funky-rat November 16, 2015 Share November 16, 2015 To be fair, I know people who live in small towns who are firefighters/EMS. They work 3 days on /3 days off schedule and often commute to larger cities to work. This would be entirely feasible for Devar to do. Also, there are often paramedic/ems jobs available in hospital emergency rooms to take some of the load off nurses by performing skilled medical services like starting IVs that CNAs aren't allowed to do. I find it interesting most EMS jobs are volunteer or part time. My parents live in rural Arkansas, and they have local EMS service that is staffed 24/7/365 by professional, full time paramedics. It depends on the area, and whether the EMS are affiliated with a Volunteer Fire Department, or are private, or part of a county/boro/township, etc. 1 Link to comment
funky-rat November 16, 2015 Share November 16, 2015 funky rat: I live in PA. Who are the "they" who would pay for anyone's education? Because school guidance counselors need to publicize this info. At least around here, many nursing homes and care facilities regularly advertise that they are so hard up for CNA's that they will pay for your schooling and in some cases actually pay you while you go to school, provided you sign on to work for them for a set amount of time. I know a few people who have done this. The downside is that you're stuck with whatever shift they give you - often 2nd or 3rd. And if it ends up being a crappy environment, you're stuck. I worked in collections eons ago, and we collected for a few facilities who paid for people to go to school and then they bailed on the employment contract. Link to comment
Drogo November 16, 2015 Share November 16, 2015 Unfortunately Kyle is right, when you work as a bartender you make your money by flirting and being nice to customers. Noon is going to have to get used to that Being nice to customers definitely, sweet adjectives maybe, but actual flirting is a terrible tip-getting strategy for a bartender. Especially if you're Kyle. 6 Link to comment
Cara November 16, 2015 Share November 16, 2015 (edited) Noon and Kyle (Is that his name?) bore me. The manufactured drama isn't even interesting Aleksandra and Josh I think are probably the most heavily edited and staged. I think they are a sweet young couple. The conflicts with family and culture are exaggerated. I keep thinking about Jason and Cassia from last season and how much of their story was rewritten for the camera. As for Mark and Niki... They maybe heavily edited and scripted too. But with them I don't think it matters. The basic facts of that relationship are wrong on so many levels. funky-rat November 16, 2015 Share November 16, 2015 (edited) Obviously the drinking game phrase for this show is Mark's "I was left with 4 kids in diapers." Followed by Loren spewing "DELICIOUS!!". Marc seems very autistic to me. He just doesn't get anything because he is way too logical and has 0 social skills which seems like a biological thing. Why doesn't he get fixed? That makes a lot more sense to me but when he is fixed on an idea, he doesn't change his mind. I would give you two probable reasons: 1) He's the man. It's not his obligation to ensure she doesn't get pregnant, because he won't be carrying the baby. (NOTE: I do NOT agree with this, but there are men who think like that - I would not put it past him) 2) He thinks it will affect his libido or make him less of a man. My husband had it done (I've been advised not to have kids - it could cause me serious harm due to issues) and he was shocked at how many guys have absolutely the wrong idea about it. Especially if you're Kyle. Agreed. I was a bartender for years. Flirting is just one tool in the personality toolkit for any service provider! And really, if his tired, mechanical "so, what are you ladies up to tonight?" is his idea of devastatingly charming repartee, well, he has a long way to go. I was surprised that Josh's dad did not wear a tie to the morning scripture reading. Mama still has her arms crossed, though, and her look of patient suffering is firmly in place. What a sourpuss. Loren is horrible. I know I've said that already but. She just sucks all the oxygen out of the room. Her parents are beaten down and Alexei is next. 7 Link to comment
Dobian November 16, 2015 Share November 16, 2015 Mark, or Fonzie as I call him, as he looks like present day Henry Winkler, is a total jerk. You can't have it both ways. You want no kids, find an older woman who has raised her kids and doesn't want any more. Don't marry a young girl and deny her a huge part of her life. This guy doesn't want a wife, he wants a maid with sex organs. Nikki is young and immature. She needs to go back home, go to school, and evenutally meet an age-appropriate guy. 16 Link to comment

