Discussing the charges against Jana is fine, but do not post any information that reveals her address/contact information- even if said documents are public (i.e. a part of court proceedings.)

Discussing charges against Jana is NOT a jumping off point to speculate on other instances abuse/neglect etc towards the M-children or to elaborate on Josh's conviction and potential victims.

It's sad. Jinger may only have meant a small city like Little Rock, or even just a town that she could interact with on a personal level. The sidewalks in Springdale are just for show, there's not a face to be blurred to not be seen on Google street view.

When Michelle said Jinger wanted to live in a town with a Walmart, all I could think was "Come on, you live in effing Arkansas, is there a town without a Walmart?"

Oh, FlyingDi, you HAD to know someone was going to bite that hook. (me, me!!! Pick me!!!). I'm not in Arkansas, granted, but My little town has no Walmart. My little town has no buildings over 2 stories. However, my little town is home to the Atlanta Motor Speedway (and hosts 150,000 redneck race fans and all their best friends on a regular basis). AND we are home to the FAA flight center for the Atlanta airport. We also sport 3 of the dollar chain stores, a Wendy's, 87 convenience/bait/fresh biscuit stores, 3 trailer parks, at least 15 churches, 1000 guys Jinger's age (who all, unfortunately, go by "Bubba"), Honey Boo Boo (and Mama J), a couple Waffle Houses, a Fred's, and some of the nicest people you'll ever meet. (It's a happenin' place...). It's worth noting that we are very close to the county line of the next county north. THAT county built the county jail (and it's a biggun') with the fence literally ON the county line, and their closest neighbor is that county's landfill. (We don't like them much).

But if it's Walmart you want, there are 2 within 5 miles (north and south) and 2 more within 10 miles. AND: if you go that 10 mile extreme, you can hit the interstate and go ANYWHERE. Yep, you can GET there from here!!!

THE BIGGEST BONUS SCORE OF ALL... Is ME. Jinger, if you ever snoop as far as the blogs and see this, you come right on down, honey. We'll go to court and have the spelling of your name fixed first thing. Then we'll have about a six month deprogramming regimen. Get you in a good community college for some remedial courses (20 non-scary miles in either direction). Find out what YOU want to do with your life and get your feet on the right path. Feed you some fried chicken and mashed potatoes and get some meat back on those bones. Come on down, honey girl. Be the best thing that ever happened to you.

disclaimer: I'm a grandma, not a predator. ;)

HOW would Jinger really escape? Her knowledge of the outside world is distorted so, she is afraid of us. She needs a real plan and a go fund me account. Then someone has to get close to her and hand her a Hello Kitty keychain flashdrive with all the information. Maybe sneak 'tracts' into her bible or under her windshield until curiosity gets the better of her. JK, but it must be very frightening, to her, to think of leaving. As frightening as it is to us to think of her staying.

I second your whole post, Happyfatchick. Jinger, you would be wholeheartedly welcomed up North, too, except we'd go to Target instead of Wal Mart and I'd feed you cheese curds and bratwurst.

Honestly, the thought of Jinger turning her despair inward like that makes me sadder than anything I've ever seen of the Duggars. I have very little doubt that she's suffering intensely right now. I want to slap Michelle across the face and scream at her "stop staring at your dipshit husband for five minutes AND LOOK AT YOUR DAUGHTER."

Because they've so successfully dissuaded the kids from knowing anything or finding anything out or encountering anyting that their parents have not pre-screened, Jinger and all the rest of them must be very short on the mental tools you need to plan and execute or even to clearly imagine an escape, unfortunately. When Faith Pennington -- the no-birth-certificate girl -- famously escaped, she had to beg and beg her grandparents, who were already leery of the family situation, it seems, for sanctuary. But the Duggars are short on potentially helpful relatives, who mainly seem to have been coopted or to be at a distance. You have to be prepared to do most of what needs to be done on your own. And when someone has been as carefully isolated as they have, with pretty much every movement programmed by JB and M and spies everywhere, it's not clear how anybody would get the wherewithal to take what would be for them a tremendous leap. If Jinger's response to stress really is not eating, she's becoming unhealthy, too, and weakness won't be helpful. It's tragic.

