I have a feeling we're gonna have a lot to say about Meghan on Wednesday and Friday.

Oh, and I just noticed that Tuesday may not be fun, with Neil deGrasse Tyson on.  He's also on Colbert's show tomorrow night.  I think these are his first talk show appearances since the sexual misconduct allegations against him came out last year.

Meg will be fawning over Rand Paul's book

When the hosts walk out from backstage, MM is always scowling.  All the others are smiling, laughing, happy to be there.   Nutty comes out pissed off from the get-go.  It was especially apparent right now this morning.   Hmmmm...does Joy's birthday have anything to do with that?   I hope so!  Anything that annoys the Princess of Arizona is A-okay with me.

Oh my god, Sunny is fawning all over Whoopie so much it's making me queasy.   And watching Whoop bask in it is. . . . . . no words.

You're right, Ladyrain, she actually sighed in exasperation as she sat down, and I thought, "uh oh."

(Does she realize how many people would love to have her job, and be grateful for it, and enjoy being there?)

Added -I bet Meghan's going to bring up the fact that we just abandoned the Kurds in Syria -that might be why she's upset.

I agree with MM about her Syria rant (never thought I'd type those words), however it was devilishly sly of her to co-opt Joy's birthday celebration, knowing full well how this was going to dominate the internet.   She just couldn't let Joy have her big day, could she.   Then again, pigs are flying because I agreed with her.   Pains me to say.

Whoopi tried co-opting too.

BINGO!!!

Before the break, when she first started talking, I thought she was going to say something of a personal nature.  But then she said she'd been mad since she woke up; when I turned on the tv at 7 a.m. the top story was the news that the White House had announced late last night the immediate withdrawal of troops from Syria.  Then I read that Lindsey Graham had called in to Fox to criticize the president (knowing he was probably watching), so I had a feeling.

They should have put the lyrics on the screen when Joy and Mario were singing so we could follow along.  I'll have to go back and catch what I missed.

Mario?  was this the surprise guest?  Mario who and what did they sing?  Dying to know.  🙂

We had more time on Sunny fawning  all over Whoopi , it was quite possibly as cringeworthy,  as Sunny's white outfit.

She seemed to be in awe more so than fawning imo - appreciating Whoopi the actress and how Tyler Perry chose to honor her. And to be in the presence of Oprah, Will & Jada-Pinkett Smith, Halle Berry, Spike Lee, Beyonce & Jay-Z, Denzel Washington, John Lewis and on and on... I mean, just the epitome of what I call Black Excellence in cinema, politics, entertainment and more. I'd still be basking in it too if I were Sunny. Like she said, Mani looked at her and said, "I married a federal prosecutor." I can't imagine how overwhelming the experience must've been.

While I don't really like Whoopi as a moderator, as an actress the praise is well-deserved. Just my two cents though.

Mario Cantone sang a version of 'Joy to the World' with new lyrics written by his husband, that pertained to impeachment, so of course Joy thoroughly enjoyed it.

Thank you!  They're friends aren't they?  When you said "Mario" , I knew it was going to be Cantone.

She really is.  (And here I was thinking this was her 76th birthday).

Yes, I think so.  I hope you can see it later; it was very clever.

Abby was kind of an asshole today. I don’t agree with her most of the time, but usually she’s polite at least. I really wish we could've got the advertised topic about Bernie Sanders' heart attack being treated differently (better) by the media than Hillary fainting at the 9/11 memorial in 2016.

I love Joy. Her being a Libra isn’t surprising to me. I’ve always found Libras to be good judges of people and events, imo, and getting an honest, clear-eyed view from her is the reason I’ve always appreciated Joy being on TV. Unlike Whoopi, she doesn't enjoy all the self-aggrandizement. Happy birthday to The View Queen!

Man, Abby really is vacuous. She has nothing to offer to the conversation.

Birthday episodes are so boring. I turned it off as soon as Mario was introduced.

