Two women talking about a third woman can get brutal.  The fact that they all do it is interesting.

I absolutely love when characters in a show dump on acting.  I find it kind funny in a dark way.

A douche from a family of wankers…..Does kinda sum them up.

You rob a jewelry store in a hotel you gotta take off your sweatshirt before you hit security gate.   That is robbery 101.

“I almost died but I got the room comped” could be the theme if the entire series.

I think I am rooting for the monkeys.

Wait, who was the robber?

I'm loving watching the three best friends brutally backstab each other. It's cracking me up because I find none of them likable.

I would hate to go to this kind of resort. Random monkeys? Open windows so bats, bugs and birds fly in? No thank you!

The siblings continue to gross me out.

The sweet security guard should walk away from Mook and not look back. I think she's going to cause a lot of damage to him.

I really love Walt Goggins and I was thoroughly delighted to watch his unexpected transformation in the space of one episode. I'm a cheap date.

The dress Jaclyn wore to dinner was hideous. It looked like something a drag queen would wear to Mardi Gras.

I'm starting to think Mike White has a big problem with women. First the "funny" mean girls of Season 1 and now these three catty female friends. It's like the only women he knows are all on Bravo reality shows.

Still have no idea what Rick's issue is. Maybe he's tied up in the same money scheme as Timothy.

Who is Valentin? I'm blanking on him.

I'm viewing this basically as a soap opera. If I don't expect more of it than that, it's OK. Polished and slick for sure, and lots of money thrown at it, but it doesn't much rise above the level of any other soap opera. Which is fine. I've indulged in several soaps in my day.

Of course Saxon would be the first character to make some kind of crack about women in Thailand secretly being men/boys.  He would definitely be all over that stereotype.  He really manages to go under my already low opinion of him.  He is the worst but honestly, I do think this episode showed why he is the way he is, because he clearly seems to be the golden child and his parents; especially Victoria; go out of their way to encourage and maybe even reward his bad behavior.  Not excusing him, but he was probably always destined to be this kind of fucked up with those two raising him.

On the flip side, I'm kind of curious to see what is in store for Lochlan/the youngest son, because there are moments where he does seem disgusted with his families' behavior, but then there are other times where he is laughing along with it or being inappropriate as well (the way he started questioning Piper about her sex life.)  I can see him either freeing himself from his family at the end, or maybe becoming just as bad.  Piper though seems to have a good head on her shoulders and just needs to get the fuck away from them ASAP.

Timothy is in deep shit, it seems.  And the internet seems to be confirming that it was in fact Ke Huy Quan playing the nervous accountant/money launder over the phone.  Fun cameo, but I hope he isn't off the table for a future season.  He'd be great on here!  Really, just get the entire Everything Everywhere All At Once gang for a season.  Quan!  Michelle Yeoh!  Jamie Lee Curtis!  Stephanie Hsu!  James Hong!  Make it happen, Mike White!

The best friends group continues to be going out of their way to gossip and pit one against another: all under the guise of fake concern and "friendship."  Noticed that it seemed like it was Leslie Bibb's character who was really going out of her way to stir the pot.  Still find this group to be more cliched than norm, but I can still see this all going in a wild direction.

I'm guessing Rick's interest in the hotel owner and her husband might be connected to whatever happened to his father.  Certainly seems to want to follow her to Bangkok.  At least he showed a little emotion over Chelsea being in danger, but he's still kind of a wet rag at this hotel.  I mean this in the best way possible that Walton Goggins is kind of doing a great job toning down his natural charm and charisma, and just making Rick come off pathetic and unlikable.

Belinda recognizes Greg... err "Gary's" face, but doesn't quite know yet where she's seen him before.

I wonder if something will come out of Victoria and Kate/Leslie Bibb meeting each other in Texas ten years ago?

Gaitok, buddy, just stop!  Nothing against Mook or anything, but history has shown that this will not end well for you!  It looked like he recognized the second person who was in that getaway car, so I imagine this isn't the last we'll see of the robbery story.

