S02.E02: Murder Mystery Party

Recommended Posts

Gamble hosts her first event for the ladies: a Murder Mystery Party. Despite the 'witches' theme it's a fun glamorous night which culminates in a big announcement from Gamble. But will her bubble be burst by relevations from Janet and Chyka the next day? Stand by for fallout which may prove explosive.

These ladies wasted no time breaking out the digs this go around. So much to say that I'll have to come back after taking it all in.

Congrats to Rick and Gamble on the engagement. I thought they paid a lot of attention to detail with the murder mystery party preparation. Well done. I liked Lydia's idea for a witch. I kinda wondered if Janet had taken a liking to Rick myself. Not sure what the hell kind of witch Gina was supposed to be but it was clear she wasn't trying to get her hair messed up.

Pettifleur's performance at the car dealership was too much. Mirrors on the floor so you can admire your "landing strip?" Que? I want to believe this is her sense of humor because she's a mixed bag of WTF but I don't know. What I do know is Lydia's comment about Pettifleur being a mongrel of a woman as if that was a compliment when she couldn't identify her 'look' took me out of the moment.

I find myself liking and agreeing with Jackie so far.

ITA with Lydias 'mongrel' comment. she doesn't seem to understand what comes out of her mouth. Petitfleur and all her bitch book talk was so boring, she just wanted to say bitch 500 times. The Gamble callgirl storyline is something i can buy, even though i know Janet loves to gossip and admits to it herself.

Janet was totally trying to snake Rick from Gamble. Girl, that cryptkeeper face ain't enticing anyone, let alone someone who's in love with a girl who looks at least 30 years younger than you. Don't get me wrong, Gamble's face is frozen like a motherfucker but she still looks better than Janet sporting Michael Jackson's skeleton's nose. And Janet trying to start shit, yeah, I agree with the housewife who said the rumors started with Janet.

Still loving Chyka and Jackie, they are coming off well in these first two episodes.

Pettifleur has no idea what her book is about, I'm guessing she'll have a ghostwriter if she actually publishes something.

Janet and her mismatched nostrils are a trip. One minute she tells Pettifleur that her reputation precedes her and says in a TH her friend invited P to her party, and in the next she asks, "Who the fuck is Pettifleur?" and that no one she knows has ever heard of her. Someone can't keep her narrative straight.

I let out a big laugh at Lydia's facial expression to Pettifleur's first impression of her as "very pretentious." Lydia did ask, though. Pettifleur's assessment of Gamble brought me back to Lea Black's RHOM Season 2 tagline: I can deal with a lot, but I can't deal with stupid.

I have to re-iterate that these have to be the ugliest bunch of women of all of the Housewives franchises and that's including New Jersey.  I've never seen so much bad skin, bad hair and bad makeup in my life.  Yech!  And why did it seem that the whole episode was filmed on a soundstage?  Very odd looking.

Still loving Chyka and Jackie, they are coming off well in these first two episodes.

I don't know, Chyka seems nice but those faces she was making during the gossip reveal were giving me too much of a Betty Broderick vibe.  Scary!  Betty - http://murderpedia.org/female.B/images/broderick-betty/betty-broderick-8.jpg    Chyka -

I still love Gamble. Sad she's upset at the rumors. But, they don't bother me. I mean, I don't want her to have been a call girl, particularly, but IF she was, it seems like she's past that now. Plus, that seems like a hard thing to prove. Anyway, I find her captivating still, and I just like her.

I understood what she meant by "nouveau riche." I don't think she was looking down on Pettifleur for having started with little. I think it was clear that Gamble meant Pettifleur was flaunting her money because she's not used to it and was acting that stereotype. I'd prefer Gamble said nouveau riche because it does call up that image versus saying...yeah, she started out POOR. Wasn't the absolute best word choice, but I understood. It's like "ugly American." I don't really like the term but it does mean something...and it's not the same as saying yeah, Americans are all dumb and rude and uneducated about other cultures. It's instead calling up a specific mental image to paint a picture of a specific person. The problem that's being pointed out is rude behavior more so than starting off with little or being from America...the people using these phrases are not saying poor and American are the problems but assuming those are the reasons for the problems.

Sorry, that's long. And...may make no sense!

