As for Halperin - he and Heilman wrote a smug book called "How to Win" in 2007 by which they came up with some "rules" by which a candidate could win. The next year Obama ran a campaign that was the complete opposite of their insider-y proclamations and the rest is history. Never been able to take him seriously after that. Hes best left to play smirky gossip and write his little slam books every four years.

I am so sick of all things Halperin that I get kind of rage-y whenever I hear or see him.  His smirks always come at a Clinton's expense.  He needs a "Hey, FAUX, where's my job offer?" chiron in front of his face at all times.

Harold Ford's a regular now? Halperin. ugh And Nicole and Steele. This early?

Joe's hair seems toned down. Is there more gray? He's got a lotta forehead. I prefer the jacket-no-tie to the fleece.

At least they've got a lot to work with. Even though Joe has managed to talk over everyone.

Mika's in France? Great. She can report in on KimK.

In the first block, Joe lamented loudly that there was only one poll for the period after the debate, the FOX one that had Hillary up 49 to 44%. but then the next panels were all about how Drumpf can't lose.  And Halperin let out a "scoop" that the ReThugs think they have some brand new dirt on the Clintons that the're going to drop before the town hall.  Wha????

Wait whaaa?

It's not yet 7:00am and they have NYTimes guy David Barstow on? He just wrote the Trump tax exposé/story of the week? And he's on for less than 5 minutes? Maybe others have him booked.

They are all praying for that magic weapon to wipe Mrs. C. out.  So silly.. Voting is happening as we speak.

The work to win is more than headlines, it's boots on the ground getting YOUR voters to the polls.. Without that, Trump is lost.  He was lost from the start.

There are whole shows where Barnicle speaks one sentence, anyone notice that?

I'm not a fan of Halperin but I do enjoy John Heilemann.  When I get to a place that I really want to throw a shoe at the teevee machine about something that Halperin says, I try to get my zen back remembering that time last year when even Halperin told Me-eka and Joe that they were being ridiculous in their Hillary hate-a-thon one morning.

I don't know what time Rassmussen posted this, but the right leaning survey has Clinton up by 3 points, attributing it to the debate.  I suspect that Joe wouldn't want to acknowledge this, because tRump has generally lead in this survey.  Looks really bad when the Democrat is up in a Rassmussen poll.

So I tuned in this morning expecting to see the panel finally admit that Trump has completely lost his mind and has no chance in this election. Silly me!  Trump just had the worst week in presidential campaign history and what does Joe say? Meh, it probably won't move the polls. Nobody cares.  I was reminded of a quote from the American President where Annette Bening's character says "On election day people give a damn about what i tell them to give a damn about THAT is why I have a job!" The media has completely abdicated their responsibility to the American people to sift through the wheat and the chaff and tell people what is important in this election. Trump is having a total mental breakdown on live television and Joe and Halperin act like it's no big deal. Trump paid no taxes for 20 years and lost almost 1 billion dollars and Joe says it's not a problem for Trump because the system is rigged. Will Trump have to actually take a swing a Hillary in the next debate for Joe to finally admit that Trump is unfit for the presidency?

I actually missed Mika this morning because she seems to be the only one on the regular panel who sees how unstable Trump really is.

I LOL'd at that. Joe needs polls! There are daily polls done by the LA Times which show Trump leading by 5 points. The RCP polls are updated daily. Joe's obsession with polls is hilarious. I think Joe is waiting for a poll to fit his narrative that Trump is winning , or that the debate didn't matter.

I found it interesting that Kornacki & Eilse Jordan were discussing Trump's strength in Iowa & Wisconsin. They said that the key number was % of non college whites. It was 54% in Iowa & 36 % in Wisconsin. Elise thinks that Trump will win Wisconsin & North Carolina.

Halperin was upset about how easy the NY Times received Trump's tax return in the mail. Halperin was upset that the NY Times thinks that Trump could have avoided taxes for 18 years.

I am an accountant, & I know that the loss could be carried back 3 years or forward for 15 years as an offset to any income Trump earned subsequent to 1995.

The NY Times writer assumed Trump's revenues from other sources was stable from 1995-2010. Is that possible?

