AHS Wish List: What Is Your Dream Season?

Question: What and/or whom would you like to see in a future season of AHS? One of my suggestions is a season set in Roswell, NM in 1977, when Star Wars and Close Encounters Of the Third Kind came out. It could be a story of a team of fake alien investigators who wind up battling the real thing, with terrifying consequences.  The team could be played by Michael Chiklis, Walton Goggins, Jay Karnes and Kenneth Johnson, as a shout-out to The Shield. The cast could even include Richard Dreyfuss, either as the Mayor of Roswell, one of the people who summoned the aliens or-gasp!-as the voice of one of them.

I would also love to see a season set in the 1940s with an American Theater company which is scheduled to perform the so-called "Scottish play," only to be plagued by a series of "accidents" and deaths because someone who didn't believe in the curse dared to say the name-Macbeth-out loud.

Here's the thread for any plotline, casting or even musical suggestions for future seasons.

My fiance and I were kind of discussing the Roswell idea the other day when trying to guess what next season could be. I mentioned to him that there were apparently "clues" in the season premiere about next season...one of which was Jupiter, Florida and the other was the song "Life on Mars"...meaning something alien/space related. I like your idea of setting it in the 70s.

MORE.LILY.RABE!  Do whatever plot you want next season just bring her back.

I know this is mean but I kinda hope her show on scify tanks so she'll come back to R.M. and do more AHS.  While I like this season of Freak Show it's missing her.

Well according to rumor they are going to connect all the seasons so what I want is that evil baby thing they hinted at the end of Murder house.  Maybe all grown up.

Has anyone seen the movie Needful Things?  Devil Baby grows up and buys a small shop in the middle of a small town and sells what people want and need most for a price that is just a bit more then they are able to pay.   I think Ryan Murphy could do something with that.  Add a few other genres, an alien or two, and maybe the plot from Cabin in the Woods and you have a Ryan Murphy presentation.  .

I brought this up in another thread but my first thought is something that would be based around a cult possibly more than one and have it take place during the 70s. A mixture of Jim Jones, Children of God, Heaven's Gate, Eternal Values, maybe even throw in characters inspired by figures like Ervil LeBaron, David Koresh, David Miscavige, Warren Jeffs, etc. (I know they aren't all from the same time period but I can see Ryan Murphy having fun playing with characters who are based on any of these people and others.)

Second idea is something related to Cannibalism. Flashbacks of the Donner Party, references to Jeffrey Dahmer, Silence of the Lambs and Dr. Hannibal Lecter, maybe thrown in something from an indigenous culture that practiced it.

Third idea is something that brings the show back to old Hollywood. Go into some of the unsolved mysteries of the time like the murder of William Desmond Taylor. The story of Fatty Arbuckle and Virginia Rappe. The death of Thomas Ince. Incorporate figures like Charles Chaplin, W.R. Hearst, Marion Davies, Mary Miles Minter, Mabel Normand, etc. Maybe run with the idea of the "California Curse" only make it more dangerous and gruesome somehow.

They already kind of did that with Murder House. There was an episode with the Black Dahlia and the Lindburgh baby. As much as I would love to see some of the old Hollywood mysteries, especially the death of Thomas Ince, I think RM would do that story a disservice. I'd rather watch Hollywoodland or The Cat's Meow all over again.

I had thought one possibility might be H. H. Holmes' hotel/torture dungeon and the murders at the Chicago World's Fair, but I think this season is too similar for that to be workable.

Maybe the "real story" of the lost colony at Roanoke? The 1924 attacks on the logging camp at Ape Canyon? Something to do with gangland violence in the Prohibition Era?

Oh, I know that's why I said it would be bringing the show back to old Hollywood. Plus the stories that I mentioned all take place in the 1920s so putting the show in that time period would give it a very different feel than Murder House even though I know that Murder House too had its own 1920s/1930s subplot with Lily Rabe and Matt Ross.

Also, I thought both Hollywoodland and The Cat's Meow were lacking in various ways so I wouldn't mind seeing what Ryan Murphy could do with some of the stories I mentioned particularly William Desmond Taylor. It's amazing to me that the murder of WDT hasn't been made into movie yet after all of these years. There's potential for a lot of interesting characters and incorporating a lot of real life figures.

The Cat's Meow was rushed IMO and had a bunch of script and casting issues. I liked the overall look of the film though and though Jennifer Tilly and Joanna Lumley were especially good in their roles of Louella Parsons and Elinor Glyn.

I don't mean to post this again but I thought maybe it would fit better in here. I wonder if next season will take place in a concentration camp of sorts.A few examples of what make me feel this way are: Elsas accent, setting up "camp" in a new town, imprisonment, the snuff film from Germany, also the freakshow deals with the idea that people who look different or act different are not right or deserve to be kept out of town, out of everyday society. That was very much the attitude when Hitler was in power. Ryan seems to have taken this turn after season one where the show is focused on how society deals with those that aren't "perfect" or those that have social issues. Having it take place in a concentration camp makes sense to me because that was a time where fears of those that were "different" were really out of control.

ETA: Elsa wants to be a star. Star of David?

