I'm confused - when did Violet get back with what's-'is-name?  I thought that he had kicked her out after he found out she had a baby that was given up for adoption.  Did I miss an episode between this one and the one where Regina started drinking alone?

12catcrazy, it was at the end of the episode where they had the argument. Violet was about to come back home (was at Christy's door actually) and called Christy. Christy told her that if she wanted to work it out with him not to run away from it, so she turned around and presumably went back home to him (why can't I remember his name either?!).

I guess they are going to go full-tilt with that relationship. I figured it was going to run its course due to the age difference.

Oh my gosh!!! I've been searching and searching on previously.tv for months to find a thread for Mom and I dont know why I never found it. It didnt seem to be listed. I am so excited that i have a place to talk about my love for this show. I'm surprised why this isn't more popular. It's so fantastic. I love each character, the real issues they struggle with and work on, etc.

as a Yiddish speaker I was cracking up throughout last night's episode. The only thing that bugged me is that a culturally Jewish mother who speaks that much Yiddish, would not be cool with her son marrying out of the faith. But hey, this is a comedy show.

Love the show. Laughed so much.

This episode was especially good thanks to Linda Lavin. She's still got it. And she was great on Sean Hayes' short-lived sitcom a couple years ago too. I wonder why we haven't been seeing more of her. She kind of dropped out of sight after Alice went off the air 30 years ago. She definitely had all the best zingers in this episode. It's rare for someone to best Bonnie in a verbal match.

If I have one gripe it's the diminished roles of Violet and Roscoe. They've basically become recurring characters rather than main cast members. Granted maybe they're not interesting enough to merit more screen time but the premise of the show is "Mom" after all. Seems like more stories should focus on Christie being, you know, a mom.

Welcome, Big Mother! When I put "mom" into the search field on a forum page, I don't get any results. But if I go to the all forums page and scroll to the M section, the show is there. Not sure what that happens.

I think the ratings for the show are pretty good, but it doesn't seem to generate as much conversation as some other, even less popular, shows do. I don't know why that is!

Violet and Rosco (and to a certain extent Baxter) aren't main characters because the show realized it worked better focusing on Christy and the relationship with HER mother. The chemistry they give off a awesome plus the usual in AA which got added piecemeal. Violet originally came off too bitchy for some and Rosco is just young. It may come down to his availability and acting ability.

Please make Linda Lavin a regular or semi-regular, producers!  It was so good to see her again. She looks fabulous.

I loved her character.  She made the perfect Greek chorus!

I thought Linda Lavin was fantastic in the latest episode. Please, please, please, CBS...could you at least make her a semi-regular??
As for the character of Gregory..has David Krumholtz gained a LOT of weight...or is it just my imagination?

Love this show.  Allison Janney is fantastic.  I love the whole cast, Christy and all the ladies in their group, especially Majorie.  This past episode was great, Linda Lavin was terrific.  I also wish she becomes semi regular.  Guess Violet went home and worked it out with him.  They never mentioned anything, last episode before Christmas, thought she was running away.  Also what happened with Regina, last seen she was drinking wine alone on Christmas Eve?

Every second Linda Lavin was onscreen was golden. I think this may be the best episode they've done yet.

Another note of praise: this show is providing some of the best parts for women over 40 in the entire entertainment business. How many other shows you can name with so many female leads and scenes where everyone on screen is female, not there to be eye candy? Show passes the Bechdel test with ease every week.

I miss Violet more than I do Roscoe, but I think I've read that there are chances they want to be able to take with Bonnie and Christy that wouldn't work if they put the kids in jeopardy. It's one thing to hear that the kids were hurt, quite another to see it. And....that's why I actually also thought Violet had a point, and one that many spouses and children of sober alcoholics make: the person they've long wished would stop drinking now has, and they don't get the benefit.

I love love love the show, so don't get mad, but I saw this plot of woman dates her ex-husband's new wife's father (as fucking specific as it is) on New Adventures of Old Christine.  Though, at least Mom played out the plot in a completely different way.  I'll never stop being bitter that that show was cancelled.

Allison Janney is just playing the shit out of one amazing character.

Quite honestly, I think what makes Mom a better show than most is that there are no characters (except maybe Violet) where I literally cringe when they are on camera. I hate Sara Rue's character, but she's good at playing the simpering, sweet, yet manipulative role to perfection.

Though, I think there is not enough love for Marjorie out there...I love Mimi Rogers!

Allison Janney steals every scene she is in...she is just an incredible actress. She blows my mind.

This show is getting better and better.

I love Bonnie. Well, I freaking love Allison Janney. But I've noticed lately that the more I watch Mom (season 2 is currently on in Australia, and season 1 in repeats, both late at night) the more I love Marjorie. And those kitties!

