CheezyXpressed October 29, 2015 Share October 29, 2015 (edited) Did Whoopi just say that Rob Ford was the former PM? *sigh* I shouldn't be surprised, but Rob Ford was never the Prime Minister of Canada. He was just the mayor of Toronto. He did smoke crack, but only when mayor. Stephen Harper was PM. As for the burqa thing. As a Muslim, I kind of hate it when non-Muslims talk about what we wear, whether it be hijab, niqab, jilbab, or burqa. Not out of hatefulness or whatever, but because no one really asks us how we feel about it. Tons of articles are written with people saying, "This isn't fair for the women." or that they're forced, etc... And while hijab is the bare minimum, the niqab is seen as extra reward but if you don't do it then you don't have to. For the burqa, I have no idea, but some women do it because they want to get closer to God. So I kind of liked that Trump was saying why do we have to care about this when the women want to do it. The makeup thing was stupid, since there are tons of Muslims that still wear it, but I did like that he said that. There are places where more women wear the niqab and burqa, but if you're in a society where everyone wears it then you're more inclined to do it. It's liked ripped jeans, or skinny jeans, or baggy jeans lol. I have friends and family who live in Saudi and they don't wear the niqab and only the hijab, so it's not really forced on you. But even then it doesn't really matter. I just wish this sort of topic would stop happening. What someone wears isn't anyone's business. Edited October 29, 2015 by CheezyXpressed 10 Link to comment

I don't think it happened on the show(at least not yet), but Sharon Needles dressed as Caitlyn for a performance for a Drag Race event. Yes, Raven is apart of the lgbtq community. Although she doesn't believe in labels. She has/had a girlfriend that was on America's Next Top Model. Another thing, Whoopi really shouldn't be the voice or the go to person about black face given her history with Ted Danson. Also, modern black face is more than black paint and big red lips. There is no excuse for it. You can dress up like other people of color without darkening your skin. Just stop. 5 Link to comment
ari333 October 29, 2015 Share October 29, 2015 (edited) There is nothing in Islam that I know of about mistreating women or mandating hijab etc. (dress modestly ,yes) It is the men in certain regions who interpret the words of the Quran to meet their needs who make these issues anti-woman. Men in many cultures do these things. (See the old dudes in some US states who marry 14 yr olds as they wave the Bible in peoples' faces. ) Raven never ceases to amaze me in a bad way. She is my 2nd fave DR contestant of all time (top honors go to Tammie Brown). But Sharon is really not the person whose behavior should be cited in order to suggest something is "okay." I mean, she once gave a BJ to Alaska on stage. Not that I actually believe for a second that Raven was referring to anything Sharon Needles wore during a DR event when she made her comment. I think she just pulled the whole non-existent Drag Race tv show example out of her ass. Incidentally, RuPaul kind of frowns on anything he does or says being held out as representative of how the LBGT community feels about any given issue. I seriously doubt he would be happy with Raven suggesting something that (didn't even) happen on his show makes a Caitlyn Jenner Halloween costume okay. Morgalisa October 29, 2015 Share October 29, 2015 So, The View just made CNN. I haven't seen today's show, but according to Brooke Baldwin, they disparaged Carly Fiorina's face. I think Michelle said she looked demented and Whoopi said she looked like a Halloween mask. She called them hypocrites because of them taking Trump to task for talking about Fiorina's appearance. From the clip she showed, it seemed as if they were talking about Fiorina's inability to smile convincingly. Michelle seems to put her foot in it a lot. Off to watch now. 5 Link to comment

For me personally, when I think of the news I don't think of the View Whoopi, so no you are not, nor were you EVER in the news business. However, I did watch Paula on the graveyard ABC NEWS shift, key words being ABC NEWS, while getting ready for work. I've also seen her do correspondence work/consumer news reports for ABC NEWS. So yeah, sit your ass down Whoopie, takes several seats. I have no fucking idea what her problem is and how someone so accomplished could be be insecure. It's rare that a guest shuts them all up simultaneously :) Whoopi is such a rude bitch. Nothing new there. And they went on and on about the Caitlyn Jenner costume being inappropriate and a mockery. I think it was Michelle towards the end who quickly said Caitlyn was fine with it. If they had done a speck of research they could have aired a clip from Caitlyn's interview with Matt Lauer (conducted on the golf course at her club). Matt asked her if the costume hurt or bothered her, and Caitlyn smiled/laughed and said she's totally on-board with it and thought it was great. 5 Link to comment