I wouldn't expect children as sheltered as these to realize it, but as healthy english-speaking straight-edge young women with extensive childcare experience and driver's licenses, they could be making a healthy pile of money as live-in nannies around where I live.

That's a fantastic idea, Julia! If I was crazy rich and needed a nanny for my kids, I can't think of someone more perfect than Jana or Jinger, and you're right--they'd make a frigging FORTUNE. A FORTUNE, Jinger and Jana!

Shouldn't they realize it? Wasn't Michael(a) Bates a nanny before her marriage (not a live-in one, but still...)?

The speculation about a possible eating disorder does not need to delve into the specifics because we have no proof or confirmation that she does in fact suffer from one.

Secondly, we have asked that there be no speculation about the other victims even if it was easily surmised. We can follow the spirit of the redaction give them that semblance of privacy, at least.

Would step one be: Scour ads for live in nannies? What a great idea. It solves all issues, money, housing. They can simply walk out the door. Get to travel in some cases. I hear there is an opening in the Affleck household. There are lots of wealthy Christians as well. Julia solved this in one easy step, kudos to you.

Yeah, it's terrible that they don't see the keys hanging right within reach. But I'm pretty sure they don't. They're so programmed. I keep hoping that the programming has failed in somebody's case, but there's sure been no evidence of that. A hyper-controlling upbringing really messes with your will. And when you've been kept ignorant of just about everything as well, that's pretty deadly.

I know many people say we shouldn't talk about anybody in this kind of situation being brainwashed because it doesn't give enough credit to the fact that they're autonomous and may have decided to do exactly what their parents want and see things exactly their parents' way. But the plain truth is that it's just as likely if not more so that they are not making autonomous decisions at all. Brainwashing of children that lasts into and through adulthood is perfectly possible and happens all the time. Given all the guilt stuff we've heard from Jinger and the dead eyes thing we see in Jana and the apparent increasing deflatedness of Joy, I'd say they're very good candidates for having had this happen. Unless something really really drastic impels them, I doubt that an of them really has the ability to move on her own.

Dear Aja:

I'm almost afraid to ask, but have to.  What's a cheese curd?  Is that cottage cheese?  I know I'm going to feel stupid when you answer.  (I have Amish relatives, and SAW them eating what they called "head cheese" once.  If you don't know that one, seriously, don't ask.)

I feel ya, about Jinger.  The thing that has to be happening to that entire body of children just slays me too.  I've always identified as a "mommy".  My grown children still call me Mommy sometimes, and I still love it.  If you cut me, I'd bleed Mommy.  I am a multi-faceted person.  I can write a little.  I have my tidy little embroidery business (and just told my husband yesterday I am now making more than him - hehe!).  I can (and do) sew clothing.  I play piano.  I can speak in public (thought about doing that professionally at one point).  I can do accounting work (run circles around anybody with Excel).  Type about 90 WPM.  I sang for many years in a trio (2nd soprano - I told you I was part Soprano!).  I grow a big fat healthy garden every year.  I actually still "put up" veggies, and I canned salsa and Italian sauce this year.  I love my neighbors and am kind to strangers.  I am considered a strong leader in a business setting.  (actually, I'm kinda bossy in ANY setting).  And doggone it, people LIKE me!!.

But the truth is, all that can go straight to hell for my children.  I.Am.A.Mother.

My heart just absolutely bleeds over the younger children.  I don't even know their names - I can hardly bear to look at their pictures.  I want to grab them and run.  RUN I tell you!  The crazy that already was that family and now the disasters that just keep knocking them down just have to be overwhelming.  I know Jill is happy she's out of the country (as someone mentioned) and thank GOD she has Joy with her.  But I actually am missing Jill.  I think if she were here, she could be a stabilizing force for her family.  I think she might keep those little girls (whoever belonged to her) under her wing and try to protect them.  I bet she's crying for THEM.  I like to think so, anyway.  I picture Jessa like Bonnie Parker, ready to go all postal on SOMEbody - but I think Jill loves her little people and I kinda wish she was here for them.

