THAT is info that was probably in his non-disclosure agreement, as it’s not something that production would want to get out, I’d think.

Its been out there that the culinary team tests all of the challenges before both Lee Anne and Sandee Birdsong. Using former comtestants makes perfect sense.

Last night I opened my February issue of Food & Wine magazine and there, right inside the cover, was an ad for something called #LetHawaiiHappen with a picture of Sheldon and his recommendations for places to eat on Maui.  He's come a long way from his shack on the beach.  I'm very happy for him.

Random Instagram observations:

Adrienne got engaged in August.

Joe Flamm's mom interacts with some of the contestants, namely wishing Fatima well on her road to recovery. She is so funny. Regarding the dreaded cauliflower, she said, "Don't worry, honey, it's dead to us."

Joe Sasto commented on one of Adrienne's posts back in January 2017. Filming began in May. Makes you wonder about the timeline of the show.

He made some recommendations for "a perfect day of eating" on Maui in this article from Nov 2017:  https://www.jetsetter.com/magazine/1952/best-restaurants-on-maui-sheldon-simeon . The only overlap with the Feb 2018 F&W ad is L'AVA's Sportsbar & Karaoke.

He also hosts "Cooking in America", a series put out by Eater, now in its third season –  https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLUeEVLHfB5-QDnrM7U_DmP31k8L_2cB2k  – and back in Season 1 episode 1 he talked about food in Hawaii: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yppa6dc8uf0 .

An article from 2014 also reported on his past restaurants and background, and dwelt on a meal (illustrating his food) at his past restaurant MIGRANT:  https://mauitime.com/food-drink/maui-restaurants/migrant-maui-chef-sheldon-simeon-means-it-when-he-says-come-my-house-eat/ .

Or they could just know each in life or on SM because they are or have been chefs at high end restaurants so most likely have mutual friends.

I'd have to take a course in Hawaiian cooking/nomenclature before understanding a lot of those dishes.  I have no idea what many of the ingredients are.  However, every single one looked and sounded delicious.  I'd like to try them all.  My sister lives in Hawaii.  Maybe I should plan a visit..........................

Just remember, take LOTS of pictures of your dining adventures to share!

Claudette just posted that she is going to cook a "cannibis  dinner".

Is that what I think it means? Can someone enlighten me? Thank you in advance.

Probably. I didn't find Claudette's, but here's an LAT piece on the phenomenon.  http://www.latimes.com/food/dailydish/la-dd-weed-cannabis-dinner-class-20170217-story.html

The pear tarts look good but I'd prefer they leave out the cannabis, personally.

There’s a show called Bong Appetit. Check it out, it’s hilarious sometimes! Maybe Claudette is auditioning?

People who are "high" reportedly "see" colors differently...and lip colors, for example, have been stated by folks on drugs to look vividly different.  Maybe this might be one way for that c-person's black lips to seem "normal", as a reversal of color perception.

She's not the first Top Chef alumnus to do this.  I'm quoting myself here from a few years ago in this thread:

Season 5 Champion Hosea Rosenberg hosted an interesting private event recently.  Keep in mind that he's Colorado based. ;)

There are 4 episodes left according to the chart on Wikipedia, the final episode airs March 8.

What foods are on the plate in your avatar? I see it is a fish.  I spent way more time than reasonable trying to figure this out. This is the first time I zeroed in on it.

Bread sliced to look like a fish. Cream cheese with strawberries on top. Blueberry bubbles, chives for the grass. :)

I got the blueberries and bread but on my phone the body looks like a slab of bloody meat.  Lol

Had Food Network on in the background when I heard a voice so distinctive it pulled me out of deep concentration. Chris Scott was on an episode of Beat Bobby Flay that aired 12/1/2016 (titled "You've Got to Be Kidding Me" because Carla Hall was on with two young actors).

Who won?  I don't remember that.

Spoiler

I zoned back out after Chris didn't make it past the first round. I think Bobby ended up beating the chef who beat Chris, a woman I vaguely remember from MasterChef Canada.

Manbun was on my tv last night! Philip was on a Guy's Grocery Games completion. I got bored and didn't watch the whole thing. Does anyone know if he won?

That must have been a rerun.  He won the first time he was on.  I seem to recall that he came back for a competition between previous winners but I can't remember what happened.  He also won Chopped and, I think, Cutthroat Kitchen.  I liked him on all those shows.  He came across entirely different on Top Chef and not in a good way.

First Manbun, now Padma. My daughter was watching an old episode of Star Trek Enterprise, and Padma was a guest star. She played a princess (naturally).

Heh. As it happens, I am playing Season 2 of ST:Enterprise - from my CD set of the whole series right now. I do this from time to time; I enjoy this iteration of ST quite a bit.

Seems like the chefs are having a finale viewing party in Chicago. Joe Flamm, Bruce, Joe S, Brother, Tyler, there, among others. Adrienne does not seem to be there. They are having dinner at Spiaggia with Joe S and Joe F cooking as we speak. I wonder who won?

^ Hopefully that means that Adrienne won and is now too cool to hang out with those losers.

Adrienne is from Chicago. Her mom, sister and baby nephew still live there. Does anyone know if she is in NY or Chicago tonight?

I just watched season 5. Please fill me in on the Hosea hate. I know that he canoodled with Leah and lost his fiancée, but surely others canoodled before and since (just off-camera).

Is it simply that people think that Fabio or Stephan were more deserving?

These to got engaged on "The Chew" this morning.

https://www.mediaite.com/food/last-call-10-17-13/

Miami Herald: In the Top Chefiest Top Chef scandal ever to come out of Andy Cohen’s culinary thunderdome, Season 5 contestant Jeff McInnis allegedly abandoned his wife and infant daughter to run away with Janine “The Hot Aussie” Booth from the current season of Top Chef: New Orleans. Sorry to whomever was developing that story as a killer Top Chef fanfic.
