He's not blackmailing him.  Leo offered to give him information about Sonny that Xander could use to secure the CEO position from Victor.

No, he loved them for real. Tony was bad too in his own right. However, he started to change after he fell for Renee and his mother came to town. It is what caused him to clash with Stefano, he did not want to continue to do bad things.  Renee was his half sister but they were not biological siblings. Tony was not Stefano's biological son and he was raised by Stefano while Renee was not.

Hell, send Johnny to Salem, I'm sure Grandpa Roman and Grandpa John can straighten him out.  Or big brother Will, Uncles Eric, Uncle Rex, Uncle Chad.  Part of me understands Rafe but considering him and Sami sleeping together it just seems like an odd request from Sami, especially if Lucas is also there.

EJ was slowly recovering and communicating with them until RC had to have an excuse to bring Rafe to Italy for rope angst.

On today's show, when Kate said to Gabi(agreeing to help her), "Well, I will do it for Chad", wouldn't it have made more sense to say "I will do it for Arianna", since Arianna IS her Great-Grandchild.  And on a shallow note, I liked the pink color on Abigail but why do they put such a petite young woman into such over-sized clothes?!  It was a lovely pink coat, but Waaay too big on Kate Mansi, or is this a fashion-look I am not aware of?

Spent my snow day today trying to catch up.....loved the family dinner with Jack, Jen, Abby & JJ.  They all seem so comfortable and natural together.  Jack and Jen's hey day was my fave days of the show and I was so happy to still see the spark they have.  Some things never change!  I know we got renewed but did they get a bigger budget or new makeup/hair/stylists because it seems that everyone looks fantastic lately!  The hair and makeup are perfection as is the wardrobes ( although they are still dressing Gabi is non-season appropriate clothes....its January, not June people).  Hope has never looked better....same with Julie...and everyone really.  I covet all their clothes!  And the dialog seems better too...more natural.

I could be wrong, but I think we are going to get a flashback where Xandy gets Leo drunk, and Leo passes out, and Xander then comes across a drunk Sarah, and that those two did it.  

It seems like the storylines are now being told in "flashback" scenes that we never actually saw.

That's what I wondered....if Xander got Leo drunk?  And then encountered a drunk Sarah in the hall?  Sarah seems to have a drinking problem & making un-wise choices.

Tribeca, you are SO much nicer than me.  I sorta cheered when Eric opened the door and saw Sarah cuddling with that sociopath, Xander.  I've been getting progressively less and less impressed with Eric as to me, it seems that his pomposity grows by leaps and bounds every week.  Even his husky, monotoned, "I'm-the -saddest-sad that ever sadded" voice is grating on me.   It's bad enough listening to him distort who Nicole really was so he can fit her into an image he's comfortable with but his glowering judgement of Rex after the crap Eric himself has pulled was one step too far today.  Eric thinks he's the hottest thing in shoe leather and IMO he's as full of crap as Brady is.

I agree, though, about Brady. He DID seem less dumb today!  I know it can't last, but a day without Brady raging or threatening someone with bodily harm AND not saying something incredibly stupid is a great day in Brady Land!

I know, I know, Rex is a manchild, he's not responsible and he's certainly not relationship material but I like him so much better than any of the other guys in his age group.  He's got a nice disposition, he's not pompous or judgey like Eric and Brady, he's not a psychopath like Xander or Stefan O!, checked out like Chad and Will - he's essentially a normal, nice guy, sorta like Eli.  Not somebody anyone should be planning to marry, but I so prefer him to the rest.  

For me, it's always a good day when I see Kate and an even better one when I see her and Gabi together.  

Oh yeah, we also had Cousin It aka Abigail stopping by Hell House with the baby looking like she whipped together an outfit from about 12 of Julie's muu muu's and bloomers.  Yeah.......what guy could resist her?

Thank you for mentioning this @Frozendiva!  This has been bugging me since the beginning.  Who carries around a kiddie pink knapsack as their diaper/baby bag?  There are beautiful trendy expensive bags out there for moms and dads, and we've got both Abby and Chad slinging some child's pink knapsack over their shoulders?  WTF?

