Lori Laughlin has obviously had some work done - but it is really well-done.  If you didn't know she was 54, you wouldn't be looking for the "update" signs.

You mean you don't believe the commercials she does for Cindy Crawford's skin care products?

I am nominating the Garage Sale Pandora's Box ending for the most convoluted explanation of the crime monologue.  It seemed like Lori Laughlin's explanation went on for ten minutes.  There were so many players, locations and motives that it was laughable.

That made the whole convoluted plot worth watching.

Okay so I just got a chance to see the series with Holly Robinson Peete. It looks like they took one of the old wigs from the Aurora Teagarden series  set and gave it to Holly.  I guess the budget is tight. The wig color was horrible and her makeup foundation was so bad at one point that I had to do a double take. Holly is not an unattractive woman but somehow they made her look that way. Is it a requirement to have a strange name for the lead? There is no Chemistry between Holly  and Rick Fox. overall a no for me. I hope the books are not this bad

All the mystery movie series are based on books, that's where the names come from, so we can't blame Hallmark for that.

The movies are completely different than the books. For starters Billie is a man in the books.

I've always had the hots for Rick Fox.

I read where Susan Lucci has signed on to do her own version of the Movies and Mysteries.  I've never, ever been a SL fan, so this series will be a big no from me.  And in all reality, I'm surprised they hired a woman in her age group to star in a string movies.  I'm not being ageist here, but networks want the coveted 18-49 year old demographic, and an actress who's going to be 72 by the time these shows run in 2019, will not interest the prime demo.

Susan Lucci is fun in a campy way. I loved her in Devious Maids.  As for the prime demo, are they really Hallmark's prime demo?  If they are, I could see them going for the camp factor.  From what I understand, the Golden Girls do quite well even with the young'ins.  Lori Loughlin is 54 and she is all over the channel. Jack Wagner (58) and Josie Bisset (47) led a series and they aren't prime demo attractive.  Or Holly Robinson Peete (53).

I know Susan is 20 years older than that but she doesn't usually play "grandma."

Love at Sea was boring and dragged on forever. I feel like Hallmark is putting less effort into their attempts at diverse movies.

I was also distracted by Alexa's face as it looks like she had some bad work done.

Couldn't agree more.  I think Hallmark is losing its way after being drunk with success with their Holiday movies.  Sometimes, less is more and Hallmark is making too many movies and just throwing them out there.  And, the movies are basically all the same, just with different actors and locations.   I didn't like Love on Safari  or Love at Sea.

Thank you for also noticing that about Alexa.  Her face used to have some character but she looks so bland now.  Audrey Landers looks good but reminds me a little now of Loni Anderson.

I watched the latest Lori Loughlin mystery. The most remarkable thing about it was that her daughter was supporting the exact same hair style I had circa 1996.

The mystery was rather convoluted, but I always appreciate when they give her at least a pretext to be interrogating all of the suspects.

The way they framed the reality show bits was kind of odd. Almost every time the whole crew was standing around ready to go when Lori Loughlin finally swanned in, shrugged off her coat... and they just started filming.

The commercials they run are depression, Ph balance downstairs, cooking tools, lesbian mechanic telling us how to lose weight, home care aides, and fibromyalgia. So women 35-65 years old.

At this point I have come to dread the Christmas movies...start too early.  By the time December 1st rolls around, we are kind of tired of Christmas.  And that is a shame.

I wonder how they will use Susan Lucci in the movies?  There is no way they can palm her off as an ingenue; it's bad enough that they do that to a couple of the 50-something actresses. (I am over 70 and I know from what I speak). And I can't see her wanting to play someone's mother.  A detective/cook/orchard owner/farmer who is in business with her son or daughter?  A widow who solves crimes - or runs her dead husband's company.  Or runs her own company; but probably a widow.

I am watching the latest Garage Sale Mystery and am admiring the chemistry between Lori L and the schlubby detective...natural and funny.  He is not nearly as attractive as her husband; but he kind of shines with her in the scenes they are in together.  Tonight she is wearing a frilly apron in heels; chopping veggies in the kitchen.  Still like this series better than most.

I don't know what is with her partner's eyes - really thick fake eyelashes; she kind of looks like she has lost weight.  I am hoping her old flame does not turn out to be the bad guy; would like to see her have an actual boyfriend and not just be a once-in-awhile sidekick.  She hasn't been featured as much this season as in the past...has she?

You can never underestimate the value of Q ratings and older performers rating high with the 18-49 demo.

Devious Maids was rejected at ABC, and it looked like it was going to be a no go anywhere else despite Marc Cherry shopping it around.. but Susan Lucci did a 2 or 3 episode guest stint on Army Wives and Lifetime noticed an increase in viewers during her episodes and noticing Susan Lucci scored high in their Q rating research so Lifetime picked up Devious Maids and it ran for 3 seasons.