Not sure it was 16-18 years young but it was close to that. Nikki saw an easy way out of her environment so I don't feel sorry for her one bit. I wonder how Loren will feel about Alexi years down the road once he finally starts to let himself go a bit and no longer has those chiseled abs. locomoco November 16, 2015 Share November 16, 2015 (edited) If religious conversion means anything, then to "revert" is not an option. THAT is "the thing about faith." Depends on the motivating factor that lead to the conversion in the first place. I had an uncle who wanted to marry a Mormon woman, and she asked him to convert - which he did. When they later divorced, he completely dropped being Mormon. There's no absolutes with the reasons behind a person changing their religious beliefs... frequently, actual belief isn't so much a factor as the person just saying they've switched to make someone else happy. Aren't there like seven boys in their early teens to twenties living there? I've been in homes with three or four boys in that age range, and it has always had a feeling of happy, fun, mostly controlled chaos. I agree about the erectile dysfunction. The one thing that makes me wonder (and I hate that this is what I wonder about in my free time) is that when Mark offered Nikki her own room, and she chose to be with him in his zebra print boudoir, she said something along the lines of being intimate with Mark is "beautiful." Now that I've ruined everyone's lives, I have to say that makes me think that Mark was able to get around to it in the past, so maybe she's hoping that with luck, she'll get a baby out of him yet. Granny58 November 16, 2015 Share November 16, 2015 Do my eyes deceive me or did I see distinct dick print during Alexei's photoshoot? I still don't understand Kate Moss or that plain piece of stale toast Karlie Kloss so far be it from me to say that Alexei can't be a model. But it does seem that male models aren't held to as high a standard as female ones. They also don't get paid as much. However, from the few ones I am aware of and see in mags they all seem to have incredible bone structure. I'm talking cheekbones chiseled by the gawds and well defined strong jaw lines. None of which Alexei has to balance out that rather prominent nose of his. There are phases in fashion and movements like the jolie laide (pretty ugly) where you get the Adam Drivers types that slip through. However, Alexei seems to have neither the passion or desire to pursue this so odds are he won't make it. Why doesn't Mark just get himself fixed if he is so dead set against having kids? Why trust a 19 year old who isn't even familiar with birth control with the whole zero population growth philosphy? Hurray for Kyle and Noon's new apartment. I agree with others that the roach infested place was just for drama. Seriously, Noon Kyle seems nice but he isn't all that cute to be all turnt up about his flirting. I think the main problem with Devar and Mel is that they can't see that great, earth shattering vacation sex and love of aerobics doesn't equal successful, happy marriage. Melanie is giving me Kate Gosselin vibes. 6:00 am bible study? Every morning? My ass would have been burned my k1 visa and ate the ashes and then been on travelocity checking airfare immediately after I heard that shit. I like a somewhat larger nose on a man and Alexei is just fine with me! :-) 7 Link to comment

islandgal140 November 16, 2015 Share November 16, 2015 And yet we never get a break from Mark. TLC knows how to butter the bread so as to spread the crazy/controversial liberally. Well, shit Devar. There is a huge difference between sending money if you have it and if asked to saying 90% of all your earnings are going to your sisters in Jamaica. Oh yes. Me thinks the suggestion for Alexei to grow a bread and his hair longer was to perhaps hide his less than Superman-like jaw and chin line and give him more of an edgier look since he probably won't really qualify as traditionally pretty/handsome like your typical Calvin Klein model. Hell, there is a market for that. If he photographed well I could see him getting some work in Florida. He just looked way too uncomfortable in front of the cameras. Frankly, this stinks of producer driven drama. I guess they needed a storyline of some kind. Reminds me of Kirylam from S1. I thought she was so freaking facially beautiful. If she wasn't 5 foot nothing and was actually tall and statuesque, I think she could have been model. I am curious as to Loren and Alexei's living arrangements after marriage. So did they move to Florida permanently or just temp? Cost of living is definitely cheaper down there compared NYC. 4 Link to comment

Chickabiddy November 16, 2015 Share November 16, 2015 How is that this show has been on and I have somehow missed it. It hits close to home- my husband is German and moved her to be with me 17 years ago. We didn't do the K-1 route...more like breaking the rules and asking for forgiveness later. Anyway, before I comment on the specific couples, I have to say that it really shocks me how insensitive all of them seem to be to the culture shock, language barriers, and isolation that their fiancés must be facing, particularly if that person really has not been out in the world too much. My husband speaks English fluently and it a an adventurous traveler who lived in several other countries for longer periods while doing research, BUT I was still very aware of the pressure of starting a permanent new life away from all the friends and family he has eve known. This brings me to Loren and Alexsei.. Loren is the most