Wow, Candace's true colors really came out this week. If she'd kept her big trap shut Christie never would have gone out with her father in the first place let alone discover she actually liked him and wanted to continue seeing him. Loved the parting shot "I got to drive a Ferrari."  I wonder if this is going to spell the end of Candace and Baxter. I always found it kind of unrealistic she took this stoner/loser in and rehabilitated him so quickly.

I was under the impression that she "took in" Baxter because she is super manipulative and can pretty much mold him into her version of "perfect." He wont stand up to her, and we saw last night that she needs to be in control of everything. Does she work or does she just live off of Daddy's car dealership money?

I've always loved Sara Rue. But when Candace showed up drunk at Christi's place, I lost it. I liked that they humanized her a little more through the affair with daddy storyline.

Always love Bonnie calling Marjorie, "Old Woman". :)

It's one of those days when PTV is glitching for me, but I'll give this a shot. . .

The Mom forum is hard to find because the search isn't triggered until the fourth letter, and spaces don't count.  To find Law & Order: SVU, for example, I have to enter the word "Order" and then select from the options.  No route to Mom except the alphabetical list.

Back to Mom.

I love Allison Janney, too, but it seems her comedy is getting ever bigger and broader on this show.  I caught her in two different movies this week and it was very nice to just see her fine acting, with no wailing, riding the pony, waggling her butt in daisy dukes. . .

I'm glad Christy broke up with Fred - after that dinner with Christy and his daughter, I disliked him too.  But my goodness, Harry Hamlin is looking gooooood these days!

Sara Rue did a great job bringing some sympathy to her character too.

And, just fyi for anyone out there - don't eat with bleaching cream on your face. And don't sleep in it, either; you will get a bad chemical burn.

I'm so happy to see that other people love this show as much as I do!  It's one of those quiet gems on tv - doesn't seem to get a lot of fanfare but it's a great show.

Oh and the part of Marjorie is played by Mimi KENNEDY (not Rogers).  I did a double take when I read that as I saw Mimi Rogers on another tv show fairly recently and didn't think that the actress playing Marjorie looked like her.

Well they ended the Harry Hamlin arc a lot quicker than I would have liked. I think it would have been more interesting to see Christy struggle with her feelings for Fred and her desire not to ruin Baxter and Candace's relationship for the sake of her son, rather than just having Fred turn out to be a dick (and so quickly, too). But maybe they could only get Harry Hamlin for a couple of episodes.

He really wasn't that much of a dick, until he told Christy she didn't have any business giving parenting advice. As far as his daughter goes, he has every right to feel about her however he wants to feel about her. Clearly she's spoiled rotten and unappreciative. He had a point that she's had every advantage and all she does is walk around looking down her nose at everyone else. His only real transgression was ridiculing her in front of company.

Actually I thought the point of the storyline was to get a better perspective on Candance. To show the reason behind her bitchiness. Fred and to a point Roscoe were secondary to the story.

Right you are! Oy! I can't believe I made that error.

My love for this show (and Allison Janney) knows no bounds, but would it kill them to give Christy a happy ending once in awhile??

Was surprised Kristi didn't say that her father pursued her not the other way around.

Would not have mattered. They all witnessed Fred meeting Kristi. They saw him invite her onto the golf course. It was obvious who did the pursuing. It's easier for Candice to see it the other way and no amount of truth would dent her perception.

And I second how frustrating it is for Kristi to not have some good things happen to her for a change. I knew she wouldn't get a rich boyfriend for long as it would upset the balance of what this show wants to portray but damn I wish it could have lasted longer. I love why she ended it but damn.

As much as Sarah Rue is great in the role, I really hope we don't see as much of Candace now that Christy's broken up with her father.

This show just loves having people around to treat Christy like garbage. Now that Violet isn't around much, and we rarely see Christy at the restaurant, and Bonnie isn't being nearly as mean to Christy as she was early in the series, it seems like they decided that Candace should fill that role.

But he's at fault for her being spoiled rotten.  That's the part that bothered me.  You can't have it both ways.  You can't spoil her rotten than complain that she's spoiled rotten.  I can't complain that I'm fat while I'm eating an entire cake.  it's one or the other!!

I have a theory on Candace. Candace's father seems impressed that Christy made something of herself inspite of her past. I think he is disappointed that with everything he gave Candace she hasn't really done anything with it. Does she even work at the car dealership that Baxter works at? I think Candace is the one who is actually jealous because Christy has gotten has far as she has with as little as she has and Candace has no idea how.

