S06.E21: Reunion Part 1

Yeah I think the women can film together, they get over pretty insulting stuff all the time and if I had to guess I'd say that check is pretty incentivizing in terms of hatchet-burying.

but girl all your examples above are actual facts in these women's lives.  Luanne was a Countess regardless of whether dude used his title.  Carole is a widow who has a right to be wistful about the interrupted life she had with a man who died before his time.  Josh is a branding expert.  I have no idea what that means and how he works his hustle but the point I'm making here is that the shit Sonja comes up with isn't real.  Employees and yachts and carrying on.   Even a simple thing like having no hot water in the house turns into a convoluted bunch of goobly guck.   The house was built in the 1870's so sometimes the pipes...blah blah blah.  Yeah that explains why there's no water of either temperature coming out of that specific spigot.  Not why you don't have hot water in the whole house.

Sonja told Kristin how unkind it was for her to say to her husband behind her (Sonja's) back that she was delusional.   Not to quibble, but it's actually Josh who said that and Kristin then listed the reasons she really is delusional and said here, lemme say it to your face.

I dunno how I feel about using this tv series as a microcosm for how society treats each other at large but I will say that they might need to start treating Sonja they way they did Kelly.

Why is it "ghetto" talk?

To be clear, not any one of these women engage in formal discourse, so I don't get why Heather saying "Holla" is ghetto or a problem. Or that she said "motherfucker" is "ghetto"? Like, for real? "Motherfucker"? Meanwhile, Aviva tells someone to "Shut the fuck up" and no one clutches pearls about what it means or if it means that she's trying to be "ghetto."

At some point in the F-bomb discussion, Heather did ask Aviva if she learned that word in prison, but it got lost in all the crosstalk. Which is kind of a tragedy because with Heather's timing and demeanor it was a masterful co-opting of Aviva's one jaw-droppingly good line from the entire season.

Sonja is annoying and disconnected but many of these women do exactly what they accuse Sonja of being-hanging on to the past.

I don't think it's so much a matter of hanging on to the past, but either being absolutely delusional about what the past was or falsely representing it. Does Heather name drop people she's worked with in the past? Yes. Did Luann hold onto that countess thing forever and ever? Yes. But Heather really did work with Diddy and Luann really was a countess. Sonja, on the other hand, comes up with these crazy stories about having a bunch of modeling money at age 14 that she invested and used to flip houses, and that's how she met her ex-husband. What the fuckity fuck? And even in the present - she has Nigerian football teams and Saudi princes who want to work with her? Or the yacht - it's one thing if she talks about when she DID own a yacht. Yes, it's hanging on to the past, but it was reality. It's another to act like she STILL owns one and hangs out with P Diddy on it.

Asshole.

WHAT?? Really? I don't read the blogs but that certainly seems like a logical context since all the  RHOA happen to be African American. I can't figure out what else she was saying.

If that is, in fact,  what she meant, she should be fired. Publicly and immediately. What an evil bitch.

I think it's called being an escort or prostitution.  Ask Lindsey Lohan about the Saudi princes who pay her bills.  Or the other "starlets" or travel to Bahrain for paid "appearances."

I think she should, it would bring her a lot of sympathy and show that she is human.  She doesn't need to break down and cry.

As for the reunion, She did go after Luann a lot in the past.  Luann and Kelly were sympathizing about divorce and saying when they are ready to move on, they move on fast.  Luann and the Count apparently had an arrangement in their marriage that worked for them.  It wasn't for Ramona to bring it to light on the reunions or on the show.  But Ramona took gleeful pleasure in dropping those tidbits on speakerphone or at the reunions. That Ramona has been probably turning a blind eye to Mario for years?  I wouldn't doubt it.  I thought it was horrible that Jill brought on that fortune teller in Morocco to do the same to Ramona.

But I have no problem with Ramona getting a taste of her own medicine from Luann.  Luann had two kids at home just like Ramona has Avery to think about.

Season 4 in Morocco LuAnn and Jill delighted in the "fortune teller" intimating that Mario was cheating.  Season 3 Reunion Jill and Luann brought up Mario cheating rumors circulating "in their circle".  So LuAnn has been party to attacks on Ramona's marriage.  Actually about as many times as Ramona mentioned hers. Again the difference to me is LuAnn misrepresented the status of her marriage from the get go.  She has since said she was separated.

