Did anyone else laugh when methane was the answer to the Uranus clue?  Just me?  Alrighty then.

I didn't catch that but it is funny.

I thought that was a very good game with all in contention for the win after end guy pulled himself up by his bootstraps.

I know I got several ts's including Milwaukee and tattoo but I forget the rest and my list is way in the other room.

FJ was an instaget because it's one of my most favourite Christmas songs and seemed to be obvious what children would be shouting at a parade.

I am glad Ray won again. I really like him but wish he wouldn't guess so much.  I notice his twisting but it doesn't bother me.

I did ok because I refused to think about the Greek letters.

The only time I ever thought about the Greek letter was to double-check myself on taunt, since multiple words could fit that clue, so I needed to make sure I had the one containing a Greek letter.  I got all of them, but I barely spit solipsism out in time - and only because the full time was allotted, as it was a TS.

But I’m also open to time travel theories!

Okay then, here's mine... Santa is a time traveler. He starts out Xmas eve, distributing gifts. As dawn approaches, he jumps back in time to the several hours ago he started his run.  He does his thing again until dawn, jumps back again, and does this repeatedly until everybody on his list has their gifts.  THAT's how he gets it all done in one night.

Nooo!  Tonight was the first time since Dec. 9 that I've been able to watch Jeopardy, and it's preempted by a special report!  My Jeopardy hasn't resumed (CBS affiliate), and probably won't.  🙁

I did check the archive for FJ, assuming I won't get to watch the actual show, and I got it -- for the first time this week.

Weird! J! is barely started when Lester Holt breaks in to talk about Zelenskyy.  Not much is reported when J! resumes at the Romeo & Juliet clue.  WTH?

Lucky! mine was pre-empted after the Jeopardy round and I had to go to the archive. FJ was too easy.

Glad I decided to watch early on youtube.

60% / 73% / 67%

Not a great start...Ran Machines, missed one Superlative, two in Sounds Like a Bug, and three in everything else. Did better in DJ; ran Of Your Head, missed one in Pacific Islands and Food & Drink, and two each in the rest.

FJ was an insta-instaget.

TSes were The Moth, chewing gum, and French Polynesia.

From a gameplay perspective, however, this was a great game.

I think our local affiliate actually screwed up by going back to J! after about a minute of NBC's special report.  After J! was over, we saw two commercials and then the end of Zelenskyy's speech & the exchange of flags. Then Lester says, "This concludes our Special Report."  NBC was probably airing the whole thing, but Channel 11 decided its viewers would rather watch Jeopardy!  LOL.

Intimidated by the reports that FJ was easy-peasy, it took me til half-way through the music for the lightbulb to go on over my head.

Jeopardy ran here full at 7 and then they bumped Wheel.

Didn’t get FJ. They’re messing with my head as I spent half the time wondering if I should pick a Christmas story.

Poor Mary was effectively a spectator tonight and quite likely did not enjoy the viewing experience the same way I did.  That was a good match between Michael and Ray.  I was rooting for Michael - for several reasons, including wanting to hear that voice some more - but it all came down to FJ wagering and, unlike Ray, Michael had such a huge range to choose from.  (I'm not sure how he came up with what he did, though.)

For the second night in a row, I did not run a single category in the first round.  That has to be a first for me.  Ugh.  I blame holiday stress.  I got all but one in geography (I should have run that one, but I couldn't get Guernica from my brain to my mouth in time), superlatives, and machines, and missed two each in the others, so I didn't completely flame out, but jeez.

My game picked up big time in DJ, though; I got all but five clues (two in islands and three in heirs).  So I had one of those Bizarro World games where I do better in DJ.

For a brief moment, I drew a complete blank on FJ, but then it came to me in a flash.  Sort of a time-delayed instaget.

At first the word strand made me think that the dew was not literal and therefore it was some kind of necklace (diamonds? pearls?) but luckily I was able to switch gears and get to the right answer.

It should have been, but it just didn’t come to me. I actually groaned out loud when I saw Michael’s answer, because obviously.

Nothing against Ray— don’t dislike him, just not really drawn to him— but I was rooting for Michael. How disappointing it must be to do so well and just miss the mark.

Once again, happy to have my Jeopardy on an independent station. No pesky news here.

If I'm not mistaken, had Michael not missed the second-last clue, he and Ray would have been tied at the end of Double Jeopardy.  That would have made for a very exciting final.  It would have been interesting to see the wagers.

Channel 4 in Detroit also decided to air Jeopardy instead of Zelensky. Which I think is fine, as he could be watched on other channels

Was rooting for Michael, although I was ok with the other two.

