If they want to keep up this scripted type show, they should focus on one dramatic event and turn it into a half hour sitcom. Like Whitney finds the album, what will happen? Heather is coming over , Can buddy hide? Will anyone show up for the dance class. Last night they covered like 6 storylines back and forth and made  already unrealistic stories less believable. Whitney finds the album, almost hits the producer because she is so upset, yet the next scene is her complaining about the dance class? They can;t even finish the wedding album story and then move on to the only 3 people showing up for the class.

That's exactly what I was thinking, and it seemed very odd to basically race through one thing after the other, whereas on previous seasons, they would have expanded upon just a few events, and they'd go in-depth (although sometimes to a nauseating extent).

Yes, she has responded on multiple occasions to questions on SM about what her job is by saying her job is to make a television show. Then she often goes on to explain how difficult that is, and how hard on her, as if to suggest she works so much harder than the questioner can ever understand. There was one instance where she told someone, on her Facebook page I believe, that she really wished she had a 9-to-5 job, because it would make fitting in her workouts so much easier than dealing with her erratic schedule and travel demands.

This is the most inane, and insane, thing for her to say.  She could actually fit in workouts easier than anyone in a 9-5 job, because she could just decide that she wants a plot line to revolve around workouts, and presto magic-o, she can go to as many workouts as she wants.

OK, in fairness to Whitney, her job is probably the television show, she films what, two seasons a year and I'm sure they take a few months each to fully produce, there are not that many jobs that will allow you to take that kind of time off and I suspect Whit is making in the very low six figures, high 5 for the show which is a reasonable salary for someone her age, especially with her limitations and capabilities.

THAT SAID, WTF does she do all day? I was unemployed for around 3 months after being laid off and I literarily did somewhere around hundreds of hours of volunteer work in that time period just so I wouldn't go nuts sitting around the house.

Yes!  I want the bathroom warm.  I close the door and the shower curtain, because it's there to keep the water in the tub.

MBFFL only filmed 2 seasons in one year, S-1 & S-2. And the eps in each were only a 1/2 hour long.

Now MBFFL is filmed beginning in Apr & running to or thru Oct. Twit claims a lot of her off-season is devoted to TLC-promoted events & such. And she has her cruise, a week in either Nov or Dec. Busy life. So much harder than us current or retired nine-to-fivers.

Some guesses:

He was attractive to her and she liked his personality (maybe because my people are Southern but I see why she’d like his personality).

As a divorced woman with young kids she’s finding few men who’d be interested so The One Who Got Away takes on more importance.

Her man hunting skills are weak (see cringe-worthy grocery store scene) and she’d prefer a known quantity (Buddy) over a crapshoot.

All that said, I don’t get why she doesn’t just put her kids first until they’re 18. I’d have thought she would want to avoid subjecting them to more drama.

This is a wild guess on my part, but based on being a listener to the show that Heather's ex is on (and Whitney was part of), and the timing, I believe Heather left her ex for Buddy. So having been left by the person you ruined your family (marriage) to be with has to really sting.

ETA: Heather's ex has remarried, which probably adds to the sting.

I agree. If he has a substance abuse problem I still say it isn't cocaine.   He couldn't afford the amount he would need to make it a problem.

It is probably crack or meth, which would be in his price range.

Which was he talking about when he went on about tossing some bags, right before a cop came?  He said he'd have been charged with possession with intent to sell for having that much, but it was really all for himself.

Who is Heather's ex?  I'm assuming this is the radio show that Whitney interned at.

He is the 'star' of the morning show (Jared and Katie in the morning) on the radio station where Whitney was a producer. Whitney still does voiceovers for ads on the station.

I missed what the late night call from Buddy was really about. I gather it was TV 'click bait' to get people to watch.

My great aunt was gay. She had a partner that we also referred to as our aunt. They were a big part of the family and I never thought of them as anything other than my aunts. I swear on all that's holy, I was going to college before I realized that they were gay. They both had good government jobs and their own house ( a big deal for black women back in the day), so I always wondered why they only had 1 bed and couldn't afford two.  They were together for almost 50 years, until my bio aunt got Alzheimer's and eventually passed away. My other aunt lived to 101. I hope I have her genes. : )

Omg.  EXACT same.  For a second I thought we might have the same aunts except both of mine are still with us!!!!  :)

This "wild guess" is absolutely untrue. Tho Heather is divorced, it wasn't over Buddy. She never even met him until she was divorced & Twit introduced them.