I am not able to get interested in this season. Loved last season. Gamble has had too much plastic surgery. Petti is awful. She was just brought in to stir things up. She is totally playing a character. It all seems too scripted.

Does Janet really think that rumors and splitting Gamble and Rick will result in her dating Rick?  She's just playing a part, right?  I don't think there has been one word out of Janet's mouth that isn't ugly and mean.  She's got to have decided that her thing this season.

I would like to applaud Gamble for decorating and serving them food and all without half an episode devoted to her having last minute disasters with food, venue and party decorations.  I say this is real money.  She called someone, wrote one check and it was done.

I think Janet's capitalizing on the void left by Andrea's absence.  The show needs a calculating bitch and Janet is doing rather nicely, I must say.  In two episodes she's backstabbed Gina, Gamble and Petitfleur (sp?).  Who knew that Jackie would become this season's voice of reason?

I'm loving Gamble (minus the voice that can reach octaves only dogs can hear)!  Especially after hearing how close she is with her partner's family, especially his kids.  I hope the rumors don't ruin their situation, I really enjoyed all the scenes with Gamble and her partner, and I usually hate date nights.

Again, I had Petitfleur pegged wrong.  I thought Gamble was going to be the Peti, Peti the Gamble.  Done with Peti.

I also had Gamble pegged wrong, because in her intro scenes had kind of a 1980s porn star vibe, in my opinion, and I thought she'd be flighty and/or obnoxious (but amusing).  So far, she's not bad.

I wonder, though, how much of that is just by contrast with Pettifleur, who's not running around asking for mirrors to look at her own, um, parts while driving; and pitching a book that's really nothing more than a semi-clever title.  Which- why would you try to explain the book's premise in such detail?  Come up with a two-sentence synopsis to promote it, then move on.

I get the feeling that Pettifleur thinks she is quite special, quite attractive. I find her very boring in her materialistic grabbiness--nothing new there, Petty! And I also find her looks pretty average, too.

She is not shocking in the least in her narcissism. It seems to be the usual among the Real Housewives crowd. I'm so beautiful I can't stop looking at myself! I love to shop! I want that car! I did it all on my own! I'm a diva! I'm demanding! I'm high maintenance!

Zip it zip it zip it.

When I hear Pettifleur speak I keep thinking it is Eartha Kitt's Catwoman from the old Batman series.  Why, why, why did she have to tell us she goes commando? That car salesman must have been paid handsomely for his filming with that woman.

Is anyone else thinking that Gamble's engagement is for her story line?

The Murder Mystery dinner confused me, I thought those had actors playing parts and you followed them around collecting clues and then everyone tries guess who done it.  Gamble was not dressed as a witch she looked more like Marie Antoinette but it was fun to see everyone in their costumes, not fun was Pettifleur in the costume shop, how dismissive she was to that salesperson.  I am sure there are quite a few sales people hiding in the stock rooms of stores when she goes shopping no matter how good the commission is, LOL.  I loved the props and such they set up for that dinner.

It always surprises me that professional men, such as Gamble's bf, favour frivolous silly women to date/marry. Yeah I get that they take care of themselves, look good trophy wife blah blah (still not sure about Gamble and her weird frozen face) but surely you need stimulating conversation and someone who is your intellectual counterpart at some point??

Case in point Gamble referring to enjoying the company of 'academics' like Gina... hmmm me thinks she doesn't actually know the difference between a professional, an academic, a botox nurse ...

Also Gamble previously dated two very rich business men in Australia - appears to be an 'academic' in the art of husband hunting.

Petti is base, boring and irritating - she also gives me the impression of downplaying her Sri Lankan heritage especially when she listed her heritage as 3/4 European. Um no. I want her and her tacky limp hair extensions to go away.

I like Gina - she is delusional about what looks good on her, but she is poised and I like her acid tongue and jibes.

Side note: I don't ever want to see Petifleur (sp?) "twerk" again!

Additional Side note: Isn't "twerking" something else?

Third side note:  I'll probably be misspelling Petifleur every time I type it.

Even though I suspect Gamble is a serial, aging rich-husband hunter, I hated Janet putting out into the universe that she's essentially a sex worker. That's foul and uncalled for.