I assume Trump would have made more money as the real estate markets improved. He also made money from the Apprentice 2004-2015.

Joe was well dressed today!. He is wearing a blazer. Mika was off today. I wonder if Joe is meeting his secret informers after the show.

The panel discussed the success of Portman in Ohio, Ayotte & Toomey in PA. They are doing better than Trump.

Joe said they could help the Trump votes if the people vote straight GOP on the ballott. How easy is it to do that?

Joe blamed Hillary for saying that Portman was a reasonable Republican unlike Trump.

Ford or someone else, said the plan was to convince the elite GOP that they should vote for Hillary & prevent Trump from winning.

Joe & Steele said that the AEI , Free Trade loving GOP isn't going to win the states that the GOP needs to get 270 electoral votes.

Joe said the GOP would be happy keeping the Senate & House & let Hillary run the country for 4 years.

Cackles & Elise were excited that Dorothy Rabinowitz endorsed Hilary!. Cackles said she stopped feding her child & let her husband do it because she was so excited about Dorothy Rabinowitz supported Hillary. She is a famous conservative. I have never heard of her.

Joe was outraged at having to pay 55% tax. He wished he didn't pay tax like Trump. Joe was mad that he didn't own a jet or a golf course.

Joe was upset that the Real Estate Lobby & Hedge Fund Lobby had low tax rates on the money they earned.

Cackles was upset at Trump making fun of Hillary's pneumonia.

Michael Steele said the GOP has a RINO section & a Conservative section.

Kornacki said Trump could win 1 Electoral Vote in Main & possible 2 more if he gets enough votes.

Joe & Stuart Stevens said the Clinton ground game is stronger than Trump's. The RNC does have a GOTV campaign for the Senate & Congress.

Stevens said Obama succeeded in getting early votes. Romney was close to being tied with Obama on Election Day but lost by 4 points.

Robert Costa said that Trump was preparing for the Town Hall debate. Halperin said Trump will repeat the questioner's names at the Town Hall. The panel laughed that no one can control Trump.

Joe made fun of Trump complaining about his microphone in the first debate.  Hallie Jackson said that the debate commission agreed that his microphone was defective but it didn't affect the tv reception.

Elise Jordan said she couldn't vote for Gary Johnson because he didn't know much about world affairs.

The NYT reporters were on Stephanopoulos yesterday and he spent 5 minutes with them. I think it's because there are some things they can't talk about bexause Trump has threatened legal action.

Today's ENTIRE show - except for an 8:55 but on the NY Mag piece on Trump - was about Trump's tax returns. And Dorothy Rabinowitz's WSJ op-ed on the importance for voting for Clinton. And Trump's lack of ground game. Nary a mention of Clinton referring to Sanders' supporters living in their parents' basement.

If this show is in the tank for Trump they have an odd way of showing it.

I missed the first part of the show. I am surprised they didn't mention Hillary's basement dwellers comments about Sanders supporters.

In the past, Joe made fun of basement bloggers that eat Cheetos in their underwear & make critical comments about his show.

I would think Joe does well with cereal eating fleece wearers. Joe is the only cable host that has crumbs on his clothes while he is on the air.

If they mentioned Hillary's comments about Sanders' supporters, they would also have to talk about Bernie's statement saying she was right. If you listen to the comments in context, she was talking about kids who take out huge student loans to finish college and then can't get jobs that pay enough to pay them back. Bernie agreed!

I think it's probably because that remark was taken out of context, and because Sanders agreed with Clinton.  It's been snuffed out as an issue, except by those that want to create a fauxtroversy.  In context, Clinton was bemoaning the fact that kids of the recession are graduating university and ending up with jobs as baristas, unable to get the jobs that they expected and are overburdened with college debt.

They could have played the audio - Way Too Early show did - and let the listener decide. I heard a fair amount of snickers from the donors on the comment. Bernie is a good soldier and doing all he can to make sure Trump isn't elected. But completely ignoring the story is an odd editorial choice - MTP did a segment on it this weekend - and if this show was as anti-Clinton as some maintain, it would have been a gimme.

Did this happen in the last week? Or month?  If not probably why they didn't bring it up.

