That's because you haven't repeatedly seen Bitsy in her full-throated rabid chipmunk voice.  Ear-splitting!!!

Actually I have.   I’ve been watching The View since the very beginning.  IMO no one has ever come close to being as annoying as Meghan, especially her voice!

Lupita is gorgeous and the backlash against her is unwarranted. People need perspective and not be so quick to react and overreact online.  You could tell it bothered Lupita because her accent was coming out as she was explaining why she chose to give her character Red that particular disorder.

Well Jenny was blond.

But that tells you what Barbara and the suits thought.  That anyone could fill that role.  Didn't matter if the person was really a conservative or not.

When they brought on Jenny McCarthy, they were purposefully steering away from politics. She was brought on as the young(er) one, not the conservative one.

Rosie is not denying she said those things, here's her response via Twitter.

I get annoyed with Rosie, because she really does dig her own hole with these kinds of comments. That said, this time, I feel bad for her. If I said I had a crush (or a "girl crush") on a woman, because I'm a straight woman myself, no one (except adolescent boys) would take it as a romantic or sexual thing. When I read the book quote, it was pretty clear to me that Rosie meant that kind of crush, but because she's gay, homophobes are going to homophobe about it.

Remember her "crush" on Tom Cruise? It dominated her chitchat on her morning talk show (before she officially came out, but I never thought she was all that in the closet to begin with). Rosie has never made a secret of her crushes,  but she never made them seem particularly sexual, either. I'm pretty sure on the R'OD show, her frequent comment was that she loved Tom Cruise, but not in *that* way, and she wanted him to mow her lawn.

Also, so what if she had had a romantic crush on Elisabeth.  Sunny has a crush on Idris Elba. If Chris Hemsworth showed up at my door in his Thor costume, I'm pretty sure I'd turn into a babbling idiot.

But Bitsy tried to make this into some kind of #metoo episode, and implied that it freaked her out, and she focussed on the grooming thing.

On 3/26/2019 at 6:33 PM, merriebreeze said:

So Bitsy twisted Rosie's "mentoring" into "grooming". How convenient and infinitely more salacious. I can imagine RO trying to convince Bitsy that she would be much better off if she spoke her own words instead of just regurgitating the talking points Geddie fed her before the show. That's mentoring, not grooming.

Bitsy's use of the word "grooming" on The View really pissed me off. While Rosie's "softball" joke didn't land as she probably planned, she was crystal clear in her comments about trying to help Bitsy professionally (like teaching her how to lighten up on TV). That was mean-spirited and disingenuous of Elisabeth.

Good lord, Biden being obtuse about Anita Hill was nearly 30 yrs ago. No one had heard of sexual harassment before those hearings. Ana is so right about Dems apologizing for insignificant things. And Meghan is right (gack) about people changing in 30 yrs when they know better.

I'd heard of it.  I was in my early 20s and that entire hearing enraged me, more at the Republicans than the Democrats,  but I do remember being angry at Biden.

That said, I have been over it,  forever.  What we saw there was male privilege in action. Those senators weren't going to let "some woman" take down an accomplished man, with what to them (because of their privilege) was nonsense. Over the years,  Biden has shown himself to be an advocate for all kinds of minorities, and for women. I agree with Ana and Meghan. Because I so agreed with Meghan on this point, I couldn't even post about it the day it happened.  It made me question myself. Then I remembered a broken clock is still right twice a day.

  •

They're not.  But "all (female) softball players are lesbians" is a pretty common stereotype/trope, and has been the fodder of jokes for ages.

I really think Rosie was just trying to be funny, but it doesn't come across in print, because we can't hear her delivery.

She also shared a story about how she made a pop culture reference during a topic and got kicked under the table or something and was questioned by Barbara afterward about what she was talking about. I haven't been a steady viewer of the show so I can't attest to the content throughout the years, but it does seem like today's content mixes in pop culture with politics more than the days of Jenny and Sherri. The political content is more divisive today but in quantity, it seems less than the days of Barbara. Given her reputation of being a very proud person, I can see why she wouldn't want to attach her name to a show that wasn't anything but serious content because she is a serious journalist.

I agree.  I was in an office a while back where a gay man mentioned he had a "girl crush"  on Rachel Maddow.  I replied "who doesn't?"  and everyone , male/female, gay/straight/bi agreed that they also had a "girl crush"  on her.  It was a light-hearted, funny thing, talking about admiring someone and wishing they were in your life.

To me it's so not a big deal.

I agree that Rosie being open about her sexuality is why so many people took her comments in a sexualized way. What I also thought was disturbing was relating it to objectifying a woman in the workplace which takes the sexualizing even further. Elisabeth didn't seem to be aware of this crush until Rosie recently admitted it and so there doesn't seem to be any actual experiences where Rosie's 'crush' felt like harassment or objectifying to Elisabeth. It's unfair to put that on her now because you're anti-LGBTQ stance is being threatened by this notion that you may have reciprocated a crush with another woman.

My best friend and I have dinner once a month.  We always say separate checks. On our birthdays the other pays for both dinners.  However she pays for her drinks on her birthday because I don't drink.

I used to have a platonic male friend and we would take turns picking up the check.

Splitting the check evenly according to the amount can lead to arguing and hard feelings.  Reminds me of the Friends episode where they tried that and Phoebe, Joey and Rachel ordered next to nothing and was expected to pay the same amount as Ross Monica and Chandler.

