Sweet Fellowship: Duggars and Friends (aka the Bates Family and Other Featured Families Thread)

Message added by Scarlett45

If a person/family was never featured on any of the Duggar shows, and is not related to the Duggar family by blood or marriage, they do not need to be discussed here..

The Politics Policy is still in effect. A participants social media is NOT an invitation to discuss their political view points. Consider if discussion of certain social media posts will cause you to violate the politics policy BEFORE you hit the "Submit Reply" button.

We may all agree that David Rodriques is quite unfortunate looking, but let's refrain from comparing human beings to apes, its got way too much of a loaded history- please review the new Inclusion Policy updated May 1, 2022 , which details guidelines around discussing body type, capabilities, physical appearance etc. Additionally, using body size as an insult is not allowed.

"Our prayer is that we can miraculously pay off our RV soon (we owe just 3 years on it) so that we can more easily pay for the new expenses owning a home will incur. . ."

First, how did they actually qualify for a loan? And second, have they mastered the art of pity so well that they think one of these churches will pass the hat and collect enough to buy them their RV?

Well, it worked for them before.  This is the free van and trailer they got in 2013:

"Praise God, this is the brand new travel package that God provided for our family. We are so grateful to the dear Christian people that gave willingly to make this a reality for us. What a great God we serve!"

Anyone in any state can make an anonymous report to Child Protection agencies. I wonder if there have been any complaints along the way. They must have been resolved if so. The systems are overworked and underfunded and a judge would make a determination of abuse and/or neglect after evidence is gathered. Curious.

He didn't want it desperately enough to work for a living, of course. (Nor did she.) But, still, "desperately." Yeah.

God must sure be hot for us to have a lot of malnourished babies. Since he's obviously raining his approval of unbridled child-popping on these two.

The Rods and their contributors likely believe that when Jesus swoops in to set the world right, they will move to the head of the line. So there, haters. There's also something in this theology about wicked people's money being transferred to godly people. However, that makes sense only in the version where the godly people stay on the earth. Regardless of the details, there is serious nose thumbing. The Rodriguii are in it for the big payoff. We should all aspire to be just like them--unskilled, illiterate, tone deaf, and packed in an RV.

Whenever I've seen pictures of Rodriguii at various Bates/Duggar events, the people they're posing with have looks on their faces like "who the hell let these idiots through the door?". I get the impression the Rodriguii are like the kids who work overtime to be part of the popular click. They try hard but they're never accepted because they're so needy and obvious. I can't imagine who they'll marry Nurie off to. If I were a potential in-law I wouldn't want this family camping out at my house six months out of the year.

Which is too bad b/c Nurie seems to be mostly sane and deserves a nice, normal-for-these-people husband.

There are some people here who know every time the Duggars take their plane out, where they go, and how long they stayed ... you know all about their property transactions and their questionable midwife certifications.  You have sleuthed out all the details about that SOS place and it's missioncations. And that's just a partial list.

Can't one of you Columbos find out how the Rodriguii scored that house? I know if you applied yourself you could do it! Because there is a story there and I would REALLY like to know what it is.

While in bed a theory about her love of makeup came to mind, I wonder if she grew up watching Jim and Tammy Faye thus her love of makeup and JESUS!?

I bet she has an autographed picture of Tammy Faye on her wall in the grandma house.

There is just something wrong with the universe when a network will squeeze a whole season out of the months-old wedding (of the fourth kid to get married, no less) like it was Di and Charles 2.0, the highlight being some kind of lame ass manufactured drama about missing flower buckets ... but they will not give the Rodriguii Traveling Circus their own TV show.  IT IS FOR SHAME!

And please no one try to explain to me why they don't have their own show because NO REASON is good enough.   Not given the shit TLC airs on the regular.  If they can clean up the Duggars good enough to squeeze 900 seasons out of them with all the skeletons in their closet, they could get a couple of seasons out of Jill et. al. before one of the kids goes postal and ruins it all.

There is no excuse for not giving them a show, TLC.  No excuse!

It's really saying something when a family is too fucked up and weird even for reality TV.

If I were a TLC lawyer, I'd look at those obviously malnourished children, and think about the months the network would potentially spend filming babies and toddlers sleeping hung up in closets aboard an RV carrying 14 people, and tell my network to run for the hills away from this family. And I suspect that's happened, if they ever were dumb enough to consider putting them on TV.

Yeah, I know that previous TLC families have turned out to have all sorts of issues and bad stuff going on. However, none of those families has had -- going in -- the 1000 percent obvious signs of clear massive multiple child abuse and neglect and who knows what else allegations sticking out all over a dozen children. The other stuff was all hidden enough so that it had to be discovered. All they'd have to do with the Rodriguezes is put them on television for 10 minutes and no discovery would be needed.

It'd be network suicide to put them on -- especially for a network that already has a rap sheet of child sexual abusers that it's filmed at length before some of the truth came out.

Yeah well ... ... ... I know, I know.

But maybe TLC could at least squeeze out a documentary on them.  Maybe a Christmas special!  They love to sing and TLC could make some kind of "plausible deniability" claim when the truth came out ... and only us die-hards here would be the wiser.

So I finally got around to re-reading the Nurie auction site, and you know what stood out for me on the second reading?  JRod goes on and on about how she's taught Nurie from the beginning, and goes on to list all of her virtues (chaste, virtuous, wanting to serve God, wanting Mr. Right, helps with the younger kids, etc), but the one thing she doesn't mention?  Her intelligence.  So does she think Nurie isn't intelligent?  Or is being intelligent a fault in women?  Or just unimportant?  I know if I were a guy, looking for a woman to marry who would be home schoolin' our future kids, I'd truly want her to be as intelligent as possible, for the sake of those kids.

