S08.E10: Welcome to a Puerto Rican Baby Shower

I just watched this shit show again, my wife had not seen it. It took a baby shower to bring out the true scumbag in Briana.

Speaking of scumbags, the scene when Karl took the boys to class, she has absolutely no self awareness or consideration for anyone. Karl is the most hideous human on TV, and yes I have seen Danielle from 90 Day Fiancé.

I don't have a problem with the idea of men attending showers or even co-ed showers, if that's what people want. MY husband wouldn't be into it, he would feel super uncomfortable. All the men there looked super uncomfortable. This wasn't a loving couple who were both super excited for their baby, and had all the couple friends over to celebrate. This is some moron who can't seem to figure out how to use a condom and her random club hook-up and his random friends who are filming a documentary about some random DJ that no one has ever heard of and another random dude that apparently sent Brianna flowers once and HIS random friend. NO ONE was into it. Hell, the females there didn't even seem into it!

Huge thumbs up to all this!

Maybe Luis' friends were the same dudes who videotaped Briana with their cell phones at the club when she was shaking her fat ass and grinding up with that random girl. They probably figured at the shower she was going to give a performance and they wanted to be there to capture it all on their camera.

I cannot think of one pleasant thing to say about the coven.  Briana has two personalities - she is either moping around feeling sorry for herself or she is being a bitch.  Not sure why anyone would choose to spend time with these women.   The "shower" was a shitshow.

So sad how Briana constantly talks about giving Stella up for adoption with little Nova sitting right there.   I'm sure that does wonders for her self-esteem.

Leah's life seems to be on a good trajectory this season but it is still upsetting to see how often Ali is not using her wheelchair.  I cringed when she was playing softball with Corey.

Kail is rude, selfish, entitled, etc. and will never ever change.   Vee and Jo seem to have a nice stable home life and Vivi is a cutie!

Does anybody happen to know why she decided to keep baby Stella instead of going the adoption route?  He's not stepping up and she is surely very unhappy.

Maybe she could think about birth control or getting her tubes tied.  Oh right...she's teen mom!  Never mind.

Alternate title for this episode: welcome to a terrible baby shower. I caught a rewatch of this and god.. that shower was so awful and awkward.

The exciting part was when she marched down the stair case in the rented home in her rented dress with the bra straps showing in the background.  How much money do you think MTV spent on this big party?  Uggg

Regarding Leah, it annoyed me when Victoria was quick to blame the school for not providing an aide earlier, but I'd bet money they offered and Leah and Cory refused. Their whole philosophy on Ali is that she's going to be just like every other kid, come hell or high water. Leah even admitted as much when she responded that they'd "wanted her to be independent." I wish they'd realize that using a wheelchair and participating in appropriate activities doesn't mean Ali's sacrificing her autonomy. If anything, I think Ali would be empowered doing things she can succeed at, as opposed to being shoved into athletics and failing.

Right. Barring the issue of the disability for a second, some kids aren't great at math. Would you FORCE them to participate in a math club year after year, day after day, knowing they would always feel less than and excluded and didn't enjoy it? No! You'd put them in art, writing, sports or dance.

On another note, Corey playing t ball with Ali, watching her get hurt and saying "that's what happens when you get hurt, you get mad and play better" was so disturbing, wrong and reckless. I felt sick watching it knowing how often that child is endangered, especially knowing they still do it. Let's face it, they won't ever stop.

My husband planned both our wedding and our coed baby shower. Most people I know are having coed ones these days, I don't think it's weird in the least. But they WANT to and are either happily partnered or co parenting (sorry for using the trigger phrase). Pretending to be together was so, so weird-- just have him at the baby shower as the father! Why do you have to pretend to be currently banging? Also you are on a national TV show and THE PEOPLE YOU ARE TRYING TO LIE TO WILL SEE IT.

I get being annoyed that someone is trying to film without permission. They should have asked. But Roxanne just *cannot* stop. They got it right away and apologized. Just back the fuck off then! Not every disagreement needs to be an angry confrontation. I did laugh at Brittany's "welcome to a Puerto Rican baby shower" to break the tension though.

