Maybe I'm just over the whole Hallmark thing.  I don't care for any of the new stars or any of the recent stories.  There were maybe 2 or 3 Christmas movies I would re-watch from this season whereas there are several from the last 5 years that I still watch regularly.  I went into On Demand last night to find a movie to watch.  Scrolled and scrolled, didn't recognize many of the titles then when I clicked on More Info, I thought, 'oh yeah, that one.  Horrible.  Next.'  I finally settled on Lake House, an oldie with Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves (not a Hallmark.)  Cheesy and dumb, but I thought it was 100x better than anything Hallmark had on offer.

Tomorrow's movie is another Cindy Busby offering, this time with Christopher Russell, he of the wooden acting but almost guaranteed shirt removal. Tough call.

This times 1000.

No.  F* no.  I am not watching this stupid Love In Action.  Cindy Busby yells every line and she just had a hissy because someone had defaced nature by carving their initials in driftwood.  'I hope it didn't hurt the tree.'   Christopher Russell is fat and we're going to spend 2 hours on the psychology of why that is.  I think I will tune back in at 5 minutes before the end to see the inevitable reveal.

  • Love 3

Note to women watching a potential love interest interact with his ex:  if she kisses him on the cheek, or if they hug but there is no body contact below the shoulders, THEY ARE NOT GETTING BACK TOGETHER!!!!  No need for you to treat him like shit because he was respectful while saying goodbye to someone who was once important to him.

  • Love 5

I hope somebody can sort  this out.  I hadn't seen any promos for Love in Action, the CIndy Busby thing, but this morning when I went to find a promo on line it said at the end "Only on W."  And indeed I am pretty sure my Hallmark channels here (western U.S.) had the Lacey Chabert wedding veil movie last night, the Feb 5 they were promoting.

Looked up "W" and it seems to be a Canadian entity.  So I have to figure they're making some movies that they're showing first -- or only -- in Canada?  So confused.  (Not that I'm eager to see that Busby-Russell combo again.)    Thanks to whoever has a handle on this "W" business !

I started watching Heartland when it began airing on COZI TV last year on Sunday mornings. I'm further ahead now though since the FilmRise channel on YouTube has almost all the seasons there and with an app I use to access YouTube on my Fire TV I can watch without ad breaks. I went back and forth on liking her character on that show and by the time they wrote her off I was happy to see her go. The character was written into a corner while at the same time Cindy had gotten to be pretty annoying too.

I've watched a lot of Hallmark movies in my time and have seen Cindy's name mentioned in this thread various times. I mention that because I'm not sure if I haven't seen her in Hallmark movies besides Love in the Forecast or if I have and just forgotten those. I watched Love in the Forecast a few days ago when it aired on one of the three Hallmark channels and it was a struggle to get through even while fiddling around on my computer while doing so.

I saw the mention of Love In Action above and didn't realize it was a different movie from Love in the Forecast until I looked them both up on IMDB.  Damn these movies with similar titles and the fact that both of the movies have Cindy and Christopher Russell as the main leads so just Googling made me think there may have just been a name change for Canada.

Damn I can babble a lot about Hallmark related stuff if I'm in the mood to.

W Network is indeed a Canadian network.  The 'W' was for 'the Women's Channel' when it originated but was changed to just 'W' some years back.  We don't have the Hallmark Channel here, at least with basic cable, and we have several channels that carry Hallmark/Lifetime/Whatever movies, but W is the go-to for new movies and the Countdown to Christmas-type movie seasons (February is Loveuary, I am sorry to say.)

They are not the same movie.  I have seen both of them.  Interestingly, the Guide has a generic picture and no details for Love In Action.   Basically, Cindy Busby is a strict fitness/health trainer and Christopher Russell is a James Bond type actor who has recently gained a bunch of weight and needs to lose it for an upcoming movie role.  I couldn't stand it for more than 15 minutes and I did go back for the last 15 minutes in case he took his shirt off (he did not) so I know nothing about the story other than they got together in the end even though they appeared to have no chemistry and she was insufferable.

The first Hallmark thing I remember CIndy Busby in was Royal Hearts, the one with Andrew Cooper (British, like him a lot), and James Brolin (who also directed) as her father, who had to his surprise inherited the "crown" of the usual tiny European country.  It was fun and had good energy.

A great number of her subsequent movies have been disappointing, but were lacking the script and James Brolin.  I can see why she's not popular around here.

Oh, and thank you for sorting out the various networks and sub-networks!

