In heels, Kate is as tall as William, who is 6'2"She wears designer clothes off the runway, only altered for modesty in some cases. Girlfriend is TALL. All you have to do is look at her next to her husband to know that she is taller than 5'7".

And by TLC's own admission in an early special (Raising 16 Children?), Jill was already 5'6 1/2" at 14/15. (Smuggar had already reached his full height of 6'). Jessa was still growing, listed then at only 5'2", Jinger was 4'11". It was the "lineup" that listed heights and what they wanted to be when they grew up. That's how we were informed that Smuggar wanted to be a lawyer. However,  Other than what I've noted, I can't remember any of the rest, other than Jinger wanting to be a chef. LOL

OMG, that picture from Jill's wedding...I had totally forgotten (or blocked from my memory) those hideous bridesmaid's dresses. Even worse, the shoes. Jessa and those scruffy sandals, does she ever take them off? Jessa and Joy look like they have dirty feet and we know barefoot bride Jill had filthy feet that day.

It is like they have no concept of dress shoes, just grab a pair and go regardless of the occasion.

The sad thing is, they actually filmed them buying their shoes at a chain that was easily recognized by many people on the boards (it was named in the show, so  shoes were comped). Whatever the store was, they don't have them on the west coast, but IIRC, it was a minor step up from Payless? Am I remembering correctly?

I thought it was Payless ...

Both of those stores on the west coast, at least in the Seattle area and have been in business here fore years before Jill and Jessa's weddings.

I think we have a DSW around here somewhere, but I'd never heard of Famous Footwear before that episode. I don't think they're in this part of NoCal. eta: Stand corrected. There's one in San Jose and one about 15 miles away at a mall you couldn't pay me to go to (it's all run down and old, and the stores there pretty much suck).

Those bridesmaids' dresses were a crime against fashion. My sewing experience is limited to middle school home ec class and I think I could've done a better job with the alterations. They should've bought material that matched the turquoise. The awful white just makes them look like their slips were hanging out. I can only imagine what Joy will come up with.

  • Love 5

I remember that they claimed that they only bought one extra dress for material to do the alterations. 1. Thats a lie. The material to make the second skirt layer is at least two, if not three extra dresses of width. 2. Add to that material to do six sets of sleeves. That white layer looks like Jana just grabbed some wrinkled linen out of her scrap heap. Thankfully, those dresses haven't made an appearance anywhere since (nor have Jessa's, thankfully). I'd be scared of Joy recycling, but Jill doesn't have one, and Hannie would have outgrown hers.

I can't imagine how Joy's can be worse than these, but I'm sure she'll do her damned best to make it a close race to the bottom.

Yeah, and it was her WEDDING -- the biggest day in a fundie girl's life. When is the occassion important enough for them to not look like garbage?

It's just ridiculous. The number of women in the world who dress modestly far outweighs the number who don't. The idea that there was nowhere they could find some nice dresses that would cover there knees is so preposterous as to beggar belief. It's just part of their brand that they HAVE to buy clothes that don't work for them and just "fix" them a little bit with extra "modesty panels" and "modesty ruffles" to show off their extreme modesty.

Not to insult Jana who shouldn't have had to do anything for any of these weddings, but the fact that she was the only one of the girls who was able to do ANY dressmaking for any of these super-cheap weddings is insane. I wasn't raised to be a help-meet, but I was taught to sew. As we have discussed before, none of these girls can cook, or clean, or sew, or do anything that a homemaker would be expected to do.

Not everyone can afford to have every piece of clothing tailored or custom-made.

Honestly, Jill looks pretty good in that photo. It pains me to say anything complementary about her.

No, of course not.  However, there are plenty of similarly styled maternity dresses available at very reasonable prices.  Here's a sample from H&M.  BTW, note the multiple maternity tee shirts, similar in style to the ones the Duggars wear, costing around 15 bucks, which DON'T cling so tightly that we can see whether the model has an innie or an outie.  There is just no reason that they cannot find maternity tops in the tee shirt styles they favor that fit them properly.  There are also multiple dresses that cost under 40 bucks that would work for them.

http://www.hm.com/us/products/ladies/maternity_wear?s_kwcid=AL!860!10!75041683477605!75041720762010&ef_id=WQ4mXgAAAeKUJVJ7:20170508042330:s

ETA: Google maternity wear at Target, Kohl's, JC  Penney and  every single one has dozens of inexpensive shirts, many like the ones that Duggars favor, except that, in virtually every case, the model is wearing a size or two bigger than theirs.  The Duggars choose to wear maternity clothing that is too small, IMO, to show off their  baby bellies...

I think so. I know geography, date, etc. is t going to be precise or stay the same throughout the entire history of mankind, but mother and infant mortality rate was high for centuries. When the lifespan for women was something like 29-30, it was usually due to pregnancy related issues. Not a statistic I want to bet on, but not like Dumb Ass Jill comprehends statistics - what they mean, how they can be skewed, etc.

