Juliegirlj January 1, 2018 Share January 1, 2018 OMG, just watched the 1st episode of the new season and it is cringeworthy!! Tony got even more fat, and behaved downright haughty when his parents went to Christine’s house for dinner. I was embarrassed for all. Tony’s family looked very uncomfortable and the Brown’s all acted like idiots. Apparently Meri bought her Grandmother’s childhood home which is now a B&B, and Annie (Christine’s Mom) will be living there and running it. Dear God, please don’t turn this into a spin-off.......? Meri said the whole plan was top secret, and only she and Annie knew about it at the time the episode was filmed. Wonder how Christine was feeling when she found out after the fact?! 7 Link to comment

Just watched as well and great summary! Also noted Tony’s (and Mykelti’s) added size. The way Tony mouths off to Kody and the entire family is disrespectful. Tony hides it under the guise of “joking” and “sarcasm,” but it’s just an excuse to be an a-hole. His jokes are base and not even funny. He’s definitely not coming across as the most intelligent person. I think Kody is a joke but he’d be totally justified strongly putting Tony in place before he gets completely out of control. Seems like this season will be a pretty glorious train wreck, maybe even with a plane crash added on top. I have to admit that few shows make me LOL or truly gasp in shock more than this shit show. So many ridiculous moments in just the first episode. Tony’s grandparents looking terrified at dinner not knowing wtf was happening bc Tony was too busy scarfing down lasagna instead of translating for his family and making them feel comfortable. Christine’s mother rolling up in a clapped out jalopy of a minivan. Meri braying nervous laughter as she unveiled her “secret” B&B plan to Robyn’s horror while Mariah instantly laughed at and dismissed the idea. Mykelti matter of factly saying that 400 people will attend their wedding since she and tony have so many friends. Tony saying his family brings six packs and forties to wedding and groom gets to keep the extra. Kody freaking out about the cost while the wedding coordinator slowly realized what a crazy train just rolled into the venue. And my very fav moment - when arranging the tables for dinner and Kody got outvoted on the set up, he tantrum that started with “This is so stupid I want to walk out!!” It’s gonna be a great season on this board, friends. Happy New Year! 27 Link to comment

Popular Post LilWharveyGal January 3, 2018 Popular Post Share January 3, 2018 (edited) Ok, those of you who wanted more, grab your alcohol and/or barf bags! Spoiler Previouslies: The Brown-Brush wedding. Kody wouldn't walk 1,000,000 miles for one of your smiles, my Meri. Fun-having Mykelti and Tony want to talk to dad. Mariah comes out. Meri can't dill with her fillings. The show begins! Christine is glopping some kind of food onto some other kind of food and putting the whole shebang into the oven. What is that? On the couch, Kody explains that Tony's family is coming over and it's their first time meeting. Christine is nervous. Kody goes on about the language barrier while Christine worries that the only polygamists Tony's family have been exposed to are FLDS. (Or something. I got distracted looking at the bags of delicious dried mangoes on Christine's counter.) Then Christine admits that the reason she's anxious about meeting Tony's mom is because Tony's mom might be upset that Christine wasn't all gung-ho about Tony in the beginning. Tony and his siblings arrive at the house, and they have a whole lot of hair. Tony & sibs move furniture from Robyn's house over to Christine's. (Hey wait a minute, I thought Meri's house was supposed to be the house for get-togethers and entertaining?) The sibs, like all folks the Browns have ever interacted with on the show, respond civilly to the requisite, "Are you prejudiced against polygamy?" question. Apropos of nothing, on the couch Kody attempts to flex his biceps. Adventures in furniture arranging begin. Seriously, these people have hosted HOW many huge gatherings by now, and they still don't know what to do? Come on. Interestingly to me, at least three of the wives own the exact same dining set because all of the tabletops match. Mykelti whines that the point of the dinner is for the Browns to get to know Tony's family, and how can they do that if they're stuck in one seat? More table shuffling. And then @HelloOutThere's moment comes and it's pretty epic - Kody threatening to walk out with these petulant words, "This has been planned by an emotional woman, not an