So, Meggie, if you're going to toss out the word of the day, KNOW what it means ... dumb bitch!! From Quora.com: "A cataclysm means something more Earth-shaking like a devastatingly-(possibly) fatal earthquake (and/or intense flood or explosive cinders/ashes fallout, or lava flow). When a catastrophe occurs, it may be a news story, but maybe not. When a cataclysm occurs, it's always front-page news. There is no such parallel notion here, like a ‘minor cataclysm.’ The giant meteorite that killed all the dinosaurs on Earth so many millions of years ago was a truly cataclysmic event. A catastrophe means something akin to “events have spiraled out of control. The usual order is disrupted.” But not every catastrophe is necessarily tragic. This is why we also have the phrase “a minor catastrophe” which can even be used casually along with the phrase “has been avoided.” A pro hair stylist might say that an amateur’s failed attempt at hair-cutting is a catastrophe (obviously it's intense to them, but no one dies)." 12 Link to comment

His acting, at least from the clip shown, doesn't seem all that great. Plus I hated that he said nothing. It was just veterans this, second amendment, America first, I love my country and the president, and nothing else. And the whole thing about Obama....Obama is a Muslim because his name isn't Barry? I wonder how this guy feels about all of the Arab Christians and Jews with Arabic sounding names? Plus, he said that he's a Jew who is now a Christian, but Obama is a Muslim because once you're Muslim you're always Muslim...that's not how the religion works. And even then, what's wrong with being a Muslim? The whole conversation was so stupid. My husband used to go by "Tommy", now he goes by Tom, but professionally he is Thomas. Should I be concerned that he's a secret Muslim? It truly was. I feel compelled to recap/transcribe more of it, from those of us playing along at work, who couldn'twatch. They opened with a clip of Antonio Sabato Jr. speaking at the 2016 Republican National Convention. Then Meghan positively glowed as she introduced him (and said she remembered working with him at FOX). She lobbed him a softball about what he likes about Trump. Next, he explained that he's of both Italian and Czech descent. There was the foolishness about the blackballing/blacklisting and how losing your agent and management is exactly the same as fleeing the Holocaust. Then he pimped his congressional run. Then Sunny took the reins. NOTE: If dialogue appears on the same line, it was crosstalk (and that is what I could make out of said crosstalk). I also didn't transcribe ums and uhs and other filler, except where such things felt telling to me. SH: I have to press you, because one thing that was surprising to me is that you -- during an interview with ABC news -- said that President Obama is a Muslim. Do you think that has anything to do with the black...listing? AS [Who had started to interrupt Sunny mid-question, then talked over the end of it]: No. I never thought it was anything bad. I think -- there's millions of Muslims around the world, so I felt it was never an insult. I mean -- I'm Jewish. I became a Christian, and I felt that Obama -- I mean -- if he's not a Muslim, we should call him "President Barry," then, you know? It's... JB: But he's not a Muslim. / SH: He's not a Muslim. JB: It so happens he's not. / SH: You understand that. AS: Well, maybe it was my mistake then, or whatever... / JB: It was. AS: But I think that I uh -- I never meant -- I never meant -- you know I--I--I like the President. I liked 'im as a person -- his family. They're good people *[he shook his head "no" as he said this], so for me it was never an insult like that. SH: So, you understand he's not Muslim? AS: Okay [chuckles], then he's not. [Audience laughs quietly] JB: Do you -- get that? We've seen his birth certificate**. Um -- he was born in Hawaii / AS: No, what I-- what I-- AS: What I was saying was-- what I was saying was-- he changed his name to "Obama" because he followed the Islam religion, when he was growing up. So I felt that, you know, once you're in that religion, you stay for the rest of your life. SH: There's-- there's-- there's no evidence of... that. / JB: There's no evidence of that -- whatsoever. AS: Okay. That's fine. That's fine. Listen, right now we have issues that are different from what we had in the past. So I think we need to focus on that right now. We have some really serious issues -- uh -- in relations [not a typo] to our country. We need to uh... [nods] JB: But it's important not to propagate fake news. [Audience stars to applaud] AS: No, it was never like that. [Audience is positively cheering now -- for Joy's point, not underwear boy's] Joy finally takes pity on him, changes the subject to his congressional run, notes he started on GH (they showed a shot of Brenda and Jagger) and a Calvin Klein model (underwear shots) and asked him how his history qualifies him to run for Congress (adding she didn't mean to be snarky). His answer, "I don't think you really have any qualifications to run." And that? Might have been the most sensible part of his answer, so I'm done. I think Meghan picked it up from there. I would have loved a shot of her face during the nonsense, because I bet even she couldn't buy into his bullshit. FOOTNOTES: * "AS: They're good people *[he shook his head "no" as he said this], so for me it was never an insult like that." Shaking your head no when you're saying something is often a "tell" that you don't believe what you're saying. ** "JB: Do you -- get that? We've seen his birth certificate**. Um -- he was born in Hawaii" I think this was a misstep on Joy's part, which was a damned shame. She conflated birther-ism/born in Kenya claims with the claims that President Obama is a Muslim. I understand why, they usually go hand in hand, but they are two distinct bigoted lies meant to stir up Obama hatred among racists, religious bigots, and xenophobes. What she should have said is that we saw that his name was "Barack Obama" on his birth certificate. He didn't change any name any more than backformore's husband did. Too bad they didn't have someone on who's a name/word geek. I would have liked to see someone appeal to Sabato's Jewish heritage and point out that "barack," which means "blessed" in Arabic is pretty much the same word as "baruch/barukh," which he probably said in his childhood prayers, since it means "blessed," in Hebrew. I also wanted to someone to point out that Barry seems like a perfectly reasonable "Americanized" nickname for a kid named Barack, but that the last name is Obama on the birth cert -- so there was no name change you twit. (I'm thinking President Obama might have used his stepfather's surname when he was living with him in Indonesia, and that's probably what underwear boy thinks he's talking about, but even so attending a step-parent's house of worship or using his last name for a time is hardly a lifelong conversion). Anyhow, by the end of that exchange, I think Sunny and Joy were flabbergasted by how stupid he is and felt nearly as bad for him, as they did sickened by him. I have a few evangelical relatives and acquaintances. They don't believe in marriage equality. That sucks, but we co-exist and take pictures at holidays and enjoy each other's company. No one in my family was a governor of a state that signed a bill allowing businesses to deny service to gay people based on "religious freedom" that was not only fundamentally ridiculous but also lost millions of dollars for his state when conventions and corporations refused to do business there. Whoopi made a great point about "the photo-op", because had Adam Rippon done so, it would have made him a pariah on gay social media (seen as complicit) and implicitly told gay kids that this shit is okay. 8 Link to comment
