Lol. Nah. Married is not single.

My sentence construction was bad.  What I mean is that if some is not married, that doesn't mean they are single.  Being in a monogamous relationship, but unmarried, also counts as "not single".

No. If someone could legally marry another right now, they're single. "Single" is a marital status, not a social media relationship status.

That's a strange definition.  You're being pretty restrictive with looking at this in a strictly legal sense.  Yes in matters of law, you're either single or married, since unmarried couples cannot legally own property together or file jointly on their tax returns.  But it is generally agreed that it would be immoral for, say, a woman who has been dating a man exclusively for 2 years to go sleep with another man.

But we probably shouldn't argue this much further because it will just get frustrating and a mod will probably come in and stomp on us.

Unmarried couples can own property together, gay couples made all sorts of legal arrangements before they could get legally married, I know a few that are still unmarried or very recently married gay couples even though they had been together for decades, owned houses together etc. Even the census has an option for living with unmarried partner.

I think (hope?) Whitney knows that Roy being gay makes her look even worse...like, more pathetic, for throwing herself at a guy who is not only way too young for her and way too good for her, but GAY to boot. Just one more reason he wouldn't ever in a billion years date her. As if he needed another reason.

Related news: Whitney has made me more straight. I used to consider myself "a three-beer queer," now I am downgraded to "gay for pay."

When did Roy come out of the closet? And how did TLC not think that a) viewers would find out and know this is a fake storyline and b) even suggest to push the Shitney&Roy storyline if the man isn't even interested in women? (let alone a crazy smelly fat person like twit).  Sorry she just disgusts me. I am past hate watching.

I wonder about Roy, too. Did he say he had a girlfriend on the show? One that Whitney obsessed over, even though the topic clearly irritated Roy?

I can't remember but I think he put it in terms like "I'm in a relationship" or "I'm seeing someone." Either way, at the time, he wasn't out, so "I have a girlfriend" would've been nothing more than a convenient lie. For normal people, that is. For Whitney, it just stoked the drama.

I have been trying to decide what has been bugging me about this show (among other things) and it is all these "friends".  Maybe I am unusual but when I was in my 30s I did not have numbers of friends hanging around in my living room.  Most were married, working, and otherwise living their lives without spending hours with me.  I recall that Ruby show who also had these omnipresent friends always at her beck and call.  I  think it is tres strange how these Whitney "friends" are always around and seemingly eager to spend time with her.  Even the pregnant friend seems to be around all the time.

It's pretty common to go ABD (All But Dissertation) and stop. I was envious of a doctoral cohort that was going to finish 'on time' (read: in the 3 years you're "supposed" to finish - at least on your TA contract, anyway), and she was also publishing and running around to conferences (she's childless and lives with her parents, so she really lucked out with the financial/responsibility areas). She started her dissertation, and honestly has no idea when she'll finish collecting data and analyzing it - much less writing everything up. I asked a mutual friend what was going on, and he said, "Girl, she just got damn LAZY." It's a trap that many fall into, especially with responsibilities like family and FT work.

And THANK YOU about the capital R in LauRen. What's even more annoying is the stress on the second syllable. Jesus Christ already - is your life THAT boring that you have to reinvent your own given name? I had a college roommate as an undergrad who pronounced her name "Shah-KNOWN." I never saw her DL of her mail, so I thought it was spelled "Chenon" or "Shanoun" or maybe something Gaelic, I don't know. About halfway through the semester, a family member called the apartment and asked for "Shannon" and we had no damn clue who they were asking for. ???

You can't hold a person accountable for the dopey name that their parents burdened them with. I had a friend named Chris Cross...

Didn't Nada explain that they were planning an engagement party, new dress and all, and he no-showed? Sounds like it wasn't going to be called an engagement until the party.

That's why I'm not married! Having a boyfriend suits me just fine. And we've been together for eight years.

True - I made an assumption that could well be incorrect - that her parents named her "Lauren" and she committed a random act of capitalization to create her radio personality moniker...

I thought he said he had a girlfriend - but either way, the normal response is to say "Oh well, too bad for me" in your TH and then leave the guy alone.  Whitney went on a rampage to prove he was lying - as if that would mean he'd have to date her once it was proven!  I was always looking forward to him saying, "Fine!  I don't have a girlfriend - I just don't want to date you!"

Not to mention that Roy Brown is eleven or twelve years younger than Whitney, reason enough for a man in his early twenties to be uninterested in a romantic relationship with her.

