Most Cliched TV (& Movie) Phrases
Trini replied to Kromm's topic in The TV Bazaar: Assorted TV-Adjacent Talk
Because these procedurals always have to have a misdirect before we find the actual killer: Red Herring Suspect: "Hey, I may have [done something dumb/evil/illegal], but I didn't kill [him/her]!!" Ugh -- I've heard this too many times. -
Aw man! Really wonder why it's taking so long.

Say What?: Commercials That Made Us Scratch Our Heads

I'm sure somewhere along the process of making this ad someone knew this exact thing would happen, and they went ahead and approved it anyway, so it's on them. -
I'm So Disappointed In You: Celebrity Missteps
Trini replied to OtterMommy's topic in Everything Else TV
Who is the "us" that she is supposedly trying to "manipulate"?? She filed a typical request for support that had nothing to do with anyone else not involved. Again, we don't know her life or bank accounts. She herself hasn't made that assertion. In any case, there are other issues outside of finances. [I mean, look how fast this story went from 'Jackson doesn't pay child support' to 'Turner-Smith is a manipulator'.]- 1.4k replies

Why are we assuming the worst of her when it's Jackson's words she's referring to? (And that's not even what she said anyhow.) And even with money (and we don't know her bank accounts), I'd argue it's still a struggle being Black, a woman, and a single mother. -

Just from the info there, seems like they're still in the process of negotiating the details, and it probably isn't willful neglect. -
FilmNight: Movies you watched recently
Trini replied to Rushmoras's topic in Everything Else About Movies
Recently watched Cyrano (2021); didn't feel like resurrecting the topic for my quick thoughts: Gorgeous to look at! Peter Dinklage was great; the rest of the cast as well. Obviously, the role was tailored to Dinklage, but re-imagining Cyrano as having dwarfism rather than a huge nose worked well. Was underwhelmed by most of the songs and singing. Dinklage clearly isn't a singer, but he did his best and wasn't terrible. And I guess I thought I knew the story of Cyrano, but I guess I didn't, because I was surprised Anyway, would recommend! ---- It may also have to do with everything being hi-def these days, as opposed to then. But yeah, the effects in the original hold up remarkably well. -
With a whole lot of behind-the-scenes drama, apparently.

I agree -- to a certain extent. But I'd also argue that sometimes the 'source material' isn't all that awesome, and could use an update; especially when adapting it to a new medium, for a wider, modern audience.

Can "hardcore fans" ever really be pleased, though?

I'll attempt to DM you a photo, if I can figure it out. Otherwise I don't have time to type it out until tomorrow night.

Looking through my mom's Good Housekeeping Illustrated Cookbook (pub. 1980), there's a Chocolate Cream Pie recipe. Don't know if it's "really good"; I've never made it/had it.

His name is Krypto (the Superdog); seeing as how it's comics, he's had several different origins, but the main one is that he's a dog from Krypton and, like Superman, has powers on Earth with its yellow sun. He's been the pet of Superman, and others related to him over the years. https://www.dc.com/characters/krypto https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Krypto

For a "teaser", they kind of showed a lot? "Show all the characters in this" seemed to be a major mandate here. But yes, nice to see Superman in daylight! Not a fan of Gunn, so I'm only cautiously optimistic. I'm wondering if they put a piece on Corenswet's head for the Clark Kent look, or did they tease his actual hair? In any case, they sold the alterego aspect.

Too tired to comment on much; but in the cold open when they're, "Here's someone who was at the McDonald's", I was like, "It gonna be Kenan, isn't it?" - LOL, I was right! #smallvictories