I think Hallmark Channel doesn't just go for the 18-49 demo.. I think they're looking to appeal to the baby boomers as well... so I could see Susan Lucci appealing to them as well.

I didnt even feel like we saw the best parts of taking a cruise. They could've filmed that movie in someone's backyard for how little they actually utilized their environment.

Details on 2 new 2018 HMM Christmas movies https://www.etonline.com/hallmark-reveals-casts-for-two-christmas-movies-exclusive-108002

Alicia Witt is returning for 6th Christmas movie - but first on HMM while the other stars a first-timer, Tori Anderson from Blindspot.

I've often wondered given that not as many folks have access to HMM compared to main Hallmark channel, leading to fewer viewers and presumably lower advertising rates, whether the budgets for the HMM movies are lower.

I agree. Her first few movies were watchable, but now she overacts in all of them and has these weird acting tics. No longer a fan of hers.

I like Tori on Blindspot so am interested to see her in a Hallmark movie, along with Steven Weber playing a pilot again. Too bad it’s on a channel I don’t have.

I hated it. I used to like Alexa PV but was her voice always this high-pitched? Or was she aiming to make her character super chirpy and it came off as too much caffeine? I'm also not a fan of married couples in the lead roles, especially when there just isn't any chemistry that comes across on-screen. They're also not at the same level, acting-wise, which didn't help because the script gave them cringeworthy lines and situations. (Or maybe that's why Alexa PV was overacting, to compensate for Carlos?)

Really the solution for a no-show English celebrity chef is to pretend to be him (complete with terrible attempt at an English accent) in front of people who presumably knows what the chef looks like? Even if they explained that away, seeing the terrible impression was something I fast-forwarded through. Carlos' character also did some kind of offensive Asian stereotyping thing, which I can't recall, because I deleted the movie as soon as the credits started. And pretty sure a cruise director's solution for another no-show Broadway-level performer isn't to take the spotlight for themselves. And who was the woman in an officer uniform who seems to be in charge yet micromanaging everything? To tell someone on probation that they were in jeopardy because they needed to "go the extra mile" to make sure that everyone knew of a single event's location change was unbelievable, unless they wanted to set up a case for creating a hostile work environment.

And ITA with

I don't mind them separately but they're one of those cases where a real life couple just is a chemistry and charisma suck when paired together on screen.  Sometimes duos work both in real life and reel life and other times they only work in one but not the other.

True. I ended up fast forwarding.  It's really sad when The Love Boat special on location cruise episodes did it better.

I was looking forward to Pearl In Paradise because I thought it looked different than the same old fare and it actually lived up to my expectations.

I thought the leads had nice chemistry and were allowed to showcase personalities.  The lead guy was funny but not in an over-the-top way.  Characterization was good but not ridiculous. (Well, except for the fact that the lead woman might have been good at her job but in all probability was not suited for the promotion she was up for based on what we know of her flaws.)

It has a name that, when I see it in the cable guide in the future, I'll know what movie it is.  Hallmark even showed restraint in that none of the characters were named Pearl.

There were no "not right for the leads" significant others we had to deal with.

There was some beautiful Fijian scenery and yet it was different than what we got with the Cameron Mathieson/Catherine Bell movie.  Plus, some unexpected philosophy that was a bit more believe than cheese.

There was a silly and, IMO, unnecessarily short misunderstanding towards the end but the movie redeemed itself with what I consider to be a genuinely romantic gesture.

I do think I have to kiss a lot more Hallmark frogs before I find a Hallmark Prince but they still come along every once in a while.

I'm not sure if I've reached peak Hallmark viewing but most of the movies this year have either been simply *okay* or "I pass" save for One Winter Weekend & The Beach House. I can't remember the last time I watched others more than once with excitement. And here I was looking forward to Summer Nights. Sigh.

I skipped the Lacey one. The Summer to Remember one was just...weird to me. Bell and Mathison's chemistry was non-existent. He seemed like more of an annoyance to her than anything else and he, weirdly enough, had more chemistry with his bro/worker friend than her. I didn't mind Love At Sea, though I almost turned it off because Alexa's over the top acting annoyed me from the start. After a long day of cleaning, it was an easy going movie to relax with. I had to turn my brain off because some of the logic fails that others mentioned here took me out of the movie a few times. And that ending. It suffered from the same WTF logic as her wedding one that I couldn't stand. Seeing William R Moses was a super surprise cause I had the biggest crush on him when I was younger. Hee hee.

