Oh, I'm sure that's the case. And it seemed sweet the first time someone referenced it. But when too many people started to do it, it started to bug me. I'm not sure why, it just felt like they were trying to latch on to Sam's coattails.  Find your own catchphrase, people! (I feel the same about "all in".) 

I bet it doesn't bother Sam at all. He's likely flattered. I still want them to knock it off.

I know "AOC" is well-known shorthand, but is it common enough that her actual name is not required for this show? I know they accept JFK and LBJ, but they were presidents and their initials have been used for decades. It just seemed odd to me.

Ken was really hitting the JIT hard today. And after reading some comments on this board, all I can hear anymore is "fetch".

I'd say it's acceptable on general principle, and especially once they accepted "The Mooch" for Anthony Scaramucci a few seasons ago, something better known - and used by the person herself in her social media handles - like AOC unequivocally has to be accepted.

Archive game for me for last night, although I did record it, and will probably watch later.

I did not get FJ.  Perhaps if they had referred to it as an effect rather than a force?  Nah, I probably still wouldn't have gotten it.

I did, however, get the TS of Gordon Lightfoot (even without the picture!  If You Could Read My Mind got me there!), fountainhead, and defamation.

Good for Andrew, but I will always root for Sam.

I remember a blue (or purple?) flower. I'm guessing they made this one, too.

If the Gordon Lightfoot clue had referenced Edmund Fitzgerald I would have gotten it. (Frankly, I really only know him because of the running theme here. The song itself came out when I was not quite a year old.)

I did get both but sooo many times I only get the first name! It's maddening, if I can only come up with one I wish it was the one that counts! Or I picture the person in a movie or something, not very helpful when Jeopardy needs a verbal answer.

Well, fuck.  I really wanted Sam to win.  🤬  Not that Andrew was undeserving in any way.  Sam was just so cute.

I had no clue for FJ.  The year was too early for one of my two standard physicists answers, Niels Bohr, and too late for the other, Isaac Newton.  I've heard of the Coriolis effect but had no idea what it was.

I did not stand a chance in the math category.

One last chance to get a finalist (and thus possible winner) I really love - come on, other Sam!

I was absolutely gobsmacked by that.  How could not one of them get him, knowing how often The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald has been a clue on Jeopardy?????

I got the missed clue of Yogi and Boo Boo.

I was pretty shocked that I only m issed one clue in musical characters because that' snot a good category for me.

I actually got FJ!  Not an instaget, and I'm not sure how I landed there -- sacraments, Sacramento, I guess -- but I got there in plenty of time.

The only TS I got was the Cape Fear River.

Damn.  I was really rooting for Sam!  But what the hell was he doing to that poor buzzer?

In J! I missed three in Anatomical Etymology and You Can't Spell… and two in everything else. In DJ I missed two in Train Tales, Beacon in the Night, and 90s Movie Fun and three in everything else. No clue for FJ.

TSes: (J had 2; DJ had 3) I only got Yogi & Boo-Boo.

Terrible game to cap off a terrible day. Didn't leave work until 6:57 and Sam lost. 😠

I don't mind being a terrible Jeopardy! player in general, but I lived in California for 20 years, including 4 years in Sacramento working in a Catholic school.
I even chatted with Governor Brown at a conference. 
I'm never going back to California, am I?

Another impressive win by Victoria; I didn't remember her coming in, but I'm really digging her this tournament!  Amy is still my favorite, but I will not be bummed if Victoria wins the whole thing.  I thought poor Sam was going to strain something trying to ring in.

I liked Matt saying he wasn't going to steal Sam's line (with the "with him right here" being unspoken).

My response to "Food word for 'bonkers' & makes a swift escape" was bananas & splits instead of nuts & bolts. 😃  Despite that, I loved the category.

I ran capitals, anatomy, and spell, and got all but one (see above) in pairs.  I missed two each in steel and musicals, so a good first round for this tournament.

I didn't run anything, or even almost, in DJ, so if only there were bonus points for consistency:  I missed two each in every single category.  It should have only been one in movies, but I could not get 12 Monkeys from my brain to my mouth in time.

I'm a native Californian, did the obligatory junior high trip to Sacramento, have been there as an adult on business, etc. but never came across (or at least never registered) that fact about its name origin.  I still got FJ, though, because I first thought "apostles" but then remembered no, there are 12, and realized the clue said grouping, not group, so I should be thinking of things.  And then "sacraments" popped into my mind, from some dusty corner I didn't know was there.  I didn't know if there were seven of them, but sacrament/Sacramento had to be it.

I don't think I liked Matt Jackson during his original run, but he's been very nice during this tournament.  And he really won me over when he said he would not steal Sam's line.

Congrats to Victoria.  The game tomorrow will be interesting.  Looks like it will come down to who gets the daily doubles.

Sam Buttrey can be proud of his "Lost the most games of Jeopardy" record.  Only people who are very good at the game get many chances.  Look at baseball records, batters with the most strikeouts: they are top players, otherwise they would not have been up to bat so many times.

