Guys it’s so crazy that so many young people are trying out!!!!!! But it’s like, so weird to me that Gina C. is so soft spoken and seems so mature because as we learned last year with Veruca 18 year olds are just naturally super immature!!!!! Gina C. must be a rare type of person!

A few q for this forum:

1. What vets were cut this year?

2. Also, why didn’t Dayton try out? K&J treated her horribly, but did she make a statement or anything? Is she totally done with DCC? 

3. What’s the forum’s opinion on Kitty?

I believe Dayton said she wouldn’t try out again unless there was no show anymore. I think the nasty comments online were too much. I might be wrong on this, though.

Hope you're feeling better now after your surgery!

Vet Gabby was cut.

Following her cut last season, Dayton said she would only consider re-auditioning once the show was no longer on the air.

I'll let the rest speak for Kitty but she lost the respect of many here last season when she said give Vic the respect she deserves to lose the 11 lbs she'd gained since auditions.

I am not sure which thread to post into, but we’ve talked about LGBT and gender issues on this forum before.  

This evening, I feel really conflicted that this show airs on Logo.  While no longer a gay channel, it’s programming is either campy or caters to demographics who appreciate camp (RuPaul, Will & Grace, Golden Girls).  So, as Travis Wall exemplified with his remarks about dancing with the cheerleaders being a gay man’s dream, DCCMTT seems to be a great show for Logo as it is campy and gay people are likely to enjoy it.  I certainly do, and I spend way too much time discussing this team.

At first blush, it looks very gay friendly.  Look at the judges!  Gay weatherman Scott, fierce circuit queen hair whisperer foster dad Marshall and girl-better-have-shape Rebel Athletic Executive Gordon all represent different gay male archetypes.  Marshall and Gordon have business interests in the Cowboys and are clearly respected suppliers.  

On the other hand, we haven’t seen LGBT-related My Cause, My Boots charities, we hear that Kitty Carter told her students to avoid LGBT topics in auditions in 2017, and Jinelle remained closeted until after leaving the DCC.  It is clear that the Cowboys are a don’t ask, don’t tell organization.

But of course, this is also a team that brought in and fairly quickly released gay draftee Michael Sam into its practice squad.  That’s a loaded topic, but I concede that the move suggests some openness by the Cowboys.

We love the DCC for its tradition, and this forum has debated the reasons for poor ethnic diversity and the lack of real consideration of a male DCC.  It feels like the Dallas Cowboys Football Club is stuck in 1999 with regard to LGBT issues.  

And so, I sit here conflicted.  The DCC seems like Austin—a progressive oasis in an often stiflingly conservative state.  A piece of me is happy that in 2019 in such a divided nation that the intersectionality of the DCC appeals to a wide array of people.  I sort of like that we are all accepting what the Cowboys are—a conservative organization operating in a conservative industry with a generally conservative male fan base with a cheer squad that expands its brand to more liberal fans.  

At the same time, having this show on Logo seems like an endorsement of the show and the Dallas Cowboys Football Club by MTV Networks.  Given that the DCFC seems to have institutional norms that prevent its people from addressing gay topics, it seems wrong that the show airs on a network that celebrates being out and proud.

I don’t want to get overly political here.  I am not trying to incite any debate.  I am just curious if anyone else finds this strange and may be similarly conflicted.

MTT is airing on VH1 (at least ep 1) and Logo because the new owner owns CMT and those channels as well.  I do find it somewhat conflicting, but I don't know that it is more than cross-branding because he owns them, not certain the thoughts went much further than that.

There is one thing to have an alumni dcc trainer advicing on the best course of action to achieve a goal, and there are institutional norms.

Also, if there were institutional norms, there would not be any gay men on the show.

IMHO there is no conflict to air MTT on a certain network. The only conflict that I see is that the projected advertisement revenue falls below the actual revenue (it is a TV show).

Totally formulaic, but overall a fun first episode. I liked getting introduced to multiple TCCs early on. I'm loving Kat (and when Judy was all, I'll come over the table for her!), but now I'm nervous she's one of the TCCs at risk for being cut, because they showed Travis Wall or someone saying they wanted to love her but she was struggling. I'm really hoping she makes the team. I legit shed a few tears when Amanda was talking about her brother. Those pictures of them together were so sweet, and I know losing a sibling at such a young age stays with a person forever. Beautiful dancer.

I thought Charm LaDonna was a great judge! Very kind, which I think is important, and I'm excited to see her work with the DCC this year.

WTF with Gina's hands? I have no way of knowing yet, of course, but I'm imagining she got overwhelmed with choreography in training camp and I'm hoping they told her she just needs some more time and they would like to see her back at auditions next year.