Jill was the first to get married and still drunk in the 'save the difference' Koolaid. I doubt if she even looked at non clearance dresses. She was purposefully going for the 'find the cheapest and modify, because we do everything a little differently.....' theme. It's rather sad that it was so ingrained into her that she can never have anything nice or new.

i can't compare Jill to Kate Middleton. Kate has a team of stylists, pretty much unlimited budget, and people clamoring over dressing her. Besides that, she puts the work into staying rail thin and groomed. It's her job. I wouldn't rank her as a reality celeb, but if we have to, she'd be above A list and knock the Duggars down to like the P list.

Also - prettt sure Kate is 5'9 or 5'10 - very close to Diana height. I'm 5'9'' or maybe a hair under, Mr. Razz is 6'2 - same as William (I think). I don't wear shoes as tall as Kate, but she looks almost even with Will in her 3.5-4" heels, which is about right. I could be off a little, but she is taller than 5'7" and Jill. I don't think any of the Duggar girls look that tall, even if that's what she's told the TLC ten years ago.

Back to Jill - she looks less sloppy and thrown together in that pick. Maybe that's he 'dressy church clothes'. These girls plan to spend most of their lives pregnant, so you'd think they have sense to buy some decent maternity clothes. They wear those skin tight tops and their husbands shirts that pertaineth to a man, because they want to. They're being flamboyantly modest and showing off again.

I think that in addition to just being cheap and forcing clothes to stretch out as far into the pregnancy as possible, the Duggar girls just don't see anything at all sexual about pregnant bodies so modesty doesn't enter into it for them.*  And since formfitting clothes has been pretty standard in pregnancy for a while now (I don't know a single pregnant woman this day and age whose maternity wardrobe doesn't consist of a large amount of formfitting tops), they get to almost fit in with the rest of the world. I think there is a bit of showing off the god-ordained pregnancy , of course, but not as much as just them being cheap and lazy.

This is absolutely true. Clingwrap maternity wear is really in right now; the Duggar girls are actually on trend. I just saw a picture of Kailyn Lowry from Teen Mom at the MTV Awards, and you could see everything in her dresssZ55ygW_d.jpg?maxwidth=640&shape=thumb&f

I went to the Instagram that she tagged in the picture, Sew Trendy Accessories, and by far their most popular dresses are made of Lycra/Spandex/Stretch fabric; they have more modest empire waisted dresses but they have fewer likes than the tight everywhere frocks. I saw one dress I quite like for myself but my sister, who has more classic tastes than I do (she also held up Kate as an example of chic modest maternity fashion) said I would look like a sausage waddling around with a Kim K butt lol.

And, unlike me, who was having no more than 2 kids, thus did not want to invest in many maternity clothes...These women will be wearing maternity clothes most of the time for the next 10-20 years.

I sort of wonder whether they "think" this at the conscious level but-- since at an unconscious level they're absolutely dying to feel like looking sexy sometimes (because what human being doesn't?) but mustn't because Duggar -- they allow themselves these pregnancy months to go sexy as all hell. Because given the family philosophy, they have complete deniability for it as long as they're pregnant.

So, you know, every time you're pregnant you do get to have the cake of trying to look like a sexy and desirable person..... And then you have to go back to being a frumpy dumpy looking person who isn't ever allowed to shop for a new outfit and buy it just because it looks cool and pretty and you might look desirable in it.

I mean, nobody can tell me that Jessa doesn't, at at least some level, know perfectly well that her shared pregnancy photos are pregnancy sex-bomb photos. And immodest as all get out. But since she's pregnant, they don't count against her on the modesty-sin list.

I think the same thing about their constantly bare sandaled feet. While mountain climbing or, probably, in the snow at times. The family's whole idiot ethic of modesty forces them to deep-six all their perfectly natural young-woman urges to look and feel pretty and sexy. But since the same family's idiot pronouncement that feet aren't sexy allows you to let those feet hang out, they do it constantly. Probably at the severe risk of frostbite at times. Because it's the only damn outlet they have for their perfectly natural feelings.

Not that any of them allow themselves to realize any of this. .          Because denial, not modesty, is really the chief "virtue" of the Duggar family.

Google told me 5'9", but I had always read 5'10". Always read that Wills was 6'2". When she wore the platform pumps, she was equal to him in height.

Of course, Jill has never worn heels and refused at her wedding because she likes her height difference. I guess she's more submissive looking if she is shorter. I take offense, since I am shorter than pretty much everyone, even in my standard 3" heels. Submissive wife? Uhm, no. I have to do business for my husband when his doctor's office opens in half an hour. We work together as a team with no "head" of the household.

During that cheesy tea party scene, it was revealed that both Jessa and Michelle can sew well, they just chose not to help Jana because they're lazy, spoiled bitches. Poor Jana was slaving away at her sewing machine while everyone else was stuffing their faces and ignoring her.

