Social Media and Behind the Scenes: AKA Everything Else Not "News and Media"

Wow, I was not expecting this conversation.

I too can only speak for myself.   There is a reason I am not on social media.  There is enough negative people in day to day life. Without getting into details, I deal with real bad people everyday in the judicial system so, I need a place where there is a level of respect whether your male or female.  I found it here.

There is a difference in being critical about a character or a actual person. The minute things get personal (cast personal lifes) I am out, I don't engage in those conversations, I have more important things to do. At the end of the day what they do does not effect me, so I don't care. I will never understand why anyone would think it is OK to say some of the things people have mentioned above but then again I probably wouldn't have the career I do.

I am here to watch a show and have intelligent ,  fun conversations with other people. In my opinion it's fair game to criticize  a character not the person.  Can you imagine what it is like to be judged in your career (character you play ) and be judged in your personal  life (not pretty enough etc).  Most of us can leave work at work.

It is very easy to call someone vile names when you are hiding behind a computer, but in my experience once they are caught they are not so brave.

The minute these  conversations get to the level of what LeighAn has seen, I am out.

Sorry for the rant

If I understand twitter's new policy today, verified users will no longer have to be concerned with getting hate (or love for that matter).  If you are a verified user the only tweets you will see are from people you follow.  For example, SA will see tweets from the 384 people he follows but none from his other 1.66M followers.  Removes the instant feedback of one source of social media.  Interesting.

What a strange policy.

If that's the case, I'm going to stop following all those people who don't see my tweets.  I'm not a fan of talking just to hear my own voice, I want the interaction.  I want SA to hear from his audience, not just those he considers his peer group.

Meanwhile the harassment of ordinary people is going to continue, like that 15 year old girl who got death threats because Donal Trump pointed her out.

I have yet to find a legit source for the new verified account thing. All I saw was a screenshot of text someone wrote going around saying it was going to happen. It makes absolutely no sense, though. Maybe if the verified account had a choice to set their TL up that way, but the whole point for lots of people and brands on Twitter is to interact with their base of supporters/customers. They wouldn't be able to do that if they only saw comments/mentions from the people they followed.

Anway, seems fake to me.

Yeah that is what I saw too. Guess I shouldn't trust anything without a source link.

You're right. Verified accounts have different notification options, including the ability to see only notifications from other verified account, from people you follow, or from a quality filter. Twitter recently released the last two options to the general public. It's easy to switch your notification settings back and forth so if he only wants to see replies from other famous people, he can set that to his default - and then just easily switch to seeing all replies when he wants to interact with the general audience.

And more social media good news, at least for Arrow, the MSF made it to the Daily Top Five of the Nielsen Social. It really does help when your lead live-tweets and then does a Facebook Live event. Wonder if there will be any changes to their social media during the hiatus and in the back half ....

Oh, who am I kidding? SG will continue to be incompetent and petty. The CW Arrow account still hasn't RT'd or shared anything about Felicity Smoak and The Hollywood Reporter list.

I run a verified account as part of my job and this whole thing was confusing me so badly because I didn't see an option like that anywhere - until I realized I hadn't updated my Twitter app in an age . . . And, now, there it is!

Didn't he lock and unlock his twitter recently? S now it's locked again? Why the back and forth, did something happen or is he just being a drama queen?

Pretty much just being a drama queen. This week there was a lot of talk about the sexism and misogyny in the show/fandom and Bam felt insulted and locked his account from the mean people.

I think there was also a few shots at his directing style/how he got the directing gigs too. He started blocking people and then locked his account at some point.

ETA: I say it's being a "drama queen" because from what I saw it wasn't that bad, just the usual snark and pointing out issues. But maybe it did get bad, however I think the dude just needs thicker skin?

Bamford also liked a couple of tweets that were awful towards Felicity which drew the attention of Felicity / EBR fans.  People started asking him why he would like those types of tweets, he then unliked them, which again drew attention.