The comments were made in the late winter/early spring, but the audio just emerged this weekend (Saturday?)

That's true. I listened to the whole tape & her comments make more sense. I thought it has become funny that it has become common in US political discussion to refer to a segment of the electorate as "basement dwelling cheetos eating bloggers".

If a blogger eats organic food from Whole Foods, does that make them a Democrat?

There isn't as much emphasis of different segments of the electorate in Canadian politics. The USA seems to micro target every member of the electorate.

Joe doesn't think anybody cares about Trump and his non payment of taxes. Plenty of people care and if they were going to vote for the moron they will change their mind and show the billionaire that he won't have their vote.

There is nothing more pitiful than self-delusion.  Joe probably wishes plenty of people didn't care.  I can assure him that if the comments section of the New York Times and Washington Post articles about Drumpf's tax problems are any indication, people do, indeed, care about this issue.  Not to mention Drumpf's ongoing refusal to release those doggone tax returns and his arrogant family's attempts to justify it.

That could explain why Ghouliani, Gingrich and Drumpf's other surrogates have been blathering practically non-stop about the Clintons' marriage and Secretary Clinton's response to her husband's cheating.  Anything to distract from this serious issue as well as the so-called foundation which wasn't even certified to accept funds and which was apparently used as a slush fund to pay personal expenses.  Joe's outrage about his own tax rate and wishing that he didn't have to pay taxes like Drump tells me everything I need to know.

Joe said he was in favour of a minimum tax on Billionaires. Joe was upset that Warren Buffett's tax rate was lower than his.

Wasn't that an issue in reforming the tax code in 2012? I remember the maximum tax rate was raised to 39.6 % from 35%.

MTP tapes at the same time as This Week on ABC, Toad just didn't catch Sanders' rebuttal before they went off-air, or maybe he intentionally didn't report, since last Sunday they corrected before the end of the show for something or other tRump related.  I don't even care to remember what it was.

I only watched the first 20 minutes.  I thought Halperin had finally come to his senses because he clearly outlined how and why trump had to release his taxes.  Nicolle also sounded pretty clear that if we, the viewers, ever thought she's vote for him, there's no way.

I hope team Hillary points out that bilking the US on taxes means you've screwed the military and everything else the rest of us pay taxes to support. And if you as a genius businessman lost nearly one billion dollars and declared bankruptcy 4 times, what kind of businessman are you?

The panel, as whole, seemed pretty disgusted that he mocked Hillary and accused her of cheating on Bill.  Nicolle thinks his handlers must have wanted to die because he had a teleprompter but didn't use it or stay on script for the first part of his performance  Saturday night.

When they say "no one cares," I think they're referring to the fact that he can't seem to drop below a certain percentage in the polls no matter what (44% or so?). Joe and co. can't understand how he's performing within the range of a normal nominee, like any other Republican. This durability in the face of the worst candidate and campaign in history is incredible. I think you have to blame the voters for this though. This guy SHOULD be in the mid-30's at best, so there's a percentage of so-called normal Republicans out there who know better, but are apparently sticking with the party label even in the face of apocalypse. There's something really messed up about those folks. Why don't they just stay home?

I do wonder if the NYT is sitting on more documents and that's why the reporter couldn't talk long. Also, it's telling that polls are the only thing that really matters to pundits, not issues.

Agree, if its the fact that younger people a lot of whom are Bernie supporters, are having a hard time making it on their own and thus having to live  with their parents,  basement or not, then it's not  a diss, it's more sympathetic, and maybe why it didn't become an issue with MJ and the other shows.

Le sighhhhh...didn't we previously go through this exercise with Joe back in 2012 when President Obama and Governor Romney were running?  I swear, the more some things change, the more they stay the same.  I'm already bracing myself for Joe's angry red face, slitty eyes and shouting if Drumpf doesn't "pivot" for the general election and doesn't do well in the next debate.  I remember his morose and shitty disposition in 2012 after President Obama bounced back after the second debate.

Since Joe is so fond of polls, I'm waiting for him to have Nate Silver on, but I don't think he wants to go there again especially if Nate doesn't give him the narrative that he wants to peddle.  Maybe after this election cycle, Joe will finally get it through his thick skull why it is foolish to openly align himself with a particular candidate.