Shallow, but-- seriously- what is up with Kailyn's face? Something is really wrong with it, yes? Also I am all the way there for Vee. Her face was totally "I warned you but I'm staying quiet." I hoped Jo would come to his senses because if I was Vee, I'd be so not into the whole buddy-buddy thing with Kail.

I know I should be commenting on Jenelle's irresponsibility as a parent but literally all I could think about or focus on was how much two people can possibly call each other "babe." I have a friend who does that with the word "boo" and eventually it consumes everything I hear when I listen to her. I'm literally not even listening to Jenelle and David except to anticipate the next "babe."

Adam is a POS, nothing new there.

Exactly.  It's almost abusive.  Pretty sure if their doctor saw that segment he might feel like reporting them.  They really are horrifying in their redneck stupidity.

She was hurt *in the segment.* And they kept playing. Sickening. But prayer will fix it y'all!

And no you're not alone in being over Leah. The lack of listening to doctor's orders makes me totally sick of both her and Corey, I have no love for that foolishness.

I have no idea how Chris will be as a parent. But that just sounded to me like - "Chris doesn't give a fuck about me OR the baby, so he won't cause any problems". Not something I'd brag about.

The thing is, that probably IS better for Kail. Just like how Jenelle "I need my life to be a 'music video shot in a club' level of entertaining at every moment" Evans Rogers Head Griffith DavidsLastName could literally never be with a dude who worked. Courtland, Nathan and David all don't have jobs, I don't think Kieffer did either. Jobless is a prerequisite for her, she can't be alone ever. Kailyn hates anyone with any opinion, and with two parents you're going to have some slight differences of opinion at least. Someone who doesn't care will probably be subservient because they just don't give a shit. That's like her dream.

Yes!! Sure Leah seems seems to be caring and listening more, but for the love of all things stop letting Ali play softball. All the improvements Leah is making means zilch to me since she still allows that mess to happen.  Poor Ali.

This. It's like they both know it's socially acceptable to say "we are following doctor's orders and getting her an aide!" but secretly they both hope that if they just push her to tumble and play t ball enough, Redneck Jebus will prove Dr. Tsao wrong. People in their circles also likely feel sympathy for them instead of pointing out what they're doing horribly wrong.

Redneck Jebus* is likely the reason Dr. Tsao is in their lives. They prayed for help and a miracle. Here comes Dr. Tsao. He can't cure Ali, but he offered his medical expertise on what they could do for their child. Advice they have chosen to ignore.

I suspect they have to show she is under a doctor's care to qualify for aid and benefits.  I'm not overly impressed with Dr. Tsao.  If I encountered him I'd want a lot more in the way of interaction and also an interpreter, because I can barely understand him.

Those scenes are highly edited. From what I understand, those visits are lengthy. We don't get to see an entire visit. MTV won't spend that much time showing us Ali at the doctor because they need to share us those lovely scenes of Kail, Jenelle, and Briana.

Having grown up in a Hispanic family, it is all about home-made taco shells. You warm up the tortilla over a flame, put whatever meat you prefer such as chicken, fold it and use a toothpick to hold it in place as you cook it in a pan. I use olive oil and very little oil. Just enough to toast the shell. Those cardboard shells they sell in the grocery store - ewww.

True.

Another reason, other than the editing is, the other medical professionals may not want to be filmed. We do know it is almost an all-day visit because Leah has mentioned it a few times. That is why she packs up coloring books and lunch for Ali.

I believe it takes all day.  It probably takes two hours to drive to the 21st century from Chaw Holler.  Specialists and assistants do tests, etc.  The length of the doctor visit may be exactly as shown.