I know it's not that "American," but something with gypsies.  Gypsies terrified me as a kid, and creep me out as an adult.  It might be a little too similar to the Freaks thing, though, because they are also a very close knit community that is not very welcoming to outsiders.  But gypsies.  Gypsies.

So each season has a different theme or setting. So what is your fantasy dream season? If Ryan Murphy came to you and asked what season you would like to see what would you pick?

I would pick a setting in the 1800's, in the wilderness with a Donner Party feel to it. Having a group getting lost in the wilderness and cue crazy!

Or civil war era and actually have bell witch storyline! That was one of my disappointment with Coven that they really didn't have supernatural bell witch added to it. I just would love to see America Horror do something really old school all season along.

I like the idea of delving into preweirded historical events, preferably ones that not everyone knows.

For instance: check this out: http://history.rays-place.com/ca/sm-pascadero.htm Gold Rush Pescadero was kind of like a West Coast version of one of Stephen King's weird little towns, complete with rich madman oppressing the locals, and his widow dying under questionable circumstances. ( read up on Loren Coburn of Pescadero- the Pebble Beach incident, and the Pigeon Point incident. Guy was a basket case.)

Or... Dare we dick around with a Slender Man plotline?

Oh! I like those plot ideas! I am surprise they didn't add slender man to asylum. Have a patient going crazy seeing someone there or not.

At least replace that plot with the aliens at least.

If there were a season involving Gypsies, chances are that members of the Gypsy community would be offended by it, if they were all villains. Gypsies may not be the most friendly group in the world, especially to outsiders, but as far as I'm concerned, saying that they're all bad is like saying that all freaks are bad.

I don't know if this is the right place for it but I would love to see a season without Evan Peters and  Emma Roberts. I just am not into them and they seem to play the same part every season. I know Lange does as well but at least she is a good actress. As far as storyline ideas it would be interesting to see a take on the Waco Tx siege or a season set in the future. I would be curious to see RMs thoughts on what our future will be like.

I'd really love to see an old-fashioned closed circle murder mystery (think "And Then There Were None") with supernatural elements gradually being folded in and getting more and more disturbing. Maybe a rich family and their servants during the Great Depression.

My wish list of actors I DON'T want on a season:  I want a break from Emma Roberts and Gabourey - I don't appreciate their acting.  I like Denis O'Hare as an actor, but the characters he's played are so repugnant, I'd rather not even see him.

I'd like a season where Kathy Bates is the major character, and Jessica Lange plays the supporting role - hoping the Emmys and GGs won't ignore Kathy.  I know they touched on it (not very well) on Asylum, but I love demonic possession and suspense versus full on torture porn (which the show has become).

Yes! Sort of Downton Abbey, but a horrific murder mystery. Maybe on an island. Or a good version of Harper's Island.

Something historical, but I would be more interested in England (and Europe in general) than topics about the American slave and massacre of Indians era (great topics but not for my dream AHS season) so I guess it has to be American, so I'd prefer something isolated. Something with the Donner party could be cool.

Space could be fun, but I'd be worried it'd just end up a mix of Alien and Event Horizon. But without the fabulous older cast members.

I'd love to see a season without Evan Peters too, and Emma Roberta can go with him. Top billing for Frances Conroy, please. Or her being the main villain. Or both.

The problem with this show (for me) is that the writers have crammed so many different themes and subplots into the seasons that a lot of what could have been used as the subjects of entire seasons would now only seem redundant.

For example, serial killers pop up in every season, no matter what the theme.  A whole season about a serial killer could have been riveting, but now it would just seem tired.

I am always a fan of good old-fashioned demonic possession in movies or TV shows -- but not in a church or some sort of religious setting.  To me, I always found it the most chilling when scary things were happening in a totally "normal" environment -- like in an apartment.  Something so simple as the scene in the first Paranormal Activity movie, when the girl is seen standing next to the bed for a long time, just staring at her boyfriend, was scary.  But, alas, there was a dash of possession thrown into the Asylum season, and Season 1 of AHS was supposed to essentially be a haunted house, and now anything similar would seem redundant.

I've always thought that demonic dolls and objects were scary -- that's why I loved shows like Twilight Zone and Night Gallery, and old TV movies like Trilogy of Terror -- but that theme has been overdone everywhere but on AHS.

I've always liked the idea of haunted hotels and scary wax museums, but those ideas seem tired too.

Aliens were touched on in Asylum (even though they seemed totally out of place), but I definitely think that AHS could handle some sort of "invasion" plot.

If voodoo hadn't been incorporated into the Coven season, it could have stood on its own as a theme for a separate season.

The old sci-fi movies and TV shows about giant bugs and creatures running wild and killing people were always fun -- and the creatures were usually the products of some experiment gone awry, or the result of nuclear fallout or whatever -- but I don't know if I can see Ryan Murphy going down the "giant spider path."  That's probably a bit too cheesy for this show, which is already cheesy.

Great subject!  All I know is that I have to have Lily Rabe, Sarah Paulson, FRANCES CONROY, Kathy Bates and maybe a new older female actor to replace Jessica Lange ( sacrilege! I'm assuming she really isn't coming back) in the story for me to be happy. Oh, and maybe Chloe Sevigny.   Evan Peters is always welcome. I would simply like to see him play an emotion other than rage. He's such a good actor.

