tv echo March 20, 2021 Share March 20, 2021 (edited) The Falcon and the Winter Soldier Featurette 1 -Time (Sam and Bucky) Marvel Entertainment Mar 19, 2021 Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan Sing Their Dream Theme Songs and Roast Tom Holland IMDb Mar 19, 2021 ‘The Falcon and the Winter Soldier’ Director Kari Skogland Breaks Down That Final Scene By Kate Aurthur Mar 19, 2021https://variety.com/2021/tv/news/falcon-and-the-winter-soldier-kari-skogland-final-scene-spoilers-1234934708/ Quote Skogland talked about that scene, and said it was especially important how the government official introduced the new Captain America, using nationalistic language: “We need heroes who are relatable; we need heroes who are from this planet,” Skogland paraphrased. The Defense Department spokesman says: “While we love heroes who put their lives on the line to defend Earth, we also need a hero to defend this country,” he says. Extolling the decision to replace Steve, he continues: “We need a real person who embodies America’s greatest values. We need someone to inspire us again.” “They had gone in, and obviously done exactly what Sam was hoping that they wouldn’t,” Skogland told Variety. “The shield belongs to Steve. It belongs to that time.” Obviously, the government’s decision — which Sam feels is wrong and rash, as you can see from the anguish in Mackie’s face — will cause him to rethink that opinion. “What does it represent? What is its relevance?” Skogland asked. * * *“We were always telling a racially charged exploration of what it was for a Black man to pick up the shield,” she said. As far as shooting the scene in which Walker is introduced, he appears on the steps to enthusiastic applause, wielding the shield and waving to the crowd. He looks down at the camera, and the final shot is him winking. “I wanted to hero-ise,” Skogland said about how we can’t really make out Russell’s face behind the mask. “Lots of low angles and and sneaky imagery, so that you just about get him — you don’t quite get him.” “You’re trying to find out, Who is this guy?” she added * * * The new (interloper?) Captain America will bring the title characters together, it seems. “Sam and Bucky will have a really interesting interaction as they go through their adventure about just that — what the shield means to each one of them for different reasons,” Skogland said. Emily VanCamp Dishes on What MCU Fans Can Expect From 'The Falcon and the Winter Solider' BY KAYLA KEEGAN Mar 19, 2021https://www.goodhousekeeping.com/life/entertainment/amp35746395/emily-vancamp-falcon-and-the-winter-soldier-spoilers/ Quote As for Sharon, her own character, fans may be surprised to see a new version of her emerge. After the agent faded to dust following Thanos (Josh Brolin)'s snap in Avengers: Infinity War, Sharon is coming into this series as a different person — someone who isn't quite as idealistic as she once was. * * * "When we see her now, she's a little rough around the edges. She's been on the run, she's had to take care of herself, she mentions that in Civil War that she has to disappear for a little while, and I think here we get a little sense of what she's been up to and how she's had to fend for herself and make her own way in this new world," Emily reveals. "It's a very, very different Sharon ... You can imagine that there's a little bitterness there." She continues to clarify that her "bitterness" is derived from surviving in a challenging world after disappearing, not so much from her lack of closure with Steve Rogers (Chris Evans), who decides to travel back to 1949 to be with Sharon's great aunt Peggy at the end of Avengers: Endgame. According to Emily, that lack of closure is "never addressed," though it could possibly feed into Sharon's outlook in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. "Would I say there's a ton of closure for Sharon? No, not really," she declares. "But then again, does anyone ever get closure in these movies and TV shows?" Falcon and the Winter Soldier Debuts With Impressive Rotten Tomatoes Score By JAMIE JIRAK - March 19, 2021https://comicbook.com/marvel/news/falcon-and-the-winter-soldier-debuts-impressive-rotten-tomatoes-score/ Quote The Falcon and the Winter Soldier finally premiered on Disney+ today and fans are eager to see where the show goes from here. The premiere has been met with positive reviews so far. In fact, ComicBook.com's own Charlie Ridgely gave the first episode a 4 out of 5 and called it "a promising new direction" for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The series is up on Rotten Tomatoes with an impressive critics score. Currently, the show has a 93% after 106 reviews. The show's audience score is slightly lower, however, coming in at 79% after 383 reviews. Edited March 20, 2021 by tv echo 2 Link to comment