I didn't even make it 1/2 hour today. Show is unwatchable without Mika there to rein in Joe. Joe and his group of delusional nitwits. It just showed how full of shit Republican pundits are. They were operating in an alternative universe today. Harold Ford tried to interject some reason and Joe just shouted nonsense over the top of him.

  • Love 5

I do agree that Mika does bring a balance to the show. But I did laugh a little when they mentioned the Kardashian robbery and said, Mika would be annoyed if we talked about it and Cackles said, but she's not here, we can do it and not tell her. That made me laugh a little.

The most animated I have ever seen Harold Ford was in the first 5 minutes when they were talking about football. You could almost, but not quite, see some light in those cold dead soulless eyes.

  • Love 10

Have to roll my eyes at Joe's faux rage about the rich not paying taxes.  His party has been against changing this system especially in regards to hedge fund managers.  He should be happy he makes enough to pay 55% taxes considering how few hours he "works."  Seriously he brings so little to the table that you could just pull in someone walking down the sidewalk ten minutes before the show starts and they could probably do a better job than him.

What scares me the most is Trump's audiences.  They seemed to be lapping it up during his off script monologue that Joe showed.  How can any sane person look at that and think the man should be president?????? Making fun of Hillary walking to her car during the 9/11 debate just reinforces the idea that he intentional mocked that disabled NYT reporter.  I can see not wanting to vote for Hillary but to openly and strongly support Trump is beyond my grasp.  I want change in this country but a super rich guy who doesn't pay taxes, sells products from China and Mexico, stiffs his suppliers, brags about avoiding the draft during Viet Nam and compares his ability to avoid a STD during that time to a soldier isn't someone who I look at as a change agent.  Nor is electing the same senators and congressmen over and over again going to make a change.

Joe was super duper annoying this morning.  Harold Ford was making a good point and Joe just kept interrupting him with nonsense that Harold never was able to complete his point.

I couldn't get a read on Joe's perspective on the WSJ editorial.  It was a withering takedown of Trump, and while it made Cackles happy, the woman sitting to her right seemed to be looking at Joe for guidance as to how to react.
Was Joe uninterested in the editorial, or did he agree?

This happens all the time on the show. Joe often starts the show talking about a topic &  Willie isn't sure which way Joe is going to start ranting at. They have to wait till Joe's rant is over, before they start agreeing with him. Mika will often rolls her eyes or make faces at the camera. Harold Ford will agree with whatever Joe said & add a couple of points. The relatively new thing is that they will show a clip of something stupid Trump or Gary Johnson said & then show Joe will staying silent & smiling. Joe is so smart, he never makes a faux pas. He used to get in trouble for swearing on the show.

cackles has been anti Trump since the primaries began. She had to be friendly to Trump when he was on daily. She would always tell Mr Trump that her parents loved him!.

Elise Jordan reminds me of Marcia Brady from the Brady Bunch movies. She worked for Rand Paul. She was excited about the editorial.

What are they sniffing today? Trump behind in every poll except the wacky UCLA poll but he is doing great! This "tax thing" is a nothing? please!

This is corporate welfare and many people see it that way no matter how much you bitch and moan.

Joe must be freezing her out until she comes around to his pro Trump stance. He's not worth it Mika!

Mika was twisting like a pretzel this morning defending Trump. She actually said that Hillary hid her speaking fees and wasn't transparent when we all know about her speaking fees because she has released the last 20+years of tax returns. Mika then said that Trump didn't pay taxes and lost a billion dollars but at least he's being honest and transparent about it and didn't break any laws. Really!!! The only reason we know about his losses and taxes is because someone leaked that information. Trump still refuses to release his tax returns Mika!.

Yesterday I wished Mika was there to balance out the panel. I have never been more wrong in my life!

Now Joe just said no candidate has ever been more in the pocket of Wall Street than Hillary Clinton. Again, really!!! Donald Trump is leveraged up to his eyeballs to Wall Street banks but it's Hillary who is in their pockets. All she did was get paid for giving speeches to them. I don't think she owes them any money.