engineer!" Ok, Kody, go find us an engineer and we'll listen to him. In the meantime, STFU. After the commercial Tony's parents show up. Introductions and awkward hugs. Tony comments that they're having lasagna, which is not at all what that glop at the beginning looked like. Maybe it's mock lasagna. Kody makes a toast while everyone lifts a glass with what looks like a variety of neon colored kool-aid. Tony proves his worth by not translating to his family which dish of "lasagna" has meat and which is vegetarian. Later, Tony, Mykelti, Tony's family, and Kody are sitting around while a bunch of Browns work in the kitchen. Tony notes that this is the upside of having multiple wives. Kody protests that he helps sometimes. Truely, Sol, and a baby sister of Tony's are then asked to be flower girls/ring bearer in the wedding. Truely, my spirit animal, confesses on the couch that she's not excited to participate. Tony asks Kody what feels like a very producer-driven question - do you want to have more kids? At first Kody says that he needs to grow up and that he'd be too old to be around for any future children, but Robyn makes a wishy-washy comment about that not being 100%. On the couch Christine notes that Mykelti is very baby hungry, but that Christine has talked to Mykelti and Tony and they have a very strong financial plan. HA! Tony's family prepares to leave. Again with the, "how do you feel about polygamy?" question. You know the producers are just waiting for the day when someone freaks out and says, "Ewwww, gross!!" Tony's parents take the high road and say they'll respect and support him marrying into a plyg family. And now we move on to the Meri portion of the program. Go refill your glass with something stronger or grab a clean bag. So way back when they were traveling to Madison's wedding, Meri and Annie, Christine's mom, were driving together (why?) and Meri took Annie through Parowan, Utah. She showed Annie a house that used to be in Meri's family which is now a B&B. It's coming up for sale and Meri goes to talk to the owners. Annie and Meri greet with a big hug in front of the B&B, which implies to me that they didn't travel together a second time. Interesting. The big idea is that Meri will buy the B&B and Annie will live there and take care of it. We get a brief history lesson on Meri's ancestors and how polygamy was practiced back in the day (hint: many doors were involved). Then a flashback to the Lehi house while Meri comments that Kody loved being able to run around in it and easily access everyone's space. Meri's talking head continues and you'll be SHOCKED to hear that she's nervous about presenting this idea to the rest of the family. She envisions a B&B and combined wedding venue...which is what the building already is used for, so way to use your imagination, Meri. Meri continues. For years she has been trying to figure out what to do with herself. (How many years? Did I imagine the going-back-to-school, Catfish Sam, and entertaining-at-the-wet-bar sub-plots? Not to mention LLR which hasn't been on the show.) She hasn't been this excited or passionate about anything in a really long time. (Not Sam? Not the latest LLR prints? Really?!) Annie is also excited. So it's time to break the news to the family and - surprise, surprise - Meri goes to talk to Robyn first. Actually, she first sets up an appointment with Robyn on the phone while polishing the wet bar. I kid you not. Robyn comes over and Meri breaks the news just before Mariah comes into the room. Meri is kind of awkward and Mariah is surly. Flashback to Mariah's coming out. Meri repeats her B&B plan to Mariah. In Robyn's talking head, she worries that Meri won't be around for the family. Mariah wonders if Meri has the money for it. HA! Meri says that that's why she has to discuss it with the family. No, Meri didn't have six children, but if she had they would all want to own a B&B and therefore she deserves the money. (Ok ok, she didn't actually say that. My brain just filled in her argument.) Mariah continues to be unexcited. At this point, Robyn has a talking head that touches on the Brown's revisionist history of the catfish situation, which annoys me too much to even discuss. The gist is that Robyn feels that Meri was already distant, and she worries that the B&B would take her away again. But, according to Robyn, the silver lining to Meri's absence was that it allowed Robyn and Christine to get close. Meri doesn't want to talk about that little fact. Robyn counsels Meri to not get upset if the family doesn't burst into joyous song upon hearing her plans. We change gears again