Why is her face so dirty? Nobody else looks that dirty.  She also seems to have smudged black eyeliner. If she brought eyeliner as her personal item (they used to be allowed one personal item, but I don’t know of that is still true) why does it always look so messy…like she slept in it? It’s not a tattoo like her eyebrows. I imagine putting on makeup without a mirror might account for it. I bet she won’t be thrilled when she sees herself on tv.

I was hoping someone would mention her filthy face. I even googled it to see if anyone else noticed it. I stopped the playback during the rainstorm at TC to see if dirt was streaking down her face but her face looked just as filthy. Why!

It always bugs me when they go to reward challenges and the don't even wash off their hands or the sand on their face before they start eating.  I know they are hungry but it would take one second to do and you wouldn't be eating sand or dirt.

Question that has probably been covered multiple times over the years but my son just asked me about last night-what kind of sunscreen are they given and how often?

Yes, as @Skooma said above, the producers do NOT allow them to wash up after a mud challenge, so when go to The Sanctuary ("Where good...."), they look like crap. Someone mentioned this a week or two ago in an exit interview. How they really wanted to clean up, but they were told to go straight to the table.

One of the items they are provided by production is unlimited sunscreen. I'm not sure if it was that way in the early days, but they do it now. Along with any items needed by females for "female issues".

As @JudyObscure mentioned upthread, Sue's face is probably melasma caused by sun exposure.  Melasma can be exacerbated if you're taking hormones like the pill or HRT, which Sue might be on at her age (yes, she is almost certainly post menopausal at...ahem..."45 years old" 😎).

Honestly, she looks terrible and for someone as evidently vain as she seems to be, I'm sure it's killing her.

Gabe was a good choice to go, but [Matthew Perry voice] could it BE any more obvious that they shoulda gotten Kyle out when they had the chance?

This was so frustrating! And there's Genevieve, less crowing about it this episode, but still repeating it was good for her game in some unspecified way...

Yeah, good for you game to leave in the guy who wins almost every single challenge when you have a rare chance to vote him out and a ready crew to get it done. Good for your game to leave Tuku 4-strong, while you whittle your original tribe down to 2. Good for your game to boot someone out prepared to be loyal and vote with you. Good for your game to get out a shield. Good for your game to alienate Teeny. Good for your game to paint a large target on your back. Good for your game to have no real allies left.

I hope she enjoyed those grinning confessionals in the previous episodes as much as she seemed to at the time, because that was a really dumb move. Sure, get Sol out at 5 or 6, or whenever, but it was not good for her game to do that now.

And, man, it was bad for Sol's game! I really wanted her to get voted out last night, but then again her facial expressions were excellent at tribal, so glad it was Gabe after all.

I'm sure it bugs them too since it is production that does NOT allow them to clean up before eating.  They want the "look" for the eating shots and have always forbidden washing up before eating after a food reward challenge.

I hope they are at least allowed to wash their hands with soap.  Or at least sanitize them.  I find it gross if someone comes up to eat with poop hands.  There's no sanitizer on the table of course because it would destroy the "look", but come on, it's been many years since the show has pretended that the contestants were actually "roughing it".  Didn't they used to have to boil their water?  Now the well is always stocked with plenty of fresh water.

It isn't an insult.  More a joke.

And exactly what kind of personality is allowed to reference a very common phrase?  Everybody knows that phrase and Kyle isn't some sub-species of the human race.  He seems a pretty intelligent guy to me.

It's not flattering to be compared to Tweedledee and Tweedledum, and as someone pointed out, Andy was doing it to stir Caroline to action against Kyle for saying it.

To be clear:

I'm not saying Kyle wasn't "allowed" to mention Tweedledee/Tweedledum.

I'm not saying that the name of the pair is obscure. I know that Tweedledee and Tweedledum are a part of pop culture beyond Through The Looking Glass.

I'm not saying that Kyle is some sub-species of the human race or is not intelligent. As far as I can tell, he's as intelligent as any of the people they've cast this season.

It's certainly possible, even probable, that Kyle knows of Tweedledee and Tweedledum.

It's certainly possible that Kyle has talked smack about how Sue and Caroline are tight.

What I am saying is that I suspect that if Kyle had literally said anything close to "Sue and Caroline are like Tweedledee and Tweedledum," that the editors would at some point have shown it, just as they showed the glorious montage of Sue being salty about Kyle, and exposing how stupid Andy's strategy was. Trying to get Sue riled up about Kyle is like taking coals to Newcastle, and he's acting like he's the big spidery manipulator.

What I'm saying is from the glimpse we have gotten into Kyle's personality through editing, I don't see him making that particular reference. Now, of course, the glimpse we have gotten into his personality might be off, or I might be off in making that conclusion.