By virtue of the fact Ramona filed for divorce she has publicly acknowledged there is trouble in her marriage.  Does Ramona need to say she was wrong to bring up LuAnn's marriage?  Yep.  LuAnn needs to reiterate she lied to the cast and the audience about the status of her marriage in the past.

I just never see a hero in someone who outs another's marriage troubles-especially if the couple are trying to work it out.  I would think LuAnn would want to rise above Ramona's level instead of sinking below it.

The problem with all the grand slams by LuAnn is does anyone think these women could ever film together again?  I get LuAnn is angry at Ramona don't really get her anger at Sonja because the "package" they played showed insult after insult by LuAnn directed at Sonja.

I think Luann is pissed at Sonja because Sonja brought the facialist on the show and then giggled about Luann liking short French men she can dominate, AND that Sonja doesn't give a damn or acknowledge that was a shitty thing to do to a supposed friend.  Plus, Sonja goes on about how they are friends for years, but in the next breath says they barely know each other.

ETA:  And I'm sure Luann is NOT happy that Sonja and Ramona call her LuMan.  And that Sonja keeps saying Luann is jealous of her.  Potato ships!

I can't stand Ramona--never have--but I did have a quick thrill seeing her turn on Andy.  Whether right or wrong--It just highlights how she will turn on anyone if you catch her unprepared to deal and it showed how he doesn't tolerate confrontation.

I don't get why she couldn't just continue to issue a standard response to the Mario business.  She's been doing it for awhile and it's not that hard to come up with a generic, politician's wife response that would get folks momentarily off her back and maybe bring her coos of sympathy.  Tells me things at home are really not gong well.  She's always been dumb that way. Come up with a response of some kind, fool, and keep it moving unless you want additional questions.

On the Sonja front, having LuAnn call her out plain and simple is a good first start.  But instead of going on and on about how she's delusional -- Kristen can be a real ninny and not very helpful -- I'd love to see someone calmly point out that it seems more than obvious that Sonja simply cannot accept the many changes in her circumstances and so has created an alternate reality and another persona for herself.  She's splitting.  Maybe this has taken place, someone telling her so, and we just don't get to see it because it's too real and raw.  She obviously needs some serious help because I don't think she's joshing anymore.  I think she really, really believes what she's spouting.  And Aviva has gone from trashing her mightily at the end of last season -- Anna Nicole Smith anyone? -- to suddenly believing what Sonja is selling.  Right ....

Carole looked awful.  And call me old fashioned but if I had some guy asking me to stand up and twirl so folks could get a good look at my great ass, I'd tell him to take a seat and get a clue.  It kind of blows my mind that she of all people would have allowed that to be her tagline to begin with.  It's even dumber than Kristen's.

It was a good start as a Reunion.  They managed to get some real talking points out early and quickly and for once I thought Andy was smart in letting Ramona show her shaky hand.  I too am looking forward to seeing her get her moment in the deep shade.  She's been a bitch, untouched and tolerated, for so many years now.  It's about time.  Her total inability to issue Kristen a straight up apology, without caveats and excuses, equals Ramona in a nutshell.

Ok, before I lose focus, I think, by jove, this might be the crux of the debate.      They're here to talk about their lives so, personally?  I don't think bringing up someone's marriage is out of order.  Ah, but our Ramona took things a scosh (<-- I don't know how to spell scosh) further than just bringing it up.  Whenever she talked about anyone's relationship it was always a) in a negative context and b) defaulted to the shittiest delivery possible.   Like this chick ENJOYED seeing someone tank.  I'm sorry but when it's happening to her?  Dude I'd have to be made of apostle like stuff to resist that.    That's just me though, Jesus knows my heart.  Lol.

I don't want to be seen as defending or taking up for Aviva (as I do believe she is evil)--but, I think what she meant in reference to RHOA --was the actual physical altercations that went on during Nene's party. I don't think any of the others have had such physical assaults.

Forgot to add that Aviva, that relentless ass, will I hope some day come to know the many pleasures and satisfactions of the post-menopausal life.  It's a great time for many women, especially if you have the grace and dignity to accept the loss of youthful looks and if you've laid reasonable groundwork for a workable life in the years prior.  Everyone makes a ton of mistakes--I know I did and kind of still do--but it helps not to have spent real time acting like a vicious, vindictive jerk for reasons that defy explanation.

Here's to hoping and praying that these Reunion shows will be the last we see of her and her horrendous yellow wallpaper.  And the unspeakable George.

