Yeah, I think Julia looks great.  I think she made her nose a little too sharp/pointy for my tastes but other than that I think she just looks fantastic.

I know a lot of people dislike Gwyneth Paltrow but she posts a lot of makeup free pictures of herself and she looks so natural and fresh.

Same with Jamie Lee Curtis.  I think she's generally well liked though but the same in the sense that she doesn't go out of her way not to look her age!

Jamie Lee Curtis has been pretty outspoken about aging naturally and actresses not being shit on by the media for having normal figures because of her own experiences. I read interview with her a long time ago where she talked about the pressure she felt to maintain her figure because of tabloids making fun of her and how the handful of times she tried plastic surgery, it was always botched. She also got addicted to painkillers after a procedure.

Courteney Cox is another one who had a fair amount of work done, and I hate that she felt that way. She was so pretty before she did anything.

I will say I have a vague memory of her saying, a little while after the fact, that she regretted it. I don't *think* I'm making that up haha

I love her for this! She is still beautiful, and the fact that she embraces the changes aging has brought and exudes so much self confidence is inspiring.

I won't get into the fairness, because that's too murky, but Katherine's definitely blacklisted.  Women want the career of Julia Roberts, not to be just relegated to Netflix (though obviously all the big stars are doing TV now -- that wasn't her plan after Knocked Up, believe me!)

I'm sure she wanted a Rachel McAdams type of career.  Rachel is certainly not doing a Netflix show (or wherever Firefly Lane is?) and even Rachel has the career she has with saying No to huge projects like "The Devil Wears Prada".

Katherine has done some of the worst movies I've ever seen.  I know movies like 27 Dresses have their fans but I am not one of them.  And I never saw "Life as We Know it" because the previews displayed a baby shitting on her face.  I was like yeah i'm not seeing that.  I don't need to know about that life.

There's no guarantee that Katherine Heigl would've had a Rachel McAdams type career regardless of what happened with Grey's Anatomy.  She chose some real stinkers before all the shit hit the fan, so maybe it wouldn't have worked out for her.  We'll never really know.

I agree, but she didn’t deserve being called a sell-out for doing what thousands of other actresses have already done.

Everyone does it but you're expected to lie through your teeth about it because you're supposed to be "naturally beautiful." It's like those ridiculous scenes in movies and tv shows where tiny 115-pound actresses over the age of 25 talk about how much they love junk food and never exercise.

I don't think she would have. She's pretty and all, but she's very generic. She's very doll like but lacks that sparkle. Rachel has a sort of inner glow. She also has a more approachable personality. KH has done several things that have made her seem less appealing to hire. She bashed a movie she was in, she backed out of her contract, she basically shit on the writers of the show that made her a success by saying they didn't give her good enough material to nominate her for an Emmy.

I don't think she needed to be blackballed. I think it's just that her behaviour made people not want to work with her. If anyone blackballed her it was her.

This was kind of the whole original discussion we were having.  Somebody said she isn't blacklisted specifically because of these things, I argued that she sort of is because I don't think this is exactly the career she had in mind.  Some may think that she would have had the same career either way, that's fine too, but I don't agree.

I just can't find someone that has projects listed on IMDb for nearly every single year blacklisted. I'm sure she doesn't have the career she wanted but a lot of people don't and they weren't 'blacklisted.'

She probably didn't get big or have a Rachel McAdams type career partly because she just didn't have 'it' and, of course, because she proved to be kind of a pain in the ass lol. I'm sure a lot of people didn't want to take chance on her for that reason, but it seems many others did and she's doing fine.

I like Katherine Heigl. But I just don't see her as blacklisted.

Well, she’s said plenty of things that turned out to not be fully true lol. That may be how she feels but that doesn’t necessarily make it true.

I do like Katherine Heigl and I don’t even think the stuff she said/did is that big of a deal but I’m not that up in arms over people not wanting to work with her over it. It’s not like the actresses that got blacklisted because of the Harvey Weinstein situation.

''My mother will let me wear a miniskirt and a blouse with my nipples showing,'' she told the New York Times when she was 16. ''And once there was this black dress that had the sides cut out, and my father said in his accent, 'Zat lukes gret, rilly sexy.' And I had to say, 'No, it's too sophisticated for me.'''

Sobieski told AnOther in 2018 that she'd begun paying the rent on her parents' home when she was 15 and had felt immense pressure from a young age. Add to that the physical aspects of the job, and it just wasn't worth it.

“Things got complicated for me… So when I could, I stopped," she told the outlet. "It’s kind of a gross industry—well, they all are, when you examine them—but in acting you’re selling your appearance so much. I would cry every time I had to kiss somebody; I couldn’t stomach it. I would think ‘I like this person, so I don’t think they should pay me to kiss them,’ or ‘I don’t like this person, so I don’t want to kiss them’. Why is my kiss for sale?’ It made me feel really cheap."

