I'm not in love with the Jex pairing, but I will say I love that we're seeing a young woman taking charge of and enjoying her sexuality. You don't get to see that a lot, especially on American soaps which still emphasize the virginal heroines.

I may be swimming barge-ward for the first time since about 2015. It's not really that the show is worse now than it was when Shelly and Jean were writing, but the irritation-to-fun ratio has been wrong way around for too long. I conclude most episodes thinking I got nothing out of them; I'm just watching because I did it the day before. There's nothing I'm hopeful about or look forward to seeing. Nothing realistic, anyway.

Points in support of bailing out:

  • If I hate a character, they'll be on all the time, usually with the writers attempting to ennoble and vindicate them.
  • If I like a character, they'll get written as if the writers are trying to get me to change my mind.
  • There are too many characters on the canvas who serve little purpose other than allowing the actors to continue working, and the pacing of ongoing stories is terrible.
  • There are always more entertaining ways of spending the <40 minutes it takes to watch an episode. Even if I limit myself to television, I can do better, no matter what time of day it is.
  • Waiting around for a regime change is pointless. Anyone who would do a measurably better job would not be writing or producing daytime soaps, because daytime soaps belong to another era. They still have some good actors—some just breaking into the business, others having been in daytime for so long that it's their niche—but I can see good acting in other places. See point #4.

Carly's Scarlett O'Hara moment last week, in which she said she started out with nothing and ended up on top, and whatever she's lost she will get back, may have been my last straw. Scarlett O'Hara sort of works as a parallel for Carly, because they both "ended up on top" through a combination of force of will, lack of scruples, and attaching themselves to the right men at the right times, but as unfashionable as some of its specifics are today, Gone with the Wind told that story in a more entertaining way. And a more nuanced way, in that it didn't expect us to love and admire the protagonist without qualification. (Also, Scarlett's business sense was made more believable.)

This show is gross. Carly gets forgiven for every single sin. Everyone has to understand her motivation and she gets whitewashed when they change said motivation. Sam should have clawed her eyes out, not forgiven her.

In real life, Carly would have no friends.

And then we have Drewfus telling Sonny how he wouldn't change things. Bitch, shut your mouth and take a seat.

Aww, and Willow is all good and gets to go home! What a miracle!

I'm gonna go put my head in the fridge to cool down now.

it’s a thread, but yes that’s the gist of it. And it’s really hard to deny any of it, given what we’ve been shown.

Yeah, I'm starting to think that too and I saw it happen on All My Children way back with Cliff and Angie (though I think it was more from fans, as they were missing their old partners, Nina for Cliff and Jessie for Angie, so not quite the same situation here). And other soap stories with Black/White partners as well

I just watched last few episodes. So they're trying to turn Austin into Todd Manning? That's desperation.

Esme and Spencer bonding? I kinda liked it. (Leaving aside all the ugly  baggage... the actors seem very comfortable with each other.) I do feel for Sprina fans though.  Joss and Dex get to have sexy scenes and Trina gets put on the shelf like the good china. Not cool, Show.

Thanks to Elon, I can no longer read Twitter as I refuse to give that asshat any of my money.
I am glad that someone ripped TIIC about how assbackwards the show and network are.
Shut up Sam! What about your daughter? Isn’t she important than Carly? This is such crap.
And don’t get me started on this Willow nonsense.

Nobody is more important than Carly, her feelings, or her family of stooges.

And here we go with Sasha. She hasn't suffered enough, has she. This is torture porn at this point.

Shady psychiatrist has the same nursing books on his shelf as Dr. Finn does. Very shady giving Sasha benzos on top of her other medications. Why is this guy risking his license for Gladys?

Ugh, it's all good news for Willow and Michael. This show hates me.

What do the producers have against Cassandra James? Once again, TJ is Willow's doctor against medical ethics.

Jeff Kober is making Drew marginally more interesting. Was that a screwdriver in the Bible? Or a shiv?

So  today, after admitting that she is angry at what is happening to Drew, Sam not only totally absolves Carly but asks her how she's doing and stays to make her feel better from all her problems and stress.

Good parallel. But Scarlett was smarter and stronger than Carly. And didn't need everyone to prop her.  I can't remember the last time a man rejected Carly (Sonny doesn't count since she rejected him first).

I figured it was a shiv.

In spite of the advice people in the know gave him, the first thing Drew does is mouth off to someone who obviously has more privileges than he does. Most people might be a little more cagey. He is too stupid to live. But, unfortunately, he will.