as Kody, the wives, Aspyn, and baby Ariella help search for a venue for Tony and Mykelti's wedding, which is four months away. Way to cut it close, Browns. Road trip to a country club in St. George, Utah. Christine introduces herself to the venue coordinator as, "one of Mykelti's moms." On the couch the family lauds this concept, but to me it's incredibly sad. They tour the bar but Tony and Mykelti are very anti-alcohol. On the patio, Mykelti wants to hang a billion twinkly lights and Tony wants lanterns a la Tangled. The theme colors are maroon, silver, teal, and yellow. (Even if I hadn't already seen the wedding pictures I'd think that was an unattractive idea.) The happy couple expect 400 guests to attend. Kody suddenly begins to worry about the cost and makes his patented wrinkled caveman brow on the couch. Christine attempts to calm him by telling him that she didn't know about the number of guests, either. And that, folks, is where the episode ends. taragel January 6, 2018 Share January 6, 2018 I watched it tonight. Thought it was interesting that Robyn said when Meri was being catfished, Robyn was being lied to that Meri was planning to leave the family and was cheating on Kody. Is she really too dumb to put it together that Meri was having an emotional affair? I mean why do they not really see that the catfisher would not have been an issue if Meri hadn't been into it/"him"/wanting to cheat? I just wonder if they're covering for TV or truly just don't understand what actually was going on there. And I thought it was hilarious that Mykelti and Tony actually think 400 people will show up for their CEREMONY. I don't care what "culture" you're talking about -- I'm pretty sure the bulk of guests just show up for the reception/food/drinks. I also don't understand why Meri isn't jumping at the excuse/idea to go run the B&B herself. It's a perfect excuse not to have to deal with the family bullshit but to make it seem like she's still part of them/trying to contribute to the family income, etc. 10 Link to comment

They could easily make some new drama at a B&B setting where there's new guests, visitors, etc. If they felt real brave they could even make it an issue that the other family members are mad she's out there doing the B&B thing. 4 Link to comment

I think she is the type to walk into a Macdonalds with no skills and think instead of being a fry cook she should totally manage the whole thing. Obviously to her mind, she is better than the average schmuck and deserves to have a job to meet her mental station. Never mind working your way toward it. It's like the B&B she love the idea of it, she loves the idea of owning it but is above day to day drudgery of operating it. Sadly, I may be related to one or two of those that rule the world with their whit, intellect and keen observation for their cup-o-joe. Perhaps that's why I recognize Meri. Reminds me of an episode of Little People, Big World. I think it was Amy's birthday, and Matt arranged for them to stay at a B&B. The concept was that Amy (who had talked about turning their farmhouse into a B&B when the kids left home) would spend a day shadowing the owner . . . and - in theory - it was a nice thought. But it looked like Amy's interest in "running" a B&B took a nose-dive when the owner was in a room making beds and cleaning bathrooms. Amy said, "Don't you have people who do this?" Owner said, "Yes, but when they don't show up and guests are booked, the owner becomes the maid." All of a sudden, Amy didn't think being the grand dame of her own B&B looked like so much fun. She hadn't put sheets on her kids' beds in years, and probably couldn't find a vacuum cleaner in the clutter of her house. At least Meri keeps a clean house. I think Tony is young and egotistical and hasn't a clue how he comes across. I am more than positive he thinks the negative responses are from people just being "mean", and not anything to do with the things he says. I am seriously wondering how that first year of marriage went. I don't believe there is a script, but TLC probably says, "Why don't you all have a family meeting about __________", or "let's sit on the couch and discuss the upcoming weddings", or whatever. I think Tony is young and egotistical and hasn't a clue how he comes across. I am more than positive he thinks the negative responses are from people just being "mean", and not anything to do with the things he says. Kohola3 January 12, 2018 Share January 12, 2018 Wasn't the initial BS that he was "in banking" like he was some bigwig? Nobody bought that about 8 seconds after seeing him. 5 Link to comment