That isn't a commentary on his intelligence level or anything like that. I know who Tweedledum and Tweedledee are, and I think I'm reasonably intelligent. Yet I probably would not refer to people as such even if did want to insult them. I would probably use some reference from comics or sci-fi. Call them clones or refer to them as Batman and Robin or something. That's just my personality.

It isn't an insult either.  Just a funny put-down that nobody should feel thin skinned about.

And I'm not one for Batman pop stuff.  I so would have used Tweedledum and Tweedeldum-dum (my version) regards Sue and Caroline.  So everybody has different fun put-downs.

It might not be an insult to you, but others might consider it an insult.  And as pointed out upthread, Andy clearly intended it as an insult and Sue clearly interpreted it that way.

Andy knew that Sue hates Kyle and he was stirring the pot and trying to get her to hate him even more so she would want to vote him out.  He wouldn't have said this to her if he wasn't trying to purposely upset her.  She interpreted the comment in the manner he wanted her to.

I think she's got dark 'sun spots' all over her face from years of damage from lying in the sun or a tanning bed. Once the damage is done, exposure to the sun, especially without high SPF sunscreen, will bring them out and make them darker.  Hence, her face looks dirty.  She needs concealer and foundation to cover them up; along with SPF 50 or more and a wide brimmed hat.

Maybe her lash extensions are breaking off, because  something  was running just under her eyes.  I agree about the sun damage.

Did anyone notice that Sam was using his arms and not his head to push the ball on the sand in the reward challenge?

Also, at the immunity challenge, there were several people--Kyle the winner included--who were resting their platforms on their forearms instead of holding it with just their fingertips.

Why was that allowed?

Whatever its historical meaning, Tweedledee and Tweedledum colloquially means two people who are more or less joined at the hip, they are a package deal, one comes with the other. In other words, Sue and Caroline are close allies.

Where I come from, it's an insult.  Yes, it means two people joined at the hip and one comes with the other, but when used it's also implied that they're both morons.

I think Sue has a bad case of melasma, a hyperpigmentation of the skin caused by too much sun.  It may take something drastic like a chemical peel to get rid of it. I almost feel sorry for her.

That may be part of it but it also looks like she's purposely not washing her face. Some of what was visible looked like caked on dirt, especially under her nose (not a spot that get a lot of sun).

I wonder with all the fillers, lip injections, fake eyelashes, etc. she's afraid to really scrub her face? So we're left looking at the remnants of mud & sand from the challenges.

Last week we were talking about how great Teeny's skin was. And then this week they showed how cut up Teeny's legs were and I thought No, not their skin.

I know.  After one of their early seasons, I read that some of the girls had lasting scars from the insect bites. Ever since then, I worry a little about any of them having permanent damage.

One of their oldest cast members, Jan, had bleeding scratches all the time because her skin was just too thin and fragile for all that scuffling.

Gabe may not have been the better choice over Genevieve in the long run, but people fear those who do well in challenges and it's a more immediate threat.  And yes, he'll be back...on the jury.

I hope Gabe is not one of those insufferable jury members who thinks he's still playing the game and tries to add his amazed and dumbstruck reactions to whatever is going on with the remaining players at TC.  It was cute when Eliza did it, but I'm thinking Gabe might lean more towards Debbie's weird theatrics.

I always wonder that too.  I know they all have sunscreen access, but I also remember John Cochran's feet being so sunburned that he could barely walk on his first season, so clearly he missed a spot or two. :)

It's bizarre that I can remember details from 20 seasons ago on Survivor but not what I had for dinner last night.....

Also, I heard the word "community" so many times at the last TC that it lost all meaning.

Yeah, I think it's more commonly used in a derogatory way, and it's clear that Andy intended for Sue to take it as insult, which she of course did. I don't think anything related to Kyle could be construed as anything but negative to Sue at this point. But given Andy's self-proclaimed villain status, he definitely put the negative spin on it purposefully and quite possibly made it up entirely.

I hadn't been a fan of Gabe's all season, but then I felt a little sorry for him sitting there in the rain tucking his hair behind his ears. I felt a similar pang for Rome, I guess I can guess who's going home each week by who I inexplicably feel sorry for, lol.

I do think Genevieve is more dangerous, but at least they are all seeing that now and can go after her next if Kyle continues to win immunities.

Also for my crossover reality TV fans, it's been bugging me for weeks who Kyle sounds like, it was pinging the Real World/Road Rules part of my memory bank and I FINALLY pinned it down, it's Dan the man from Road Rules Northern Trail

Random thoughts on episode 10 - "Gone, Gaby, Gone":

  • Are we forming a new society or creating a community?  Which is it, show?
  • This is the most wishy-washy, flip-floppiest cast ever
  • My favorite character this season is Genevieve's Teeth

I'm right-handed, but I would've definitely held the tray with my left hand to balance the balls.  My left hand is my mitt/catching hand, and my right hand is for throwing.