Indeed.  Now My 600 Lb Life usually needs to be 2 hours, and (don't judge me) I'd love to see Dr. Pimple Popper that long, but I was ready to get out of the car, long before Buddy had finished his farewell tour to places he used to snort or drink.

While I believe  filming days are probably long and hard, I do not think there are too many full filming days. I have seen TLC film as well as other reality TV. There are endless retakes and long hours. The other fact is they try and film the least number of days. I know the sister wives almost the entire season was filmed in two about 10 day filming sessions. Whitney has a set schedule of filming, a few days of talking heads after filming is done and then I bet there is an on call producer to come film if something big happens (like her mom's stroke) and then it is a producer and cameraman coming in for a day or two to get footage and leave. As for filming the one trip per season Whitney I'm sure gets a say like other TLC shows. A few ideas are thrown out by TLC and Whitney and a trip is agreed upon. Between the one trip, the talking head filming days and the actual full filming days I find it hard to believe if it is over 30 days a year and in exchange Whitney gets enough money to live a middle class life all year without working. and gets her message out. I would say it is a great deal.

The clinic doctor she saw back in, I believe it was, Season 3 already informed her that she has eggs, they just have nowhere to go unless she loses weight. I don't think it's been addressed on-air, but IIRC in either her book or one of her "talks" she described being at the doctor's office in College and having a nurse or physician's assistant say that her complaints sound like PCOS.  Even in Whitney's re-telling, it's pretty obvious this was just loose conjecture/speculation and nothing like a real diagnosis.  To say nothing of the fact that her complaints were just as consistent with her lifestyle at the time (intensive dance/gymnastics and bulimia).  We've never heard Whitney say anything about any sort of diagnostic testing or treatment.  She just chose to take that throw-away comment by a nurse or PA and use it as an excuse for her entire life.

According to Wikipedia, the eggs requires sperm.

I didn’t realize that her diagnosis was so... unofficial. It does seem like she has a lot of the symptoms of PCOS (from the little I know of it)... and was that clinic visit the one where they showed her the cysts? Does having cysts lend credence to her shady diagnosis? My main knowledge of Twit outside of the show is this lovely board of snark. Do many people here think she really might not have PCOS (genuine question since I’m clearly in the dark)?

If she isn’t actually getting proper testing and treatment... I have even less sympathy for her than I did before (and I really didn’t have much sympathy for her before). I personally have an autoimmune disease that can make some things really difficult, but I see specialists, read/research constantly about my condition, and have worked hard from a diet and lifestyle perspective to help myself heal. I still struggle with many symptoms of my illness, which is way frustrating, but I’m always trying to understand it better and do  whatever I can to feel better. The fact that Twit might be walking around with an illness and she hasn’t been properly tested and she does nothing to combat it pisses me off. So many of us with chronic illness work really hard to feel better- Twit just seems to delight in making herself a victim. If she does have PCOS, there are so many things that she could be doing to make herself feel better.

I found out when I was 21 that my father had been married before. My younger siblings found out randomly because they ran into my Dad’s ex-SIL and my parents had to explain who she was. I was studying abroad at the time so they waited until I got home to tell me.

They sat me down and were very serious about it. I thought they were about to tell me something truly horrific. They were speaking about it so seriously that I assumed maybe they were about to drop a bombshell re: a half-sibling or something. When I asked about siblings, my parents vehemently said no and said they would have told me about it if there were siblings. I remember looking at them at this point and saying: “so... why is this a big deal then?” I truly didn’t get all the drama and secrecy, but it turns out my Dad was worried my siblings and I would feel let down by him and think less of him. For the record: none of us gave a damn. And we were 21, 18, and 15. But Whitney (age 34) is acting like the world is crumbling because her Mom was previously married and her Dad was previously engaged (gasp!).

I understood why my Dad kept it a secret, though I wish he didn’t feel like he had to. But it didn’t affect me then and it doesn’t affect me now. Which is why I don’t think Babs and Glen did anything wrong. There’s a million reasons (including: it’s none of your damn business) why they didn’t discuss the first marriage. And I’m sure their reasons are valid (especially since we saw how Twit behaved once she did find out).