Monday's ep was mostly meh to me.

Also, Abby spent almost the entire ep with her nose turned up. I don't think I've ever seen such an entitled character who seems to do nothing but look down her nose at others. She's not the only entitled character on soaps but the others offer something to the canvas. For all the praise she gets from others in Salem she brings nothing of value to stories

Did I miss them mention where Thomas was? Did he escape? Is he out running in the streets?

Not sure how I feel about things being told in flashbacks. Once in a while is fine but I don't want it to be a crutch the show relies on too often.

In today's episode we got some great Sonny/Brady moments were they were not only civil but downright friendly to each other--I do like seeing them getting along and who knows, maybe Brady will come up with a plan to get Leo out of Sonny's life that doesn't involve anyone dying.

I can't with Eve's desperation for Jack--it's not fun to watch her manipulate a person with amnesia and I'm not trying to be cruel but has MA gotten work done to his face?  Jack's expressions just seem strange now, like his face is putty.

Eric's anger at Sarah's sleeping with Xander is way over the top, especially for someone who constantly talks about Nicole and how she's this close to sainthood.  I sense more angst coming regarding Sarah--oh boy :)

Agreed.  I'm a little tired of Salem's Torquemada and his Inquisition of everyone else's faults.

A little more of that old "let he without sin cast the first stone" and a lot less of the whole "you disappointed me", Eric, you insufferable bonehead.

I mentioned last week, given how masterfully he created an escape hatch for himself re: the Marlena shooting, that it was kinda odd that Xander let Leo outmaneuver him.  So while I still think it would have been more fun to make Xander bi or sexually fluid in this situation, I did appreciate him coming up with a workaround in this situation - drugging Leo and then trying to charm him into thinking they did the deed - even if Leo did eventually see through him.

Eric needed to dial it down a whole bunch with Sarah.  And Rex, sweetie?  Kate is like the last person on Earth to ask relationship advice from.

I loved it when he asked her what she wanted when she slept with Zander.  I so wish she'd said, "I wanted to get laid", and see the prissy shock on Eric's face.  The man acts like everything and everyone in the world is tainted, less than his glorious self.

With Dr Rolf and his magic serum on the loose, I don't know why anyone would bat an eye at the mention of Kimberly dying.  No one on this show would have to stay dead for long.  But it was cool to see the outline that Carlivati posted.  I love getting a look behind the curtain.  

Eric and Sarah are already co-dependent and they aren't even sleeping together, yet.  I know the show is trying way too hard with them but it's fun to consider the psychological subtext of two people in an unhealthy relationship who aren't in a relationship.  I thought Rex gave us some good insight when he talked about his relationship with Sarah, and how he felt she made him feel inferior at times.  I suspect she's immediately drawn to a good-looking male that she believes will allow her a dominant emotional position in the relationship.  She quickly sniffed this out in Eric, and his true lurve for Nicole makes things a little more interesting for her.  To "catch" Eric while he carries a torch for another would be quite a victory for her.  Meanwhile, she hates Xander because he challenges her but that's also why she'd find him sexually exciting.  Just a little arm chair analysis, lol.  This show leaves plenty of room for filling in the blanks.  If anyone else sees it differently, do tell.

Eric's admonishments aren't out-of-character for the martyr complex it seems he's had since he was a priest.  Perhaps even before that.  I think he's in a perpetual state of Pity Party for One because he doesn't know how to deal with Nicole's death.  And if he's dealing with Survivor Guilt on top of that, it's no wonder that he's a total mess right now.

I also think that Sarah takes after her biological father Neil Curtis. Nature versus nurture.  Sarah's attitude with Eric and Holly reminds me of Neil protecting Anjelica from Victor regarding her pregnancy with Alexander.  

Eric is in pain and when people are hurting, they are not always nice and agreeable.  He was out of line with Sarah but, I have always liked Eric and I do think that he is very idealistic when it comes to love and romance. Not to mention, he is unforgiving when a woman he loves makes a mistake, Serena and Nicole were iced out when they disappointed him. I think that comes from Marlena having cheated on Roman with John.  Sami always got the most attention over the affair, but it affected Carrie and Eric as well.  Not to mention, losing John as their father.  I wish the show would have explored that beat years ago to give Eric more depth.