Maybe. First top looks like it has a band under the boobs, maybe one of those that lifts for nursing. Bottom one looks like it has some pleats. They're very, very similar. They are also not skin tight where you can see every line and curve of her body.

I still don't think those super tight tops are modest, and I've searched online and I know there are options out there. With that said, even though they aren't modest, I think the new way of dressing through a pregnancy is much nicer than those old tents.

I've had two babies in the last three years. Once I hit the middle of the second trimester in both pregnancies, I pretty much only wore flowing and empire waist shirts/blouses/dresses to work & when out & about.  I wore my husband's big t-shirts, oversize pj pants, & oversize athletic shorts at home. I was huge and uncomfortable both times (I had nearly 10lb babies both times), I sweat more when I was pregnant, and I live in the south (and one of my babies was born in July; the other in the fall, so I went through the summer big and uncomfortable). I would have been uncomfortable as heck with visible sweat outlines due to the clingy fabric if I'd worn what these girls wear when pregnant. I know this is the style (more so for them because they're in their 20s and I was in my early 30s) but I just.could.not.  Comfort took priority over everything (and yes, my work maternity wear was comfy but still work-appropriate).  I can't imagine Jill wearing that tight, stretchy material in Central America during the late spring/summer, especially if there's no central A/C.

My feet didn't swell with my first baby, but with my second my feet were pretty swollen by May and into June & July. I can't knock Jill for the flip-flops because 1) swollen feet; 2) she's used to wearing them anyway for most of her life, so I assume her feet are pretty flat, and non-flip-flop shoes are therefore pretty uncomfortable, especially when pregnant, 3) if she's like me, I was hot all the time while pregnant and being in a hot environment doesn't help.

Did you see all the locks on that door behind Derrick?!?

Jill's arms, legs and face look skinny in the pic - but her stomach is HUGE!  She is definitely carrying all in front this time.

RE: the maternity shirts.  Maybe the girls are trying to be as opposite their mom as they can?  Meechelle wore those hideous pregnancy shirts all the time - I hate to say it, but the tight t-shirt is an improvement to me.

I thinks it's due, at least in part, to the fetishization of pregnancy amongst their crowd.

The women are showing off for each other and their men. Look how blessed I am !  Don't be thinking I'm just fat--- I'M EXPECTING!!! Don't I look fabulous!  My man is so proud of knocking me up!

They are a weird crew.  God forbid anyone thinks about sex before marriage -- and God forbid anyone thinks about anything else afterward!

This is THE most cringeworthy picture I have seen. Michelle looks downright uncomfortable. She looks as stiff as a wooden board, and her attempt to fake her expression is wholly unconvincing. Of course, the outfit conforms to typical low standards.

The Duggar girls are too cheap for Target and JC Penny. Walmart has a pretty good selection of maternity dresses and shirts too, but they prefer to wear their usual size small thrift store crap and dollar store flip flops instead of investing in a new wardrobe because they are cheap.

The whole tight tops thing is all Jessa and Jill, Ana never wore them and the Bastes girls sported some pretty stylish maternity outfits. I definitely agree that they dress like that during pregnancy  because it's the only time it's okay for them to wear tight clothes, with their giant breasts and belly pushing through the shirt, and feel sexy. Also showing off bare belly pics is really in and this is their way to show off their bumps without being topless.

WTF? They want people to pay for their vacation from their vacation? How is this remotely ethical or legal? Are they doing any ministering or missionarying in NWA? No? Then don't fucking ask others to pay for it. Literally asking for a paycheck to give birth.

HINT: Use your TLC salary, or nothing at all. People might be more inclined  to give you some shit if you didn't act like stupid, entitied, immature, resentful, lazy, traumatized, greed-headed liars.

Also, anything is possible but I highly doubt a teenage girl had a stroke upon getting bad news, Dr. Jill.  Another medical situation you did jack shit to helgp in.

Bless me with dinner, and serenade me with a violin. I've had it with these people.

That new post from the fake missionaries is disgusting.  This is how it starts: "The aroma of sweaty kids and stinky feet still lingers in the hospitality house."  This is what Jill thinks of the little children she is supposed to be ministering to.  Privileged white American Jill lives with air conditioning (paid for by all of the people who responded to the DONATE button).  Nobody in that community has air conditioning. Of course the kids are sweaty in that very hot and very humid country. And the kids are barefooted, so of course their feet stink (just like Jill's and Jessa's and Izzy's).

But, instead of buying the locals air conditioners and shoes, the Dillards would like you to DONATE more money for their stay in Guatemala and for them to return to Arkansas for the birth of the next baby, because Jill is too good to give birth in the local hospital with the local women.  Not to mention the fact that she'll probably try a homebirth anyway, so what difference should it make if the bed is in Central America or in Arkansas?

Oh, and Jill and Derick would like you to DONATE for their support while they live in Arkansas, where they will not be missionaries to anyone.  Why should you DONATE for this?  Well, just because the Dillards would like to receive your money.