W picks up movies from many different places. Busby films an absurd number of movies each year for different production companies. Love in Action is one of those. None of the US channels picked it up. In first aired in Portugal last year as In Action. Than W picked it up and changed the name to Love in Action. Hallmark, UP or GAC may pick it up eventually and air it in the US probably with another name change.

Yes, as a Canadian who watches these movies on The W Network (which also seems to air a lot of Peacock shows like the Saved By the Bell reboot and Girls5eva), I can never tell if the movie is Hallmark, Lifetime, etc.

I could not handle Love in Action after 5 minutes.

A bit off topic but I've been watching Letterkenny, a comedy show about a Canadian small town and uh, they have a slightly different take on small town magic than Hallmark.  It's making fun of how weird small towns can be (and not always in a good way) and how they feature a population of everything from rednecks to Mennonites.  But related to Hallmark, in the latest season, Tyler Hynes shows up!  And man his character is a big change from Hallmark; here he's a kind of slimy butt kisser who cusses a lot in a very thick Canadian accent.  I'm happy to report that Tyler does comedy beautifully and you can tell he's having a lot of fun with the role.  Highly recommended for fans of his who don't mind off-color humor -- fair warning, Letterkenny definitely ain't Hallmark.

No, but it is hilarious and reminds me of most small towns here in Canada.  You're more likely to run into a roving band of hockey players than a group of people planning a pumpkin festival.

I used to really like Autumn Reeser, but for some reason, she’s grating on me.  She just seems to have developed an attitude of some kind that makes her haughty.  So, I’m not sure I’ll watch her Wedding Veil movie.  Not only that, but what’s with that woman and hats?  If you’re going to wear hats, wear them the right way.  She plops them on the back of her head, so it looks like she doesn’t want to cover her face in any way, but she looks silly.

Oh my gosh the previews for that new Wedding Veil movie just grate. She looks so silly   In that hat. Also the annoying part at the end when the guy says “ciao Bella” makes me roll my eyes. LOL, I have the channel on in the evenings when there is nothing else on but between the same movie preview over and over and the terrible “ask your doctor” commercials I end up just shutting off the tv.

Omg - I posted the same thing here and here  I don't know what it is about her, but - yeah - haughty and smug come to mind

As for the 'Ciao bella' - all I can say is that at least they cast someone of Italian heritage for his part and not some American actor faking a bad Italian accent.  The scene that makes me cringe is when he's speaking Italian and Reeser is going, "More....more Italian".  I want to smack her with one of her silly hats.  Yes, it's a beautiful language (and I'm of Italian heritage), but it's not for your amusement or swoon-worthiness

It’s irritating the shit out of me. “This wedding veil just keeps getting more and more interesting.” Kind of playing fast and loose with the word ‘interesting.’ Can’t wait for Saturday when the damn thing airs and I don’t have to see it anymore. Just like I’m happy to not have to see the Butlers in Love promos, hopefully never again.

Everyone will be happy when the promos for this week’s Wedding Veil movie are over; the hat has taken on a life of its own. But I’m sure the promos for the Allison Sweeney version will start immediately. And be endless; but hopefully  they won’t be as irritating.

I appreciate the fact that Hallmark is not ditching older actors but I do think it reflects the target audience. I don't think the younger generation has much interest in the saccharine, repetitive, sappy stories that Hallmark is cranking out for a dime a dozen.

  • Love 2

I FINALLY saw Butlers in Love all the way through. Staci Farber looks just like she did on her Degrassi days (damn I’m old). I liked the premise, scenery and the chemistry between the actors.

It was one of the best Hallmark movies I saw in a long time.

  • Love 1

Well, bankerchick,  I can't say I watched the entire Wedding Veil Unveiled closely, but the scenery was lovely and the guy was very pleasant.  A couple of side-stories, tracking down an old mystery --  a little bit different, and not a Pumpkin Festival in sight, so that was good.  Worth a try.

  • Love 1

The Wedding Veil was okay but I really enjoyed The Wedding Veil Unveiled.  The Italian scenery porn oh my god!  The whole thing was pretty romantic!   The guy was hot too!  So rare to see actual sexual chemistry in one of these movies.  I definitely recommend.  I'm eager to see Alison Sweeney's movie now.

I thought W aired Hallmark movies for the most part?  Some Hollywood.  I don't recall seeing any Lifetime on there.

Thanks.  Casablanca was wonderful as usual.  I've set the PVR to tape the overnight rerun and will watch Wedding Veil Unveiled tomorrow.