Cobalt Stargazer March 21, 2021 Share March 21, 2021 I don't know about this show specifically, but according to an EW article from 2019 ratings for streaming services are tracked by 'accounts watched' and 'unique views'. A pool of Nielsen families is used to collect data about how many people in the household watched, how long they watched, etc. If it's anything like the situation for WandaVision, where so many people were trying to access the site at once that it crashed for a bit, I'd say they're pretty good for a premiere. 1 Link to comment

But it honestly doesn't bother me that much. Mega-corporations are a reality of the modern world (and of most dystopian fiction) and we all have to get used to it, unless it can somehow be changed. As long as Disney never buy DC and combine their comic book properties. That would be an appalling idea. 2 Link to comment

Falcon and the Winter Soldier director Kari Skogland on "pushing the envelope" at Marvel BY DAVID OPIE MARCH 21, 2021https://www.digitalspy.com/tv/ustv/a35842403/falcon-winter-soldier-easter-eggs-deleted-scenes-kari-skogland/ Quote Of course, it's inevitable that some scenes will always end up on the cutting-room floor, no matter how much you might want to keep them in. "There were plenty that I would have loved to have had, or different ways to take a scene. That’s just the nature of the creative process." But what did get cut, exactly? Is there a lost version of the premiere that fans need to see? Thankfully, it doesn't sound like we'll be campaigning Marvel to #ReleaseTheSkoglandCut anytime soon. "What I can say is that there’s nothing on the floor that felt like it was a game-changer. So there’s nothing that I go, 'Oh!', lamenting. Truthfully, everything that is great, is in there," Kari promises. And that includes a number of improvised scenes which strayed from the original script. "We did a fair bit of ad lib – because we were finding characters a little bit. When you’re exploring character, you kind of want to let everybody out of the box, and go, 'Let’s try this, and let’s go down this lane, and shake it up' or 'let’s say nothing'." * * *When asked for specifics, Kari reveals that certain moments on the dock were improvised — "there's a bit of back and forth there" — and Bucky's therapy scene also included a surprising amount of ad lib too. "Sebastian’s lovely at throwing in some lines here and there." But improvised or not, Kari says, "Almost every scene has something in it that came from the heart and soul." Even the Easter eggs are included "organically", ensuring that story and character always come first. "You never create a scene around the Easter egg," says Kari. "The Easter egg is always just, 'Oh, there’s an opportunity for something that the fans will enjoy if they can spot it'. It’s fun, because it doesn’t drive anything. It’s quite the opposite." And as Spellman points out, he’s never had any kind of life despite being “alive” for more than century. “The other thing we want to explore with Bucky is the fact that he’s 106, and the fact that he’s never been present mentally in one era long enough to even be identified,” Spellman said. “He’s completely at sea with the times no matter when it exists.” The Falcon and the Winter Soldier’ Creators How the Show Will Focus on ‘Identity’ Entertainment Tonight Mar 20, 2021 Edited March 26, 2021 by tv echo 2 Link to comment