selfish, self absorbed little twit I have ever watched on TV, and that is a competitive catatagy. I sometimes still cry at the airport when my husband and now our son has to leave our family in Germany. I know it was my husband's choice and that he is happy with it, but I still feel sad at the separation they have to endure. And no point, however, do I flounce off and feel sorry for myself. My job at those times it to be strong, loving and optimistic for him about the next time they can all be together. I am also unclear as to why Loren quit her job to move back to Florida to live with her parents. She does not seem to have a job now, so she and her fiancé are both living off her parents? How expensive can it be to feed Alexsei for three months? Judging by his modeling pictures, he does not seem to eat very much. :-) In all seriousness though a couple in that situation really, really needs time alone to get to know each other without the pressure of parents and family. Also, their a plenty of little odd jobs he could do to bring in a little extra scratch. I am bringing this up now because Loren commented that money was tight. Last comment on Loren is that her constant heaving and panting over Alexei is just gross, really gross. I thought she as about to have an orgasm on camera. Can you imagine if a man was acting that way over his fiancé? She is a shallow, demoing little twit, and he is going to tire of appeasing her real fast. Mark and Nikki are just sad. Mark wants everything his way. He is not interested in a relationship. He wants a housemaid and "comfort woman" to fulfill his needs and work out past issue with his wife. There is a reason why this man has not had a relationship in 20 years. He doesn't want him. He wants a young girl he can control and feel superior to. I hope Nikki sticks to it for her papers and then heads for the hills. It really is all that Mark deserves. Kyle and Noon are just boring, and that is probably a good thing. It means they are normal. The best thing for me are the shots of New Orleans. We just moved and I a am a little homesick I do just to throw in that Bourbon Street really is a tourist only kinda place. Locals take advantage of the million and one other great places to hang out So, those shots of people behaving badly are most likely tourists. :-) Melanie and Devar are just doomed. Sex on the Beach, cocktails or otherwise, is just not a good basis for a long and loving relationship. I think Devar's intentions are what he originally stated. He plans to send the lion's share of his income home to his family. He backtracked when confronted. Course, could be producer manipulation, but my opinion is that he wants to move to the US for economic reasons. He wants to send money home to Jamaica because in his mind, that is home. I think Melanie is a complete loon for bringing someone into her son's life so quickly. Call me a cynic, but I think that Josh and Aleksandra are in mad puppy love. I just don't see it lasting long term. I feel like Aleksandra got to a point in her life where she was feeling down or like she was in a bad place, maybe with an aggressive macho boyfriend. Josh just seems like a her own emotional backlash to her life to date. I think she was looking for something more meaningful or maybe more spiritual. Maybe she was feeling vulnerable and Josh's sweet, passive personality was an anecdote to that. This is all pure conjecture on my part, but I just hope she realizes that there is a middle ground. Aleksandra must seem exotic and exciting to Josh, certainly more exotic and exciting than anything he has ever known before. I just think each of them are experiencing an exciting phase in their very young lives, but don't see their connection as a lasting one. I also see Josh's mother to be problem down the road. Aleksandra seems so worried about the father, but that mother displays such disapproving and sour body language whenever she is around Aleksandra. She can barely hold in her bile and disapproval. Well, that is my two cent, for what it's worth. I do really enjoy the show even though it seems completely contrived and producer driven. Can't wait to see how their story arcs progress 8 Link to comment

Even when they were at the beach, it was like she made this big show of jumping all over Alexi in the water so everyone would be looking at them.....and by looking at them, I mean looking at her, because she needs constant attention. I also thinks she misunderstands a) what people are looking for in a male model, b) how much work modelling is (its just sitting there with someone taking pictures, not really), and c) how much money male models just starting out make. Monetarily, he is likely better off just being an EMT or a firefighter/paramedic. And why can't she get a job, didn't she have some fancy pants EA job in New York City? RCharter November 16, 2015 Share November 16, 2015 3. Melanie/Devar -- here is my thing with that, and its going to be an UO. Melanie has a great job and an ex-husband who pays her child support, and maybe alimony. She has been able to afford her house, her lifestyle and her child without Devar's help and do just fine, if not better than fine. He comes from a