I was looking forward to tonight's movie cause I like Jill Wagner (did she get cheek implants or botox or something?)  and it seemed different from the usual, but it kinda turned out to be the same old "boss sending out main character to get a story for a promotion" story with a prettier setting. I liked Malakai and his daughter though. He needs his own Hallmark movie. Preferably shirtless. But I digress. I agree with you, Irlandesa about the title. Kudos on that and the fact there were no other relationships in progress to break. I may revisit this one the future to see if I feel more yay about it.

I'll watch next week's because I love me some Autumn Reeser movies. Hallmark upped the budget on some beautiful locations. Now they just need to get some awesome stories to match.

Damn it, I forgot the movie was on tonight. I loved the lead in Dater’s Handbook and thought he has great comedic timing and acting, so am happy he did well with Jill Wagner (who tends to have good chemistry with her leads). Didn’t know they actually filmed in Fiji as well. Hope it’s on again tomorrow.

I caught some reruns this weekend and was pleasantly surprised - Summer Villa was fun.  I think Hillarie Burton is pretty good and comes across as a natural actor, and she and Victor Webster had good chemistry.  She must have written the world’s shortest book, given that he read it in just a few hours, but it was fun nonetheless.

Sun, Sand, and Romance was dumb, but Paul Campbell is a find.  He was cute and came across as fun onscreen.  The idea he would chuck everything and run away because he didn’t want to practice divorce law, like it was the only type of law he had ever heard of, made me roll my eyes hard.

Marc Bendavid was another bright spot in a terrible movie.  Summer in the City is painful, but he was a cutie.

It is unfortunate timing that Hallmark is showing Surprised By Love, a 2015 Hilarie Burton movie, the same weekend that Tim Conway's family announced he is suffering from dementia and practically unresponsive.  In the movie, he plays Hilarie's grandfather who spends most on the movie faking these symptoms.

I swear, I like Autumn Reeser & Marc Blucas, and they had fine chemistry... but Season for Love was as generic as its title, if not even more (if that's possible) and I just got bored, as I felt I'd already seen this one half a dozen times, whether with a different location, a different type of competition, or a different time of year.

Yeah.  I stopped about twenty minutes in.  I like both of the leads but there was nothing about it that made me really want to keep watching.  Maybe I'll come back to it when I pack for vacation.  I think I've been spoiled by the "on location" scenery of the past few movies that the return to generic small town wasn't working for me.

I switched to watching Like Father on Netflix as my background noise and it was interesting to contrast that movie with Love At Sea.  Love At Sea didn't really highlight the ship very well while Like Father very much did.

It's weird. This was the one I was least looking forward to and ended up kind of liking the best (and by best I mean it was cute and didn't bug me as much). I agree though, it wasn't really smart releasing it with the other exotic locale ones. This could have easily been put out with the September movies. Yeah, I didn't even mind it, really. It's just that i'm really bored with the "small town competition that the lead ends up winning, while finding love with one of the competitors, a handsome rival she knew beforehand" formula. When it's at Christmas time, I can deal with it... but otherwise, meh.

Yeah, that's true. They really need to step outside their generic story bubble. I think they got way too comfortable with their facebook comments that proclaim each new movie as the bestestestest everrrrr. I wonder what the heck happened to their old go-to writers that did some good movies back in the day.

Agreed with all the above re: Autumn and Mark’s chemistry. Autumn is officially my ‘girl crush’ and Mark resurrected my crush from the Buffy days. I preferred him in Season for Love rather than the Miss Christmas movie. He plays the laid back, jovial character better than that grumpster that he was in the latter.

While I am glad that there was no major misunderstanding that drove them apart, I thought TPTB were heading in that direction when the manager showed up and then the ex. Especially when the ex told Tyler, “I came here for Rosie. . . And for you.”

I laughed when the manager told Jay at the dance, “show a city girl how it’s done down south.” Yeah, he will lol. Sorry, my mind was in the gutter.

Finally, can George get a spin-off movie? What’s his story? Martin Roach’s voice is so deep and smooth. Plus I found it adorable that George stopped by the house to see if they wanted to attend the dance. His character had such warmth and joy that I found myself looking for him in each scene.

So agree, WarmSkull (love the name btw). He's much better and more alive here than Miss Christmas. I would love to see him and Autumn in a more exciting movie. They would really take off with it.

And yes about George! Love him! Thanks for posting the actor's name. I remember him as Stephen Buck from Cradle of Lies (with a psycho Dylan Neal-good movie, that one) since that's where I first saw him and I kept seeing him in different things I watched.  Nice to see him in a Hallmark movie. I would so follow him in his own movie.

I checked his IMDB and it looks like he's in an upcoming Christmas movie later this year with Kimberly Williams-Paisley and (this is a trip) Kurt Russell as Santa Claus.
