Hope it was worth it because the articles I've read that cite republican internal polling are grim. Today Paul Ryan basically told the Congress worry about yourselves, forget DJT.

If Heilman and Halperin don't have a chapter in their 2016 Election book about the real deal behind the scenes at Morning Joe it will be a waste.

Man, I'd love a Morning Joe chapter in the new book. The Romney/Obama book was super lame because no one in either camp would leak anything. This book is going to be excellent. Trump and Hillary's teams are going to leak like crazy.

I guess perspective is everything because I didn't see last night's debate (or Debate #1) at all like Mika or Joe.

Mika said that Hillary was on the defensive. Really? Was she? She seemed steely and determined and much calmer than I was just watching the damn thing. She didn't under-smile or over-smile as she had been accused of in past debates, she wasn't shrill (again, another bullshit accusation), she was respectful of the audience and the moderators, and she refrained from picking up her chair and bashing it across Trump's head. All in all...I think it was a stellar performance.

Trump clearly has some nasal issues; I sympathize...I was sniffling more than he. He needs to call Dr. Oz for a remedy. He interrupted Hillary, whined at the moderators like the spoiled toddler he is, he refused to give straight answers to the questions asked, he frowned, mumbled many of his responses into his microphone (it worked!) and Lord help him...he is STILL claiming not to have supported the war. So he is being hailed as the winner just because he showed up?

I expected someone on the panel to address some of the claims that were made last night. Can the president appoint a special prosecutor with the specific intention of taking down his political opponent? He and Pence haven't discussed Syria? What the fuck have they been talking about, then? Does he know where Mosul is?

Lastly, Mika has a very gracious and well practiced statement that she wants Hillary to say regarding Bill's infidelities, and her decision to stay in the marriage. I thought Hillary did that back in '98. I may be wrong, please let me know if I am. Mika needs to work on her own statement justifying why she stays with Joe, 'cause that's a mystery to many of their viewers.

She said something about it obliquely in her first autobiography after Clinton had left office but I think that was it, something about the only people qualified to speak about the state of the marriage are the two people in it.The only thing she said in 1998 was that there was a fast right-wing conspiracy making up these charges against her husband. She was right about the conspiracy, but wrong about the veracity of the allegations.

I didn't get to see it this morning but please, please tell me that someone brought up that  Tic Tacs issued a statement over the weekend disavowing the Trump video and stating that Tic Tacs respect women. And, with Skittles, that makes 2 candy companies that have had to get involved in this Presidential election. Unprecedentedly ridiculous!

Whatever the fuck?  They have kids on set and this is going on?  Joe bullies Donnie Deutsche, who is a bazillionaire in the ad biz, an actual marketing genius who is making a point and bang on about it.  Bless Yamiche for saying it out loud finally - the sudden outrage from all these Republicans is that this time, this time, it was a white woman.

I'm gonna have a heart attack before this election, I swear.  And I'm still in shock about what I witnessed last night, and I'm so ashamed of my country I've actually cried.

Ahhhh, but here's the difference..it was an attractive white woman, who was thin.  Apparently, Trump has a visceral aversion to fat women despite whatever he sees when he looks at himself in the mirror every morning.  I totally agree about the hypocrisy of these GOP defectors, who are clutching their pearls NOW.  Meanwhile, they had no problem following Trump off of a cliff and taking the rest of us with them so long as he confined his insults and attacks to Muslims, "the African Americans" (who all apparently live in inner cities), "the Latinos," the physically challenged, and others.  He is the man that they all knew, and I would even venture to guess that he is the man that Melania has always known.  I'm also sure that if Trump's poll numbers were better, they would still be hanging in there with him.  Now, it's every man and woman for himself.

All I could think was, look into the light, Meek-a!  Look into the light!  Now that I have your attention, blink twice if you are being held against your will.  Otherwise, I can think of no other reason for your behavior this morning.  Every woman who was fool enough to buy those bird cage liners you call books, should demand an immediate refund.

I have been reading commentary from women all day who had a visceral reaction to Trump's attempts at intimidation last night, starting with that cheap stunt he and his team tried to pull by inviting Bill's women to the debate.  His large body looming over Secretary Clinton while she talked.  He was clearly playing to his supporters, who lowered the bar so much where Trump "won" when he said he would send Secretary Clinton to jail.

My suspicions about Joe and Meek-a were only heightened by their performance this morning.  Anytime Nicole (Nicole!!) looks as if she's ready to slap a bitch, you know something is rotten in Denmark. What in the world does Trump have on Joe and Meek-a, and what in the world did he promise them?

