Disgusting. 

TMZ, certainly; but the bulk of my anger upon reading this is directed at LAPD and the LA County Sheriff's Department. These stories need to be cut off at the source. There's no necessity to the public receiving tragic news even before all family members are notified.

I was watching Queen videos and this one made me think of TMZ. Especially the colors since red & white are ones TMZ uses too. The words of the song especially though.

Brian May wrote this song due to his personal life being in the tabloids and the way they had been hounding Freddie for years in regards to him having AIDS. I wasn't old enough to know anything about all of that when it was happening. Just reading about how he was hounded makes me mad and sad. Nobody should be forced to tell the world about their health conditions or anything else if they don't want to.

I highly recommend Colleen Moore's autobiography, Silent Star, which was published in 1968.

Silent Star recounts Moore's rise to stardom in the 1920s but it also doubles as a history of the silent and early talkie eras in Hollywood. The book is very episodic - entertainingly so - with numerous digressions about various movie stars of the period. (Moore finished in the Top Ten of the Annual Money Making Stars Poll from 1925-1931. So, she knew everyone in Hollywood!)

I would also recommend Sidney D. Kirkpatrick's book, A Cast of Killers, which discusses the director King Vidor's attempts to solve the murder of director William Desmond Taylor in 1922. Moore plays a big part in that book.

Finally, Moore was a shrewd investor which left her very wealthy right up to her death in 1988. She even wrote a book on the subject of investing, How Women Can Make Money in the Stock Market.

Thanks for the recommendations. I've always been fascinated by the William Desmond Taylor case so def going to check that out, and Colleen Moore's bio as well. I just think early Hollywood was such a fascinating time/place, like a super glamorous wild west.

Sidney Kirkpatrick based his book on the materials King Vidor had gathered on the William Desmond Taylor case and then set aside. The book really takes you into the freewheeling silent film era when the studios were just starting to get themselves organized. It also conveys how scandals then were truly scandals and how the tabloid press was already working at full force.

I also highly recommend it.  Even though there are some issues with it, mainly due to the supposition of conversations, which Mr. Kirkpatrick based on how he believed Mr. Vidor would speak and the latters notes, it offers the most likely resolution.  I've also been always interested in the case @Mabinogia.

I also recommend going to the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago to see Colleen Moore's dollhouse.  It's fascinating and beautiful.

OMG, I own this book! Or at least I used to own it. Now I can't remember if I loaned it to somebody (and it never returned) or if it's packed away somewhere in my house. Maybe I'll do a search this Thanksgiving weekend. Or maybe I won't LOL. Anyway, I do agree it's a very good read.

In other news, CBS is set to air a celebration of Dick Van Dyke's 98th birthday on December 21. Good luck with that, Dick! Seems to me every time one of these Celebrating X Birthday! is announced for a future date, The Grim Reaper comes a knocking first.

This is just a temporary restraining order, and there's no requirement of physical threat to obtain one -- so they're not rare in business litigation in addition to being obtained in the usual scenarios TV makes people think of upon hearing the term (more accurately described as protective orders in many of those cases) -- just that the opposing party's actions, if not enjoined, will likely cause immediate and irreparable damage (specific standards vary, but that's the gist in Tennessee, where this was filed). 

TRO's are by definition short-lived, so the other party can promptly put on a defense.  The underlying lawsuit here is a financial dispute, and there's no indication Hall is concerned for his physical safety.

A few years ago I was telling my kids about their shows and showing them HR Puffenstuff and The Land of the Lost.  And I can still sing the theme of Electra Woman and Dyna Girl! 

They were so unimpressed. LOL.  But they just don't know the awesomeness of the Gen-X Saturday morning shows!
