The Duggars: In the Media and TLC

Guest

As a reminder, the site's Politics Policy remains in effect.  Yes, Jim Bob is apparently running for office again. That does not make it an acceptable topic of conversation in here - unless for some mysterious reason, TLC brings the show back and it is discussed on there. Even then, it would be limited to how it was discussed on the show.

If you have any questions, please PM the mods, @SCARLETT45 and myself.

I stayed pure for you. There was a situation (tm) in my teens, but it's over now.

Well, it was your TEENS, which is basically the same as infancy in terms of being able to tell right from wrong. The important thing is that you were spiritually saved at the age of four, right? So it doesn't matter, as long as your congregation forgave you and the statute of limitations has run out. Now get over here and allow me to side-hug/hover arm your well-covered shoulders.

Just curious, why aren't there any reruns of J&JCO? I don't really know how  TV contracts/ratings stuff works but I know you guys do.

I think this is where the TLC goldmine is and that this new series and time is their way of letting thinks calm down so that they can go back to re-running the heck out of the old shows.

You've won my heart. Except for the part with the fortress. And the piece I sold to the hookers.

This item appeared yesterday in the alt.gossip.celebrities Google newsgroup:

Quote

Cameras should try and be there when the only Duggar I like finally bails on her family and elopes with the guy she has been seeing online for months. The family would like her continued indentured servitude.
Jana Duggar

I hope for Jana's sake that it's true.

Someone, please fill me in: who/what is/was AGC?

Totally OT, but back in the olden days of the interwebs, Usenet was a bulletin board system that was much like Reddit, or rather Reddit is much like Usenet used to be - bare bones structure (by default back then, figure it was '94 when I first started going out on Usenet on my AOL newsreader), pretty much anonymous, topics on anything and everything under the sun.  It was pretty much the Wild Wild West back then, no moderators, no one to answer to, really no way of tracking anyone other than their IP address.  Noobs were hazed, flamewars were spectacular, and there were basically no rules.  Alt.gossip.celebrities was one of the many star gossip communities - and yes, they were communities much like we are a community - and alt.showbiz.gossip were a couple of the best for actual insider information and accurate blind items.  If I recall properly, AGC was first but then there was a huge schism after one poster got arrested for stalking Heidi Klum and ASG sprung up in its wake or vice versa.  But yeah, it predated TWOP.  You needed a newsreader to access it so I paid for an Altavista subscription.  But it was totally, totally anonymous.  Then 9/11 happened and internet security became a thing and Google bought Altavista and the lag to read and reply to posts pretty much killed it.  Everyone moved over to fully built HTML bulletin boards like TWOP.

Hope it's not a catfisher!

Me too! Can you only imagine what Boob would say/do about THAT? I can see many trips to Journey to the Heart  to make Jana "pray that away!"

This would give them all a new level of confidence that any of them could defraud anyone anywhere! Think of all the "controls" Boob and Mattress would have to put in place to prevent "same sex defraudment".

Sorry, mods. I think that was my fault, as I asked a question that generated all these posts.

Anyhoo...back on topic. The Duggettes put out a desperate plea on social media to save their show.

News flash: Jill and Jessa, you had no interesting footage in your pilot, except for Spurgie's arrival. For this season, you recycled your births and weddings and 19KAC footage.  We already know your story, because you're all over social media telling us every time you poop.  If you want us to watch you, have at least one of you escape, and even your most rabid haters would cheer you on!

Watching yet another season of their boring, humorless, stunted, smug, and self righteous existence does not inspire anyone except the leg humping Duggar Huggers to be  excited about their show.

Well I'm in the camp that thinks Jill's incredibly insensitive "Cathy's 90 YO bio Mom" info tweet was intended to draw out wider family members for an even slightly less boring storyline than normal for this show. Whether that means they are desperately trolling for stories to convince TLC to renew or desperately trying to come up with storylines for the already renewed show when no one is pregnant or courting is anyone's guess. Because if they have been renewed and its another season of no babies, no courtship and recaps then even the leghumpers will get bored and the ratings are in the crapper right now.

The ratings were actually fine, although they did tail off for that last episode. I don't have the inclination to do the actual math, but several of the episodes were around 1.3 million, but the last episode was around 1.1MM. They did start off higher, but if I had to guess on the average, I'd go with that 1.3MM mark. Again, that's not bad for cable.

But I agree, if the Duggars have nothing to offer other than Joy going to Danger America and Jer graduating from ALERT (both recycled plotlines), the leghumpers will get restless. I guess they could show Ben at his computer "going to school." And how many times can we see Jessa bounce Spooge on her knee? Snore.

I know this article is some days old, but it posits an interesting theory about Boob being the mastermind behind the hashtag campaign to bring the Duggars back a few weeks ago. And how spectacularly it failed. LOL
