What I don't understand is the extent of Dawn's involvement in this adoption.  Why is Teresa calling Dawn to tell Tyler to tell Cate that she will call?  Why doesn't Teresa just call Cate when she has time?

I wondered about that too. Why is Dawn still involved? I figured after the initial year or so figuring out the boundaries, that the agency ceases to have a role. Carly is what? 6?  So will Dawn continue to be the  intermediary when Carly is 10, 13, 17? That's ridiculous. Clearly there are problems if B&T are communicating thru a third party.

Gary previously had a job, as some sort of health care assistant. Has he quit?

I seem to remember something about him quitting when Amber was in jail or rehab or something. He said he couldn't find reliable childcare and  his family didn't have the time to watch her regularly. I get that if he was doing home health or CNA work, then he probably wasn't making enough to pay for daycare. But Leah is in school, and I think Kristen is at home, I doubt she has a job. Once again I think it's the MTV money that allows them to couch sit all day. Why should Gary go get a job when he can ham it up for the cameras and collect a check. I want the show to finally be over because I want the MTV cashflow to stop. Then they all have to live in the real world.

Apparently Nashville started to become popular with the hipster crowd once Portland et al got more expensive with all the people moving there, so there would be demand for barbers that can do that look. I did find city-data threads mentioning it. Not sure about Chattanooga.

Taylor's Y&R shirts are decidedly un-hipster though, he's seems like a redneck with an unkempt bushy beard that got talked into a Hitler youth haircut that is all wrong for his texture. I would still like to sign the petition that Taylor be replaced on the show by his barber if it comes back for another season though.

I have actually been searching for a place to live in Portland this summer for the Mr.'s internship and the sky-high out-of-control prices are such a bummer, we have a mortgage to pay at home still so we really can't afford the Thousands of dollars some of these places want. Anyway, the last waxed mustache hipster I saw there wore knee high button up boots, breeches, and a newsboy cap, and his girlfriend looked like Pat Benatar working at a Hot Dog on a Stick, I'm pretty sure I didn't see anyone in a Young & Reckless shirt.

Gary texted Amber to ask her to call him so she could go get Leah. When she didn't call back, Kristina went and got Leah. Was anyone else wondering why Gary couldn't go get Leah? He is her father. Would it be too physically taxing for him to go get Leah? It's not like he was at a job or anything - he doesn't work. (And he is supposed to get $1000/mo for child support? My sister-in-law has four kids and gets a little less than $1200/mo. Don't get me wrong, Amber should be paying whatever she is supposed to, but that seems like a lot for one kid. Also, I'm pissed for Gary - and I don't even like him - that she can't pay her child support but has a Cadillac and went to Vegas.)

I wondered that too. Gary should have been able to pick Leah up unless he lost his driver's license or something...  it almost seemed like since Leah was sick Gary wanted Amber to take care of her so he didn't have to or maybe so she wasn't around a pregnant Kristina? Just my interpretation of things. I mean if my kid was sick and the other parent was supposed to get them for the weekend and I found out they were going out of town I would keep my child at home with me and take care of her.  I have two kids and my ex husband pays $1300 a month in child support and he doesn't make nearly what Amber does  a year and I work as well. Most of it is because of $$ daycare costs. So $1000 a month compared to what Amber makes is really nothing to her and she should be ashamed she is not paying it.  She's one of those dead beat parents who think just because they buy their kid some clothes and shoes and pay for their food the one day a week they see the kid that they are "supporting" the child financially. Nope Amber, since Gary has to take care of Leah full time you have to help pay for when Leah is at his house too. Plus she probably has to pay arrears from when she was in prison.

I'm pretty sure I didn't see anyone in a Young & Reckless shirt

And what is with that????  Maci must be getting some product placement money from the Young & Reckless people.  I noticed in one episode Maci and Shelby wearing the same shirt in different scenes.  What???? I'd never heard of these clothes until I saw Maci and Kyle constantly wearing them.  Are they popular in TN or is everyone Maci's storyline getting paid to wear them?  Personally, I think they are ugly!

Also, the lipstick that Maci is pimping is from a company that she has some personal connection to.  The owner is Britney Chisholm and she is married to a motocross racer.  So make of that what you will.

I thought I remembered him having a job too...mentioning talking to his boss on the phone back in the time of the legendary Cracker Barrel and candle dinner. Maybe he quit because MTV was paying him more or he believed Gary Time would make him a millionaire.

Gary had a job as some kind of medical assistant. They never said what happened, but he doesn't seem to be working anymore.

