Sweet Fellowship: Duggars and Friends (aka the Bates Family and Other Featured Families Thread)

Message added by Scarlett45

If a person/family was never featured on any of the Duggar shows, and is not related to the Duggar family by blood or marriage, they do not need to be discussed here..

The Politics Policy is still in effect. A participants social media is NOT an invitation to discuss their political view points. Consider if discussion of certain social media posts will cause you to violate the politics policy BEFORE you hit the "Submit Reply" button.

We may all agree that David Rodriques is quite unfortunate looking, but let's refrain from comparing human beings to apes, its got way too much of a loaded history- please review the new Inclusion Policy updated May 1, 2022 , which details guidelines around discussing body type, capabilities, physical appearance etc. Additionally, using body size as an insult is not allowed.

My kids went to school with a Catholic family of 12 kids whose parents were insecure control freaks, who didn't value educations. They were dirt poor, and although their kids went to public school, they weren't allowed to go to college. All of the kids left home as soon as they graduated. The 4 girls got married right out of high school, 3 of the boys went into the military, and the other 5 boys went to Job Corps and never came back. Only 2 of the girls and one of the boys have anything to do with the parents as adults. I think this is what would have happened, especially with the boys, if Jim Bob hadn't brainwashed those kids with Gothard's evil religion.

I think TLC/ the show being a success had a lot to do with the older ones sticking around. Jana/JD may have stayed because I do think jana takes caring for the little ones seriously, but Josh would've high tailed it out of there (they wouldn't have been able to find him a wife and he would've found the lifestyle too restrictive), Jill may have stayed unless she happened upon a guy at Walmart, I think Jinger and Jessa would've left together with or without husbands.

No chance in Hell Josh would be around still ( IMO) if his parents couldn't pay for his 5 kids and wife.

Same with Jessa and Bin. If they didn't have the mold house, I think Bin would have fled with Jessa back to his neck of the woods at the very least.

I agree with you. Without the show Ben wouldn't have known who Jessa was, but I could see Jessa being somewhat savvy enough to attach herself to a guy that could  improve her quality of life just a bit.

Marci (sorry, misspelled in my initial post) Dauer is a fellow Gothardite who lives out here in the Bay Area. I suppose they met the Duggars at Big Sandy? Their kids, for the most part, are older than the Duggar kids, except Creepy Cooper, who I think might be about 25 now. One of her daughters is a SIL to Michael Bates through the Keilens. At any rate, the Dauers get invited to all the Duggar weddings. She posted over 200 pictures to her FB of Jill's afterparty at the compound. This is where we found out about some of the awful kitsch that hangs on the walls of Chez Duggar. She's been a goldmine of Duggar insider information after all of the weddings, save, maybe Jessa's.

I think Jessa  would always have needed to be the "boss" in the relationship. She needed someone who could take instruction well rather than someone who'd embrace the role of headship in fact rather than in name only. HBIC.

I always wondered if there were any Gothardites in the Bay Area. It's very liberal, so I wouldn't expect it to be a hotspot, but I do wonder how anyone can afford a Gothard-sized family there unless they are millionaires. And if so, millionaires are much more likely to work in tech and be educated, which is outside the usual profile of Gothardites. My mom always said that there's a reason the Duggars live in a low-cost state like Arkansas—California would be impossible to afford with 19 kids.

The Dauers have money; I think the husband is retired. I'm not sure what field he was in, but they're in San Jose, so I'll assume high tech. They also only had three or four kids, and things were more affordable here when the kids (save Cooper) were being raised. But they're the only Gothardites I know around here, and they're the pants-wearing sort. The daughter married to the Keilen son lives in AZ and wears Daisy Dukes and bikinis around her kids. I think they've really relaxed on Gothardism or gone straight-up fundie lite or conservative Christian.

The Dauers are a strange bunch.

Oh gees? I get to San Jose occasionally for work. It DOESN'T strike me as a Gothard hotbed.

Does Marci have Cooper/Jana designs? I need to google this guy.

He just seems to loom over people and is a chronic photobomber. He just seems squicky.

Holy moly, JD is flying MORE Bateses back to Knoxville tonight, IF he can get through the storms in the middle of the state. He's already been delayed almost half an hour. Poor guy; he pulled an all-nighter last night getting some of them back home in time for whatever the Bateses had going on.

Great. Because sleep-deprived private pilots flying in cloudy foggy unsettled weather in the dark aren't dangerous to themselves and others. Not at all.

@Churchhoney don't forget to add he is piloting a forty year old, mechanically is unrealible aircraft.

That plane is a turboprop, not a turbojet.  The plane does not fly as fast as a jet.  And it has been out of production since 1986. Finding spare parts for that clunker must be difficult.