I really liked this episode.  Bonnie yelling at Swamp People was great.  Sara Rue drunk was a good play. lol  It did humanize her a bit as someone else said.  I know he has a right to treat her as he did, but I would have a hard time sitting there listening to it and seeing her face.  My daughter said, "You would like that show, Mom."  The thing is that she would too if she watched it.  I think it has a wider audience to tap into out there.

Funny episode and a surprising twist on Bonnie's past. I loved that she kept running into all her past lovers, no matter what meeting she dragged Christie to.

Rosie O'Donnell looked amazing! I almost didn't recognize her. Very impressive.

Loving Christy's new warmer hair color. As Jay Manuel would say on top model, "we made you a more believable blonde."

I think the color looks great on Anna Faris, but it also looks like it was done by an expert colorist at a high-end salon, so it stretches credulity that Christy could afford that.

Well then it also blows my example about top model, because such quality work would not happen there, either.

Squeeeee!  I love where this show goes so fearlessly.

Janney and O'Donnell made a perfectly plausible couple and there were no subtext gasps/winks/titters, any more than when Jesus dropped by to share some comfort and a cup of coffee.

Rosie O. looked fabu and did a great job.  And since this is the only place I feel safe saying that with zero fear of "fat cow" rejoinders--cheers to both "Mom" and us!

I thought Rosie O looked great too and I thought the chemistry between the two women was fabulous. My favorite scene was the amends scene where Bonnie apologized for using Rosie's character and she turned the tables by apologizing for plying her with booze and drugs for two years to keep her around. It was a great scene.

As others have noted, the episode w/Rosie O. was great.   I must say that season 3 has been consistently good - always entertaining and funny whereas there were a few episodes with season 1 & 2 (don't recall which ones) that were just OK.   Allison is truly as master of timing and her comedic talents were unknown to me before latching onto Mom.  I do hope Christie gets a break this season and has some good come her way.  Just about all the characters are great - especially the guy who plays the aspiring lawyer and Mimi Kennedy is a hidden gem.  I recall an episode from season 2 where Bonnie and Christie had dropped in on Marjorie at different times while she was watching 'sausage' porn - she was very nonchalant about it yet both Bonnie and Christie where startled and intrigued  - their reactions where so funny!

I so look forward to this show each week and hope it has many more seasons yet to come.

The episode with Joe Maganiello (or should I say the first episode with him, in the likely event he comes back) didn't impress me very much.

It was mostly two jokes - This Guy Is Hot, and Jill's Old Crowd is Snobby. The whole Jill thing felt like a huge sitcom cliche, with nothing to subvert it. And I might have appreciated the other storyline more if I didn't find Joe Manganiello's looks to be extremely overrated.

I liked the episode because even though Christy was tempted, she didn't sleep (or even fool around) with Julian. She stuck to the program. The thing is, with this program the characters are flawed enough that we didn't know what she would do until it was over.

Yes absolutely! Even more impressive, in my view, was that she encouraged and stressed that he find a same sex sponsor. Now, she added that line in that given his looks it was a must, but I appreciated that the show made it true to life with AA and NA programs.

I know it's not likely to happen, but I have a tiny hope that Julian, after finding a male sponsor and being sober for a few months, asks Christy out. Even if they don't end up in a relationship, Christy deserves to have some fun with a hot guy. But Julian really sounded like he's not over his wife, and I think if he manages to get sober, he'll try to get back together with her, rather than look for a new relationship.

I'm enjoying this season so far, but I just feel like it's focusing only on the AA meetings and Christy and Bonnie's friends. We don't see Christy's kids much anymore, and we no longer see anything about Christy and her job at the restaurant. Is Bonnie even working now? I"m starting to feel like this show has turned its focus solely on helping other alcoholics and while it's interesting to watch, it isn't the only topic that I want to watch.

Link to comment

Bonnie is 'working' as the superintendent/fix it person of the complex where both Bonnie and Christy live.  Christy has been studying to become a lawyer/legal type while Rosco is involved with his father/Candace and Violet with her older boyfriend.  They both have 'dropped by' a few times this season but the focus has been on Christy and to a lesser extend Bonnie.  I like that Christy has been taking the high road morally and otherwise where Bonnie seems to be having more fun than Christy.   Of course the interaction between Bonnie and Christy is critical to the show and how others react to them - IMMHO of course.

This episode was entertaining and I loved the scene where Bonnie was all gussied up and rocking that dress and Christy said 'how come I don't get to go' and Bonnie said 'cause you have to stay home and clean the fireplace Cinderella!' in a nasty tone while wiggling her hips!!!

Yeah, I'm with Blakestone--not crazy about this one.

Rich people using homeless people as a party excuse isn't all that much of a giggle.  Wealth = privilege and snobbery?  Okay, whatever.

And what the hell with all these women I like, to varying degrees, all going completely STUPID with horniness?