I can't believe Maci brought her damn dog to view someone else's house. I would be furious to find out someone trekked their dog into my home without permission. And she has time to get pregnant and buy a house, but no time at all to finish her education and at least get her associates degree. Does her boyfriend have a job?

Every time I look at these girls, I think of Dustin Diamond. Some day they too will be broke and begging for mortgage money on the Internet. It made me sad when Caitlynn was talking about not having to live in a trailer anymore, because that is exactly where she is headed once the MTV gravy train ends. No education, and no marketable skill. And spending money like its water.

Looked it up, Y&R is Rob Dyrdek's cousin/assistant's clothing line, Rob's shows Fantasy Factory/Ridiculousness/Rob and Big are/were on MTV and cousin/assistant appeared on them.

I heard Gresham or across the river in Clark Co is more affordable, but I don't know if the crime is worse in those places. NY Times kept telling people it was a great place to retire. I wonder if they looked at how many new people that metro could realistically fit. The job market there reportedly isn't keeping up with the increase in housing so it does feel like a bubble that will pop at some point. I hope you can find somewhere nice.

I wonder how much of that MTV money has fallen out of their pockets into the couch after a few years. You just know that they never clean that thing out.

It would not surprise me to learn that the house was already bought or built and the house hunting was staged. Something was always weird to me about that dumpy Maci house next to the freeway. Like she did not really live there, or it was super temporary while waiting for the real house.

Sophia is STILL doing that angry face shit? That was mildly cute when she was like 2. I can't believe she still gets attention for it. But I agree, she'd be a lot cuter with Leah's hair and a better voice and attitude. And why was she wearing the same outfit in like 3 different scenes? Colorful tights and tutu appeared numerous times on our Miss Goo.

I'm secretly hoping that C&T paid cash for that house and it won't go away. But I suspect lots of cash went April's way to clean her up. Speaking of - April and her husband look rough. And they are surrounded by empty (I'm guessing) liquor bottles as decor. April is still drinking beer on camera, so I don't know that she and Mr. April are all that together.

Well, it appears that the house C&T live in is not that extravagant, and I think they live in a fairly low cost of living area of Michigan, so if they bought it a few years ago when the market had bottomed out they possibly DID pay cash for it, or put down a very significant portion. Even if they only put down the standard 20%, if they can manage to live there for a few more years, they should have some decent equity built up if the mortgage becomes too much for them.

Something I will say for Cate- I don't think she's that materialistic or that it takes a whole lot to make her happy. Even a modest house or car is great if it's her own. She does throw down a lot of money for takeout and coffees, but I don't see her frequently getting her hair or nails done or getting lots of tattoos, and even her vacations are pretty affordable. Cate seems like someone who is perfectly happy to live the middle class life and doesn't desire a McMansion or a yacht or trips to Fiji- just a house she can call her own that she knows will always be there.

Is oversize furniture all the rage in Teen Mom land?  Amber's couch needs its own Zip Code, and those Grandma & Grandpa rocker/recliners that Tyler and Cate own look like they could swallow a person whole.

I really dislike the whole oversized furniture thing.. but I will tell you... I went looking for a new recliner and I need leather and I ended up getting one that is HUGE and I wasn't planning on buying it but the other one I wanted wasn't in stock and I was too impatient to wait a month for it to come in, so I bought this other one. AND I FREAKING LOVE IT. omg it's the best thing ever.  And it swivels so that's extra awesome too lol

Catelynn and Tyler do not live in a fancy house.  It's obviously an older house and they seem to not have the most awesome taste in decorating and paint colors. And I bet houses in their area are pretty cheap.  I'd be willing to bet their house maybe cost around $100k, if that.  Unless they moved to a city but I'm assuming they still live in the same town as always.

If anyone can find the county accessor website for where ever they live it should be easy to find out how much they paid for it.

I have liked so many of your post that I might have used up all my likes for the month.

Once again I am dismayed at how all the girls have ended up with guys who are clearly using them for their d-list fame and fortune.

Maci's man basically laid out that if Maci wants a ring, she needs to buy him a big house.  Notice the only thing he cared about in the house was the he have a giant man cave.  He gave two shits about Maci, Bently, or the new baby's needs.  He was also bitching about the ring and how was he going to get his money back if they divorced.  I bet you anything that Maci actually paid for the ring he gave her on the show.

Farrah's man does not give a damn about her.  He likes the perks of her fame and is out the door when they stop coming his way.  Her baby voice cooings of love around him showcase what a desperate and pathetic individual she has become.  I saw on the reunion Debra lamenting about everyone referring to Farrah as a porn star.  Well Debra, once the Teen Mom gravy train as run out that is going to be your daughter's only source of income.  I am not judging Farrah's for going to porn, but lets call a spade a spade.