Seriously, though, this reaches more obscene levels by the day.

LOL at the intake montage at Pentonville. I DON'T FEEL SORRY FOR DREWFUS, SHOW. He is totally responsible for why he's there.

I wish Cyrus had used the shiv on Drew. Ugh, he's unbearable.

Just because the shrink gave Sasha benzos doesn't mean she has to take them. I know the shrink is Up To No Good, but good grief. Sasha's concerns seemed eminently reasonable, and Dr. Sonny Corinthos agrees with me, so that should be the end of it.

Sadly, many people in Sasha’s and other similar situations have to take all prescribe medication or be labelled “non compliant” and suffer terrible consequences. I hope the show is not going to go there but I suspect that as @YaddaYadda said, torture porn it will be, which is why I can’t continue watching this.

I did not know this, so thanks for the info. Sasha will probably end up at Shady Brooke or something, while SM is on mat leave. Too bad they can't just send her upstairs for a three-month nap the way they did Jessica on OLTL when Bree Williamson had her baby.

After the inauspicious beginning, I spent the episode trying to think of current characters who haven't been incarcerated or institutionalized at some point.  So far, I've got Ace, Amelia, Wiley, Leo, Violet, Georgie, James, Scout and the largely invisible Rocco.

Admittedly, I deleted nearly a year's worth of episodes unwatched a few years ago, so I'm sure I've missed some.  Maybe Olivia and Felicia? Who else did I miss?

I read the tweets. More than pointing out that Trina was being put on the shelf and that there was barely any romance in this love story, the writer made pointed reference to the fact that Spencer was bonding with the woman who drugged and set up his girlfriend, and going on and on defending the honor of her best friend... coincidentally both of those women are white women. Spencer is spending more time and energy on Joss and Esme than he is Trina.  They also pointed out how GH/ABC was clearly approving press for the pair (ala the recent People article), but not following through on the show itself.

Sadly true. If Sasha does not take the pills, he will put in his report to the court that she is non-compliant and oppositional, and possibly aggressive and Gladys will remain her guardian. Sadly Sasha will probably become addicted to drugs again and have to go to Shady Brooke.

It's so stupid because what would Gladys offer him to make it worth while risking his license for malpractice?

He didn't sleep with her beyond that one time but he abetted her and cleaned up her messes. I don;t think that he would ever have said to her "Frankly my dear, I don't give a damn."

Since most people who have been through a drug rehabilitation program (like Sasha) and want to stay off drugs (like Sasha) are encouraged to always inform health care providers about their problematic past in order to avoid relapses, I'm surprised she seemed to be pleased to have been given a drug. (Way to take the quickest way out, writers.)

They could have had her doing a promotion somewhere offscreen if anyone wanted to know where she was. She only shows up sporadically anyway; chances are most viewers wouldn't even have realized she was on leave.

I literally groaned when Sam went from "I'm mad" to "I forgive you" in two seconds. God forbid anyone except evil Nina be mad at Carly for anything ever. The only thing missing from those scenes was Sam giving Carly a sympathy card from Scout.

If someone had told me circa 1996 that Carly would one day be written as a Mary Sue, I'd have laughed out loud. She was a much more interesting character when she was the town pariah and people actually held her accountable for all the shitty things she did.

Felicia was institutionalized in 1993, during the original Ryan story. I think Austin would be included in the never locked up list (although that may change soon).

That's next week when Sam brings Scout over so Scout can tell Carly how sorry she is and that missing her Daddy pales in comparison to what Carly must be going thru.  Oh, and she'll bring her piggy bank over to help with Carly's fine, given today all of a sudden she doesn't have the money to pay it (as opposed to last week when she had $5M in her savings).

LOL, at Drew's pissy attitude during his intake.  Dude, ya did it to yourself.  Even if you didn't fall on your sword for Carly, you're guilty, chump.  And it doesn't matter if the SEC got the information "out of spite"(go to hell, Carly), that doesn't make it any less true.

ETA: Boy, I'm loathe to say anything positive about Michael, but he seemed more concerned about the precautions Willow should take than TJ did.  TJ's like "meh, have the staff disinfect."  Ah, and naturally, Carly and Joss are at the top of the list who will probably be there every chance they get--no doubt to run into Nina and give her the stink eye.

So that they can hate her all the more when it is revealed that Nina was the villain who turned Carly and Drew in. (These writers are such hacks.) For three years while Drew is in prison, and longer because of the loss to Scout and Carly

True, but I also remember Peter Bergman saying how Cliff/Angie on AMC got push back as far back as 1989, and I think it was one reason the show brought Nina back for a final time and remarried her and Cliff before Bergman was let go (worked out for him as he got Y&R not long after!).