From Wikipedia: "Concerns have been raised about safety in operating the aircraft; there have been 337 fatalities from MU-2 crashes.  As of October 2005, the United States Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) undertook a safety evaluation of the aircraft. It concluded that the aircraft has met its certification requirements: It is safe when operated by properly trained pilots who operate properly maintained aircraft. The FAA is in the process of mandating training specific to the MU-2, as it has in the past for other aircraft. When such mandated training was required outside of the U.S., the MU-2 accident record was vastly improved."

I hope John-David took those special courses.

Jim Bob probably bought that plane at the local thrift store.

Buy something proven to be unsafe and save the difference.

Thankfully, it doesn't appear that they got off the ground last night, and I haven't been alerted about any new flight plan. I guess church comes first; they can always fly back this afternoon/evening.

She's a partial Gotharditess.

Here's Marci Dauer's story on the Gothard organization website:

http://iblp.org/questions/new-age-movement-pathway-god

Boy these people are so proud of their decisions to reverse surgical sterilization - whether the original decision was made through responsible family size planning, financial responsibility, or concerns for their wife's mental health.  And how shocked they are by God's miracle when they become pregnant after REVERSING sterilization.

Humans, animals even, become pregnant from regular sexual activity if nothing is done to intervene. It's not miracles, it's biology.  If they weren't so busy denying science they would probably figure that out.

"That night, the Lord woke up Marci and told her three things."

Good thing old Marci must be more accommodating to getting woken up in the middle of the night. I'd tell the Lord it could wait until the morning.

Michael and Alyssa were bridesmaids at a wedding on Saturday, so I assume they didn't attend Joy's wedding. But enough Bateses, including Lawson, did; JD flew the 10-seater. If they made it to the wedding, they were certainly sleep-deprived, as they didn't land in Knoxville until 3:30am.

Much nicer dresses than Joy's Ross bargain bin messes.

Nope. Her waist is as tiny as ever.

Forgot that Carlin was likely one of Joy's bridesmaids, so Lawson and probably Josie chaperoned her to AR. I wonder if Gil and Jelly bothered to go, or did they just send some kidults?

Yes, they look joyful and radiant. I can believe the women in that photo are friends and it's a happy occasion. The only natural joy I've seen come out of the duggar kids in that way are interactions Jinger and Jessa have had. Those two care for each other a lot.

I agree. Jessa may be a bitch, but if it weren't for her Jinger would still be stuck at the TTH.

I found her FB but was unable to locate the Duggars photos.  Just some with them at Big Sandy.

But Marci posts lots of photos of inside the homes of her (rich) friends.  Like every room.

She post hate on President Obama and love on Trump.

I would love to find the photos of the Duggars home.

She deleted the slew of pics she posted from Jill's and Jessa's weddings. Apparently, she got wind that "we" had found them and were spreading them around the internet. LOL I forgot to check her out after Jinger's wedding, but maybe she got put on notice about publicly posting pictures on FB (although I've seen plenty of after party pics on IG public accounts).

Another Gothardite family that God put on their hearts to reverse a vasectomy, thus having another (unwanted) child after 25 years of marriage.  That must be Creepy Cooper!

And what the heck does abortion have to do with a vasectomy? It's not as though vasectomies cause abortions. But his statement about how he decided to reverse his vasectomy was immediately proceeded by something about how Marci changed her mind about abortion. I've heard the line that fundies feel that some forms of birth control 'cause' abortions but, um, basic biology would tell you that if the swimmers ain't making it to the egg (due to said vasectomy), ain't no fertilized egg, ain't no pregnancy and thus never could be an abortion.

Very true. I get the feeling that their brand of logic implies that preventing the swimmers reaching the egg is an almost-abortion. A preemptive abortion perhaps. I'd like to hear a fundy explain their reasoning on the blessed reversals.

Complaint department: I am in Canada and don't get to watch the Bateseses. I'm missing out on much of the fun in this thread.

As I understand it, it's all about being open to however many children God decides to send to the couple.  So to that particular viewpoint anything that stands in the way of conception is wrong.

I feel pretty sure, it's having the vasectomy at all which is The Sin.

Cooper Bauer, by the way is, according to his LInkedIn-- "Actively seeking an engineering internship"

Which is interesting since he doesn't seem to have any training or experience that's relevant to this. Right now he's managing events for a company that does robotics. But I'm thinking that the events management person and the engineers seldom even see each other in the hallway.

And it seems likely that most of the engineers who joined the Gothard cult have probably stopped being engineers and are now working as lawncare specialists, engineering generally requiring interaction with non-Gothards and all, in most cases.

Yeah, I agree that Allie Jane will probably end up as a brunette. I was totally bald for a year, then a towhead, but honey blonde by the time I got to kindergarten. My hair has gotten progressively darker as I've aged. I was commenting on them as they look *today*. And their eye color? It could change, mine have over the years. I started off about as blue eyed as you can be, only to morph into blue gray, gray, green gray, now green. Go figure. :)