I was watching with my daughter who is in college and I told her when I went I would have been pissed the fuck off if some hoochie brought their fucking kids and cameras and was on her fucking phone and we had a project to work on. Like she couldn't afford to fucking pay someone to watch the kids or maybe hmmmm, make plans before literally it is time to go to class. I swear this bitch chaps my ass. She has the means and money and should have the kids in a permanent place every day she goes to class or whatever, instead of running them back and forth between 20 houses because she can't keep her legs closed.

Literally what was so fucking important that she couldn't get off her fucking phone and watch her kids or pay attention to what they were doing for their presentation or whatever they were doing. I was pissed off for the other people and the professors because she cannot be professional or considerate of anyone but herself.

Yea, because she keeps phrasing it like - "I can't do THIS again". "THIS" being Nova. A child. Raising one. "By yourself" (which she's never done, because....Brittany. And Roxanne). Nova is going to internalize this as - "I made my mom's life hell".

Leah and Ali spend the night at a hotel when she goes to those visits. Leah drops off the other kids with family and she then heads out to Ohio. Cory himself mentioned the visits taking all day.

Those visits remind me of when I went with my sister when she had to take her son to see his specialists at Children's Hospital in Los Angeles. It was a long day. It is not like going to a doctor's office.

I just can't with Kail.  Does she really expect us to believe that with Jo, Javi and Javi's extended family, there was no one who could watch the boys for a few hours?  IKail threw a fit and just decided that martyrdom was a better option than Javi and that everyone else who paid to attend that class can "just deal" with two active, lively boys attending.  Don't worry Kail, all those people who are paying to learn aren't at all disturbed by you showing up with a camera crew and two boys!  I'm sure everyone in that class was just delighted that someone on a six figure salary couldn't find a single person to watch her children.

She really does take selfishness to a new level.

Briana can shove it with her "he cheated on me while I was pregnant" shick.  Did she really think that a guy who shows up to "da club" would just drop his one-night, party hard attitude and settle down for happy families? He was looking for a quick bang, not a lifetime commitment.  Expecting Luis to have some kind of miraculous personality change simply because he became a sperm donor is beyond stupid.

Also, no wonder the dude doesn't come around, has there been a single conversation where MiseryGuts doesn't throw it in his face that he "fucked up"?  Why would he want to be around someone who smugly sits there while mommy fights her battles and accusing him of being the sole reason why her life is terrible? It would be the equivalent of spending time with the Grinch only with less singing and no cute dog.

I've had college kids miss class because their kid was sick, they had work, etc. I've never had one bring their child to class but I know it happens. But it is meant to be in an emergency. Child care is woefully expensive in many areas and not everyone has great support. BUT THAT IS NOT KAIL. She could afford any childcare she wants, which is a major luxury for a young parent especially. There was no emergency, there was no actual change of plans, she just felt like it, basically. And if you DO bring them, omg at least stay off your phone and don't discipline them WHILE YOU ARE IN CLASS!!!

I'm sure MTV encouraged what she was doing because they still fancy themselves to be "teaching" people about what it's like to be a young parent. The thing is, they have paid these girls so damn much for so long that it backfires. Yes, maybe a different 25-year-old would have to take their child to class and be embarrassed about it a bit or at least frazzled and that could show something about what might happen as a teen mom--few resources, a delayed college degree, lots of distractions, etc. But we *all* know Kailyn doesn't actually have to do that, so it basically just seems like...she feels like taking two little kids to class for no reason? Is that supposed to make me feel bad?

Seriously, if she went on care.com or a drop in daycare she could have childcare in a matter of minutes. She isn't restricted by price so there is really no issue.

Did I miss something about the carseats because why couldn't Kail give Javi the boy's carseats and just take them back when she picked them up?

Didn't get a good look at the seats she has, but many substantial carseats take a lot of time and effort to move from car to car, as you have to hook up tethers, etc. unless you have the newer Britax versions that take about 2 minutes to install.  Isaac is old enough to only need a booster, which is a very quick change, and I don't fault Javi for not having something installed in his car for him.  But Javi should have a carseat in his car for Lincoln, since he is his father and shares custody/visitation.  I could understand if it was Jo not having all the carseats, as he has to have one for Vivi, and keeping 3 installed in one vehicle when you only need them occasionally is a royal pain.