The point being, ABC is fine with interracial love stories if they can half-ass them, but it seems for every such story on GH, TPTB did get gun shy, as my list above can attest.

The fact that I read Spencer/Avery got zero interruption for their scenes, when Spencer/Trina can barely date, well... So, for me, my opinion stands. Mileage may vary.

I believe this is still on-topic - Trina being side-lined for Esme.

From the bird app - user @Dee1_only1

Congratulations

@GeneralHospital

@ABCNetwork

you’ve motivated someone who has never tweeted before to tweet, that’s quite a feat cause I’ve seen some things on this app; I’ve laughed, I’ve cried, I’ve felt hurt, I’ve felt outraged, but I’ve never felt the need to tweet until now.

You used a predominantly black fanbase to promote your show, dangled a heroine love story for Trina in front of us like a carrot & then proceeded to rollout, in my opinion, the most biased, offensive story.

Trina is played to be alone, dumb and sidelined while her boyfriend bonds with the person who drugged and framed her and constantly fights for the honour of Trina’s best friend. Both white women..

And yet

let publications (just this past week People Magazine referred to them as a “super couple” in the making) publicize the pairing of Spencer and Trina (if you didn’t approve these articles, then exactly what is going on at your company?).

is this the kind of “love” story u think a black character & by extension black women should settle for? Am I to applaud u for doing less than the bear minimum? Your cast is predominantly white but the black people can’t get whole characterization?

As far as I’m aware no one asked that you pair Spencer & Trina, you did that, but somehow I am not supposed to expect proper follow through?

Am I not supposed to interpret it as offensive when Trina is virginal (not engaging in sex and romance like her white counterparts) and has no other potential romantic options, but her white boyfriend has three?

Your own social media accounts referred to Trina as the interrupter in a scene with her, her boyfriend & her victimizer.

Oh wait, you did give her a romantic option but didn’t bother to vet the actor who played her love interest to see if he was bigoted. (He was).

racism aside (and believe me, I do think this is racist) the most offensive thing about all of this is the insult to my intelligence.

to cater to their racist/bigoted audience that is fine, it’s your show to do with as you see fit but don’t use a predominantly black fanbase to promote your show and give them nothing.

Oh sorry you did give them something…you gave them deep hurt and disappointment.

One more thing. I don’t think I have to tell professional story tellers that it’s not just the ending that matters.

Brava, Dee! I feel *exactly* the same way. I will *never* trust Frank Valentini again. I will *never* allow him and his cohorts/writers to gaslight me by saying, 'Wait and see'. 'Trust us'. HA!

I really don't fucking get it. Interracial relationships have been common since the 90's. It's not a big deal at all. I don't get why it's still getting treated like one.

Maybe some people are sick of seeing that.  Maybe some people think it’s an agenda being forced down their throats.  Or maybe — and this is the big one — people are just overreacting.

That certain fanbase is always crying about something.  Now, they’re writing essays on Twitter like the network will actually listen to them.  Why don’t they waste money on another plane or billboard for their tears.

I don't believe Spencer is going to sleep with Esme, it was one scene.  I think Sprina will make up next appearance.  I do however understand the deeper frustrations people have with the writing for Sprina.  Right off the bat, the most glaring thing is; they are young and in love.  They almost had sex in Greenland.  And then never mentioned it again.  Come oN!  They would have hit the sheets within 48 hours upon return.

For me, I am taking a break and it's not because of Sprina.  It's because when I saw the tweets about Sam licking Carly butt, I knew I couldn't watch it and I knew right in that second, I'm done.  I hope they get cancelled.  Frank wants to go down with Laura Wright, let them go down.  I'm out.  This week and next week.  Then I will read recaps and see if anything has changed, which I do not expect to happen, lol

What Portia is doing to push Spencer and Esmé together is wrong, definitely, but Portia is Trina's mother, so she has some standing to stick her nose in her daughter's business in a more general sense. I've never thought kids have a right to know what's going on in their parents' relationship.

But it's a soap, and everyone is always way too involved in other people's personal business.

As a mother, I can understand Portia’s concern , however,  I can also see a time when Trina will see her mother’s actions as a betrayal. Esme is the girl who drugged her. Portia trying to push Esme and Spencer, who Trina loves, together is not going to go down well in her daughter’s eyes.