She seriously said that? Hahahahahaha! Whoopi thinks she's in the News business now because this show is coming out of the ABC News Division budget? That's funny. And rude. And ignorant. And completely Whoopi Goldberg. I only saw the last 15-20 minutes today but if you guys have it online or recorded check out the last minute of the Nathan Hale Lane /Devlin Elliot interview. They were on selling their little dog book (also, they are a couple - 18 years) and Whoopi tries to segway, then says something no one understood and made it seem like an inside joke. BUT my favorite is when she thanked Nathan by name and then just froze because she clearly forgot Devlin's name [- no matter that it was on the cover of the book in front of her] because the camera was on Nathan who had this, "yes?" look on his face. Another polished example of the fine moderating by Whoopi Goldberg. Also, the cameras were still going after the sign off - Whoopi, Michelle, Joy, and Raven practically raced off the stage but left Paula behind. Or maybe she chose to stay behind to talk to someone. But it looked awkward and it looked like all the mean girls taking off and leaving Paula alone. These assholes are going to make me start rooting for Paula if they don't knock it off. Edited to correct Nathan Lane's name. Thanks ari333. Nothing like screwing up someone's name while criticizing Whoopi for forgetting someone's name. merriebreeze October 29, 2015 Share October 29, 2015 When Whoopi ends the show with "we appreciate you because you make us better" is that because she was admonished for saying so many times "don't tweet me cause I don't care"? It's so awkward. If there's a petition to get rid of Raven, by all rights there should be one to get rid of Whoopi. The decision-makers need to get their heads together and figure out how to get rid of Whoopi before the election talk really heats up. She's a liability, not an asset. 12 Link to comment

Celia Rubenstein October 30, 2015 Share October 30, 2015 (edited) So I kind of liked that Trump was saying why do we have to care about this when the women want to do it. Donald Trump was talking about one or two women he saw being interviewed who said they like to wear burkas. That is a pretty small sample for him to base such a sweeping generalization on. And it shows no appreciation for the feelings of the many women who hate the garment but would never say so publicly for fear of being punished for it. It doesn't surprise me Trump would be so obtuse, but it makes me sad this point seems to have been missed by the entire panel, as well. That Huckabee segment hit the floor like a safe. Ha, didn't it, though! The delays, the stupid questions and comments from Michelle and Raven ... and I don't know why Whoopi handled the abortion discussion the way she did. Asking Huckabee if making women feel guilty is a bad thing to do? Are you kidding? To the extent he gives a shit how women feel at all, he is THRILLED they feel guilty for getting an abortion. But he was wile enough to turn it into a chance to play Mr. Compassionate, and explain he just doesn't want women to be victims. Aww, what a nice guy. He doesn't want me to be a victim of my own freedom. Thanks for doing my thinking for me, Governor Huckabee! When Whoopi finally asked him why he feels entitled to tell women what they can do with their bodies, he swatted her like a fly by pointing out there are two bodies involved. Oh, she walked right into that one. The audience actually applauded him. I think she was a bit rattled because she seemed to start losing her cool after that, diving into the economics of abortion with a raised voice. Then BAM the interview was over. Out of time, she said. It's a good thing that I witnessed them waste so much time before they ever got to the abortion issue and can actually believe they ran out of time, because if not, I might snarkily suggest that the producers pulled the plug on the interview because Whoopi was drowning. I'm just sayin' I loved how Raven asked her ridiculous question about the Trump necktie/bromance right on the heels of Huckabee saying he thought too many questions last night were dumb and had nothing to do with being President. And Michelle actually re-asked him a question about his biggest flaw, a question he found so stupid during the debate that he basically refused to answer it. Ugh. Can we please get these two ladies a couple of thermometers, because neither one of them ever seems to know the temperature of the room. And someone get Whoopi a couple of books on how to debate an issue, because she kind of sucks at it when she is not talking to a fellow panelist who is afraid of her. backformore October 30, 2015 Share October 30, 2015 Both Huckabee and Cruz had the same view - that the questions asked in the debate were frivolous, and that the debate should have focused on important issues. But Whoopi interprets that as an attack on the media, and the network that broadcast the debate. What I saw is that the women of The View did the same thing that Cruz and Huckabee were criticizing - deciding to focus on trivial issues, like smiling, ties, "bromance", etc. Whoopi yells about it, but the criticism was valid. I was getting freaked out by Raven's weird jewelry - she had a heavy chain hanging down, like a necklace, but it was attached to her earring! I kept thinking, that if the chain caught on her mic, or if she brushed it with her hand, it could tear her earlobe. 2 Link to comment

Tosia October 30, 2015 Share October 30, 2015 I am a substitute teacher and have requested many a cell phone. Yesterday, in fact. Girl (7th grade) wd not give it up. I called the office. Adm came and talked to her in the hall. She came back in, bragging to friends with said phone. I called again and she left the room with adm when they back. This was an easy one. Usually when a kid will not comply, teachers may clear the room. ..take all the other kids to a different room (been there, done that srveral time due to one specific kid's violence), or call adm and wait for backup. ALWAYS, ALWAYS at leasr 2 adults in room. Usually student complies when adm starts to call parent from the room. There was one time in a high school when a 9th grade student of color would not comply. Adm,counselor, as nd resource officer came. Student wd n ot budge. He also had extreme issues from birth, fostered, adopted then to an enabling white mom, whom i had the pleasure (not)of conversing with in several meetings. Anyhoo, to make a long story longer, resource officer was unable to contact mom, and informed student that he wd have to use handcuffs and/or physical effort to move this kid out of class to the office. Student replied that he did nt care, do officer did so with help of counselor. ..they basically walked him out with hands cuffed behind him, holding on to his arms to keep jim moving. Quite smoothly, no resistance. Mom tried to sue, but it didnt work ?, and student was pulled out to be homeschooled. LAST story, i promise. 30 years ago when i was student teaching, my supervising teacher pulled a middle school student out of his desk and into the hall very roughly. Teacher was transferred to the high school the next year. 4 Link to comment