They were at the event but they did their own parallel event in a roped off corner and apparently there was this huge fight between two of the stars with finger pointing and yelling and anger. Well, it took several takes to get right so you would see them in a fight that looked moments away from getting physical, then they would cut and the two people that were in this ~huge fight~ would be smiling and laughing and talking to each other like they were having brunch, OK, time for the next take "YOU KILLED MY PUPPY, I'M NEVER SPEAKING TO YOU AGAIN YOU DIRTY WHORE!" cut, lol, omg, how many more times do we have to do this, oh, gurl, have I told you that you outfit is totes cute, OK, retake. So many of us with chronic illness work really hard to feel better- Twit just seems to delight in making herself a victim. If she does have PCOS, there are so many things that she could be doing to make herself feel better.

She is a professional victim, whether it's the PCOS that "caused" her enormous weight gain or her eating disorder. In fact, her issues seem to come full circle in making it easier for her to not worry about losing weight. She has PCOS which makes weight loss harder. She had an eating disorder which makes dieting "dangerous" for her (but I do giver her kudos for losing some weight, as was evidenced on the scale).

I also had PCOS and an eating disorder (anorexia nervosa) and pretty severe anorexia at that. The PCOS was bad enough that one of my ovaries was removed (the other one gave up due to years of starvation). In my later years, my metabolism has slowed. A lot. In order to avoid inevitable weight gain, I run more and eat less--far less than many people (and plant based). Yeah, the anorexia is hiding in there but I'd rather risk that than wind up over-weight. Is it hard? I suppose, but I'm used to it. Whitney, on the other hand, goes with the "it's not fair" and "I had an eating disorder" excuses.

So when I say I have little sympathy for Whitney, it's coming from a place she alleges to also be coming from.

I loved how they zoomed in on the salad Tal and Whit were having for dinner. I know it was greatly commented on here how we never see her eat. Whit are you there? Sorry Hun but if all you ate was salad and fruit you would not be over 300 pounds and yes I have thin friends who share your medical condition.

Yeah, I know I've complained several times that we never see what Whitney eats *on a regular basis*.  That dinner included baked/poached chicken breast with cooked vegetables, salad, and then what looked like yogurt with berries for dessert.  Number 1:  I agree that if that is how she is eating at every meal she would not be fat.  Number 2:  No one, fat or thin, needs dessert for a non-special meal, especially if one is snacking on fruit (two pieces at a time) between meals.  Number 3:  I don't believe for one instant that that meal wasn't in response to viewers' complaints, nor do I believe that's the kind of meal she's eating every single day.

I was trying to find some documentation for a diagnosis of PCOS and came across this tidbit from Redbook Magazine (bolding mine):

"I had always felt like I was fat, and suddenly I was," says Thore. "Before college, I was a dancer and a soccer player, but [after the weight gain], I quit exercising because of what society tells us about how we're supposed to behave. All of that, coupled with PCOS, made it really hard to take any weight off."

https://www.redbookmag.com/body/pregnancy-fertility/news/a39661/tlc-star-whitney-thore-gets-real-about-pcos-and-weight-gain/

So it's not her fault she doesn't exercise.  It's that darned societal pressure.

@Ketzel, can you pull out that memoir of Twit's & tell us what she sez about her PCOS diagnosis there?

Not intending to defend Whitney here, but I’m wondering if some of the vagueness of the PCOS diagnosis is that there really isn’t a definitive way to diagnose PCOS. There are symptoms and blood tests that can point in that direction but it’s not like you can do an ultrasound or take blood and say ‘yep - PCOS’ or ‘No - not PCOS’.

The problem with Whitney, of course, is that her weight gain coincided with lots of other things going on in her life that could be the cause rather than PCOS. She went to college. No more Babs controlling her food. Her indulgent behavior kicked in (normal for kids to gain some - Whitney as usually went out of control). She stopped dancing like she did in high school. We really have no idea the extent of her involvement in dance during high school and college even except to know she was NEVER going to be professional or even advanced. But I suspect her physical activity declined in college. Again, this can be normal. Even serious athletes often are less physical during college for a myriad of reasons. I also suspect that once the weight gain began, she decided it wasn’t her fault so it continued. She may not have had PCOS to blame it on initially but I’m sure she found something. Again - this is her nature.  She may also have had irregular periods. We know it’s not that she’s never had periods because she can’t keep that lie straight. So she clearly has more regular cycles than she wants to admit or she wouldn’t have to lie about it.

So when it came time to see a gyno and she said ‘Gee I’ve gained so much weight without doing anything bad and my periods are all hosed up... etc” Maybe you have PCOS - BAM - excuse.

Maybe she does. Maybe she doesn’t. Frankly it doesn’t matter. Absolutely none of her issues are because of PCOS.