Well, Charlotte’s Web is my go-to pre guess for children’s lit, so good for me, I guess?

FJ was a near instaget, but, now that you mention it, I’m not sure if that’s because Child Lit is one of my areas of knowledge, or because it’s a frequent Jeopardy! answer——probably a combination of the 2.

I am terrible with FJ.
30 seconds stresses me out.
Actually, I realized yesterday it may be the damn Think Music.
Especially yesterday, if I’d muted the Think Music, I might have gotten the Christmas Song title. Or not.
But I didn’t have a snowball’s ❄️☃️chance in hell of getting FJ yesterday while I was trying to run snippets of Christmas🎄🎅 songs mentioning children’s shouts while that damn Think Music was cheerily🎶 bouncing along.
I’m sure most players tune it out.
Oh well. Better that I can tune out tinnitus than the Jeopardy! Think Music.

I’ve been running on average about 2 categories per game.
Each game I invariably get distracted by some fascinating clue or response and miss the next clue or 2.
Swaying or other contestant idiosyncrasies don’t distract me that way, but perhaps they do others?

Yes. Will Michael be a Second Chance contestant? Or does that depend upon whether Ray becomes a Super Champion?

I was a little annoyed at each of them for not going all in on their DDs, but they were both conservative wagerers, and both knew their DDs, so ultimately it didn’t matter.

I view on a NBC channel so had to check the archive. Jeopardy was preempted by Zelensky’s speech. I came up with chewing gum, French Polynesia, sofrito, and rapini. I was able to run Food and Drink and I’s in the back. At first I thought FJ was a flower, but it was the show’s favorite children’s book.

Fox 45 in Baltimore didn't care about Volodymyr Zelenskyy, so no interruptions for me.

FJ was an instaget since I absolutely adore that book.  (Never made me even consider being a vegetarian, though.)

Otherwise it was a mediocre game for me.  I only ran 3 categories (Geography That Made History, Machines and The Classic Song In Question) and only had 2 categories where I got all but one clue (Food & Drink and Of Your Head).  Only 2 stumpers, too: chewing gum and French Polynesia.

And I only just realized that all the songs actually had titles which were questions.  D'oh!

Michael made it one hell of a game and I'd have been fine with him winning.  I did feel sorry for Mary.  I'm sure that's not how she imagined her Jeopardy experience going.

I could listen to Michael talk all day.  I read that Ray’s swiveling is due to spinal pain(maybe I read that here).  FJ! was an instaget.  Even though the show cut to the WH and Z from Ukraine, I found the full episode this morning (next day) on the tube of the you.

Whereas "strand" is what got me immediately to Charlotte's Web before I even read the complete clue. It's interesting to see our word associations and how they are different. Yours was totally logical, and might have thrown me on a different day.

The scourge of tinnitus. Another thing we have in common. If I'm reading, I have to have music (instrumental) playing in the background because silence is not silent in my head.

If Michael spoke a little louder I'd feel the same. We had to turn the volume up to hear him.

I got Guernica at home - but I'd fail if I were on the show - I can't pronounce the danged city.

Not the greatest game for me, but at least it wasn't interrupted. Probably because we're on the west coast and the special report would have been earlier (?)

I hope so.  I'd like to see and hear him again.

Here, the station that normally shows Jeopardy went directly to Congress with no advance notice.  But when they preempt Jeopardy for football (every week) they often show it on their other channel that runs mostly sitcom reruns. So I checked that channel and Jeopardy was there.

I mute the "Think" music too, so I can think.

I can't believe I forgot about the sister station.  I bet I could have watched there!

I blame delayed flights, running through airports, and a three-hour drive home (I got home at about 1:00 am Wednesday.)

Decent game...Ran nothing in J! but missed only one in Tech History, A Bit of Everything, We Come to This Place For…, and Magic, and two in Change the Vowel and Nicole Kidman Says. In DJ I ran Climate and Crossword Clues N, missed one in Battles and Bottom 10, two in Book in that Book, and three Atlantic Islands. After several seconds of thought I unconfidently came up with the correct response for FJ. My TSes were Orleans (DD), Whitney Houston, and You're Beautiful.

I have it, too. It doesn't bother me too much most of the time but I usually have some kind of outside noise going.

I was shocked to be correct for FJ!  I had no idea that person published any books, but the titles immediately led me to him.  I couldn't think of anyone else even remotely possible.  Bradbury was an interesting response.

I only managed two TS -- cormorant and Orleans.