VK. Ugh. I admit that I loved that they 1) showed her spectacular fall at all, and 2) showed it before and after the commercial break and again during the deliberations scene. Yes, from that to a Barbie and SG does boggle the mind. She does look better physically, though, and while it seemed somewhat fake to me, I noticed she at least appeared to be trying to be supportive of the other candidates. 

Kelli's zipper was a little weird, but she's lost some weight and is looking good. I think she looks good heavier, too, just saying I think she's looking healthy and is pretty as always.

There was a deaf DCC back in the 90s too.  I think her name was Emily Clark, a really cute black girl who kept up based on the vibration of the music and closely observing those around her.

Regarding #MeToo Taylor: I did not believe her at all when she was talking about her media day catastrophe last year--when she tried to back it up and tell Kelli, she was familiar with the movement but just didn't know what it was called (pretty sure that's the embodiment of unfamiliarity, Taylor). And I didn't believe her this year either when she tried to say, "I do know what those things are." She was shaking her head back and forth as she said that, and such body language can be an unconscious indication the person is lying--the body is contradicting what the person is saying. (I spot this kind of body language on reality TV all the time, especially on the Bachelor/ette.) Lying to cover ignorance is...lame. Why not spend the year actually reading news and becoming more educated and aware of the world and instead being able to say, I tried to learn from last year and have worked to become a more informed person about that movement and the world in general? I guess probably because that's not how she spent her year. Very curious how she scored on the written test and how her interview went. I never was a fan of her look or dancing last year, before the media gaffe, but I'm very curious what it was that kept her out of camp this year. Her dancing? Still shitty at interviews? Her look? (Is it just me, or does her face look kind of puffy this year? I like her look even less than last year, and I thought then that she was one of the least attractive ladies in camp.) Or Kelli just won't forgive her (rightfully, in my opinion) for being so ignorant? Not sorry at all that she didn't make it into camp.

On a different note, WTF with the lady who said she justifies her obsession with poms because "God made puppies"??? Bless her heart. That's messed up.

She’s changed her major...at first her interests were in medicine, specifically sports with emphasis on concussions and the science of rejuvenating damaged brain cells. The last we spoke about school, she was interested in going to law school. Her summer intern jobs have varied from an advertising agency to social media with CMT. She may have done an internship out of high school with a magazine publisher too.

I think there are 9 spots. I know she said something about 8 last night but it ends up being 9. I’m guessing Meredith, Kristin get cut, but I have no opinion about the 3rd one.

So a few thoughts from epi 1... I don’t like Amanda, I know I’m in the minority here I loved her until I saw the show she seems pretty in love with herself & I’ll just say it she reminds me of the next Kalyssa... Taylor T seems like she’s gotten herself some enhancements she was so tiny & looked bigger all over, Veruca fake as ever& why didn’t she ever get braces? Was that a toned down Tina who hugged her at the end? Kelli’s dress was so odd with the zipper it Judy in periwinkle was stunning!

Keep checking iTunes to see if episode 1 is up yet (of course, it's not), but the banner at the top of the Reality TV section says that the entire season of season 13 is free right now. So, if anyone wants to own season 13 who doesn't already, this is your chance!

I’m with you and I’ll take it up a notch and say I thought the tears over her brother were contrived too. I’m sure she is sad about it, but I felt Like it was acted for the camera. I lost a sister very young, and while it’s sad in that I wish we could have grown up and been friends, I barely remember her at all, so it isn’t like I sit and cry “missing” her.

Hi y'all!! The first episode has aired, and it feels like Christmas!!! Anywho, I thought it was interesting that the first episode was named "First Impressions", because here are my first impressions:-

Amanda - Loved her look from the moment I saw the first tryout pics, and continued to be impressed. Last night sealed the deal for me! She's incredible!!! 😍😍😍

Kat - LOVE HER!!!! Incredibly beautiful, and talented...loved the come hither look she gave the judges. THAT'S HOW TO GET ATTENTION IN A GOOD WAY!!😍😍😍💃💃💃

Chandi - One word - exotic, and it works in her favor...🙂🙂🙂

Gina - Beautiful, but VERY timid..You're auditioning for the most famous cheerleading squad in the world tou have to have more gumption than that!!😳😖🤔

Julia - Wonderful!! Loved her spirit!!🙂🙂🙂

Victoria - Thank God she's a legacy, because if she wasn't Kelli's best friend's daughter there was NO WAY she was making semifinals with that out of control turn. 😑😑😑

My top 3 were : Kat, Amanda and Julia. I'm rooting hard for these three!!!

I really like Kristen and Meredith (who I know has issues with the style but I just love her as a technical dancer) and I just like Kristen and don’t want her to go either? 

It’s really hard to pick a third...I like all the girls left...i’d Take all but Taylor P and Lisa if it was up to me