Continuing my research on whether Whitney has ever actually been diagnosed with PCOS, I came across this article, which states that the symptoms Whitney ascribes to PCOS can also--more commonly, since PCOS is diagnosed in only 18% of women worldwide--result from obesity, including male-pattern hair loss, amenorrhea, and chin whiskers:

Obesity and excess weight are major chronic diseases in Western world countries. Obesity increases hyperandrogenism, hirsutism, infertility and pregnancy complications both independently and by exacerbating PCOS. In general populations, obesity and insulin resistance further increase type 2 diabetes (DM2) and cardiovascular disease (CVD). Likewise, in PCOS obesity worsens insulin resistance and exacerbates reproductive and metabolic features. Furthermore, women with PCOS have increased risk factors for DM2 and CVD, increased impaired glucose tolerance (IGT), DM2 and potentially increased CVD. As obesity rates rise, the public health significance of PCOS will increase. Treatment of obesity through lifestyle intervention is a key treatment strategy in PCOS and improves insulin resistance, reproductive and metabolic features.

This "wild guess" is absolutely untrue. Tho Heather is divorced, it wasn't over Buddy. She never even met him until she was divorced & Twit introduced them.

Not saying you are wrong, but I am curious where you got this info from?

We’ll know Todd reads this forum if he starts wearing double sided tape around Whitney.

There’s no definitive diagnostic test. But there ARE blood tests and Ultrasound results that would point in the direction of PCOS. I must assume that if Whitney has anything like that she’d have talked about it on the show.

And, as others have said PCOS is a chronic syndrome that has to be actively managed. For all of her talk about being a spokesperson, role model, etc. why don’t we hear anything from Whitney advocating for the sorts of management that would help her and her “fans” who suffer from PCOS?

Oh I agree. I think you point out two very good things - first if she had any kind of testing done that pointed to PCOS she would have discussed it and second, since she holds herself up as a champion of overcoming (and I use that term loosely) PCOS she should be talking about managing the condition. She does neither. That said, I don’t think she’s actively lying about having it in the way she flat out lies about other things. I think one of two things happened at some point. Either she has actually been officially diagnosed but she doesn’t talk about the testing or the management plan because first and foremost she would have been told - LOSE WEIGHT!!! I’m sure it would head any discussion of improving the symptoms and managing the condition. She wouldn’t want to hear it so she would just cut that out of her reality. Just like the adoption discussion, she ignores the obvious - not married, no sustainable income, lives with an addict etc and focuses on what helps her - too fat. So she cuts out the main plan and comes away with PCOS = gains weight so let’s eat enough for 10 people every day.

Either that or some medical professional mentioned that her symptoms COULD be PCOS and either suggested testing or maybe even said losing weight would help manage the symptoms and maybe determine a more definitive diagnosis and she just grabbed the PCOS diagnosis.

Either way PCOS to her is an excuse that she doesn’t want to go away so she wouldn’t want to manage it anyway.

To get my comments back on topic: I normally don't mind Todd being snarky and 'extra', but his behavior during the BGDC was completely obnoxious. He was disruptive to the class (basic as it was) and was making the participants uncomfortable. If I were in a class like that, I'd have words with the instructors afterwards (I know this isn't a real class and real teachers, but if I made the effort I expect to get what was offered).