I just watched a documentary about Karen Carpenter and Genevieve is starting to bear an unsettling resemblance to Karen in her later years. Her very prominent chin, but especially those giant veneers are giving her the appearance of someone very close to needing medical intervention.

Also, I can't recall what she hit the beach wearing, but that really unfortunate jacket ensemble that she's now swimming in looks like it belongs to someone far, far bigger than her. Is she wearing clothes left behind by someone else or is everything she brought really that huge on her now?

It was  bugging me for weeks, too, but I had to go clear back to Chester on Gunsmoke to get a match.

In this Secret Scene Teeny calls Genevieve a "horror movie on legs" but what scares me most is the way Andy is egging Teeny on, trying to get some more  damaging quotes to carry back to Genevieve. I'm starting to seriously dislike him.

Now that Gabe is gone, I have a feeling Andy is going to win. The editing has chosen to make fun of him at times, but we always see his side of the story, he always offers his view of how things are going, something we see for no other player. I feel every player who talks about their strategy, this strategy involves Andy in a way. Lets see how it goes.

I wanted to cheer for Sue, as I am also an old lady named Sue (no botox here) but OMG, what a freaking miserable, whiny, hateful excuse for a 60-something woman.  57, yeah in her fever dreams from 10 years ago, never mind 45.... I was sure by the edit she was leaving as I have noticed sometimes the producers make no bones about the fact they too disliked someone and here's why everyone will be happy with this vote (eg Rome.)

There was a lot of commentary here last week about Genevieve and her giant set of choppers, but wow, was that ever obvious this episode and the night-vision camera did her no favours.

Kyle for the win, though it's gonna take one hell of an immunity run to do it.  I doubt even this group would be dumb enough to give him a pass a second time.  Maybe he'll have one of those hidden idols that the show doesn't let us know about.

Absolutely love Teeny's eyes and soft hair and they seem such a lovely person.  My fave to win at the moment.

I agree.  I would probably prefer for Kyle to win, but there's no way he stays if he loses an immunity challenge IMO (his back story got to me and I usually hate the back stories...).  But, I do like Teeny so would be happy with Teeny as our winner.

This season I have a handful that I wouldn’t mind winning which is surprising.  Teeny would be great as would Kyle.  It’s a shame he’s going to eventually lose an immunity unless he’s super human.( I’m just surprised with Sue . I was always raised not to say the h word( ate ) such a harsh word just say dislike or we  disagree . She’s way over the top)

There are a couple routes to his staying if he loses an immunity challenge:

1. He finds a hidden immunity idol and plays it.

2. Someone gets Big Move Fever and decides to round up enough people to target someone else or plays an idol on his behalf. (Currently, Sue and Rachel have idols, and Sue would never play one for Kyle. But Rachel might?)

3. Some yet-to-be-announced twist saves him.

4, It is possible that he could persuade enough people to keep Kyle around as a number/that Kyle going likely means they are next/that Kyle may not be that tough to beat at FTC. His impressive immunity accomplishments and backstory are fine and good, but how many allies does he have? How many people like him enough to vote for him over, say, most of the remaining people with the possible exception of Andy? Even assuming it's enough, I think the castaways could be bamboozled into thinking that it's not.

The immunity challenge featured Jeffy's favourite challenge prop: BALLS.  The bigger the better.  He just loves talking about the male contestants' balls and seemed to do so frequently.  He seemed exuberant as he joyfully exclaimed "and ANOTHER gust of wind is moving Sam's balls!!!"  Maybe I am 12, but if I was a contestant, I might have cracked up a little and lost concentration.

He's going to be insufferable at final tribal and make his question all about him.  And some finalist will kiss up to him and say "well my big moment was getting you out because you were a threat" and then he will preen and act fake humble.

At least there's not the "hey it's my moment to SHINE" anymore where they each get called up one by one and stand up to ask their question.  Nowadays it seems that Jeffy just calls on them and they stay in their seats.

Did anyone catch which woman (I think it was Rachel) who said "you and your balls, Jeff" when they walked in?

Also liked her talking head callback to her attempt to steal rice!

His tattoos are silly to me.  Does he often feel lost so he looks down at his pec and says "Oh, here I am!"?  And the four star outlines under his other arm make me think he's rated 0/4.

LOL!

But really, his 4 star tattoos are supposed to be the ones in the Chicago flag. Though he lives in Nashville now, he's originally from a Chicago suburb called Schaumburg.