The Mandalorian wasn't hyped nearly as much before its premiere (at least not that I noticed), and it may have been the first big show for Disney+? I bet there are a ton of people like me - I'm not a Star Wars fan, I knew nothing about the show nor had Disney+ at the time of its premiere... but then I saw the phenomenon that is Baby Yoda on social media, and within a few weeks I subscribed and binge watched the first several episodes. And so, there's no way he could just in good faith take on that symbol, because it means something very different in his hands than it does Steve Rogers." -- Malcolm Spellman: "For the Bucky character, it was so obvious what we were going to have to tackle. That was almost a treat because this dude has not been in his right mind for almost a hundred years, being he's 106 years old, which means he does not fit into this era and never even had an opportunity to fit into any other era, 'cause he was being manipulated. But obviously first and foremost, the volume of people he's killed, including, you know, people in Stark's family. And we have this line in the series where - I can't remember if it's in the first episode, but somewhere in the series he says, when someone's trying to make an excuse, "Well, you were being manipulated, you had no way of knowing," he said, "No, I remember every one." Which means, he believes, a part of him was there and present. And if that's the case, isn't he the monster that HYDRA made him out to be? So, yeah, he's got a lot to deal with and, as you see, we brought it into his face in a very, very personal and direct way." -- AVC's Marah Eakin: "Beyond just Falcon and Winter Soldier, you also got to use some characters from the previous Marvel table-setting for you, like Sharon Carter and Zemo and a few, you know, a few unnamed others. Who were you sort of most excited, as a writer, to like have back and sort of figure out?"Malcolm Spellman: "I'll tell you who surprised me the most, which was Zemo, in that how human he became in this series. But the character that turned into the most fun was Sharon Carter, because Emily [Van Camp] has such a baby face, you know what I'm saying? And looks very, very sweet and innocent. But Sharon Carter is going to emerge as a badass, like, I’d have to use far more inappropriate language to describe how awesome she is. You know what I'm saying? Let’s just say this: Sharon Carter is all grown up now... I guess what made it so fun was, we started in Civil War, and you just factor in what would have naturally happened between Civil War and now, and now you got a whole different Sharon Carter showing up." -- AVC's Marah Eakin: "In some ways, the Avengers are 'law enforcement,' like, they are enforcing laws. In other ways, they’re sort of like the best version of law enforcement. And what we're seeing in the show, in part, is like sort of when many hands get involved, the [unintelligible word-shit?] gets mucked up. How do you sort of view the line of like where superheroes are in terms of being the protectors of what’s right and what’s wrong?"Malcolm Spellman: "It's funny. I mean, the Zemo character is going to lend a lot of voice to that. And you can see what he thinks of it. And obviously, all of us are sort of channeled through him a little bit, in that Zemo sees all of them as supremacists. And he thinks that people who are endowed with abilities that are extraordinary, like law enforcement or, in this case, heroes, right, are inherently going to abuse their power. And he has damn good reason to think that. You know what I'm saying? They destroyed his country by using his city as a bomb and killed his entire family, along with everyone, you know, he knew. So Zemo sees himself as a hero in this series, and we wanted him to be able to speak to his motivation in a way that even the audience and sometimes the heroes themselves have to nod their head and be like, 'He's right.'" -- Kari Skogland: "Yeah, looking at consequences... He [Bucky] left behind him a trail of victims... There's collateral damage. So what does that look like? And what does that feel like for a guy who has to cope with, you know, what it is to go forward? Because he's going to have to do some healing in order to be able to find some relevance for his future, um, and where he sits as a result of his past." Cobalt Stargazer March 26, 2021 Share March 26, 2021 7 minutes ago, Spartan Girl said: Zemo used this justification to do... the exact same thing he accused the Avengers of doing: killing innocent people in collateral damage. But the Avengers were at least trying to save people while Zemo did it for revenge. They can “humanize” him all they want, he’s still a piece of shit. Don’t try to redeem him unless he dies in the process show. Just don’t. Except this goes directly to Steve's willingness to throw his much-vaunted principles into the garbage to save Bucky, and also to Bucky's tremendous guilt for all the things he did as the Winter Solider. In the end, it wasn't about the Accords or whether or not the Avengers sometimes did more harm than good, particularly since Tony was usually directly involved in whatever went wrong. It was about Steve not caring who got killed as long as Bucky was safe, and I think that just adds to his burden now, that he still doesn't think he's worth all this. You're right about Zemo, but I will give the little bastard that his end run around the Avengers instead of going directly at them was shittily brilliant. 1 Link to comment