Aww you missed the off tempo song!  I guess the words were playing, like karaoke,  but everybody was a beat behind.  Props to Mario for keeping it all going..  did you see the trumpcake? Haha funny, someone will post it Im sure.  But i get it re: Abby. Cant say it enough....annoying...sigh

You put that so well @GoldenGirl90.  Ive pretty much grown up with WG.,,from her earliest comic days on HBO.  Her shows were always deeply personal and poignant.  Always about the crises of the times and the state of the world. But would always find a way to bring it back around locally maybe, in your neighbor.  I wonder if those are on DVD  somewhere.

Just listened to MM’s Kurd tirade.  While she was going on I got an image of her being turned loose on the battle field with her guns and gnashing teeth, tearing up the  country side.  Bet she could do some real damage, especially if Jack D is on board.

I loved Joy for a very long time before I found out are birthdays are 3 days apart.

She’s like me doesn’t like the attention. My daughter-in-law told the waiter to quietly bring the birthday dessert that I wouldn’t like any attention.  Seems one difference  is she has the patience to put up with her co workers rudeness ,disrespect and general asshatness.  Once she got over the Christmas trees she got into the song.

Nice going Me-again to choose to “ go rogue” ( nice shout out to Palin) this morning.  Every part of her visual skin was beet red ,palms of her hands ,chest and ears.

Joy said she loves all the girls and that this is one of her favourite panels of The View.

When Sunny was listing all the people at the big Tyler Perry party, she mentioned Kapernick.  Me-Again made some kind of noise but I could not catch what she said.

Whoopi mangled reading the teleprompter when she announced Diahann Carroll's passing, and then blamed it on the script not being correct and she would fix that later, but then she never did.  It said that Carroll was the first black woman on TV in a non-servant role.  Which I think was correct.

Here's an article about Me-Again going rogue.

I share my birthday with Joy and prefer no fuss.  She should have had the choice of a Megun-free day.

I think so too.  "Julia" was a nurse and I remember it being a big thing when we watched it back then.  A few movies had non-servant black women, but you didn't see them for free on TV in your own home.  And people of all colours watched it. The timing was also important as it began in September 1968 after the assassinations of MLK & RFK and race riots. The network was thinking of delaying the premiere, but went ahead with it, which was a good idea.

I think the big deal was that Diahann Carroll was the first Black woman to star in her own TV show.  Black women had been on tv, but never as the STAR of a show.

Truth. I just saw her appearance on one of my favorite Law & Order: Criminal Intent episodes--"To the Bone" where she plays a cold-blooded Foster-mother murderer. Still gives me chills. Her performance was nothing short of FANTASTIC.  The complete antithesis of Oda Mae Brown and Rose Schwartz*

I swear, if the ladies start kissing Priyanka's ass over how much of a great Bollywood actress and dancer she is tomorrow, I'magonnafloodthisthread with youtube videos of Madhuri Dixit. Her SHEER and Natural Talent just makes Priyanka look like a poseur and reveals her mediocrity. Because these women just can't resist asking and saying the same things they asked and said the last time she was on.

Why no, I'm not biased at all. Not a'tall!

As a fellow Libra, I agree about not liking attention. I will bypass the free dessert for fear of the singing waiters.

I'm a Capricorn & I'd "die a thousand deaths" if the attention was on me with waiters singing Happy Birthday.  My niece tried it once at The Keg & I looked her dead in the eye & said "NO".  She got the message & so did the waiters.

I thought I once remembered reading about a TV show called Beulah and I looked it up on Wikipedia (bolding mine):

Quote

Beulah is an American situation-comedy series that ran on CBS Radio from 1945 to 1954, and on ABC Television from 1950 to 1952. The show is notable for being the first sitcom to star an African American actress.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beulah_(radio_and_TV_series)

Beulah was a housekeeper, so yeah, Diahann Carroll was the first black woman to star in a TV show in a non-stereotypical role.