Hopefully I can post this here.

I have been musing what will Shitney do WHEN TLC cancels the show.  Cancellation is inevitable since a) you know they will run out of storylines or b) some scandal will come out to shut them down.

So far I have come up with:

1. Big woman porn star

2. 600 lb Life

3. From Not to Hot (a la another stinker Mama June)

You know she is stupid enough to not have saved and invested any TLC $$. But for one, I will be happy when I hear the news that MBFFL is cancelled.

Which included supervising the station interns, which was what Whitney was.  And in his affronted response to Maney and LauRen's  constant teasing him about her, that "he was HER BOSS," I very much heard a young man trying to maintain his dignity and professionalism in the face of  what he clearly considered inappropriate suggestions by his co-workers. Of course both "dignity" and "professionalism" are well out of Whitney's range, while I expect that Maney and LauRen found Roy's reaction funny, and a little pompous,  and so kept pushing it

Here's Roy, pinned down by Whitney at the reunion, and handling it with remarkable poise. If she really knew he was gay during this interaction, she's a MUCH better actress than I've ever given her credit for.

True.

Also, Roy owed her NOTHING. She came off as demanding and entitled. And yes, Sweatney, I've had that level of texting with a (married) male colleague and it wasn't meant or interpreted as anything beyond what it was on its face (and I would've had no issue showing it to my husband but he doesn't like my colleague and thinks he's boring). That is so frustrating. This is something women complain about men all the time, and here Whitney is, acting just as bad--worse, even, since he was clear that he was her BOSS and not interested in dating her! Demanding that he come clean about his girlfriend. Say he was lying and did make her up? (Which he did but he was in the closet and being cornered by a subordinate who wouldn't leave him alone, so I'm gonna give him a pass.) What would she do if he had admitted he was lying? Swear at him and demand he date her since she is so irresistible? Why would you want a guy who dislikes you so much, who you make so uncomfortable that he has to lie to get you off of him, that you'd be willing to date someone who feels so desperate as to lie to you to get you to leave him alone? They were coworkers. He doesn't owe her any details about his love life. He doesn't owe her jack shit! But because she's so FAT and FABULOUS, she can't fathom why he may not want her.

Sure, maybe the text messages were copious, but that doesn't necessarily designate romantic interest. As soon as he sat down next to her and put his arm across the back of the sofa, I was sure she was going to assume that was him expressing interest in her. She's so damn delusional. Her life is so sad and pathetic. Her parents have created a monster and I hope they feel the appropriate amount of shame.

I just came over to post this link. He didn't lie about having a girlfriend while at the radio station. The rest of the crew knew he was gay at that point.

It was at the reunion when he was more or less trapped into either outing himself or saying he had had a girlfriend. I thought he did well up until that point. I can't imagine why MLR would have wanted another season especially since they weren't paid.

I suspect something like Not to Hot is already in the minds of the producers to sell to TLC when MBFFL ends. And I think Twit would go for it, saving her from the ignominy of M600#L.

I don't want to get too far off topic but what about couples who are in long-term committed relationships but are not married? Or those who were unable to marry, like gay couples? My kids' godfather was with his partner for 20+ years and it was a committed, loving relationship but they weren't allowed to get married. Neither felt as if they were single just because they hadn't signed a piece of paper. My husband and I are married now but before we married we actually dated for several years, lived together, had a kid, and bought a house together. (We couldn't marry right away because he's from the UK and we had to go through the immigration process.) We didn't feel single just because we weren't yet legally bound. And then there's Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell who have been together for almost 40 years and they never married. They own properties together, have children, and are monogamous.

Hey, everyone! New member here, but I've been reading the various MBFFL threads for a while. You all are so funny and spot-on with your commentary on this dumpster fire. The only thing I can thank her for is the inspiration to take better care of my flesh vessel, and to keep my SM content to a minimum. She has me checking my behavior even more than my own parents did.

It's a shame. She's beautiful, funny, comes from a well-off family, has some really cool friends and seemingly endless opportunities and resources -- and she's squandering it all to live her best life on TLC, Facebook, and Instagram. Oh, to be a fly on the wall when they aren't filming! At first I wanted to help her, but now I'm just hate-watching. Thanks for the laughs, guys, I'm looking forward to more.

Legally married includes common law marriage if it's recognized in your jurisdiction. If you aren't legally married you're legally single. If you want to say you're in a relationship, taken, committed, etc. I don't take issue with that, but IMO single and married are the two choices for marital status and it bugs me that people confuse SM relationship statuses with marital statuses.