More about that audition to play Steve Rogers... Wyatt Russell's Captain America Audition Didn't Go So Well theoffcamerashow Mar 24, 2021 I am probably being overcautious in using spoiler tags below... The Falcon and the Winter Soldier's Wyatt Russell on how his Captain America differs from Steve Rogers By Nick Romano March 26, 2021https://ew.com/tv/the-falcon-and-the-winter-soldier-wyatt-russell-how-john-walker-captain-america-differs-from-steve-rogers/ Quote "What I thought was interesting about John is that Steve was a soldier from a different era. They're both soldiers from different eras, and the era of John is very different than the era of Steve," Russell explains to EW. "The type of military men who are going to Iraq and Afghanistan was different because the time was different, and the grey area now, you see everything. Everything's filmed. There's a much different way of fighting now. You go in guns blazing first and ask questions later." * * *While Steve's internal compass was directed by moral and ethical obligations — "fighting for something more than just getting the job done," as Russell puts it — John is more of a company man with the company being the United States military. "John's the type of guy who's like, 'Look, you want me to do the job? I will finish the job for you,'" Russell says. "Sometimes that might require things in the grey areas where you are not comfortable but I am, and I need to be able to do my job." Spoiler That dichotomy between the legacy of Steve's Cap and John stepping into this role results in an internal struggle for the newly minted hero. It's a question of identity, which trickles down to all the characters, including Anthony Mackie's Sam Wilson and Sebastian Stan's Bucky Barnes. There are questions of, "Who am I in this suit?" Russell elaborates. "What does it mean to me? What does it mean to the people watching?" "Everybody has this idea of imposter syndrome to a degree, like even Sam at the beginning," he adds. "[Sam] didn't necessarily feel comfortable with being Captain America. He didn't feel right. Everybody deals with those things differently. So, it's a big difference between this guy [John] and Steve. He's a little bit more of a [jump in] head first type guy." In terms of how John fits into the rest of the story, Russell calls him "a wrench that gets thrown into the whole deal." Sam, he remarks, is on a "hero's journey" and getting to the point where he's "a fully realized person." "I'm an obstacle in that," he says. * * * Russell didn't watch any of the past Marvel movies until he landed the role, either. When he finally did, he realized why Evans was so good as Captain America. "It's next to an impossible job as far as I'm concerned," Russell says. "You're trying to be a character who's perfect. Then playing against that, of trying to be a character who's perfect but feels like he's not at all, he did an unreal job of towing that line." Edited March 27, 2021 by tv echo 3 Link to comment
tv echo March 28, 2021 Share March 28, 2021 (edited) Friends | Marvel Studios' The Falcon and The Winter Soldier | Disney+ Marvel Entertainment Mar 27, 2021 Rovazzi intervista Sebastian Stan e Anthony Mackie (Falcon and the winter soldier spot) Jungle Studios Mar 26, 2021 The Falcon and The Winter Soldier reveals song from upcoming soundtrack By Amelia Emberwing March 26, 2021https://www.gamesradar.com/the-falcon-and-the-winter-soldier-reveals-song-from-upcoming-soundtrack/ Quote Louisiana Hero, which plays over the end credits of each episode of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, is produced by Marvel Music and Hollywood Records. The song is scored by Henry Jackman — the very same Jackman who scored Sam Wilson's song in Captain America: The Winter Soldier (Sam's first appearance in the MCU). "Louisiana Hero" gives Sam's melody a little bit of Southern flare that we don't hear in the score of Captain America: Winter Soldier. Don't worry — there's no "twang" here, but the country vibe shines through unmistakably on the electric guitars. Edited March 28, 2021 by tv echo 2 Link to comment

Spartan Girl March 31, 2021 Share March 31, 2021 I do love how Anthony and Sebastian compliment Emily about how good a character Sharon is and how good she was in the very little they gave her to do in the movies in all the cast interviews so far. Especially after all the trolling she got from the Stucky stans on social media. If only the rest of the MCU cast had stood up for her and Brie when they were getting trolled the same way they stood up for, oh say, Chris Pratt. 7 Link to comment

People need to get a grip. People are dumb. Sometimes it's because they don't like a character and can't disassociate the character from the actor, and sometimes it's because an actor says something that upsets them so they insist that they now hate that character, and that her movie will be terrible and will bomb and Marvel will look foolish for hiring her. Naming no names, of course. Wyatt Russell seems like a charming enough guy - as you'd expect, given who his parents are - and I wouldn't mind John Walker staying around either as a villain or as a B-list hero who takes his own identity after realising he can't be Captain America. 6 Link to comment
