All I could think of was Stanleyville for FJ and I was pretty sure it wasn't a national capital. (Plus it's no longer called Stanleyville.) I never heard of de Brazza.

Excellent game with no dud players and very few TS's. I knew dowel, Yankee Doodle Dandy, and God Bless the Child.

I liked Christie because she didn't start in the middle or at the bottom of categories.

I agree, Trudeau screamed for a BMS.

I got dowel, Yankee Doodle Dandy, and God Bless the Child.

I really need to study all things African.  I've been saying this for at least a year.  I've never heard of the FJ answer.  *hangs head in shame*

I've heard of Brazzaville, but never would have come up with it in a million years.  I said Stanleyville, too, Stanley being the only person I could think of.

I got dowel, draft and Yankee Doodle Dandy.

Overall a good game -- both boards were cleared!  But of course I rooted for Christie because she started at the tops of the categories.

I third the wish for a BMS on "Trudeau", and I'm especially surprised proud Canadian Alex didn't call him on it.

I'm so glad the dude on the end didn't win. He struck me as humorless and too intense.

The only TS I remember getting is God Bless the Child. Had no clue on FJ; I recognize the name of the city but didn't know the country it's in.

I was screaming YANKEE DOODLE DANDY and GOD BLESS THE CHILD. But they never, ever listen to me. My dog, Magic, used to flee the room when I screamed, but now she merely sighs. Bigly.

Kerry's swaying drove me crazy! Unfortunate FJ wager by Lisette, but she took too long to choose clues and was kind of low energy so I'm good with the outcome. My TS were horses, wind, paratroopers, & Okinawa.

We missed up until the contestant interviews on Thursday due to a newsbreak; the only TS I got was Yankee Doodle Dandy. I was sweating Joe's DD, and was relieved that he knew Tesla.

I didn't get FJ! at all.  I could stand at that podium for a year and not come up with the answer.  Glad Lisette didn't win.  I couldn't deal with her flat affect.

Me too to both. I was thinking something ancient along the lines of the Rosetta Stone or hieroglyphics, and could have done without Dr. Toothbrush's sarcastic, "oh yes, the famous googly eyes hieroglyph", thank you very much.

I am surprised no one has mentioned Lisette's comment about her age. Talking about how long she's played the French horn, she said she "doesn't look" 49, right? Was it a conceited remark, or a failed attempt at self-deprecating humor?

The latter. But she should have said, "haha" or something to make it clear. Her whole demeanor was too low key for her joke to translate.

'Trudeau' really needed a BMS. I was glad that at least 'Bush' required one.

I got it right, but I wonder if they would have accepted "the dad"? Probably not.

My personal BMS moment was years ago. You had to name the Mayor of Chicago (probably who was mayor during the '68 convention) and the contestant answered "Daley". Alex "BMS" and the contestant said "Richard" (which was accepted). Of course, everyone laughed (both Mayor Daleys are named Richard (J. was the senior (correct) one, M. was his son (and mayor at the time of the question)).

Nope, I was being honest.  I know diddly-squat about Herbert Hoover other than he was president.  Maybe the one when the Stock Market Crash hit?  Engineer + president meant nothing to me.  Even the dates didn't help.  Presidential and political categories are the bane of my Jeopardy existence.

I'll confess to answering The Meuse instead of The Marne to that WWI battle question, despite knowing about replacement troops being frantically ferried out to the battle by taxis from Paris, known as the Taxis of the Marne.  D'oh.

Yes, the only things I know about Hoover are: Hooverville (not to be confused with Hooterville) shanty towns, great depression, damn big dam he didn't build, song from Annie.

I COMPLETELY blanked on the name and now know that "that place where they play the Masters" would not have been accepted.  Right when Alex got to whatshisface on the end I blurted out Augusta National.

Augusta Golf Club is WRONG.  I don't care what Alex said.

If you know Davy Jones, you're not too young to know Jerry Lewis FFS.

Miles was making me very anxious.

If I could like that 1000 times, I would.  Totally wrong.  Mind you, I couldn't come up with the correct name for the life of me, getting stuck at "that golf thing in Georgia with the green jacket".  Pretty sure that would have been ruled incorrect as well.

I did learn that "tel" means "hill" -- I had no idea.  I love when I learn something on Jeopardy!

Joe still would have won, even though he got FJ wrong, but still...

I got Jerry Lewis (WTF!?) and tel (I have no idea how I pulled that out of my atrophied brain).

I said Augusta National but didn't say the golf club part.

If the accepted August Golf Club they would except Augusta National which is what it's commonly referred to by. It was an IG for me because much was made about Condoleezza but I wondered if including South Carolina in the clue would throw some people off.

I got all the Shakespeare clues which has got to be a first for me.

Yeah, that threw me off for a second thinking of men's only clubs in South Carolina, but remembered it was a big deal when Condi was allowed in to Augusta National so I went with that.

I can't remember what day it was but they asked the elevator question, and I knew it was Otis.  And the only reason I knew it was Otis is because of a "Prison Break" episode from like 15 years ago.  (It was used in a riddle, something like "on the fourth floor you'll meet Otis Wright".)

'Course if they had given me a BMS I would have said Kit because I had no idea what the guy's first name is.

I couldn't remember the name of the club for the life of me but knew it was in Georgia where they played the Masters. All I could say over and over was, "That disgusting place that refused to allow women as members for freaking ever, the backwards sh*theads!" Maybe they would've accepted that? It's pretty specific!