She added, "I don’t know why it’s legal for a child to act. It’s a crazy double standard, and that’s super weird for me. Now that the MeToo movement has come forward, people understand more that it’s pretty gross and uncomfortable.”

Yeah, if you know your daughter is too young to even read the script of the movie she's in, so all she knows about her character is she's standing there in bra and panties with two nearly-naked grown men and her father who's calling her a whore and threatening to kill her before she runs off to whisper seductively in some other grown man's ear, maybe don't put her in that movie.

She is so good at Regina George that I often forget it's her.  It's hard to be a chameleon with a face that beautiful - but she is.

There was this poll about who should been nominated for the 2005 Oscar for Best Supporting Actress that wasn't and it was a real film head poll too, and the #1 vote getter was Rachel in "Mean Girls".  I couldn't believe that one of my normie mainstream opinions was shared by all these pretentious people.

I think I knew intellectually that Rachel McAdams was Regina George, but my brain just nearly exploded realizing that Allie from The Notebook (not a movie I like but that's besides the point) and Regina from Mean Girls (a movie I love) is the same human being. LOL She's so good as Regina that I don't even register her as an actress in the movie.

This is sort of how I feel about her. I understand why people view her as ungrateful but she was right. I don’t think she addressed the Denny storyline. She did refer to Izzie/George as a ratings ploy and she was right. The movie she criticized was Knocked Up and once again she was right.

Quote

"It was a little sexist," she told Vanity Fair. "It paints the women as shrews, as humourless and uptight, and it paints the men as lovable, goofy, fun-loving guys. It exaggerated the characters, and I had a hard time with it, on some days. I’m playing such a bitch; why is she being such a killjoy? Why is this how you’re portraying women? Ninety-eight per cent of the time it was an amazing experience, but it was hard for me to love the movie."

When actors say things like this they are refreshingly honest. When actresses do they are difficult and ungrateful. People love when Robert Pattinson complains about how bad Twilight was. Bill Murray is stunningly unprofessional on set but has been viewed as lovable and kooky. Idris Elba called his role on Thor torture and it’s treated as a fun fact. Natalie Portman was unhappy that her role in Thor was substantial changed from what she signed on for and she is considered arrogant.

I think I’d be able to put more weight behind Heigls comments about sexism if she hadn’t followed Knocked Up with The Ugly Truth. Knocked Up had its faults but the Ugly Truth is a mortifyingly sexist and awful film. It could have been written by a teenage boy who has never met yet hates women.

I dunno...I've never seen either film, but as an actress, sometimes you have to just take a film that will pay, no matter how you feel about it. I've never actually seen GA or any film starring Heigl. My experience with her was watching the TV show Roswell, where she played the bitchy one and she was good.

It's tough enough being a woman in the movie/TV business if we start demanding they only choose roles that make women look good they're doomed.  I admit it, I watch a show like Two and a Half Men where most of the women in the main cast are just horrible people and I think why would someone come on to this show as a guest star knowing they are going to be made to look bad too and I question that choice.  Yet honestly they are probably just as thrilled to get that pay cheque as I am to get mine!

You make a good point And I think that’s true in a lot of cases BUT this was at the height of her career when she was getting offered everything and anything. The pay cheque was obviously alluring and she’s entitled to take the money as there was definetly worse films out there. I just think slating Knocked Up for being offensive to women and then doing that film was a bit hypocritical.

And maybe the movies read better on paper, but the improvisation and direction changed the tone entirely.   I don’t think I’ve seen either movie or much of GA and I don’t know Heigl at all, but I try not to accept the “she is difficult” label at face value for anyone, especially when years later a co-star who stayed quiet at the time publicly declares she was right after all.

Jared Padalecki (Walker, Supernatural) was a passenger in a serious car accident last week.  As of Sunday, he was recuperating at home.

The news of the accident was originally shared by Jensen Ackles at a fan convention that Padalecki was scheduled to appear at.

Update:  On Tuesday afternoon, Padalecki posted a follow-up on Twitter (see end of this post), stating that he is "hoping to return to filming later this week", so it looks like any injuries were minor.

From the People.com article (emphasis added):

Quote

"I don't know if you guys know what's going on," Ackles says, sharing that his costar had given him permission to share. "He was in a very bad car accident. He wasn't driving, he was in the passenger seat, and he's lucky to be alive."

...

"And not only that," Ackles continued. "But he's a home recovering which — the fact that he's not in a hospital right now is blowing my mind because I saw the car."

...