And I quoted you, Aja, because I want you to slap Michelle not only once for Jinger, but over and over and over until you've covered every forgotten little soul in that CF that is the Duggars.  It's just crazy.

p.s.  I should mention I've purposed to seek the Lord in prayer for my less-than-submissive attitude about making more money than my husband (who also owns his own business) lately.  I'm going to memorize a really long chapter in the Bible and meditate on it day and night until I can act better.   [i'm not really - I've actually purposed to gloat about it!!!]

Not Aja, but have to say cheese curds are delicious!! Not really cottage cheese, but close. Cottage cheese is a certain type of cheese with the whey=remember the old time nursery rhyme talking about curds and whey? They were talking about cottage cheese. All cheese has whey (watery left over from milk after it has curdled) but, in the process has been drained. Most cheeses are put into presses (that's why they are mostly round or in squares) to drain the whey. Curds are cheese that haven't been pressed.  I've had cheddar curds. I went to Milwaukee once and my German genes thought they were in heaven with cheese curds, brats and the like. Oh yes, Jinger, take Aja's offer and go. Or take Happy Fat Chick's offer, heck, take any of them and get thee out of there!

Now the show is over, just what do they do? Josiah has just had a broken courtship. Does he mope or is Jim Bob finding work for him to get over it. Is Jana taking over Jill and Jessa's duties or training Jinger and Joy? Wasn't Joy the one who threw the coat hangers at Jill when they had to pick up things when Michelle and Josie were in Little Rock?    Just what do they do?

Marge must be down on her knees thanking God she got out when she did. She's probably already set up a prayer idol of one of the Bates boys.

Soooo ... does Josiah now have a broken courtship?  Or does he get a pass because his older brother is a total dirtbag sex offender and media trainwreck?

Seriously though, I feel bad for all these kids who came after Josh and wonder about their prospects for marriage and fulfillment as adults.

The Josh scandal has to be a way for the rest of the older kids to finally be free of the prison they live in. If they wanted to get to their parents they would ask for freedom now. I sure hope Babbo and Nutchelle realize that their "teachings" are warped and damaging.

I doubt this actually. You're right, of course, but they don't believe that. I think they both see what happened to Josh as an example of what happens when you let one of your kids go off to the Real World, instead of keeping him strictly under their own watchful eyes - and thumbs. They see it as a total corroboration of Gothard's teachings.

Agreed. And they may buckle down even further and restrict the so-called freedom of the older Duggar kids, even to the point of inserting themselves further into Jessa & Ben's marriage since they can control them by holding Ben's "job" and the mold house over their head should they start to get ideas of making plans to leave home, pursue a secular university education or take an honest to goodness secular job.

Refresh my memory, please!

A recent rumor said that Marsiah breakup was because Josiah wanted nude pictures, Skype masturbation, (and I think) phone sex? Given how Josh was shown giving Josiah advice, I just kind of wonder. I don't want to think bad thoughts about the other kids, so I'm sorry if ti crossed the line, but this kind of bombshell changes the way you see everything.

Ha. Tontitown is very small though. Looking it up, it seems that they have to drive 20 minutes or so to get to Wal-Mart. But we all knew that's not what Jinger really meant. Michelle wanted to squash any viewer notions that perhaps living in a compound as a sister mom/slave while also living in the middle of nowhere isn't Jinger's dream.

I hate to cast dispersion, but this scandal makes me wonder if the sexting story was true.

If Josh was giving him advice, who knows. I doubt that's true though, because Josh needed to keep his secrets completely to himself.

A thought just occurred to me. I bet that Josh is in a panic, realizing that he's gotten so much exposure now that he might never be able to seek out casual sex again. I don't believe for a minute that he has reformed -- but for all the wrong reasons, he may actually remain physically faithful to Anna from now on, because he's going to be way too paranoid that a stranger from Craigslist, or even an escort, might recognize him and take the story right to the media.

I completely disagree with the person who was saying fundie men stray because their wives dress frumpily. First of all, as much as we snark, the way Anna and the Duggar girls dress isn't that frumpy. It still highlights their breasts and shows their legs. And fundies have nothing at all against lingerie in the bedroom; in fact, I have heard it encouraged. I actually think some people are just simply not cut out for marriage and monogamy and he is one of them.

Not to this degree by any means, but the Bates parents realized that such tightened reins were messing with their oldest. They decided to loosen things up a bit, as far as courting is concerned. They are Gothardites, but they also seem to have common sense and genuine love for their children.