Amber's dude is an over the hill con artist, plain and simple.  I noticed how vague he was about his job and how he has not gotten paid yet (I doubt he will be hired to work in HR).  I do not think most clubs are really wanting old looking forty plus DJs.  I am not saying that forty is old, but the guy does not seem to have any security in his life (beyond being supported by his much younger girlfriend).

Tyler would have dumped Cate long ago if not for the money.  He is disgusted by baby Nova and only talks about her in comparison to Carly (they could be twins!).  He is not ready to be a dad and this is a giant publicity stunt to him.   He is not upset they gave up Carly...he is upset that Brandon and Theresa are not allowing him to exploit her for his own gain.  Cate thinking she finally has the perfect family she has longed for saddens me.

I feel sorry for the children in all these situations.

Wait. Is there a number missing here or they bought a house for 36 grand?

I'd buy around $30-40,000 and I live in CA where it cost more than that to buy a dog house. There is virtually no economy where they live. Housing is cheap because no one wants to live there because there are no jobs. Affording the house will probably be a moot point when the MTV mobey dries up, there are no jobs. Unless they continue to work as speakers, they may have to move just to work.

  • Love 7

Cate has surely splurged her money on her family. She does not go to the nail salon because she gnaws on her nails. Tyler's mom mentioned how they have spent money on cars. She seemed to imply they had more than two cars. She was concerned about their future as far as having a steady income. For me, that scene told me a lot about C&T's spending habits.

Amber and Matt, if they remain together, will be the future April and Butch.

Yes, St. Clair ... and 35,900 was the real price.  I would assume they paid cash - it can be pretty difficult to find a mortgage for that small amount.

Some simply googling gets you their physical address but the property is held in a trust - that's why it can't be found by searching their names.

ETA:  After looking deeper into it, I'm not 100% sure they they own the property themselves either outright or via a traditional mortgage.  It may be a land trust.  I just feel kind of dirty and stalkerish if I post more info.  Though all of it can be found online by anyone.

Yep, there are some Google Images of the house, and it looks like it was a fixer-upper when they bought it.  It is clearly an older, smaller house.  There are a few houses on Zillow in that price range in Marine City, so that price is most likely accurate.  My SO's elderly aunt lives in that town, but she only watches broadcast television and doesn't know Teen Mom from Tea Bomb, so she's no help, darnit.  Never thought I'd ever be able to reference Tea Bomb anywhere, so now my life is complete.

I tried to use Google to find their physical address and came up empty, so at least you're a stalker who got results, unlike me, who is just a would be stalker foiled by google. I wonder what the reasoning was for creating a trust to purchase the house. Unless the trust was already in existence. That seems to add a complication if (or when) C&T break up.

At any rate, at $36K, I would really hope they purchased it outright without financing. Considering though that a potential mortgage is still less monthly than even the cheapest rent, it's not a bad investment. However, if they want to move, they may have some trouble unloading the house, given the dismal job market.

Haha, Darlene. That's hilarious.

I found the listing on Zillow. I'm sure my company loves how I am spending my time this afternoon. Sadly, the house was sold in 2000 for a little under $140,000. Just heartbreaking to see the economic collapse of some of these areas. Also, per Zillow, it was briefly listed for sale and then removed in 2014. Interesting.

That's the only problem with buying a cheap house in a disadvantaged economic area- unloading it!

Am I the only one who never realized Butch is Hispanic?

You said it. The house is cheap and in an area that is so disadvantaged. It is filled with people who are not working, out of work, in an area where there are likely no jobs other than minimum wage jobs.

I knew Butch was Hispanic. It was mentioned in the old threads on the other site. His last name also kinda gave it away.

Tyler and cate bought that house in fall of 2012. But zillow shows it sold in 2000 last?? Is that what you found?

(edited)

I mean, prior to C&T buying it in 2012, it was last sold in 2000. Looks like it changed ownership a few times between 2000 and 2012, but not via a property sale. Probably foreclosure.

Interesting that they had it up for sale at $100,000 but removed the listing in March of last year.  I'm surprised the tabloids didn't publicize that little nugget.

So this is what happens when you download episodes off the internet, the whole first part was not in what I watched. I was so confused by all the comments. I know sometimes I don't pay attention but i didn't think I had

Tyler's issues with the breastfeeding/formula is that breastfeeding is known to burn more calories which would help her lose weight so if she stops doing that then she won't lose the weight, ever.