Interestingly enough MSNBC had GOP party/electoral college specialist attorney Ben Ginsburg on before the debate to discuss this. Bottom line - it's tricky. We vote for electors in the electoral college, who pledge to vote for a nominee. So it depends on the electors agreeing to vote for a party-designated nominee, but that's like herding cats.  Too bad *this* show didn't discuss this kind of stuff. It's an interesting and nuanced issue. And we all here are a perfect audience for it, dare I say!

Yes. Occasionally, Electors go rogue & don't vote for the party nominee.

I haven't been listening closely to the show this morning - which is a good thing because I don't need blood pressure spikes so early in the morning - but all I've head is Joe bellowing about how the polls are unfair and that Trump is still going to win this thing. Total idiocy. There have been lots of clips from Trump's rally statements sliming Hillary and his crowds going crazy but not one single world about Hillary's blockbuster day on the campaign trail giving two boffo speeches to huuuuuuge crowds at Ohio State and Detroit. Heavens no, can't have anything positive about Hillary, just repetitions of Republican lies and insults. Tennis is on the other channel and it's calling me.

Tuesday Recap:

Joe is wearing a navy blue blazer with a striped shirt. Mika is wearing a a white shirt with black floral skirt.  Joe was upset that the Red Sox lost. Joe said big Papi was a HOF player. Barnicle waxed poetically about Big Papi. Joe & Mika were furious that NBC did a poll on Friday & Saturday during the Trump tape crisis. Joe said it makes Trump look bad. Later on, the Politico poll after the debate said it was 42-37 for Hillary. Joe said there were no polls after the first debate.

Joe said Wikileaks could hurt Hillary.

The theme of the day is "Is the race over?". Heileman, Halperin & Barnicle said Yes. Heileman said an Exogenous event could hurt Hillary.

Joe said the campaign is not over. Mika said Hillary found her voice.

Heileman was upset that Pittsburgh QB supports Trump. He was accused of sexual assault. Heileman doesn't like Rothlesburger.

Most of the panel thinks the Senate will turn Democratic & the House could as well.

They discussed Paul Ryan.

Joe said the GOP weasels should stop running from Trump.

Joe bragged that he did not endorse Trump.

Trump will have at least 35% of the vote. Mika hates Ted Cruz & said he sounds like nails on chalkboard.

Joe did not know that Medicare can not negotiate drug prices?? Please tell me this is fake outrage. Where was Mr. Politics in 2003 when the Medicare D plan was wrestled into place??.

Gah! Well, at least he's letting others unfamiliar know the situation.

Unbelieveable.

I was lulled by the guest talking about the issue and all of a sudden Joe just erupted. I did like that Barnicle (?) had phone numbers for people to call and voice their opinions. I think Joe was handed some to read too. So there's that.

Welp, and back to how great Trump is doing considering how low his numbers were last Friday. woowoo

Whew. I was worried we might get some real information there for a moment.

I am very grateful that the show covered the story about that dried prune Ruth Bader Ginsberg as privileged at best, racist at worst, for her comments on Kaepernick. How the multimillionaire widow of Ross Perot's tax attorney ever became some pop culture heroine with this Notorious RBG crap eludes me. Of course the panel just loves her and didn't criticize them, but hey, they're all wealthy and white.

I wish the show and the media and general would not cover the debate questioner with the red sweater because I'm not sure where the coverage ends and the ridicule begins.

There have been long-time rumors that Trump wants to have his own tv network....to the point that Roger Ailes has been brought on as an "advisor"...birds of a feather and all that.  Does anyone wonder if Joe has been promised his own show and a big voice on said maybe network?  Just picturing Ailes gives me the shudders...add in Trump and Joe...you have an outlet for sexism, misogny, and bullying.  Winning?  Looks like Faux will have competition; it may force them to be an actual news outlet.  Naaah.

Also...never noticed that "Koch Industries" is a sponsor.

Having just read the excellent Gabriel Sherman bio of Roger Ailes, I was reminded how hard it was, believe it or not, to get cable companies to carry Fox News when it started out. They even had to sue Time Warner to get it covered in NYC. And back then, Fox News was just slightly right of center. It's just hard to start up a news channel.

I think many cable companies - a lot of them public corporations - may be loath to carry Trump TV. Scarborough would be stupid to jump. Plus, what would they think of him in Nantucket? Seriously he has a lot of friends and support among the NBC family - the Welches, Robert Wright, etc.

I was barely paying attention this morning and they were discussing why Hillary doesn't open up to the people and show a little vulnerability.  Among the cross talk, one of the guests mentioned that she has in the past, but it has bitten her and she pulled back. He then tries to close with the old Washington saying of "just because you're paranoid" - Joe blerts "it means you are" - "doesn't mean they aren't out to get you".