He then said he often likes tweets before he's actually read them because he's busy.  I don't think people believed that....he subsequently locked his account.

I have no idea what is happening behind the scenes but the show, cast, crew and EP's are really not doing well on the social media front.

I haven't really followed the social media accounts until I found his board and read stuff on here, but has anyone ever liked anti-character/ship tweets before like this?

I'm only aware of what I've seen recently and can't say about prior seasons but Marc liked a tweet recently where in the same thread some one was referring to "Olishitty" fans, the Arrow writers retweeted the derogatory drawing of Felicity for fan art Friday before Felucity fans tweeted Beth Schwartz about it under the impression she runs the account (she doesn't) she was not happy about it and immediately the pic was un retweeted an apology issued and Beth tweeted that it should never have been retweeted in the first place, and after the MSF the Arrow writers liked a tweet disparaging Felicity Olicity fans which magically was un liked after the Olicity Felicity fans brought it to their attention.

I also vaguely recall Bamford and Marc around the start of the season get in trouble for liking and then unliking tweets that were disparaging of Felicity Emily or Olicity and fans. I think Bamford retweeted an then un retweeted an article or something where amongst a lot of comic dude bro praise of season 5 was a lot of talk about how horrible Felicity/Emily is. IIRC he got in shit last season to when he tweeted a pic of Katie and Willa and said they were the embodiment of strong powerful women or some such nonsense.

Do I think Bamford and the writers hate Felicity Olicity or Emily? No. Do I think they like and retweet that stuff because their fragile sensitive egos can't handle that their "artistic vision" isn't given unanimous and universal aclaim and so they are engaging in fist bumping with the unfortunates who are giving them aclaim- yes.

I just looked at Bamford's twitter (I still follow him from way back when as I don't go on twitter that much).  Starting on 12/8 he retweeted a few Felicity/Olicity things and also tweeted a bunch of various "be kind" memes.  He also retweeted a couple things with Felicity being one of the 50 top characters.

Just thought it was interesting after protecting his account (not sure when he did it) that he does some pro-Felicity things.  And with Steven's comments, perhaps they've recognized that they were not promoting Felicity, etc.

WHYyyy would anyone still listen to Radioactive voluntarily, Steve.

Eh, I don't mind the song but it was tainted by the scene that Stephen is mentioning.  Maybe he's in a restaurant or bar which is playing the song.

Maybe he's wishing Tommy was the one being brought back from the dead instead of LL. I know I wish I got Tommy back instead.... damn CD booking a successful TV show.

SA is slowly reminiscing what could have been.

I think if given the choice Stephen would take Colin/Tommy over any dead yet returns character they've bought back. But Colin probably got the better end of the deal.

Us too.  If they could have brought him back, I'm pretty sure we'd already be regretting how they used him.

Didn't he meet his wife in whatever he did right after Arrow?  I'm sure he definitely thinks he got the better end of the deal, and now he has a series lead role on another show.

Someone asked Patti (his wife) about how they met, and apparently they were friends before Colin was on Arrow, but didn't date until he went back to NYC after he was done with the show. Still, I agree that he probably thinks Tommy dying was the best thing that happened to him.

edit: here's her tweet talking about it right before Arrow's 100th ep.

Ah ok.  Thanks.  I had the story a little mixed up, obviously. :)  I thought they didn't meet until after his time on Arrow.

It's how CD told the story at a con at least once. If Tommy hadn't died, I wouldn't have gone to New York to do theatre and I wouldn't have met my wife.

Spoiler

The 100 fandom is contractually obligated to listen to that song, since we had yet another version of it last season. Because reasons.

I think its a bummer they haven't RT'd anything THR related, but I'm not getting the yikes outside of a bad pun.

It's a bad pun, but they rarely tweet or share anything related to EBR (from what I've seen at least) and the first thing they post is relating the character to food? (ie a piece of meat?). Why not tweet about her and the THR article and tell people to catch up on the show that has a character listed at #15/50 for favourite female characters?

The post/photo was in poor taste IMO.