I can't wait to see that, mostly because while Andy may rightly proclaim he's not on a reality show I like the idea that he can't escape the bullshit he's created entirely.  As entertaining as I find him on his show, he's kind of a douchebag, and I appreciate him being pulled in somewhat.

This was surprisingly aggressive for a reunion part 1, by which I mean that they were actually asked questions about things and gave coherent (for the most part) answers.

Sonja...makes me sad. Whoever said they should treat her like they did Kelly- I agree with that.  Something isn't right with her, yelling at her on television like it's some weird intervention is a little uncomfortable.  I guess I feel that way because I think she's generally harmless, just delusional.

Re: the umpteenth rehashing of the glass-throwing incident - it ENRAGES me when Ramona uses the term "unladylike" to describe her behavior. Once she settled on that term (probably after consultation with lawyers and PR people), she has stuck to it like glue. The very term "unladylike" implies that the behavior is inappropriate for a woman but would be appropriate for a man. So if a man threw an object at someone and hit them in the face, that would be OK, Ramona? Really?

Even her racial slams are out of date, like her wardrobe. "Ghetto fabulous switchblade?" Bitch, turn West Side Story off and bring your ass to the real hood. You won't find any switchblades, fabulous or otherwise.

So very vile. I swear, I cannot promise that if I cross her path, I will not knock that kickstand from under her. In fact, I may go out of my way for that.*

**As many shows as are filmed here now, you'd think I'd see people everywhere, but I see nobody. I had to go all the way to Las Vegas to see Shah's Mercedes walking her little fat dog through my hotel last week. Wait, I did see that that unfortunate looking Mob Wife who got her own show, Big Ang? Saw her at JFK. Full on daylight. Shudder.***

Or different than Carole writing a book about her life and hanging on to the memory of her dear late husband or using the title Princess, when her husband a Prince by birth never used it, never mind the principality has not existed, for what 75 years ?

Carole has joked about having the title of Princess, but she hasn't used it like Luann used her Countess title after her divorce.

Didn't Luann already admit to the lie about the status of her marriage?  Why is it necessary for her to reiterate it?

Good point. How about - It's unhumanlike? Ramona still isn't ready to fully own it. She apologizes and admits it was wrong, but at the same time is making excuses and deflecting. She tries to make it sound not so bad by insisting the glass was "plastic", but as the ladies on the other couch pointed out, it was a certain kind of plastic that was definitely not flimsy. Either way, who cares what it was made of?

Boring start to Reunion to a lackluster season…only somewhat enjoyable portion was letting Sonja ramble on…and Luann's "They were mentally ill."

Yes, makes no sense.

I do believe she's got plumbing issues and has not put the money into maintaining her home like a responsible homeowner. Hell, the whole house is a ramshackle mess because she would rather spend her money on her damn appearance!!

She deprives her free servants a proper bath over depriving herself of beauty treatments and liposuction. She probably encourages her "staff" of free interns to get a gym membership so they'll have access to hot showers.

She makes no secret of how important she is in her own deluded mind.

I don't care what color Carole's hair is; if she is happy with it, fine.  I don't care if Luann's dress at the reunion was shitty looking.  I don't care if Heather gets pleasure at being good at a lot of things.  All I know is that I'd love to hang with these three for an evening of partying!

On the other hand, an evening with Ramona would have me dreading the moment that she'd make some dumbass, offensive remark to someone and then look all crazy eyed as she yells "What'd I say? I'm just being honest!"  Then there's Sonja.  I'd die of second-hand embarrassment watching her desperate attempt to hit on every man in the room as she informs them all she's not wearing any underwear.  As for Aviva, she's too boring even to be seen in public with.

Can't wait for the next reunion installment!

I didn't see what was to be gained by Kristen insisting the whole cast would say to Sonja's face she is delusional.  Who feels better after such an declaration?  Does it change Sonja and who she is or is done just to humiliate her?

I agree. Luann et all may be justified about a lot of what they're saying, but I don't know how she can watch herself and not cringe a little. I guess I expected more from my Countess.  Kristen just looked like an ass.  It's amazing how when she sneers her face goes from beautiful princess to ugly wicked witch in under a second.