Male wise, I would love to have James Cromwell back along with Quinto, Huston, Joe Fiennes and the new favorite for some, Finn Wittrock.

I'm obviously more into the actors than what the storyline happens to be. Hmmm.  Asylum really spoiled me.  In my personal opinion, the show has to be led by the women.  Who could ever top Sistah Juude?  What does Ryan Murhpy want to depict?  Each season he appears to put more and more gay male scenes in ( which I happened to be quite fond of ;) ), but is he wanting to go more along those story lines when it is no longer a star vehicle for Jessica Lange?  Only he knows.  I like all the ideas discussed above. Although I can't really think of a story, I do know that RM has already gone so deep into physical and psychological horror that wherever he takes us is going to be very strange..at the very least.

Oh, and whatever he does, I agree with a lot of people that want it to take place in the "70's". That was a crazy decade. Horror at the Disco of Death!

Ohh, if we are talking dream cast.  I want Dylan McDermott back. Sans mullet and in a larger role than he had in Asylum.

Also, I certainly wouldn't mind John Carroll Lynch coming back. He's awesome. And I'd love to see him and Finn Whittrock working together as different characters.

My main wish is that I want Dennis O'Hare to play something other than a creep. I actually liked the complexity of his character from S1.  I would like to see him playing a flawed but still vaguely sympathetic person, so we could see more of O'Hare's range and not have to deal with another Stanley.

I am all for taking Emma Roberts out of the equation, but I feel like Evan can stay if they write him a consistently compelling character. Obviously, Kyle was a thankless role. And I feel like Kit and Jimmy both have saddled EP with dumb or boring plots, though both characters are not terrible. I just want to be wowed again, like I was with Tate and I feel like the writer's are the ones preventing this from happening. Better for EP to go on to more fulfilling things than be underused.

Bates, Conroy, and Rabe in the lead roles would be my dream!

Since 1970s cults and cannibalism are both popular ideas, I think it could be great if the main storyline from a future season combined both. It could be about the disappearances of several prominent young people who could become cult members and anyone who tries to leave could end up as human sacrifices.

My wishlist. For this show to have a contained good story, not a billijilion disjointed plots going on at the same time.

Most of the time this I feel like I'm watching things happen instead of watching a story unfold.

American Horror Story: Titanic/some doomed sea vessel pre 1940 and must cast Evan & Taissa (as a couple please), Jessica, Sarah, Lily, Frances, Jamie & Naomi

And If they could Kevin Spacey to be in it, that would be awesome.

Well Evan Peters and Kevin Spacey filmed the movie Elvis and Nixon together earlier this year. So 2 of the actors you mentioned will be on screen together so you got half your wish lol.

I would love a season with a mounting sense of horror with characters I'm invested in , not just random deaths and blood splattered.

The MO of Ryan and Company is to treat characters and plots like a chessboard with pieces that get wiped out and replaced every other episode.

Awesome, Thanks, I didn't know about that, interesting.

To add to my doomed ship wish, maybe they could do something with the Bermuda Triangle also. Conventional ideas I know, but I think Ryan & Co. could spice it up.

ITA about the "And Then There Were None"-inspired plotline or even one inspired by "10 Little Indians" or "The House On Haunted Hill,"  about a group of disparate characters invited to spend a weekend on an island in order to win a fortune, only the place is haunted and several of the guests die gruesome deaths. Bonus points if Ma Petite and Paul the Seal Guy are included, but only if they're not killed off.

I would like a season with murderous dolls, automobiles that are alive and kill people, and rabid animals. So obviously a cross between "Child's Play", and Stephen King's "Christine" and "Cujo". They could also revisit the demon puppet storyline from "Freak Show" so Neil Patrick Harris and Jamie Brewer's characters can return (and Ryan Murphy and co. can claim the season links to previous seasons). All of the inanimate objects that become possessed can be attributed to some type of voodoo curse that can link to "Coven" and herald the return of Angela Basset's character from that season. Oh, and we need more minotaurs! This show definitely needs more minotaurs.

Since the show's been renewed again, I'm bumping it up with my suggestion that since this season used RM's take on vampires, the next season could involve his version of werewolves and/or cannibals in the Wild West.

How about AHS:  Shit Makes Sense!

Instead of just things happen in one episode and something totally different happens in the next episode and nothing the characters do, say, or how they behave matter because they will do, say, or behave in a totally different manner in the next episode.

The first time I ever saw Kevin Spacey was in the 80s.  He played Mel Proffitt and as I recall, there was a lot of "on the yacht" time.  He was awesome.  "The toes knows."  He'd be great for stunt casting.  (Bowie would have been perfect in the Gaga role, 'tis true, but I can see why he "wasn't available.")

ETA:  That was in the wonderful "Wiseguy".

Kevin Spacey will be a great addition to the cast. Maybe a crossover with "House of Cards". American Horror Story: The White House, with Spacey playing a Donald Trump/Ted Cruz type President will be a horror story for sure.