📌 Last year the first 3 eps of MBFFL were 2 hrs long, then reverted to one hr. Pls god, make it true this year..An entire season of 2-hr eps will make us all crazy.
📌 Romaine lettuce at the grocery store. Cutting up fresh veggies in the kitchen. Apples & oranges handy to munch on as a snackie. A dinner of salad & an entrée of reasonably sized portions. What are you up to, Twit? We know there's got to be an ulterior motive to all this healthy eating activity.
📌 One possible answer to the above Q: her nobsactive project currently includes exercise, soon to be joined by activewear clothing. So. she's a trainer. A fashion designer. Why not a nutrtionist, too? I think she's seeing the writing on the wall, realizing her sinecure is near an end & looking for another way to earn an income without having to do much to earn it.
📌 This season is already so boring & over-scripted with absurd plots that it's hard not to think it's in its last gasp. OTOH, that seemed to be true a couple of seasons ago & MBFFL got renewed much to our dismay. So, who knows?
📌 Heather visits. Buddy's in his room, lying on his bed. So Twit quietly tells him to stay in his room while Heather is there & softly closes his bedroom door. No, instead we have this Benny Hill routine of sneaking down the hall, peeking around corners, hiding Buddy in a closet. Jeez. Of the many minutes of scripted absurdity in this ep, this may have been the worst.
📌 Or does that dubious honor go to the extended segment about discovering Babs' first marriage? I don't believe for a minute that Twit knew nothing about it, given how Babs likes to remind Twit of what a sexy vixen she was. And the overacting among the three -- I mean, really. Double Jeez.
📌 Neither of the parents seem very lively any more. I suspect the scriptwriters were desperate to come up with some story that would feature fan favorite, Babs. And this was it.
📌 A couple of seasons ago, I started wondering how time lines fit together, specifically, parents' age, children's ages,  wedding date. I finally concluded that one or both of the parents must be in a second marriage. Damn, I'm good!
📌 In Ep 1, Twit worries about how to "counsel" Heather. Now she's worried about Ashley's "lack of interest in just about everything." (Meaning everything Twit finds interesting.) And she needs to keep an eye on Buddy & if he relapses, she'll never forgive herself. Or, as Glenn believes, Twit'll "watch over [them] like she's so good at doing." That's the dumbest Glenn line since the HI 8K when, as he & another man dragged her over the finish line, he whispered, "You've inspired a lot of people today." And why do any of the barnacles, including Tal who is a certified therapist, see Twit as someone they can confide in? She's a narcissist. She has no ability to empathize with any other person.
📌 Ashley has Twit's number. So does Cousin Todd. I love his comments about her dancing in this episode. "She stays in her one foot by one foot square." "It all looks just the same." "She won't be able to do half the stuff we do [in an advanced dance class]."
📌 That sports bra in the BGDC segment made her look like she stuffed 2 cantaloupes in it.
📌 Well, girlfs, time for me to say "B." Hope I haven't been too neg or emosh.

The thing about being sassy, adorable and fabulous is that if you really are sa&f you don't realize it.  So you probably are.

She gave Buddy an orange.  Then she took *two* oranges for herself.  So even pretending to be eating a healthier diet is apparently beyond her abilities.

That reminds me of the (TLC?) show from years ago about the obesity clinic in Brookhaven, NY.  One of the doctors commented about a patient who ate DOZENS of oranges a day: "Yes, oranges are good for you, but if you eat 40 a day, YOU WILL STILL GAIN WEIGHT."

Duh.

I, too, am confused by this conversation about Twit's PCOS diagnosis. She has never made a speech or written one of those insipid essays without mentioning PCOS. And now we learn she's self-diagnosed?

@Ketzel, can you pull out that memoir of Twit's & tell us what she sez about her PCOS diagnosis there?

Anything for you, Dot. :) But I think I should move this response to the Whitney: So She Thinks She Can Dance thread.

The thinly-veiled suggestion that Ashley is suffering from Post-Partum Depression was DIGUSTING!

Just because she does want to waddle around with you, Whitney, or keep bringing her newborn into your walk-in litter box doesn’t mean she’s depressed.

Cool, thanks. I wouldn't take  her word for gospel though. 😉 if you listen to my ex's story, there was absolutely nothing going on with the woman that moved in with him within a month of him moving out of our home, even though he had pics of her in his wallet before he left and went out of town to see his family but stayed with her at her family's ...He told her that I signed him up for a dating site, when she discovered his profile on one. Heather's story could well be true, but ...

As I watched that, I became absolutely convinced that it's all scripted for Todd to be disruptive and push his Whitney's-teaching-is-too-basic protests.  I just don't think that Whitney would have put up with it otherwise, and she knows the complaints are out there, so this way she can get even more viewers, even if they aren't sympathetic to her.

This!  It was so far beyond asinine, and it was obvious from everyone's poor acting, that they were all in on it.

And just because Heather said she didn't want to know about what Buddy does, doesn't mean that Whitney should keep information from Heather when something about Buddy crosses into Whitney's life, like letting him stay with her.  Heather knows that Whitney is still friends with Buddy, and went to visit him in DC, so there's no reason Heather shouldn't know when it's vice-versa, and Buddy visits Whitney.

All I want to know is why is Witless running around all freaked about “hiding” the fact that Buddy kissed her or was staying with her for a visit. Does she think that Heather or anyone that Heather knows never watch the show?  As soon as it aired, Heather would know if she didn’t already know the storyline. Which she did. I’m sure she read the script. Sooo stupid.