Um, she's about 5 seconds away from being post-menopausal herself.  WTF?  What's with the age cracks from her, when she ain't young herself?  As usual, her insult doesn't make sense cuz Heather is younger than her & hardly "post-menopausal" as she implies.  Big fail, as usual Veevs.  Thanks, Aviva, for also insulting post-menopausal viewers too.  Real nice.  Charming to the end, eh Veevs?  The vibe at the reunion is Veevs is a goner for sure.  Everyone knows it -- even Veevs herself.  My dream end for Part 3 would be Andy telling her he's sick of her shit & finally tell her to take her fake leg & go fuck off.

Too much time spent discussing disgusting George.

They spent too much time on him.  I don't care about him & whatever relationship he has with that woman.  Glad Moaner said she will never be in his presence.  But did viewers say he sexually harassed Moaner?  Andy should have said it was thought he sexually harassed Kristen.  I'm puzzled why he didn't, but they did show the clip of Kristen saying saying he grabbed her boob.  They did not show him grinning like a madman afterward.  Oh that was horrible.

So, we find out that the wine glass Ramona tossed at Kristen was not the flimsy plastic kind, like the one she brought to the reunion, but was a heavier CURED plastic (thank you, Heather) wine glass. I know just the kind. And that makes a lot more sense to me how it could have cut her lip.

And CLASSIC Ramona has to down play it and back peddle and look like a total ass. That said, I really can only take Kristen in small doses -- she drains me with her whining and OTT reactions to everything. Can we PLEASE not bring her back next season as a full-time HW and keep her on as just a "friend of" instead?

Aviva was pretty unimpressive here.  She yelled out that Carole & Russ had an open relationship just to desperately get some attention.  How the fuck would she know such a thing?

If I remember correctly, Cool Carol pretty much told her they had an open relationship when they were shopping early last season.

Snark Kitty:  "Bitch, turn off West Side Story and bring your ass to the real hood."  Classic. Too funny.

Come to think of it, having a camera trained on Aviva while she goes through menopause, peri and post, might make for a great horror spin-off.  I can only imagine the drama and spin she might bring.  Could rival "The Strain."

So glad Sonja's pipes got mentioned.  That was another great looney moment last night.  Sonja's two minutes away from taking down the drapes to make herself a go to Rhett dress.  The house was built in the 1890s was a nice touch.  I also kind of  chuckled over how she's now letting drop that she married "J P Morgan's grandson" and that she met him while working on a business deal.   It's like we're getting into some deep Sonja-American history here.  Sonja and the Robber Barons.

From my perch as a washed up post-meno I definitely want me some wine in a can.  And some friends with benefits.  Fluttering of eyelashes.  Moroccan royalty!  Dubai!

Asshole.

As an occasional Rush Limbaugh audience member, and perhaps a troll in your estimation, it has become increasingly easy to spot when those who "quote" Limbaugh have ever actually listened to the show. In my opinion, Aviva is not someone who listens to Limbaugh, and she was certainly mocking him when she "quoted" him last year. In fact, she said "it was a stupid apology referencing another stupid apology" when she was asked about it in last year's reunion.

Rather than simply dismissing her as a "troll of the Rush Limbaugh/Glenn Beck variety," I'd say she is more of an entitled, self-centered, immature, sheltered spoiled brat with a lot of issues, definite asshole tendencies, and the result of 40+ years of exposure to George.

I do agree on the second part. That reference to ATL was totally about black women.

Shudder.***

Maybe all she meant was that the knives handles are blinged out.

MJ and Ang in the same week? Girl you need some aloe for your cornea?

Last week they were shooting a movie just outside my work building.   Starring DeNiro.  I had a Lady Sonja Morgan moment and thought to myself well, he does have some fondness for black girls.  Could not get my fat ass out there quickly enough.   They were still adjusting lights and booms and carrying on and I had to catch my train but that's my latest tellit report nyc (not even close) brush with celebrity.

If I remember correctly, Cool Carol pretty much told her they had an open relationship when they were shopping early last season.

I'm not sure if she directly said that to her.  Anyone remember if she did?  Well, even if she didn't, I thought Carole did mention on the show she was dating others while seeing Russ, so maybe Aviva wasn't wrong, but it was really shitty of her to blurt that out.  WTF?  To defend Sonja's ridiculous behavior?  I agreed with Carole.  If she were any kind of friend she woulda shut down the facialist's babbling quick instead of encouraging it.  But it seems like Sonja doesn't know how to be anyone's friend except the Moaner.