I seriously question the validity of Pettifleur's biography. One of the women said no one had heard of her. She's essentially the new Andrea, with her boorish attempts to appear wealthy and accomplished. She's uncouth and, given her random babbles about her new "book," not very bright.

Chyka, please scrape off some of the makeup, at least in the day time. You've aged five - 10 years with that crap on your face.

I saw actual dents in Janet's face when the light struck it.

We see where Lydia gets her fame desperation - from her mother. Leave the damn dog alone. If you love him so much, pay attention to the fact that he's hiding from those stupid costumes and wants you to leave him alone. I did love Lydia's witch costume, which reminded me of Salem witches.

The show has lost its spontaneity.

Did anyone catch the look on Janet's face when Chyka said the rumors are that Gina and her partner are engaged? Janet looked like she could spit fire. As much as I detest this word, Janet is a hater. It's like she can't ever be genuinely happy for another woman.

Pettifleur is a complete mess.

It used to surprise me, until I asked a man I knew why.  He said that at work, he gets all the stimulating conversation he needs, "that's what friends are for" he said.  When it comes to a woman, he just wants to be with someone easy, not someone with baggage, not someone who will challenge him.

To each his own, I guess.

The production quality is still a little ragged around the edges, but I do appreciate that these women aren't censoring themselves with PC American-speak (cue Lydia's "mongrel" comment, which was foul but definitely something Lydia would be clueless enough to say). Speaking of Lydia, what was going on with her dog? Is that normal behavior for the breed or was it just shy about the cameras?

I loved how Gina didn't bother with a costume, just pulled a black corset out from her closet.

Can someone explain Pettifleur's math to me: I came from nothing and worked hard = I deserve that my boyfriend buy me a 450k car.  I am not seeing the connection there. If you're so fabulous why don't you celebrate your success by buying it for yourself? Oh and by the way, Pettifleur, nice crack about Rick looking like Gamble's grandfather, when your own partner appears to have one foot in the grave.

Is there an Aussie on the board who can explain Gamble's accent? She doesn't sound like any of the other women. Is it some kind of Valley-speak, or is the accent that different in Sydney?

Janet and Chyka should stop wearing their night time makeup during the day. Harsh.

I thought it was well done, too. Per Chyka's blog on Arena's (Bravo's Aussie sister) site, her and Bruce's companies, The Design Depot and The Big Group, did the decorations and food. Get those plugs in, Chyka!

Im Aussie. Gamble's isn't really an accent - I think she speaks slowly and has an impediment of sorts - so it's not an accent as such.  We don't really have regional accents in Australia, however (very generally speaking) the more broad and drawn out the accent means a couple of things -youre either from a country area and youre possibly from a lower educational background.  Gina probably has the most sophisticated accent but that's probably because she is a barrister. The others really draw our their words, for example, oh hallllooooow daaaaahhhhling how arrrrrrrre you? - that's not really an accent - its just these ladies trying to be 'fabulous' .

Love that explanation lolalempick because I've also noticed the differences in "accents" and wondered if they meant anything geographically, like we have in the US.

I believe Lydia's Figaro is an Italian greyhound. Greyhounds can be skittish and shy.

What is with the bad 70s musak/jazz music playing at the start of Gamble's dinner with her partner near the start of the episode? That was hilarious. The production value on this show is pretty low rent, compared to the other Housewives shows. The women seem pretty stilted in their talking heads and interactions with others too. Not natural at all.

WOW....I thought out American housewives were phony...these women have them al beat. They are SOSOSOS aware of the camera and are all trying to be amusing and get their camera time. They all come off as so fake...I don't think they were that bad last season. The 2 new ones are the worst....Look at me, Look at me...bleech

Lord help me, but I was amused by most of Janet's TH's in the first half* of the episode. I'm not a huge fan of Janet or anything, but I found myself liking her when she was snarking on Pettifleur's treatment of the woman who worked at the costume shop. Good on Janet and Jackie for calling it like it was. Tacky and "new money" indeed. I have worked in sales/customer service jobs before, and the most demanding people were always the ones putting on airs. (Think Teresa Guidice type.) I was often more amused by it than offended, but the truly wealthy clients often confided in me how horrifying they found the "New Money's" treatment of me. So I found this bit amusing and true to life.