This show is really making my blood boil this morning!

Joe is cluck-clucking over the polls and marveling as to why Clinton isn't beating Trump more decisively in the battleground states.

Practically every guest they had on, from Al Sharpton (more gently) to Barnicle and Thomas and Woodward (more neutrally) to Mika and Joe (more bombastically) answered that question: because Clinton is not making an argument for herself. It's not enough to compare herself to Trump. As Sharpton put it, she has yet to make an argument why people should get up early on Election Day and stand in line FOR her, not just her because you don't want Trump. They played a clip of Clinton making jokes mocking Trump for losing money and concluded that this is not going to do it.

No, she didn't say that. She said we don't know what she said in those speeches because she has refused to release the transcripts. The idea that we are not entitled to read what she told entities and people's who would be regulated by myriad agencies and departments - Treasury, CFTC, SEC, DoJ - under her administration is contemptuous and contemptible. An excellent point by Mika.

What she says in her rallies to "make a case for herself" and what gets picked up by the media and discussed by Joe and his pack of bloviators on cable news are two entirely different things. She has been very clear on her policies and what her plans are for governing  - and it's way more specific than the "terrific" and "huge" and "beautiful" vagaries spouted by Trump.

Interesting how Mika has done a 180 on HRC this morning.

As far as the Wall Street speeches, maybe Mika & Joe could do a little work, ie google Clinton speeches to Wall Street, and find out that topics  include global macroeconomics, woman entrepreneurs, etc.  AND hold onto your scarf, Mika, Sec. Clinton requires a stenographer to be at the events to record everything she says.

These two twits are giving me whiplash.  Pick a candidate already and stick with it.

And here's my 2 cents regarding tRump and his avoiding Federal taxes (because he's so smart, doncha know):  Giving him the benefit of the doubt - as wide a berth as that is - that it was all legal and above-board, that leaves a gaping chasm between his manic pro-military stance and the actual reality of the Defense budget.  Unless I am totally misunderstanding how this works, don't our Federal taxes fund the military (salaries, weaponry, submarines, aircraft, bases, etc.) and fund all veterans' benefits?  If that orange jackass didn't pay a dime for decades or more - if ever - how can he tout his supposed "love" of all things military?  When given the chance to serve his country, he finagled his way out with his boo-boo heels (GIVE ME A F'ING BREAK).  When he had the opportunity to support the American military through payment of the very taxes that fund the entire Defense Dept., he brags - BRAGS -  that he's so smart that he jumped through every loophole to avoid giving our troops so much as one dollar.  Why is no-one bombarding him with this question??   Why do all those generals who support him not find this hypocritical?  Has this ever been brought up on the Joe and Meeka Comedy Hour (Plus Two More)?

No she doesn't. A laundry list of policies that any Dem presidential candidate would be backing isn't reasons to vote for her. She needs to inspire people. I've been to her rallies. She's awful and can't do that. Truly the worst Dem candidate I've seen in my lifetime on the stump. Worse than Gore and Kerry by far. But, now she appears to be full of hubris too.

That said, I had to delete the show again after 1/2 hour. Completely worthless. The only person who said anything resembling reality was Eugene Robinson. The tax thing is not "nothing" to voters. It is going to hurt Trump. It's too early to show in the polls since it same out late Sat nite.

There is no point in having a panel if they are all going to have to agree with Joe's nonsense. There have a long string of polls showing Hillary gaining in them and they cherry-picked the worst ones for Hillary. And they keep harping on OH like it is the entire election. It's not 2004 any longer. Dems don't need OH to win. They have an easy path without OH and IA. It would be a lot easier if we didn't have the shittiest Dem presidential candidate in modern history, but it is still quite easy.

Also, acting like Trump can turn it around in the next debate is ignoring the reality that early voting has started in many swing states. It is going to be too late in NC to reverse this trend.

Those are her public speeches to Wall Street. She gave tons of private speeches to Wall Street that we don't have any idea what she said. Hillary's contract stipulated that a stenographer be paid by the client and that she retained sole control of the transcript. That is why people are demanding she release her WS transcripts because no one knows what is in them.