While I'm glad they sort of addressed George's inappropriateness, once again, what he did to Kristin is being swept under the rug like it's not a big deal. Or, since this is Andy we are talking about, like it's just "funny." Andy still doesn't seem to get it.

Indeed.  George is, in my book, one sick sexual predator.  If he had grabbed someone's ass in California, and it was verifiable, he'd be standing in front of a judge charged with sexual battery, and if proven, might have to register as a sex offender.  Did ANY of the men in that room that night take Snake Spit aside and tell him that if he touches another woman in the room he'll be enjoying the exhibits from floor level?  If not, they should have.

It's time for the Real Housewives of New York to refuse this jerk any screen time at all, and shame on them for indulging it this far.  If Aviva is still with the Housewives come next season, she needs to be told to keep Daddy in a cage or advise him he cannot come when they are shooting.

I agree that Sonja is definitely a shitty friend, but she is far up Aviva's ass, for some reason. It makes sense Aviva would defend her now.

To be clear, I'm calling Limbaugh and Beck trolls. I think that Aviva is equally a troll in their vein (because I do think that they often easily try to troll/rile up/get under the skin of folks). I'm not calling you a troll.

Yep, Aviva needs all the friends she can get. Even if it's delusional Sonja.

Maybe delusional is what it takes to be Aviva's friend.

Quick question, I know the other ladies have said that Sonja's daughter has been bff with Aviva's son for a long time. And that is why we see Sonja in Aviva's camp.

I have the memory of a gold fish but, did we see this closeness last season? I know that the white trash thing happened late in the season. But before that I don't recall them being close?

I don't recall them being close, either. They were definitely friendly until Aviva's charity event, but some thing has to have happened behind the scenes. I don't even remember her being so pro-Aviva the first episode of this season. In that episode, I remember a conversation between Sonja and Ramona, and when Ramona mentioned Aviva, Sonja wasn't thrilled. I guess they made up after that and I just don't remember. Either way, how do you go from being wary of someone to being blindly supportive of them in no time?

So glad Sonja's pipes got mentioned.  That was another great looney moment last night.  Sonja's two minutes away from taking down the drapes to make herself a go to Rhett dress.  The house was built in the 1890s was a nice touch.  I also kind of  chuckled over how she's now letting drop that she married "J P Morgan's grandson" and that she met him while working on a business deal.   It's like we're getting into some deep Sonja-American history here.  Sonja and the Robber Barons

[emphasis mine]

Copacabana, you rocked my internet today.

I agree something happened behind the scene.

Maybe Aviva is paying Sonja's gas bill. I can just hear Aviva saying

Come on be on my side, Sonja, and you will have hot water all winter long! Lol.

Idk, what happened but not buying we're close because our kids are.

My guess about Sonja's state of mind is that she's not mentally ill, but rather she's extremely involved in new-age philosophies, and she has a self-centered confidence that will not be rocked.  Although I think some of the Housewives are flaky in the way they believe in psychics and astrology (no offense intended to anyone here), Sonja seems very immersed in everything new-age, and she seems to believe that she can create her own reality.  And, we're witnessing the result.  One of the reasons I think this is because I've noticed that with mental illness and personality disorders, there's usually anger involved and sometimes unpredictable mood swings.  Sonja doesn't seem angry or even moody, just very convinced of her own uniqueness and wonderfulness, and she probably views concern or criticism as simply opinions from unenlightened, earth-bound people.

At the beginning of last season, Sonja was "introduced" to Aviva, and Aviva noted that she was nervous about seeing Sonja, given the relationship with Harry, but that Sonja was "as cool as a cucumber" and all was okay. For their kids to have been longtime besties just doesn't fit with the narrative we saw on-screen. In fact, Aviva mentioned in a blog entry last season that she was hurt that Sonja would pal around with Harry, knowing that he owed child support for Harrison. (It was one of her "women should support women" soapbox rants.)

I'm with Carole. I don't understand that friendship at all. Growing up, my parents were not friendly with my best friends' parents, other than cordial chit-chat. It's one thing to be friendly and breezy (the sort of bonhomie Sonja undoubtedly excels at), and another to be Aviva's defender/egger-onner/apologist.

As for Heather's theory that Aviva's got something sordid on Sonja, heck, I think Sonja would love to be in the middle of some scandal. If she had a sex tape, she'd be leaking it herself!

Thanks, that sounds familiar. I should go watch last season. But you know, work and life interrupting my trashy TV obsession.