Ray's swiveling/swaying makes me think of all the Whos down in Whoville -- watch the animated Grinch when the Whos come together to sing.  There's at least one who swivels just like that.

I got to Banksy because of  Existencilism" and Bricks. But I thought it was a crazy guess, because I thought it was too early for Banksy.

I ran Big Battles, which is a shock to me, almost ran Book within a Book (missed the Phillip K Dick question), and otherwise did okay.

I was watching football last night, and just got around to checking the archive now (because I'm procrastinating on doing the last bit of my Christmas shopping).

Good grief, I almost failed to run anything in the first round for the third game in a row!  Thank goodness for the places category.  I got all but one in the rest, except for the bit of everything category, in which I missed two.  Including, embarrassingly, the Noah clue; yes, even I know flood = Noah, but I didn't pay attention to the flood part of the clue, just that it was someone who lived a very long time, and confidently said Methuselah.

In DJ, I only ran climate, but I got but one in books, crossword clues, and songs.  I missed two in islands and three in battles.

My response to FJ was a blank stare.

December 23...Watched early on youtube because it's too cold.

70% / 60% / 64%

Okay first round - missed one each in Orchestral Maneuvers in the Park, Sports Equipment, and Prepositional Phrases, and two each in Literature, Everyday Royalty, and That Was My Home.

Not so okay second round - ran Biological Processes and 5-Letter Words, missed one in All Stars, three in Native American History and Rian Johnson Loves a Whodunit, and completely failed Around Asia.

Also had no idea for FJ (but I had the right author, at least; I threw out Hiawatha just to say something, knowing full well it was wrong because the clue referred to a female character).

TSes were between a rock and a hard place, salivary glands (DD), pollination, and Star Spangled Banner.

As I have never read that poem, I did not get FJ tonight.

I did, however, get the TS of between a rock and a hard place, Earl Warren, pollination, salivary glands, and Chief Seattle.

I think I only got two FJ this week, but I'm away from home and my notes (again), so I'll check on that Monday.

I can't believe between a rock and a hard place was a TS.  Pollination surprised me, too.  Also Earl Warren and "from sea to shining sea" a bit.  Boarding school did at first, but I suspect they all thought it had to be something more specific.

I ran royalty, phrases, and parks, and got all but one each in the rest of the first round categories, so I was back to form to finish off an odd week.

Other than missing three Asia clues, I kicked ass in DJ; I ran history, words, whodunits*, and processes, and only missed two in stars.

*I love that The Last of Sheila was the subject of a clue, as it's something of an unknown gem; we were just discussing that film in the TCM thread recently (TCM, of course, being the one channel on which one could come across it).

I had no idea on FJ, though.  I'm very hit and miss with poetry and this one was a big ol' miss -- I am aware a poem titled "Evangeline" exists, but could not tell you one thing about it (well, except now I could tell you it was written in 1847 and involves a town burnt down and a reunion followed by death, but I'll have forgotten all that by tomorrow).

Tried to wikipedia it (to find out more) but came up with no new info except for the opening line, which I have heard (but couldn't have told you where it was from): "This is the forest primeval".

That was another very good game.  I am enjoying Ray's run and like that he is winning without the games being runaways.  I was a little embarrassed by his guess of opal instead of sapphire for the Star of India clue.  He continues to make some bad guesses which will probably be his downfall.

I got the ts's of "from sea to shining sea", Goldwyn, and salivary.

FJ was an instaget.

The Last of Sheila is fantastic. I do wonder how well it has aged and would like a chance to see it again.

I saw it again recently, it has aged, especially in regards to women and LGBTQ+ attitudes. But the aha! moments are still good and I still like the ending. And James Mason. Interestingly I recently saw Knives Out due to encouragement from my daughter that I would like it because of the mysteries aspect, so I was actually hoping that the category was actually about Knives Out though I swept the category anyway. I don't watch a lot of current movies/shows.

Before the clue was revealed, we came up with all sorts of answers, Hiawatha being one of them. But when it was revealed, I was clueless and came up with my favorite poem as a young teen - "The Highwayman" (full of drama, and a bit morbid - just my cup of tea). I can still quote from it - unlike "literary" poems. LOL.

I did fairly well across the board, but no runs in categories. A few times I missed things by overthinking and not going for the obvious.

No FJ, but that's okay. Happy Christmas Eve to those who celebrate Christmas!

$18/Cdn for a dvd of it.  Is it worth that much?

Did they offer an option to rent it? I've done that with movies I didn't want to buy, and it was much cheaper.

I have never read Evangeline, but American, early 1800s must be Longfellow.  Hiawatha was too obvious so I went with Evangeline.