I've been preoccupied this week, so a few round-up comments on the shows:

  • I thought Meghan looked the best she ever has on Wednesday. The solid color dress, the long hair, the soft makeup: nailed it.
  • I had never heard Stacey Abrams speak before. Wow, she's good. I would vote for her for any office she ran for. Intelligent, unflappable, informed. Please, can we have more of her, and more like her?
  • Elisabeth needs to lighten the fuck up. Crushes are silly; crushes are fun. I have a million crushes and I take them as seriously as I take what I had for breakfast this morning. For her to distort it into "lesbian grooming" shows her hatefulness and judgment of someone who is a much better person than she is, whether or not she carries a Bible. Elisabeth was always about empty, emphatic gestures, trying to demonstrate what a good and righteous person she is, rather than actually doing something that makes the world a better place.

Nailed it on all three points. 😃

I went out to dinner with friends and had a glass of wine so thought I could watch Bitsy. She got half dozen Gods blessed etc out and I decided to fast forward. Crap how many segments and WHY?? They wouldn’t give the Pope that many segments. I didn’t even get a “enjoy the view “ on my DVR. Shes not even having a conversation just letting us know how God guides her.

Next day Megan’s yelling at the audience did me in

I’ve noticed Abby lectures too.

Megan’s  whole face was beet red while speaking to Kennedy. Good I hope she’s uncomfortable.

One more thing Joy and I have in common, not tolerating alcohol any longer. Aging sucks.

Liked Sam Elliot too but had long time crush on Jeremy Irons till he said some stupid thing ( regarding same sex marriage) that he could marry his son.   Followed by he doesn’t read books.

I thought Tamar wasn't on the Real anymore.  I havent seen it so don't know but seemed to recall something about a firing.  Agree with your assessment though.  She won BB, and just finished another reality show.

Can I say a thing about Joy and the check?

In my experience, the guys I know are usually more ready to split a check evenly (like if there are 3 couples out to dinner, each couple pays a third), where the women I know are more likely to want to pay for what they each had. It's not hard and fast, but among the people I know, that's how it trends.

I don't usually drink. I also prefer to split the check evenly (like the guys I know). It's just easier and less petty. That said, when there's someone at the table who only had something like soup, whereas I had a bigger meal, and a third person might have had what I had, plus a glass of wine, I'll grab the check and propose a modified split, where the friend who had a meal and wine, and I, will each pay the same, and it's more than soup-person pays.

If no one's hurting for cash, I always wish the other non-drinkers would just shut up and split the check evenly and be done with it. I never deeply care either way, as long as nobody's trying to screw the server on the tip.

So part of me was a little disappointed that Joy was so petty about the lunch tab, until I realized these lushes (Sunny & Ana, if you didn't watch today) are having quite few drinks, not just one or two.

If you're one of the drinkers at a table, and you're having three or more drinks with the meal, you should be the one to say, "Hey,  it's not fair to split this, since Joy didn't drink." Ana and Sunny shouldn't have put Joy in that position in the first place.

I know what a medium-priced glass of wine costs in my suburban area, which is hours away from New York. I can only imagine the price of a decent glass of wine in a Manhattan restaurant.

I watched The View many years ago when idiot Bitsy was a legend in her own mind.  I just happened upon the Bitsy encore after streaming the episode with Stacy Abrams.   Wow, what a contrast, but I digress.

I came here to say that it’s good to see some things never change albeit in the worst kind of ways.  The very best thing I can say about little Bitsy is once an insensitive idiot, always an insensitive idiot.    Bitsy's lecture about Rosie’s “girl-crush” was completely cruel, while attempting to make La Bits a victim. Is that gaslighting?  I've never really been sure, but Bitsy is no victim.  She’s a passive aggressive bully, picking on the fat, lesbian girl.   I don’t know the point she was trying to make exactly except to stir-up something for her own gain and publicity.  But to suggest that Rosie wanted anything more than to be a mentor to her was utter BS.

Worse, I don’t really understand Whoopi and Joy fawning all over La Bits?  Allies, friends, colleagues or none-of-the-above, I definitely do NOT understand why ANY OF THEM would let her get away with making Rosie’s “crush” any more than admiration—and I’m not even a fan of Rosie’s.    Not one of them stood up for Rosie while La Bits was trying to make something out of absolutely nothing, hoping to elevate her importance or perhaps sell her vapid books?   I can only hope little Bitsy hired a ghost writer.   Then again, I have no interest in reading anything she has to say, so why should I care?

Perhaps rather than taking below-the-belt jabs at former colleagues who aren’t there to defend themselves, little Bitsy could work other facets of her own mediocrity.  I see, little Bits is still struggling with vocabulary.  Did I hear her say “accelerating” rather than “excelling” when talking about her kids’ accomplishments?  And what does “Stand by your insinuations” mean anyway?  Inquiring minds want to know.  I've always thought "opinions" would have been a better word choice in that situation.  Then again, I don't  live in Bitsy-land.  Praise Jesus!

Yes, she's really not too bright.  She could have shared that info without being so specific.  Not that it was so riveting to begin with, but if it were me I would have made a point of changing the details - specifically so my friends wouldn't know I was referring to them.  She should have been more vague:  "Yes, there are people we no longer go to restaurants with because they order expensive food and a lot of drinks".   The details re it being brunch and lobster (and avoiding them now) were completely unnecessary, and way too specific.

I hope these friends either don't watch The View, have a sense of humor, or aren't friends Abby & her husband would mind losing.