poor country where his money could really make a difference for his sisters. And probably from a culture where the son is fawned over, but expected to support his family. If his money isn't going to make a huge difference in Melanie's life, I don't see why she would insist on having it. For her, it would just mean a few more toys, or the ability to take a few more trips during the year. And if it was a huge deal they should have had very extensive conversations about it. Instead she seemed to think that because she told him she had a child and a house and spent a lot of money on trips back and forth that he should automatically know that he was expected to not send money back home. It would be totally different if this were a Dani situation where she was having her lights shut off, and couldn't afford basic bills and shoes for her child -- but it isn't. Melanie is pretty self sufficient. Will there be additional costs because of Devar? Absolutely, and he should pay those costs, for food, for increased bills, he should pay his way. But that isn't going to require all of his money. They should have separate accounts, my parents have always had separate accounts and they never fought about money. It just supports the idea that Devar was her toy and she didn't bother to find out much more about him than how he looked. I think that even with a small amount of digging she would have found out that "oh yes" Devar intended to financially support his family, no matter what. The fact that she would prefer that they live in poverty, so she can get a few extra bucks in an account every month seems selfish to me. 8 Link to comment
3girlsforus November 16, 2015 Share November 16, 2015 Loren's sneering at Alexei's wish to do something meaningful was breathtaking! "OMIGOD, he wants to be a police officer or a firefighter or an EMT and serve his community! He should be a MODEL!" Um, what?? Yeah, he should not help people, he should pursue a long shot, high risk, short lived dream! Loren is a harpy of the first water. She will never be content. What an awful, awful person she is. Every thing is all about her. This a billion times over. She is an awful, awful person. What kind of bitch looks at someone who wants be a police officer/firefighter/EMT and thinks that's just not good enough for her. Run Alexei!! Find someone who appreciates you. 8 Link to comment
RCharter November 16, 2015 Share November 16, 2015 (edited) 4. Alexsandra -- girl run! His father was throwing dagger looks at the empty sofa space and wouldn't even stop reading the bible to say good morning to her. I get that she was like 10 minutes late, but is that really a Christian way to behave? You know what you can do to get them to like you? Invent a time machine, get in it and go back 5 years and never danced a step, or done anything remotely fun or interesting in your life. That will make Josh's dad like you. RCharter November 16, 2015 Share November 16, 2015 OMG you all, Kyle works at the Oceana....which was featured on Gordon Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares. It is one of the most entertaining episodes, and the owners of that place are hilariously insane. I can't believe that! 6 Link to comment

cooksdelight November 16, 2015 Share November 16, 2015 I love it when we have an accidental crossover. Mark may have wanted to do this show to boost his business. But I think it's going to have the opposite effect. 6 Link to comment
RCharter November 17, 2015 Share November 17, 2015 I love it when we have an accidental crossover. Mark may have wanted to do this show to boost his business. But I think it's going to have the opposite effect. I had no idea that piano rental was such a big deal. My parents have a piano that no one uses, maybe I get a van and start renting it out.... He may have done it to boost business, because I think he lacks the self-awareness to realize that he comes off like a weirdo. Mark is not interested in having a relationship with anyone. He only wants to re-enact his past. I have no doubt that there are 19 years old women out there who do not want children but Nikki is not one of them. She's a young woman who thinks her love will change Mark. I hope she goes home. Or it would serve Mark right if shortly after getting her citizenship she dumps him for another man who will give her the family she wants. How long after marrying does a spouse become a citizen? Someone should tell Melanie there is 0% chance that Devar's relatives will not need money. How long is Alexei going to tolerate Loren? He looks miserable. Its like he wants to recreate his past...but go back and make everything absolutely perfect. He wants a 19 year old child bride, but he doesn't want her to ever want to have children. He wants a 19 year old, but he never wants her to have mood swings or to argue. And he can always hold the threat of sending her back to poverty over her head. I truly hope she gets on BC, gets her green card and finds someone else. Unless her goal is to get pregnant so that she can get money from him and can't be sent home when she makes the mistake of touching windows, rearranging books, or just having a bad day and starting a fight. 3 Link to comment