She already does - she has them on film repeatedly thanking her from saving them from having to go to the "evil" public schools where demons would grab their souls and Satan himself would sit at the teacher's desk, and their classmates would be a-smokin' and a-drinkin' and having sex in the aisles.  And where they'd have to share bathrooms with boys dressed as girls, just waiting to molest them.  Safe in their own little RV, they can sit at their fraction of a desk and study Wisdom booklets and the Bible in peace.

Just a guess but I kinda doubt they'd boast about intelligence in any of the kids. I think that in their faith you're supposed to be obedient to the Lord and not be misled by what you imagine are the bright ideas of your own mind.

So I expect that, while she would never ever brag about a girl's intelligence -- they're supposed to be first and foremost not just obedient to the Lord but to their husband -- she probably wouldn't stress it as a top quality for the boys either. I'd expect to see her brag on the boys' work ethic and godliness and willingness to lead everybody in the way of Christ. But I'd be surprised if she talked about intelligence. I think that, for some reason, they kind of see bragging on intelligence as being the same as putting yourself before God and worshipping something that can lead you in the wrong direction.

Jill R. says that she wouldn't even send her kids to a private Christian school (even if she could afford that, which she can't) because she couldn't trust the other students at that kind of a school.  She says that they might be a bad influence on her kids.  In other words, she wants her kids kept away from other Christian kids.  Is that possessive or what????????

No, intelligence is not important for the men nor especially the women. The women are supposed to defer to their headships no matter what anyway, so why encourage thinking, intelligence or education.

Intelligent women are more threatening to these men than stupid women who will be educating their sons. It's all about control and hierarchy, but the they l don't seem to understand how each generation gets stupider and stupider.

From quick baby names

The name Nurie has the following meaning:

"Light" or "my fire" in Arabic. Also possibly of Hebrew origin with the same meaning.

This name can be given to both baby boys and girls. It is a unisex name.

And yet, they like, respect, and quite possibly even revere, ministers and missionaries.  Do they think these people ought to be stupid?  The putative spiritual leaders of this world/their movement?  How are they supposed to be smart if they have the IQs of the parents *and* are taught by morons in the bargain?  How are the boys supposed to be intelligent enough to lead households etc., if the schoolmarms doing their teaching have IQs of 90?  I grant nothing would have stopped Abraham Lincoln, but we've clearly found no Lincolns in the Duggars or Rodriguii (shouldn't the tract printer, find it important to spell the tracts properly, for example?  is David supposed to be handing out inferior product so that the unwashed lumpen sinners can be distracted by how Christians are apparently too stupid to know how to spell?  And so on).

The video that stood out the most, and actually made me cry, was where they were cutting the coconut. Mom gets to savor it, slowly and make yummy noises, while her kids look at her with big eyes and are practically drooling. My mother never had the first bite of anything; in fact she always took the last of the food. She served up everyone else's plates before she did her own, and she still does that to this day even though I'm in my 30s and haven't lived at home in years. That is just something I assumed was instinctive and part of being a parent - you make sure your kids are taken care of, THEN you have what is left. It just was so heartless and rude for the father to film his wife savoring a treat while their underfed kids looked on.

I'm intrigued by the craziness of the Rodriguez family, but it's almost too hard to look into their lives without crying.

I don't know why one wouldn't *want* to buy things for their children.  I sometimes have to stop myself buying cute little things just because they "remind me" of my friend's kids, and seem like something they'd like.

I had a coworker who thought nothing of paying full price for outfits for herself and had a collection of very nice jewelry given to her by her husband (on command I am sure).  But this same woman wouldn't spend a cent on clothes for her kids.  Everything they wore was hand-me-downs (many from me).  She wouldn't let them out in the snow because they didn't have boots (which she wouldn't buy).  And they never played sports or any activities that would have cost her time or money.  One turned out fine, the other is a rather strange girl who still treats herself the same way.  Even though she has a decent income, she lives on rice and beans, cheap clothes, and has a futon and lawn chairs in an otherwise empty apartment. (And both children moved far, far away!)

Fundies are a constant contradiction. Children are blessings, yet God, dads and then moms are to be revered and children are to obey. Love thy neighbor, yet run and get the police when they use a bathroom. Dress modestly, but spend more time on clothing, make-up and hair than the average drag queen (no offense to drag queens).

Don't get me wrong, I've waited until my kids were in bed and then at the last of the ice cream once or twice (from the freezer, not the trash), I may have flipped off a driver or two in my day and I've trashed my bedroom with clothes trying to find the right outfit once or twice. But all those things are few and far between and I don't claim to be the perfect person with perfect beliefs and my goal in life is not to hold myself as an example of the right way to be nor persuade others to live as I do.

I think that getting oneself expelled from a country where homosexuality is illegal for hate speech against gay people has got to have reached some perverse level of fundie-crazy achievement.  Not just anyone can be that nuts.

Zsuzanna, in addition to her fundieness, believes herself to be somewhat of an expert in holistic medicine/homeopathic remedies.  Her medical advice on the blog is priceless.  First and foremost, nobody should ever go to a hospital to have a baby, ever.

By save does he mean literally?  As in the man was going to rip open the cabin and fling himself out rather than hear one more word?   I admit it, I am snarky and can be quite mouthy with the right circumstances.  If anyone did that to me while I was held captive in a metal tube flying through the air I would either speak to the flight attendant about moving me immediately or I would begin discussing things that boy wouldn't want to hear.  Fucking whippersnapper.