And with that, I'm not saying anymore about it. ?

Can we just talk about what a profoundly shitty thing this was to do? The guy was in the closet and Whit pressed and pressed and pressed on national television. We have made a lot of progress on gay equality but gay people, even complete out gay people like me, especially ones like Roy that don't present as stereotypically gay can feel tremendous pressure not to out themselves in a lot of situations for a lot of good reasons. Back when I was single I had neighbors in my condo building, including my next door neighbor, or friends of neighbors try and set me up with their children all the time and then it was always an awkward conversation because these are people I live with, do I out myself? Lie?

For someone like Whit would claims to be such a big supporter of LGBT equality she made an awful lot of assumptions about Roy and why he wouldn't date her, she put him in a very uncomfortable position, possibly even endangering his employment because she just wouldn't take no for an answer because of her giant ego.

It's shitty to do even to a straight person, even worse to inadvertently try to force someone out of the closet. A "no thank you" should always be enough. Whitney claims to be LGBT friendly (even tried to convince us at one point she went on a "date" with a woman), but only as far as it satisfies her narrative of "everyone wants me." I hope she feels ashamed of herself, but who am I kidding, she has no fucking shame.

And say he, regardless of orientation, did indulge her come-ons? He was her manager! That's an HR nightmare waiting to happen! She was harassing him and when he didn't take the bait, she badgered him for answers. I'm not one to police people's coming-out timing, but I'm kind of surprised he didn't come out then on TV out of fucking frustration.

I would like to see her on a show with Ruby as her life coach. Remember Ruby? She has figured it out and lost weight and is healthy now.  Say what you will about whiny famewhores but weight loss is a bitch and Ruby has figured it out. Then Whit could go on DWTS. I know that she is annoying but I do think that the overacting and dopey behavior is to show how little she cares about being awkward and out of the norm - kind of like Lena Dunham. And some of these reality producers encourage the most buffoonish behavior to continue the "stars" employment. Andy Choen and his awful housewives are a good example of that and if you view early Guy Fieri shows he wasn't nearly the douchebro that he is now.

Regarding JohnM's post......

What Whitney did was inappropriate to anyone. If she knew he was gay and not openly gay she had extra levels of wrong in what she did.

Whitney is a bulldozer who will do and say anything regardless of who it hurts, endangers or angers. She has repeatedly made comments that she can never understand or accept anyone else's feelings/opinions if they differ from hers.   She bulldozes both verbally and physically. She is sick.

I have a client who I get on average 100 texts from a day. And I reply to a lot of them. It doesn't mean that he's interested in me or that I am interested in him. It means that I am a hard working attorney and he's got complicated legal and other issues I'm helping him with. He does better with small messages so frequently things that I would put in one long message to others gets put into smaller multiple messages. His phone can only send 140 characters at a time so I get a lot of texts as well. Plus he has a habit of duplicating his texts so I'll get the same ones multiple times. Given that she was the intern, it may be that he was sending her work instructions and trying to get her to do her job. We've seen she needs more guidance than most  to get a job right. I'd send her lengthy texts as well.

In looking at the rooms, she and Nada also stayed in either the Thomas Wolfe or the Battery Park rooms. They would be in the Sanctuary Pavilion 2nd floor  rooms 205-208., just not sure which two I do feel for Nada. It is a fair walk from the Pavilion to the Tranquility Trail. I did notice that Sweatney was able to tie her own shoes while on this. I guess seeing Nada do it was inspirational.

Lol re Sweatney finding it inspirational.

Hubby and I are both lawyers, too. He hardly texts anyone but he gets emails from clients literally 24/7. Some of them just need hand-holding but only in a business sense. My colleague and I (actually he's a former colleague) rarely texted about work because I'm weird about wanting all of that documented in emails. (I think that's why hubby doesn't text about work, ever.) But we had similar interests in politics, travel, sports and food and yes, he texted me commentary on (mostly local) politics, memes about college football, pics of his family vacay in Italy, and pics of the food they ate. I'm sure Sweatney would interpret all of it as "wish you were here" whereas I took it as "thought you might find this interesting." But I'm a grownup. ?

Oh I just watched the Alicia episode and I wanted to say I agree that they look a lot alike! Well, Alicia is way prettier. But they have similar coloring and...waddles. (I'm going to hell, as we all know)

Well, you will have plenty of company!

