  1. Not only is Sondheim not dead - 👏🏻 for his upcoming birthday 😄 - he’s not a playwright.
  2. I hate this song, too... SO MUCH. The worst part is the sorta cockney accent the singer has... 1) tired of hearing British accented people on my tv. Particularly commercials. 2) it’s so bad and cheesy that I imagine that it’s a song from Daphne’s (from Frasier) tv show from when she was younger, “Mind Your Knickers” (anyone remember this throwaway line from a 20-year old sitcom)? The song has such an awful 80s sound to it, too... all electronic keyboards and drum machines...Ugh! I also really hate hearing the newish Nestle commercial, “Well, this... was ... unexpected.” The woman just sounds so horribly brittle... I mean, she really sounds like she‘s going to ask to speak to the manager! I’ve only started seeing this commercial and, frankly, Nestle, I think it’s too late and you should let it go...
  3. I considered Jefferson City, too, but didn’t really like it because what president is buried there? As for worst guess, I think you’re being too hard on yourself. I thought Lincoln was not really a good answer at all. Lincoln wasn’t named for the relative of a president; it was named for the president so I discarded pretty quickly. I also thought of Madison but dropped that too. Basically I had no guess.🤗 If Ohio isn’t the Midwest, what is it?
  4. Adding my thanks to your efforts at j-archive, WhoIsMark! I also remember never getting to present day events in History. But I learned about these things anyway, through reading, movies, tv shows... Being interested and digging down when I heard about something that caught my interest. I think that’s what I don’t accept from this crop of contestants. The ignorance seems more pronounced now than previously (tv - ha!). Also, thank you, Sabre, for correcting my memory of the Mississippi question! So Missouri wasn’t as terrible guess, but still...
  5. It’s occurred to me, after watching the last few weeks, there’s an appalling (to me) lack of knowledge about the 20th century on the part of these “younger” people. And by younger I mean people in their 20s and 30s... Witness the Hinckley TS. George Wallace. Love Story... Not even knowledge of popular culture. It’s making for some really awful games. And what’s with the enormous number of triple stumpers lately anyway? Seriously, no one could guess steakhouse after chophouse was guessed? With the word ‘beef’ in the clue?! No one could guess Mississippi as the river under the St. Louis Arch - after the terrible answer of Missouri? I almost can’t bear to watch anymore! I find myself skipping the show and going to the archive because otherwise I just yell at the tv all the time! Thank you for allowing this rant from a lurker. 😀
  6. Well, Marilyn Monroe imagined she was Clark Gable’s daughter... It seemed a little plausible to me, that an orphan imagines fantasy parents. 🤗 I’m not saying this isn’t an annoying episode - I can’t believe Dorothy and Blanche don’t try for someone else after Rose tells them about “her father”, Bob Hope.
  7. I think I’m over this Teachers Tournament and I almost never sit out any games. I’ve also found it boring (except for Teebax - and I mean that sincerely!) and, more than that, I have no more patience for the boneheaded wrong answers and enormous number of too-simple-to-be-believed triple stumpers. And aside from that, the majority of the questions are mortifyingly simple - I mean, I’d be horrified (and offended) if I was a teacher and those are the questions I was given to respond to.
  8. You’re welcome. 😀 I hadn’t heard of it so thank you for bringing it to my attention! I’d forgotten about the Ed Koch answer - oof, that struck me as pretty bad! Coming on top of the blown double jeopardy, it seemed like a sign of bad things to come. I was glad to see James come out of it but I know one day he won’t and someone will be able to capitalize on those types of mistakes.
  9. Dubai: https://mymodernmet.com/dubai-frame-opening/ On topic: I really enjoy watching James. I think the figure skating analogy is an excellent one.
  10. Oops, I forgot to finish my thought: I thought it was all the handling of the “omelette” that was a big reason the judges didn’t want to eat Laura’s. But rawness would also count!
  11. This (above) is one BIG reason I thought Laura’s omelette. Joe won with the wings and Brother did the fry bread. Re Laura and the editing: Given what HunterHunted has told us re the line producers, I wish they’d stop playing up the “I miss my child so much” weepy woman angle. That women = mothers dynamic really plays into the devaluation of women in professional environments. On the other hand, I’m glad she’s gone because I couldn’t stand seeing her necklace outside of her collar and who tells their 10 year old (or so), “I’ve had an emotional day”?
  12. Sorry, not sure how to edit: it was when Ricky’s young dance partner came to the US and Lucy wanted to get rid of her.
  13. I heard this commercial once or, maybe, twice before it hit me that this is a song that Desi does in one of the shows - which one I can’t place, but I know it was a good one because I thought this was one of his better numbers (although I am one who actually enjoys hearing the songs). Anyone remember? I’ll try to research.
  14. I’ve noticed the same thing, Christina. I’m disappointed that she seems very uncomfortable and not very knowledgeable. Alton even chided her during a battle that he didn’t know something because “Jamie didn’t tell me that.” I hope she grows into it. I don’t remember Kevin when he first started - maybe he was also hesitant?
  15. I think Liz would be cool with them still showing her. She would understand it. She was a newer old-school star and I think would appreciate that she would still be considered a good marketing image. ( Although I say this after being somewhat creeped out by seeing the commercial!).