Hmm, Gothard & common sense in the same sentence. Well y'all know what I mean.

I dunno, there's people who would literally sleep with anyone, eg 45+ sun damaged barfly skanks, half of the grandmas on "Teen Mom", June Shannon. He might not get exactly what he was after, but I don't think he was getting that before, either.

I'm a hope-for-the-bester, and this sure is the time to get out. But I have the strong feeling that JB and M will never ever ever realize that and that, in fact, they never actually realize anything. They're an incredibly stubborn, two-person echo chamber of delusion. I think if the kids want freedom, they're going to have to grab it on their own, unfortunately. Hope that isn't the case. But I really have no hope for these crazy parents seeing any error in their own ways.

If being nationally exposed as a child molester and having his family's TV show cancelled because of it didn't stop him from trying to mount everything in sight, I'm not sure paranoia is on his radar much.

It did stop him. May is when he cancelled his Ashley Madison account and we can assume it's because he realized that while before, only the relatively modest number of viewers would recognize him, after the scandal with his face plastered everywhere, he was far more recognizable. So I think it's quite likely that he didn't attempt anything after the scandal broke in May.

I think he'll make do with his porn and sneaking out to strip clubs in disguise.

If internet sites like People & US are to be believed, the scandal has actually caused M & JB to double down on their religion.

Rather than blame themselves, M & JB will likely use Josh as proof of just how evil outside influences like the internet really are. IMHO, its over for the howlers & lost girls. Jana, Jinger, et al it was nice knowing you.

Or, in May the first scandal broke and Huckabee's PR team asked him what else was out there that could throw gasoline on that particular fire, he owned up to this, cancelled the account and thought he was home free until the site got hacked.

Brought this over from the Dillards' thread, where Margaritas were being drunk:

Meanwhile, back in Arkansas, the breakup of Josiah's and Marjorie's courtship turns out to have been a sham. Josiah packs a bag, jumps out a second story window at the TTH and onto the back of a Vespa piloted by Marjorie. They speed the 10 miles to her house where her parents pop them into the car and hustle them to the airport. They fly to a lovely college town in the Midwest where the Jacksons have helped them both to enroll as freshmen in a school affiliated with a moderate Protestant denomination. That evening, the formerly courting couple enjoy their first real date -- dinner and the late showing of a tasteful, R-rated art film.

Later that night, Tim Tebow's mother drives a van quietly up the road near the Duggar place. Across the dark lawn creep seven figures, five small ones and two taller ones, each carrying a small suitcase. While Mrs. Tebow's son, Tim, isn't interested in dating Jana or Jinger, and even though the Tebows have a conservative Christian faith that seems like the Duggars', when Mrs. Tebow met the family last year she was horrified at the prisonlike conditions the Duggar children have lived in and vowed to do something to help at least some of the kids. Reaching out to her wide acquaintance, she finally located a wealthy New York City couple with two children who've been looking to hire two excellent, principled young women to job-share the nanny position for their brood. After Mrs. Tebow's vivid description of the horror that is the TTH -- and Jana's and Jinger's excellent qualifications for the job-- the extremely wealthy couple offered to open their home not only to Jana and Jinger but to their "children" --  Hannie, Jackson, Jenny, Jordyn and Josie Duggar -- as well.

Someone else will have to figure out how to get JD, Joe and the Howlers out of there.

The Howlers escape through being sent to what JimChelle thought was a camp and never returning. Nine months later, JimBob swears to Michelle they had a whole bunch of kids, but the memory is even more faint in her mind. They look at the birthday keychain thing on the wall, and try to pronounce the names "Jing-er? Rhyming with finger? That seems familiar, but it sounds so stupid. No Michelle, we have only one child, Josh, and he's in his baby cage". Or the Howler staffed Duggar construction construct prison walls around the TTH.

Maybe all of us that care about Jinger can get our resources together and do a mass airdrop of informational letters for her....about ALL the people willing to help her......ALL over the Duggar compound! THOUSANDS AND THOUSANDS OF THEM...She's bound to see ONE of them, right?" This was after I thought about how they finally got Harry's invite to Hogwarts to him via magical owls (anyone here own a magical owl?)