This is where Sweatney took Nada for her cleanse trek through nature  torture. I wonder how the center felt, watching them talk about ordering pizza and watching Sweatney nearly kill Nada.

@AUJulia, thanks for providing this info. ?

ETA: All those folks on the "Tranquility Trail" with Twit & Nada sure got gypped.

I'm a criminal attorney. It is actually easier to get in touch with most of the families via text since my clients tend to be in jail. But I also have a program that offloads my messages and stores them. I have complete records of all of those conversations. Best money I ever spent on a program. Even if I delete something off my phone, it still captures it. Came in useful for a client who tried to claim that he never said he was going to pay me after the case changed and that he was never in contact with me. Somehow those 2500 text messages and 300 calls in 6 weeks he had erased from his phone. Sent it to him and highlighted all the times that he agreed to the increase fee (originally it was a flat fee for drafting something for him, morphed into representation) and all of the calls we had made and that i had made on his behalf showing over 150 hours of work. I undercut my price for him as well. Learned valuable lessons on that one. There is nothing wrong with having a work colleague as a friend. She really needs to learn that. She also needs to learn to keep her hands to herself or I'm so going to get licensed in NC just to go put out lots of flyers around Greensboro offering my services for filing sexual harassment, workplace harassment, and intentional infliction of emotional distress claims as well as protective orders. I wonder if I could get enough for a class action.... Also, I'm pretty sure that the donkey braying laugh she has is a public nuisance.

From reading your post, I want you to get licenses in AZ, too.  If I need an attorney, you're the one!!!

I figured you had it under control. ??

Here's Roy, pinned down by Whitney at the reunion, and handling it with remarkable poise. If she really knew he was gay during this interaction, she's a MUCH better actress than I've ever given her credit for.

Thanks for that! I watched it and then clicked on the 2-minute "Roy fires Whitney" clip just for fun.  I'm not sure where this argument left off - but she looks REALLY fat in that clip!!  She was wearing a boot for an "injured" foot which I seem to remember was a takeout to get out of something or other.  But anyway, I think she has lost a little weight compared to that.  I'm sorry that I don't know how to link it.

Exactly!  I felt embarrassment for her watching that clip, but she had none.  And once again - push it hard enough and how does that conversation end?  How can she not realize that it would be the opposite of a date and happily-ever-after.

Sorry but I think Ruby is still at least 300 lbs in her after picture.  It hides her incredibly wide hips, and compares her to her "before" pics of when she was 700 lbs, not 400 like she was on her show.  She's a con artist too, and anyone who pays for her "life coaching" gets what they deserve - probably advice to procrastinate on going to the Christmas Doctor because it's embarrassing, y'all.

I'm absolutely not into touchy-feely stuff.  No "life coaching," no psychics, cleanses, etc.
What she needs is a real job, that requires showing up on a daily basis, decently groomed and clothed.

But would that make her hacky?

Roy could absolutely claim a metoo. A milder one but one nonetheless. I cannot imagine that the radio station would EVER hire her after that buffoonery.

The Mr. and I have been together for ten years with no desire to be married. Our money and property is all separate and we had zero desire to have children.. It works!

Ruby has lost some weight and may be a wonderful person (no idea) but she still seems very over weight according to pictures on her website.  I didn’t go through them all maybe there’s others on there showing an average weight.  I’m sure she’s lost a lot of weight but is still probably considered obese and has been for years. On her show Ruby always had excuses too although I don’t remember any senshus nonsense except her pining away for her ex.  I always find it odd when people are “life coaches” or “experts” at things they can’t accomplish themselves. (Ie having a healthy body weight) It’s like getting financial advice from a guy who is broke.  Ruby’s coaching may be about other things in life, career advice, relationship advice (although I don’t know if she had one besides whatever ex’s name is).  Either way she may be good or an expert at somethings but from the pics Ive seen ultimate weight loss isn’t one of them.  She should be applauded for losing as much as she has though.  I also can’t imagine Whitney taking advice from her.  Whitney thinks or portrays herself to think she’s a healthy, talented, sexpot.  IMO Whitney think she’s above Ruby.  I’m not saying she is but I think she would think that based on the ridiculous pictures she post bragging about her senshusness and Fortune 5 dollar company.  I was a teen when Ruby tv show was on so I’ve forgotten some of the details but I think Ruby seemed at least nice although emotionally stunted, which is an improvement over Whitney.