Personally I liked it, and more than The Wedding Veil, although clearly it is being mocked mercilessly here.

You could be right.  I never know if they are Hallmark or some other company.  I think Lifetime movies actually air on Lifetime, but I also see a lot of movies on OLN or CityTV and they are certainly Hallmark-type movies, but no idea if they actually are unless I see the opening credits and it specifically says Hallmark.  I guess there is a GAC network (though I think that's new) and also UP.

  • Love 2

Surprisingly, I actually liked Wedding Veil Unveiled a lot. These were likable characters, a fairly believable romance, and a plot that doesn't involve anyone seeing the SO with another person and jumping to ridiculous conclusions! PLUS, they actually did a reasonable amount of research into Burano lace-making and history. That's a lot for Hallmark these days.

Paolo (very cute) wasn't your typical smarmy guy looking to hook up with an Americano for a green card. And great scenery, can't beat that.

Didn't care for the original The Wedding Veil, so didn't expect much from this one, especially given the level of criticism here, but I liked it enough to recommend and that's rare. I'll watch the next one because I like Alison Sweeney, but I'm not expecting it to be as enjoyable as this one.

  • Love 3

Surprised myself with really liking Wedding Veil 2. The first one was a bit bland but the sequel was quite good. Paolo Bernardini was effortless sexy in it and I thought him and Autumn had good chemistry, hope Hallmark put him in some more films, hes a star

The plot was a bit thin and stuff like the Italian family conducting their business meetings in English for no apparent reason rather than use subtitles was a bit annoying but didn't take away from my enjoyment of it too much.
Fingers crossed that #3 is as good.

  • LOL 1
  • Love 2

OK, Wedding Veil Unveiled might not be the worst Hallmark I've ever seen, but it would be in the top 5.  Or 3.  I hated everything about it except for the Italian scenery.  It started off badly with a typical Autumn Reeser scene:  I don't care if there is a long line behind me, no I don't need your help, I'm going to learn how to use this machine all by myself!!  There was chemistry but I just didn't care about them or the story.  Given all the cameos we saw over Christmas, we couldn't get Kevin McGarry in a scene at his wife's best friend's wedding??  And endlessly pimping the next movie during commercials kinda spoiled the scene at the end where the veil is returned to her (though that's more the network's fault than the movie.)

Yeah.  I find some of the newer guys they're using to be sexier than we usually have.  I was a little hesitant because if they needed to put Autumn in a movie with an Italian, why not Antonio Cupo? (Yes, he's Canadian but he has worked in Italian TV before too.)

But I ended up liking the Paolo actor as well.  He had an effortless sex appeal which is perfect for Hallmark because goodness knows they'd never accept trying to be sexy.

Overall I enjoyed it because I was cooking at the time which helps me get through the slower parts.  And while they did do some research into lace making (or maybe it was the author of the original book?), the rest of the "In Italy, we be like this...." talk struck me as having Emily In Paris syndrome. It felt like the writers were basing Italy on the old fashioned notions of how Italy is presented in their 7th grade language class as if capitalism and hustle and bustle passed them by.  Sure, they can do 3 hour lunches.  But I think it's pretty rare for that to be a daily occurrence.

Veil 2 was ok, and the only thing that saved it was the Italy porn and Paolo.  I know I’m being picky, but what the hell was Autumn thinking by caring the precious veil in a paper sack?  I mean, it was just shoved into the bag, and not even in something to protect it.  And then of course we have those damn hats, plopped on to the back of her head.  Finally, where did all her clothes come from, seeing how she specifically commented that all she was taking fit into a carry on.

And after finding out it had a snag in it, the blond just grabs it, bunches it up, and tosses it someplace to take back to get it fixed.

Yeesh, Italians stereotypes much?  Big, jolly loving family having big old feasts for all occasions?  Three hour lunches (as mentioned above)?  Not all of Italy is still in the 18th century.

This is NOT off-topic, I think.  In the Super Bowl, did I just see a Kia commercial with a Hallmark hero in it at the very end?  I think it was Sam Page, but could be wrong.  (The one with the automated doggie trying to follow the electric Kia.)

If it wasn't Sam Page I'm still pretty sure it was another Hallmark hero.   I just love to see actors working, it's a tough business.

I came here specifically to post about it. I’d rate this higher if it weren’t for the idiocy of all the speaking in English among people who had zero reason to speak English amongst themselves!!! I’d let it go if they only spoke English when in the company of a non Italian speaker (Autumn’s character) or specifically trying to improve their English skills). I mean, the show did have 2-3 subtitles so why not subtitle the family exclusive scenes?! So dumb!