Eric, Sarah owes you nothing. She can do what she likes or who she likes, without asking your thoughts. Maybe she wanted to get back at Rex, maybe on some level, she wanted to get back at you because you said no to her. Maybe she just wanted to meet some needs. It's the 21st century and women can seek out one night stands or whatever, no guilt or morality attached. Sucks to be you, Eric. Go stomp to your room and pout.

She was probably one of Xander's better choices, really.

I can appreciate it because it does create mini-cliff hangers but let's say Xander and Sarah turn into a hugely successful couple--their first time will probably always be shown with that weird "flashback" overlay.

And I find it funny Eric was all "you slept with Xander to get back at me" when he's the one who basically burst in on her, uninvited, to see who she spent the night with.  It's not like she could have predicted his discovering her.

I was really disappointed in Xander today.  He WAY overplayed his hand pretending like he had a good time.  What did he think would happen?  Since Leo didn't remember, of course he'd want a second round. Xander saying no, given who he is as a person and how he claimed to have enjoyed the first round, would be crazy suspicious.  I thought he was more sophisticated as a schemer than that and that he'd be able to walk the line of pretending not to hate it too much but also not love it too much.

I used to like Greg Rikkart back in the day but goodness he is not sexy in this role and this story where he's pressuring presumably straight guys to sleep with him needs someone with a slinky sexy charm. Or sensuality.  Writing could also help this because he's overly thirsty with someone who clearly doesn't want him. 

I was excited when I saw Eve bring out the journal because I was hoping we'd start hitting on some hidden ulterior motives to add some more dimension to the amnesia story but then I realized it was probably just the journal with the memory returning formula.  And I'm waiting to have a hint that Jack is going along with Eve not because he necessarily thinks she has his best intentions at heart but just to see what her real end game is.

Her endgame? I'd settle for knowing her game at all. The motivation for this whole Jenn/Jack/Eve deal is 7th-grade level.  Pathetic for a group in their 50s. Frankly, if the show wants to go with Jack/Jenn again, there is PLENTY of internal conflict between these two to mine before any reunion.

If Eve is feeling vengeful, how about - I don't know - maybe going after Ben since he killed her kid. Eve seems more pissy at Jenn for...whatever...than the fact that the man that murdered her daughter is running around free.

Right.  I had my first Dannifer vibe today when Jack immediately went with Eve's idea to run for mayor.  Jack's last return felt like he was just an obstacle to Dannifer.  Except Dannifer in this instance is Eve and Jennifer where Jack's role is to be the thing they fight over.

I was just thinking more about Eve/Ben. If the show wants her to have a love interest where she may actually have a ghost of a chance, she should, as I said, go after Ben. Maybe she tries (and fails) to kill him. Justin decides to take her case. He and Eve get closer while fighting for her freedom, which Adrienne picks up on. Justin is attracted to Eve but still loves his wife...and doesn't want to repeat their cheating merry-go-round.

Meanwhile...bring Julie's (full, just clarifying for connections' sake!) and Hope's half-brother Steve Olson (there's some irony! - last played by a pre-Another World Stephen Schnetzer in the late '70s, or so I have read!) to town. Current age or in Justin's age range (I think de-aging slightly is the better option here), then let him look for work. Maybe Adrienne will hire Steve at The Spectator. Maybe let them become close as Hope and/or Julie warn Adrienne about him, which also draws Steve/Hope into the story because of Ben/Ciara. Have Ted help Hope with looking into her brother's past. Then let Ted/Hope bond, and let the quad of Justin/Adrienne/Eve/Steve play out. Right there, it gives story to two neglected characters, and a more natural trajectory for Eve, and allowing for a long-lost soapy return.

And I say we could still eventually have Steve Johnson back for Jack - and Kayla. Hey, Y&R had two characters named John on in the '80s at the same time! (No, I won't give up that thought!)

And I whipped this up on the fly! And Ron gets paid for his juvenile crap.