For FJ, the 7 made me think of 7 deadly sins, so I was going through the southwest states until I got to California.  Then aha! Sacraments! 

I like Victoria and Sam so was torn. Even Matt was less annoying than i remembered. But it should be a great final

Matt presents as kind of dour, which can be off-putting. But I think it’s just social discomfort. He seemed more at ease this time, which made him easier to like. I hope he enjoyed the experience.

I said at the start of the game that I was rooting for Sam but would not be mad if Victoria won. I like her. And while it would never happen, I would love to see a Chase-off on Jeopardy. All the Chasers are former J! contestants, something I did not realize before this tournament. It would be fun to pit them against each other, not to mention a good excuse to get Brad back to a podium.

I also like “Carefree Highway”.

I like "Carefree Highway" as well. Also "Sundown" and "Canadian Railroad Trilogy." In a way, it's too bad that "Edmund Fitzgerald" is the song that everyone immediately associates him with. It may be the worst of his well-known songs. It's worth looking into his other stuff if you enjoy that type of music.

My favorite Gordon Lightfoot song is "Early Morning Rain," and I second "Canadian Railroad Trilogy." The latter may very well be Lightfoot's masterpiece, even though casual listeners may not be that familiar with it.

I had the pleasure of seeing Gordon Lightfoot live in 1982 at the Concord Pavillion, while I was vacationing in Northern California. It was a great show and Lightfoot was a great entertainer, telling stories along the way. There was no opening act and It's the only concert I've ever attended--and I have attended MANY--where there was an intermission during the headliner's set. After playing a good number of songs, Gordon said they were going to take a break for about 15-20 minutes, and then they'd be back for the second half. And so they did! It was a wonderful night.

And now, back to our regularly scheduled Jeopardy! programming. 🙂

I was hoping for Sam but I also like Victoria. Matt was more pleasant to watch than in his original appearances. I got FJ and figured Sam would as a Californian bon vivant. 

I did get the Gordon Lightfoot TS the other night. Growing up in Canada he was on the radio all the time and I am partial to some of his earlier, lesser known songs like “Early Morning Rain”, “Beautiful”, “ Bitter Green”, and “Don Quixote”.  My favourite is “Song for a Winter’s Night” which was covered by Sarah McLachlan and sounds very different from Gord’s version.

Gordon Lightfoot's name couldn't be more Canadian if it was Bob or Doug McKenzie. One of my favorite moments from Psych was Pierre referring to his stint in a Canadian prison with the phrase "a Coffee Crisp and 20 guys named Gord."

What??? "Edmund Fitzgerald" is a *very* effective song. Not only do the lyrics pull the listener into the tragic story, so too does the haunting music. You can almost feel that chilly water and hear the groans & creaks of a sinking ship. IMNSHO, it's his best, followed by "Sundown". I love his distinctive voice, and the musical instruments used in his records.

DJ: Only slightly better…ran In This Economy?, missed one in Things People Say, two in 20th Century Lasts, three in Sculpture and Horror Music, and four in On the Map.

FJ: I got FJ…not quite an instaget but pretty quick.

TSes: (J had 1; DJ had 5) I got pinafore, socialism, and hand crank.

Yay, Amy! Even though I was rooting for Andrew. But I have a grudge against Victoria for beating Sam last night.

Nice play by Amy at the end of the game to put her in a position to overtake Victoria.  Plus, it helped that she got FJ right and Victoria did not.

I joined Victoria with guessing CIA although I thought it was founded earlier than 1952 in the clue - which it was but only by five years.

You're right. I dismissed CIA since its predecessor was OSS, WWII, made it seem older than 1952. Focusing on communication concerns led me to NSA, but I was totally surprised it was correct.

I lived in CA for 30 years, my parents lived in Sacramento. Nope,  never crossed my mind. 7 through me for a loop, I didn't connect it with sacraments and was looking for an answer that referred to 7.  (which it does - just not in my brain)

Victoria was my third choice for winning - but I like her. I just like Amy and Andrew a bit better. Looking forward to Monday. I am also looking for a return to normal play, where I might do a lot better (though oddly, it seems I've done better these last few days than before, which makes no sense). Still, Amy, Victoria and Andrew are fun to watch, so I'm okay with waiting as long as it takes for someone to get two wins.

I didn't keep track of my own performance last night as I'd quit working early and was no longer at my desk, but it was fairly good and, more importantly, I enjoyed the hell out of Victoria and Amy's.  I don't dislike Andrew by any stretch, I just very much want one of those two to win.  And while Amy quickly became a favorite during her run and has remained one ever since, I have so thoroughly enjoyed Victoria - whom I didn't even remember coming in - this tournament, I now don't even care which one of them it is.

Andrew really won me over during the Masters last year so I like all three and don't want to have to choose. I hope they go to 4 games before we get a winner.