Tyler, Catelynn and her family's obsession with meeting Carly is beyond me. As everyone else said she gave her up or whatever the new language is. You don't have her, that's for sure. She ain't yours. Let it go!

I don't get everyone and their need to get engaged and married. Especially Maci's friends pressuring baby daddy #2 (sorry I don't know his name) but I guess they are just feeding off her and her desire to marry every dick that has come through her door. Ryan tottttttally looked high!

Sophia is a direct reflection of Farrah and her behavior. So Farrah, rewatch your episodes and see what you are in for. Good luck with Mowgli!

Is there any social media from around that time that talks about them buying a house?  (I'm too lazy right now to look.)

The reason that I am not 100% on board w/ them actually owning that house is this:  the mailing address for the trust goes to a house in East China (Michigan, not Asia) that is owned by someone who ... 1. looks to be a professional re-habber and 2. has the same last name (fairly unique) as someone who lives across the street from Cate & Tyler.

A couple of years ago, my good friend bought a home in a suburb of Detroit that is considered much "nicer" than Marine City for $55k.

The housing prices in that area make Maci's house's price seem high, and numerous posters have commented about how cheap her house is.

Baltierra is definitely a Spanish/Hispanic last name. If you have an ancestry.com account you can search it- it's a variant of the Spanish "Valtierra"; Valtierra refers to someone who comes from the village of Valtierra in Navarre, Spain. Navarre borders along the Basque Country and it's probably actually a Basque name according to Ancestry. (Basque country is a region in northern Spain, some of which has autonomy.) Most of the Basques I've met have been on the tall and lean side, like Tyler and Butch (although I'm sure the Basques are a variety of different shapes and sizes).

[Also, I'm a genealogy/cultural geography/ethnic studies nerd.]

Butch's "racial identification" is even listed as "Hispanic" on his Michigan Dept. of Corrections offender tracking web page: http://mdocweb.state.mi.us/otis2/otis2profile.aspx?mdocNumber=262573

I noticed when Catelynn pronounced "Baltierra" earlier in the season she said it "ball-terra." The Spanish major in me wanted to scream. In Spanish, every letter is pronounced. Baltierra is said like "ball-tee-era" in English (hope that makes sense). She was skipping the "i" in it (which is said like a long "e" in English). But it's Tyler's name and he and his family can pronounce it anyway they want. :)

But Nova will definitely be able to be classified as/classify herself as a Hispanic, just like Butch and Tyler. Every one of my friends with one Hispanic parent checks either Hispanic or Hispanic & another group on census forms, etc. I wonder if Catelynn chose "Hispanic" or "white and Hispanic" on her birth certificate (if MI allows you to put more than one). Butch is Hispanic and therefore Tyler can identify himself as Hispanic as well, as can Nova (and I would guess Carly if she wants; I know a white non-Hispanic family with adopted Hispanic children who always mark Hispanic for the kids on paperwork for them).

People don't always look like what popular culture considers their "racial identification," as MI DoC calls it (whether or not Hispanic is even a race is a whole other subject). Despite the stereotypical notion in the US that Hispanic = brown-skinned person from Mexico, Hispanics can be white, fair, blonde, blue-eyed, green-eyed, black, etc. Examples would be Christina Aguilera, Cameron Diaz, Charlie & Martin Sheen, Butch, etc.

Sorry for the long post. /rant over

Hopefully Nova shows more aptitude for higher education than her parents and can take advantage of college scholarships for Hispanics/Hispanic women, as there are many available.

Very interesting.  I think you're onto something.  When it was listed for sale last year, parts of it had clearly been professionally rehabbed.

Quick reply:

I did not drop one ounce breastfeeding for 10 months. Admittedly, I'm weird.

Ryan was NOT high this time. That's why he looked weird.

I hope Catelynn and Tyler bought their house for cash. I have no idea about a trust, though.

My husband is from TN and we are supposed to move there soon. The deal is that I must be an hour out from all family and that puts us square in Chattanooga. I'm shocked at the house Maci bought for that price. I'd pay cash for it and gotten it even cheaper though. Anyway, I hope she told her boyfriend he's not on the deed until she has a ring and certificate of marriage.

Farrah? Ugh. Why was Sophia bouncing around the backseat of that car? She even switched seats and belts during the drive.

Amber's "boyfriend"? Well, maybe his skeevy ass can do her a favor and choke on a chicken bone and go back to Bwah-stawn. She doesn't have time for HIS immature behind right now. She has more important things to focus on.