That being said, I don't  know why she was all of a sudden focused on car seat safety, when she chooses to ignore other car safety laws, like texting and using the phone while driving. As many have suggested, she was just looking for a way to play martyr.

I have an almost 17 year old son and I talk with him all the time about how getting the wrong girl pregnant can add many years of unnecessary stress on your life.  But I know it's hard for teens to understand how much of their life it will affect.  I've decided that I'm going to have him watch Kail, Jo, and Javi's stories in full.  Let him get tired of just watching a bitch on a power trip over a period of years.  Let him feel the frustration of the fact that, like it or not, fathers generally get the short end of the stick.  (While simultaneously pointing out the things the men have also done wrong.)  My husband and I are working very hard to try to raise respectable young men who will be great husbands and fathers, if that's what they choose.  But hitch your wagon to a Kail, Jenelle or Briana and good luck.  That'll make it that much harder to get a Vee or Miranda the next time around because lots of good women won't even date a man who has a Kail in his life.

All this! I need to discuss this with my kids so they can plan accordingly with their children, both male and female.  After all, isn't this supposed to be the major justification for the show??

Could somebody please explain "UBT" when referring to David?  I'm sure it's something that makes perfect sense, but I missed how this pseudonym came to be.

Yeah, and maybe a different 25-year-old could have at least mustered a "I'm sorry" about the situation. It could have been editing, but the thing that struck me above all is, "IS THIS BITCH GOING TO SAY 'SORRY'?!" Even that little shit Justin Bieber was able to sing a song about it.

Regarding Ali's children's hospital visits being so edited down, I'm an RN, and I would be very uncomfortable being filmed for reality tv while I'm working.  Too much space for liability especially considering how the footage could be edited for sensationalism.  No, just no.   I can't be the only medical professional who feels that way.  Plus at doctor visits there is lots of waiting.  One of my twins goes to a children's hospital that we have to travel to and spend several nights.  Her appointments with various specialists are all scheduled on the same day.  Depending on what's going on, sometimes we have to stay and additional night for diagnostic tests the next day.

Back to filming, I'm noticing signs up around medical offices now that say no cameras allowed.  When cell phones were becoming ubiquitous, the signs said no cell phone calls in the rooms.   Now it includes no cameras or video recording. lol

The cameras have shown footage of Leah, Cory, and Ali outside of the hospital and there were a few scenes inside the hallways. Pretty much the rest have been scenes in the exam room. That is what I was getting at.

The drama Roxanne causes is intense but I feel bad for her and Brittany. Briana is obviously a better mom than Jenelle but Roxanne and Brittany both know their workload will increase every time Briana makes another dumb childish mistake and won't be grateful to them for helping. We can blame her for not holding Briana accountable but just like we see with Babs blaming Jenelle's woes on each of her latest partners (it was Nathan before, it was Kieffer, it was Courtland, now it's David-- none of which is untrue but Jenelle has been the same messed up person throughout), that's hard to do for moms. It drives me nuts that she doesn't make Briana take responsibility but I do feel for the two of them working their asses off and picking up after her mistakes because innocent kids are in the mix. Especially Brittany, because Briana is clearly the favorite even though she is the fuck up.

I feel bad for Brittany, but not Roxanne. They both enable Briana, but Roxanne CREATED her. She is now reaping the mess she has sown all those years. But I wish Brittany could get away. Get her own place. Problem is, she loves Nova too much.

Because I'm sure what ever vehicle Javi drives is not fancy enough for her Royal HighnASS.

(Didn't she get in it once, after he had just bought it, and remark about how "small" it was?)

I think Brittany will get away eventually. I agree she does love Nova and feels a responsibility to help out her mom and her sister (especially with her Mom's Lupus) but I do think Brittany comes and goes when she pleases. She also gets a piece of the MTV pie and has someone to split bills with. How old is Brittany? Do we know?
