the hospital to stand in the hall outside their mother's room and yell how much they love her. The nurse stopped them because the noise was disruptive.

Jill could have brought one or two of the children over at a time to visit quietly, but no. It had to be a public performance with Jill at the center.

The nurse confronted Jill’s mother and told her that type of display was to never happen again. Jill was too cowardly to stick around and be confronted.

That is what I was thinking. The Kellers don't seem to be selfie obsessed. Neither does Nathan.

Didn't Nathan preach a sermon about how bad it is that people keep their faces stuck into their phones, or are addicted to social media, or some such thing? Ya know, instead of thinking Jesus 24/7/365. IIRC someone mentioned it upthread, and the delicious irony was that of course JillR had her phone out to record that sermon and posted all about it on Insta. What an oblivious self-absorbed bitch she is.

I haven't seen evidence that Nathan is a deep original thinker. He's still young and embedded in his cult family of origin, and that sermon probably reflects what his parents think and have talked about. If so, I think the Kellers' daily lives would be congruent with that, and they don't live with their phones in their hands. I'd be really surprised if either of the Keller parents would even know how to take a selfie. 🤣.  It wouldn't surprise me if Ma and Pa Keller think it's out of line to whip out your smartphone during a church service and I'd bet a hot dinner that JillR's church antics don't go down well with them, even if they don't say it to her face.

She probably thinks that she is above all that because social media is a technological arm of their "ministry" and she is "leading people to the lord" and "prasing JeeSAUCE" with every post.

I have an hypothesis about the Kellers.  I think that they were so happy to get Nathan married off to ANYONE who would take him that they overlook a LOT of what Jilly Bean does and says.  I'm pretty sure that their reputation has been severely tarnished in IBLP circles, what with Josh-U-ah's antics with other women (all Anna's fault, as per their belief system...never mind the guy is a freaking perv) and the other Keller kids who strayed from the flock, had children out of wedlock, and just generally didn't follow their parents headlong into the cult.  The only thing that could be keeping them socially afloat is the fact that Priscilla is married to fundie royalty and Esther is hitched to a full-time missionary (um...) and living life in Africa with their umpteen children.  So any legit fundie hitching would be seen as a good thing, despite the thought that they have to deal with the Rods for the rest of their lives.

How does Jill know her daughters' "eyes are all at least 20/20 vision"? Did she drag the entire group in for vision screenings? If she didn't brag about it to show what a good mother she is, I doubt it.

Knowing Jill, she probably asked the girls if they could see OK and told them if they said no, they'd have to wear ugly glasses.

This is a great compilation of Jill’s nonsense (from 2019):

Google:  “Rodrigues I yelled at my children” and read the article that pops up on their website.  That’s one of the sickest things I’ve ever heard of her doing.  Those children should be removed from that house immediately.  I can only imagine what goes on in that household that Jill doesn’t talk about on SM.  She is as sick and twisted as they come.

I agree with the nurse.  the Last think you need while delivering a baby is outside interferance.

I did actually call their church and left a message for the pastor to call me back. I do have concerns about her posting pics of people in worship, pics of children and in the "popcorn preaching" post she not only had video of a few, that i think were minors, but gave their names as well.

If you do get to speak with the pastor, don't forget to mention the goofy pictures taken AT THE ALTAR.  I doubt this is how he wants his church to be viewed.

oh I will mention the craziness in front of the altar and cross on Easter sunday. Jill and all filming clowning around and laughing.

I don't think the church probably realizes Jill posts that stuff to her followers and then it also picked up by us, freejinger, reddit etc

I am sort of laughing on this

“DON’T do drugs, smoke, drink, swear, view pornography!!  Stay away from gambling, and from ever stealing!!”

maybe she should have included "don't cheat on your faux home school" since they caught 2 cheaters in their house last year

No one was delivering a baby. Amy was in the hospital due to her accident.

Amy was in the ICU, paralyzed from the neck down, no less.  And, Jill hauled Amy's kids up to the hall outside the ICU to holler as loud as they could so Amy could hear them since kids weren't allowed in ICU.  Because there was nothing more important in the entire world than Jill getting those kids up there to take photos so she could brag on the internet about what a great person she is.  Other patients in the ICU are irrelevant if Jill sees a way to promote herself.

Boston, I think you might be confused because, at the time that her sister had the horrific accident and nearly died,  Jill was pregnant with her umpteenth kid.  She took the opportunity to throw a baby shower for herself in one of the hospital's public spaces, cafeteria or visitor's waiting area, as I recall.  And,  as part of the shower, made she a large container asking for donations and made sure it was displayed prominently in case anyone passing by wanted to give money.  And, of course, the money being collected was not to help her sister, permanently quadriplegic with a bunch of young kids who was obviously going to be needing many things in the coming months.  Oh, no!  The cash was money for Jill to spend on herself and, theoretically, her newest blessing.

Carlin Bates, whose daughter has some sort of vision issue, said she had never had her eyes dilated.  I suspect half of these fundie kids need glasses but nobody knows it because they don't look into it.  When I was in public school there were vision checks but that's not happening with this crew.

I can't believe Jill cares about the length of ppl's hair.Jesus, and many of his followers are usually depicted with long hair. What do you have to say about that,Jill? Were they ungodly,or is it just today's society that thinks Godly men should have short hair?

And many women, esp. as they get older, can't grow their hair long.I don't see many grandmothers with long hair. And maybe they have arthritis and can't style long hair.Did Jill ever think of that?

Omg she's nuts!

my oldest grand got her reading glasses this week - school eye testing recommend she have an eye exam. she is 9.

on the fundies that don't look into it. I think these children don't know how things should look. Mrcrazy8s got glasses at age 3 and his mom remembers him saying "i can see!"

one of our neighbors tells a story of getting glasses at age 8 or 9 and how she had never realized the leaves on trees could be seen separate. they had always been a big glob and she had no idea they looked different to other people

I was about 8-9 when I got my first glasses and I said the same thing as we were driving home. I had never been able to read the signs, etc along the car ride home. My mom cried when I said that because she never had any idea how bad my eyesight was.