Totally agree about Davy Jones and Jerry Lewis. Alex hasn't trotted out the old "You're too young to know that," (though that's not exactly what he said but it was implied) in a long time - and it was still as irritating as ever!

Going back a couple of days, I got Hoover because, as mentioned, president + engineer = Hoover, but I was second-guessing myself because the clue said the first chapter was Engineer: 1874-something. That threw me since I knew Hoover was born around 1874 so - he came out of the womb an engineer? Maybe he was a wizard with his blocks? Anyway, that confused me.

And finally, I think Lisette was serious about looking young for her age. She appeared fairly unlined... but the hair was very aging! I know sometimes I will think I look "good" for my age and then tell myself I'm only kidding myself. I think it's maybe a way of thinking about ourselves that we can fall into, regardless of the reality! Lol!

I got Jerry Lewis, Tel, & Howard Carter (missed DD). I am surprised that Miles missed that since his knowledge seemed well-rounded. FJ was an instaget for Dr. Toothbrush, but I would have never gotten it.

Agree to both. I would think that Jerry Lewis is more mainstream than Davy Jones, but perhaps Dean threw them off? Miles was very frenetic & made me nervous!

So true. I can't stand when Alex makes that lame excuse for contestants!

I took an instant dislike to the woman at the end whose first response was "Hemingway". Girl, please.

For FJ I just said "Augusta", fearing additional words would do me in. According to Alex, I would have been OK but it seems like Alex has been slipping lately with the YES! I mean NO! corrections.

My fragile nerves wouldn't have been able to take another game of Miles.

Alex has been slipping. Was it yesterday's game when he quickly ruled Macbeth correct and then had to wake up and say no, sorry and then someone else said Hamlet? (Not sure that these were the answers which were actually given, but it was two Shakespeare-related answers.)

Also, IMHO, the FJ responses should be totally complete to be ruled correct. I mean, my gosh, it's Final Jeopardy where a contestant has a chance to win or lose big bucks. Responses should include first and last names, complete titles or complete names of places. For me, the only correct response was Augusta National Golf Club. They've had book or movie titles that were "almost" correct but ruled incorrect so why accept Augusta Golf Club? Sure, everyone knew what the contestant was referring to, but still!

I didn't know which of The Monkeys was the right one. How was Davy the obvious choice?

I loved the Jeopardy commercial where they say you can win a tie from Alex's closet, and you see Alex pulling out a tie and saying, "Go, my child. Be happy."

In Friday nite's show (which I saw tonight), I only got Jerry Lewis and Macbeth. I also got FJ, though I said August Golf Club, which was accepted on the show BUT NOT HERE. ;) Anyway, I knew I didn't get the name quite right.

I think, if I am remembering correctly, that it was the Mancurian category and Davy is the only one who fits because he is the only one from England.

I get what you're saying, but I'm okay with the Augusta ruling. Like you said, everyone knew what they were saying, and it wasn't ambiguous.

If they're asking for a specific title, I do agree that it should be complete. But the Augusta ruling was fine with me. I said Augusta National because I couldn't remember if it was Country Club or Golf Club. I hate golf, so the fact that I knew the Augusta National part was surprising enough to me!

Miles was stressing me the hell out. I'm sure he's a nice guy, but I definitely didn't want him to win.

Now there's something I didn't know. I know very little about the Monkees, and I love when this board teaches me something I may need for future reference. Thank you for that.

Now if one of you can get me to stop confusing Sinclair Lewis with Upton Sinclair and Monet with Manet I'll really be in business.

The last time a clue called for Upton Sinclair, I actually got it right, mainly by saying the exact opposite of what I thought was the answer.

I have a list of "Oh no. It's 'the other one'"---Upton Sinclair/Sinclair Lewis, Monet/Manet, Brigham Young/Joseph Smith, UCLA/USC, Thoreau/Emerson. I'm sure there are others. No matter which one I say, it's always "the other one". Even if I do the "I want to say this, so I'll say that instead, it turns out I should have said this.

Ooops, I said Orient Express, too -- didn't even think of the Trans-Siberian Railway.

I was surprised by some of the clues they missed and I got, though -- Last of the Mohicans, end run, Nebraska, Fort Ticonderoga, and especially King George and Cherokee.  I was glad that they revised middle guy's score after he left out a word in that weird category with words out of order.

Aw, Alex, do you think women are so terribly distracting just by existing that Joe couldn't possibly be able to study for Law School if he lived with them?

Yes. This was a prime example of why you shouldn't jump to the bottom clue in a new category. I had no idea what to think about a possible answer.

I had noted Buzz leaving out the "and", so I'm glad the judges caught up with me. :)

I got The Last of the Mohicans and Cherokee. I got King George, but I didn't get the III.

I was surprised when Chantelle said "Wogner" for Wagner. I thought everyone knew how to pronounce it.

Exactly!!!!

I felt like I knew nothing in the Jeopardy round, but was totally on fire for Double Jeopardy. Was it easier, or just the luck of categories?

Less than a week ago, I got "permission" from a librarian friend to quit reading Naked Lunch because I hated it so, so much. So I definitely knew that answer! I stuck it out for quite a while, because I could tell Burroughs was a talented writer, but I just couldn't enjoy being grossed out!