Thanks Joe.

Joe's meltdown is on Twitter. "NBC is cooking these polls to get the numbers they want - why not take the poll after the debate?"

He's mad, (even tho he loves NBC and loves working there and really loves them and has always loved them and did he mention he loves them), that they took a poll this weekend before the debate.

Or, Joe, maybe they're going to take another poll this week?  CTFD

Wow! Republican Steve Deace on MSNBC sez Joe Scar turned his show into a Trump PAC

Tamaron quoted Scar as saying he still thought Trump had a chance to win, which elicited a laugh from Deace.

"I hear you laughing. Do you think this is over, Steve?" asks Tamaron.

"No, I'm laughing at Joe Scar, who turned his show into a Pac For Trump for six months and is one of the people who got us (the Rs) into this predicament."

The ratings for the debate were down significantly from the first one. I don't think the debate mattered nearly as much as the Access Hollywood video itself. His apology was pathetic and most people will never be able to unhear or unsee that. So yeah, sorry Joe, but he's going down and the debates don't matter at all anymore. In fact, I think they should cancel the last one. Trump has demeaned the entire process and Hillary shouldn't have to suffer the indignity of simply trying to keep her cool next to a man whose only interest is in degrading and humiliating her, not engaging in any kind of real discussion. It's pathetic. He's turned it into a freakshow and I don't think he should be indulged any longer.

Those of us who watched the show this morning heard Mika describing the poll showing Clinton enjoying a 7-point swing this morning as "good news"; her "script", if it is that, is pro-Clinton, and has been at least during the summer.

Hellman had the best reaction to that poll tizzy. He said that polling before the debate would yield interesting data, and that polling after the debate (which no doubt happened and will be released shortly)would yield interesting data too. And then you could compare the numbers and see the effect of the debate. Duh. Who doesn't want more data? My view was Joe was carrying on for the drama. His constant screaming during Sachs' segment indicates that he was "on" this morning.

Let's put those crowds in perspective here. Hillary got 18.5K at OSU. Obama got 60K at the same location. Hillary got the biggest crowds of her campaign, but they are pathetic for any Dem presidential candidate. Kerry had much bigger rallies by this point and lost. Trump regularly got bigger rallies until recently.

That said, Joe was nuts this morning. He basically ordered Heilmann off the set for not agreeing with his stupid unskewing narrative this morning. He totally acted like a complete deranged lunatic. He can't believe that Trump and his party are going to get their ass kicked in November.

MSNBC needs a complete overhaul of this show and to fire Joe. He's lost the plot and gotten so arrogant that he is driving off panelists.

And I'd imagine that Chuck Todd and the heavys at NBC are pissed that Joe is tearing down their own poll.

Wasn't the argument made (by Halperin or Heilemann) that the NBC/WSJ poll stayed in the field through yesterday (an extra day- reporting out twice)?  Didn't that get repeated to Joe a few times?  (I kept waking up and falling asleep this morning.)  I hope that is true, because I really wanted data from the tape - and data from the debate, separately.  I think it's important as a measure so we can distinguish effects from each event.

I still haven't decided if Joe is actually a true believer, or if he is so invested in the horse race (and ratings they bring) that he can't see straight.  Whatever his motivations, based on the comments, he and Meek-a have set themselves up for ridicule yet again.

If anything, he should be beyond outraged that the racehorse he invested in is willing to take his beloved GOP down with him.

I haven't totally lost it yet so I distinctly remember the pro-Romney crowd, including Joe, marveling at Mitt's rally crowds and how many people were coming out to see him right before the election. That doesn't mean anything, especially in Trump's case. People are coming to see the circus and curse out Hillary, bonding  with their fellow "deplorables."

Can one of you please break down for me what Scarborough's point was this morning?  Was it: It doesn't matter if Trump is vulgar, because Bill Clinton cheated on Hillary Clinton?
He furiously interrupted Anand Giridharadas when Giridharadas made mention of Trump's vulgarity.  And then he ranted, nearly standing up out of his chair leaning over the table.  He was very angry.  I muted it, because I just cannot with him when he gets like that.

The guy out of studio who wrote a bio of Hillary (I think that's why he was there, anyway), was really interesting during those final segments.  Strangely, Joe treated him with human-level deference even though the author pushed the narrative that Hillary Clinton is actually a person just like all of us and not a living breathing conspiracy theory and the most evil political robot in the history of pant suits.  As the author spoke, I kept expecting Joe to have a mental break and attack him verbally.