Ackles continued, sharing that the "airbag packs a punch." He also shared that Padalecki said the accident felt like he had "gone 12 rounds with [Mike] Tyson"

Here's the tweet from Tuesday afternoon:

For me, it really doesn’t matter that much if she is a hypocrite or difficult. Mostly because she paid for those comments far more than she could have ever deserved in large part because of the massive double standard. Also because what she said wasn’t that bad. She called it a little bit sexist and it was. She pointed out negative traits in the women in the movie which was true. She didn’t say she hates the movie or even that the movie wasn’t good. She only said she was conflicted about it. She may have been equally conflicted about The Ugly Truth but there is no way she was going to say that after the reaction to her Knocked Up comments. Actors have said and done far worse and never got a fraction of the backlash.

If she had suffered career consequences for comments about one project, I'd be beating the unfair sexism bandwagon. But with Katherine Heigl, there has been just so much that I find it hard to go to pure sexism.

She didn't just make a comment about one role.  She's making comments about her most successful and well-received roles-plural.  I don't think it's that she had issues with a long work day but that she took out her dissatisfaction with a story by removing herself from contention from the Emmys in a very public way.

Before she got Grey's, I remember there were rumors about her being a pill on the Roswell set because she wasn't the star and she (and her mother) thought she was supposed to be the leading lady.

Sexism is real.  Also real?  The fact that there have been compounding issues with Katherine and I think laying this all at sexism's feet is too simplistic.  Plus, public opinion isn't the same thing as a decision makers opinion.  If they think a person can make money for them, there's usually more tolerance.

And that's why they still hire her for TV roles.  (So blackballed?  Nope.)

The perception that KH was blackballed is really not correct imo.  She has always been working.  Even after her comments about Knocked Up and Greys, they kept her on at Greys and she made three other theatrical wide release rom coms.

It was only after she didn't show up to work on Grey's that they finally decided trying to work with her movie schedule wasn't cutting it.

After that, she got the very plum (ha!) lead role of Stephanie Plum from Janet Evanovich's very popular series.  Getting  a lead role on a movie adaptation of a super popular, long running book series is major.  But that didn't take off because the movie was bad.   And ever since then she's been getting the lead role in major network TV ensemble series.

You know who really has been blackballed in Hollywood because of their views?  Mo'Nique.  She won an entire Oscar and couldn't book any roles because she was labelled as difficult because she wouldn't campaign for the Oscar.  She didn't bad mouth anyone.  She just didn't want to go full court press campaign for an Oscar.

I hope so. When I watched Scarlett Johannson's GQ "timeline of my career" video what struck me was how she casually mentions that they weren't sure if he would actually show up for shooting Lost in Translation. I mean, who gets away with such unprofessional behaviour?

Btw, I always thought his character in Ghostbusters was a prick. The movie depicts sexually harrassing a student and hurting another as funny. He should have been fired for that alone.  This tells you a lot about what was considered funny and acceptable back then. That movie has aged terribly. So has he and what he thinks he can get away with.

I loved that movie as a kid, but yeah, watching it as a grown woman it makes me cringe, though even as a kid I hated the beginning with the "funny" bit where he would zap the guy and let the girl make all the wrong answers without a single zap. That was never funny.

Yep, I've read several places about several movies that no one was sure Murray was going to show up.  What an ass.

You can try to categorize Janelle Monáe, but they defy every label.

The visionary singer-songwriter behind albums like The Electric Lady and Dirty Computer appeared on the season premiere of Jada Pinkett Smith’s Red Table Talk Wednesday, casually tossing out a big detail about herself: they now identify as nonbinary.

“I’m nonbinary, so I just don’t see myself as a woman, solely,” Monáe explained early in the conversation. “I feel like God is so much bigger than the ‘he’ or the ‘she.’ And if I am from God, I am everything. I am everything. But I will always, always stand with women. I will always stand with Black women. But I just see everything that I am. Beyond the binary.”

In a Los Angeles Times interview published on Thursday, Monáe also noted, “My pronouns are free-ass motherfucker — and they/them, her/she.”

For longtime fans, this information might not come as a huge bombshell. After coming out as pansexual in a cover interview for Rolling Stone in 2018, Monáe tweeted “#IAmNonbinary” two years later, but hedged in subsequent interviews, telling The Cut she used the hashtag “to bring more awareness to the community.”

As Monáe revealed to Jada and Willow Smith (who made a special request to invite Monáe on the show), she simply wasn’t yet ready to fully unveil herself to the world back in 2020.

“I thought I needed to have all my answers correct [before coming out as nonbinary,]” they told the Smiths. “I don’t want to say the wrong thing, and also I hadn’t had the necessary conversations yet with my family [...] I didn’t want to work that out with the world.”

Monáe’s family has always been deeply religious and conservative, she explained. “But I was ready,” she added. “I was like, ‘You know what, if they don’t love me, don’t call me asking for no money.’”