I don't like Pettifleur at all. I know her type, and I'm not impressed. She seems very full of herself, snobby, and label-concious ("Where do I put my Channel?" "I want my Bentley.") and her hair is hideous (see any picture). "Beautiful, classy, sophisticated" my ass. Then she asks for mirrors on the floor so she can check out her landing strip because she goes commando. Not to mention her twerking.

Lydia (Lydiot) has to be the most boring person in all of Melbourne. She must be insanely rich to snag a spot on this show. I tune her out at all times. She's gorgeous though, so I guess she can afford to be a blank canvas.

I like Gambol so far. I love her style.

*TWC somehow deleted the episode from ON DEMAND as I was watching it and replaced it with two episode 1's, so I can't comment on the second half.

I was thinking that Gamble speaks as she does because she has had so much plastic surgery that it affects her ability to speak.

Pettifleur is just gross. And I don't want to read a book where every third word is bitch. Loved the look on Gina's face when Petti was trying to explain the content of her book. She was stifling the giggles. Methinks Gina is the smartest one in the group by a mile.

Janet is stupid and vindictive.

Oh Janet, you were one of my favourite housewives last season...what happened to you to turn you into such a nasty bitch?

Pettifleur can go take a long walk off of a short pier and take her book with her; she's foul. Moving on...

Still loving Gina and Chyka, please ladies, don't ever change.

I have no comment on Gamble so I'm reserving judgement for now.

Jackie gave me the shits last season. Maybe it was the uber famous husband, you know who was in the best band in the whole wide world, ever! She's not so bad this time around, so far.

Lydiot... enough said.

Because I'm weird I watch the back trim on Chyka's do.  You know that part right at her neck?  The kitchen?  Well that woman has her hair professionally done at least once a week because that back is trimmed to perfection in every shot.  As I've said before, that is real money.

I'm enjoying Janet as well because she is so clueless to how bad she is coming off.  I can't wait for the reunion.

I'm liking Gamble.  The fact that when dodo bird Janet sees her at the fashion think and says What you're not happy to see me?.  Gamble looked her square in the eye and simply said no.  hahahaha

Agree with all of this except for Jackie. Jackie's purpose is to be vapid and shiny and drag her husband (Ben) around. I wouldn't be watching if he hadn't inserted himself in such a large way. For some reason it just brings me back to my Silverchair fan-girly days all over again. And I am still secretly hoping his 2 former bandmates (namely my future rockstar husband, Daniel Johns....I've been saying this since I was 14, lol) will make cameos. Truly is the only reason I watch. And all the great Aussie-porn.

We’re getting to see more of Chyka’s personality this season and unfortunately (as some had predicted) it doesn’t show her in a very good light. When they were in the limo, Chyka said Gamble and Pettifleur didn’t sound like real names and then asked if they were “poor names”. This contrasts with her disapproval of Gamble calling Pettifleur nouveau riche because there was nothing wrong with someone making their own money. Gamble was simply commenting on how ostentatious Pettifleur is, not saying bad on her for making her own money.

Pettifleur is really awful, too many things to pick on. But I gotta ask, after all that time and obnoxiousness in the store, that is the costume she ended up with?

I’m loving Gina, she is by far the funniest, most interesting one of the bunch.

Janet is trying really hard to be the fascinating villain. I can’t imagine why she thinks that is a good idea.

Janet is 57??? She looks like a young-ish 75.

I was thinking the same thing. I noticed the scene of Lydia talking about how beautiful Janet looks...for her age! 56 is not considered old, except to teenagers & Brandi on Bev Hills...Eileen Davidson looks 15 years younger than Janet and they are the same age. Eileen looks natural and Janet has obviously embraced plastic surgery, Dr. Moss?!

Janet scares me for her insides and out. She's a gossip machine.

Gamble couldn't have appeared less interested in getting married to her man/wallet.   Either they've been engaged for a while and this was for the cameras or the girl was just content with him buying her stuff but not living with him b/c she'd rather not have to be around him for long periods of time.

And if that's a Trophy wife -- it must be slim pickins in Australia.  She looks about the same age to me as her fiance.  Maybe it's the extreme plastic surgery she's had, but she looks pretty darn old. And tacky with that blonde/dark hair colors.  Yep, wouldn't surprise me if she's a serial Sugar Daddy hunter.  An aging one.