It was spoiled the minute it was announced it was a trilogy.  But the other route it could have gone in as that she lent it to her friend once her use was over to keep the curse alive. And she could do that because she was becoming part of the family.

The third Veil movie was okay, I guess.  But it became mostly background for me. I think last week's was the best.

I did raise my eyebrows because it seems like AS's character actually lived with her ex boyfriend before he left at the beginning of the movie. And considering that, she moved on damn quickly.

I was also confused by Autumn's character talking about how she's trying to learn Italian but Paolo is trying to improve his English so they've been speaking that mostly at home.  Huh?  His English was pretty terrific. Her Italian is terrible.  And they're going back to Italy again for her class.  You'd think it'd be the other way around.

They did bring back LC's husband back for this movie but I guess they didn't want to spend the money to bring the Italian husband back to the US just to film this.

It seemed like a waste since he only had one line in the movie. He was pretty much a glorified extra who was dancing with Lacey at the last wedding.

Although I’m not a fan of Allison, this was the better of the movies, mostly because of Victor as the male lead. Kevin’s accent annoyed me and I didn’t care for the actor who played Paolo (he just seemed a bit dull and his appearance reminded me of a skinnier version of the Italian guy who used to be on Grey’s Anatomy).

Agreed.  I liked this movie the most of the three of them.  I love Kevin McGarry, despite the bad accent, and was glad to see he at least made the wedding this time, but it's hard for me to get past Lacey Chabert.  I liked neither Autumn Reesor nor her love interest and their story was so boring.  I really like Victor Webster, who is not in enough movies, and even Alison Sweeney was tolerable this time around, I guess because she wasn't the usual bitchy, difficult person she normally plays.  Although the '(name I don't remember) was my mother!' revelation by Grandma was a little rich.  First of all, it's just too over the top, as was the story of the earrings being from the same painting, but secondly, was the old lady's mother really the only person with that first name who arrived via Ellis Island?  And now Autumn and Alison are cousins by marriage!!

Also, Victor's character had 3 sisters, yet apparently only one of them could make the wedding?  They couldn't have picked two random extras and had them sit at the family table or hug their brother?

Sooooo much this to all the bolded.  As for Victor Webster, I will always have a soft spot for him from his time as Nicholas Alamain on Days of Our Lives. (I also liked him on that cheesy X-Men ripoff show Mutant X).

  • Love 1

I only know Victor Webster from his Hallmark movies and like him a lot. I liked the 3rd of the trilogy the best, perhaps because it took place in NYC and I'm a Brooklyn born gal. I don't mind Allison Sweeney and I'm indifferent to Lacy Chabert.  I think my main issue with Lacy is that she's always portrayed as this great beauty and to me she's just average in looks. I love grandma's husky voice and always enjoy Paula Shaw, although I'm not quite convinced of her portraying an Italian nonna. Michele Scarabelli, who played Nick's mom, is absolutely gorgeous!  I see that Matty Finochio, who played Allison's work colleague, is in another Italian-themed Hallmark movie next weekend. I was actually surprised he's of Italian ethnicity and I adore his last name (minus a missing c) which means fennel.

I thought Allison had an interesting job and I liked all the food references. I squealed when Victor was telling Allison the desserts he had planned for the gala dinner b/c he said SFOGLIATELLE, which is my favorite Italian pastry, ever!  He didn't quite get the pronunciation 100% but I forgive him. sfogliatelle.jpg.893340605b092422c883aa3a252017dc.jpg

Just one nitpick wrt cannoli perhaps because I am Italian-American and also was a foreign language major, cannoli is the PLURAL form. One of this delicious dessert is cannolO. Un cannolo. More than one of these pastries is cannoli. It grates my ears when everyone says cannoliS.

  • Love 3

My takeaways from the last two Veil movies:

Unveiled: Emma must be an expert packer to have squeezed almost a months worth of dresses, suits, jeans, tops, jackets, coats, dangly jewelry not to mention toiletries, etc into that most sized roller suitcase. Also, Allison Sweeney looked to have put on some weight since the last movie. That purple bridesmaid dress did her figure no justice. Could they have least given her a better supportive bra?

My late Dad would agree. He was a huge Giants fan, even though the Jets used to play at Shea Stadium, which was much closer to us than the Meadowlands stadium.