More ass-shots from Schwarzenegger Jr., and Mike White must have felt the breaths of HBO execs breathing down his neck and threw in Aimee Lou Wood's breasts this time as well.  HBO has a quota to fullfill!

I swear, even the monkeys seem to be thinking "These motherfuckers!" anytime they popped up.  Smart animals.

Season is still young, but I'm still mainly on Team "Belinda, Chelsea, and Piper make it out in one piece: the rest can suffer!"  Gaitok and Lochlan might have shots too, depending on their actions in future episodes.

They feel so real to me, and shows the danger of traveling in a group of three.  First you start off by talking about how wonderful the missing person is, then it turns into trash talking, followed by a restatement of how wonderful they are!

The North Carolina family remains the worst.  The lack of boundaries between the kids is creepy.  At this point, I'm just preparing to be disgusted by all of them.

Not sure what to make of that robbery.  I'm surprised a resort that seems so expensive doesn't have better security.

As a small note, I did want someone to give Jason Isaacs a second take when he was screaming into the phone at his business partner.  His real accent came out pretty clearly!

Lochy stared at Saxon’s bare butt a little too long.

Timothy “only made $10 million” from the shady deal that he’s worried about.  Time zone difference is inconvenient but didn’t he choose to bring the whole family to Thailand?  Piper doesn’t even like this kind of resort, she’s so spiritual — though she’s taking advantage of the amenities.

Saxon adds racist stereotypes to his repertoire, the Thai massage happy endings and there being a lot of lady boys.

Victoria thinks she’s too good for actresses and non Tar Heels, blows off Kate.

Resort has all that bling?  Gaitok may get in trouble for letting the robbers in.  Will Mook give him a chance?  Doesn’t seem like she’s going to, maybe concern for him being okay gets him out of the friend zone?

He may not want to have heard Tim’s conversation.

Rick is on a mission though he gave  half-hearted try to be civil with “Gary.”

Holy wow the interactions between the Victory Lap ladies is too real.  I found it interesting that for the rest of that day Jacqueline seemed to cozy up to Laurie that day and Kate was the outlier especially after the Biometric test comparisons.  But then it ended with Kate and Laurie shit talking together.  And Jacqueline seemed to be somewhat aware of what they were doing.  Interesting.  Future girl trip planners: four!  The magic number is four.

Walton Goggins knocked it out during his treatment giving the character some extra dimensions.  He also seems to know what Greg is about even if Belinda hasn't quite placed him.

The Ratliffs continue to pile on the cringe with Saxon at the foreground.  Not only do we have Lannister vibes but possible Oedipal vibes with Saxon and Victoria? Still looks like Timothy's financial shenanigans are coming to a head.

We definitely haven't seen the last of the robbery storyline. I also want to know about the infamous 10 year ago baby shower Victoria and Kate attended.

I know a few people are saying that the friend group is cliche and not very realistic but I know friendships that are exactly like this.   My sister had one all through highschool and they remained “friends”  until they all started to have families of their own.   That is the thing.  This kind of friendship only works when everyone in it is kind of bored and miserable.   They talk a couple times a year and my sister just got a rambling text about how she was a terrible friend but then she is the only one with a functioning marriage and family.    I think there were hints that the friends only see each other periodically so I can see them growing apart as their lives moved on but instead of helping each other through the hard times they gossip and bsckstab.

One of the things I noticed about the Ratliff is how they all laughed like hyenas (or maybe since the theme is monkeys -like a group of wild monkeys) when Saxon made an inappropriate joke during dinner.

I just love every Parker Posey scene. Her interaction with Kate was so uncomfortable.

I feel like every season things gradually develop until the last two episodes when it goes crazy so I was actually surprised we already had a robbery here.

I think the sibling vibe is just Saxon being super uncomfortably overly sexual and trying to coach his brother how to grow up, Piper seemingly normal for now trying to stay out of the weirdness, and Lochlan very inexperienced and curious trying to figure things out with help from an older sibling who's a bad influence.

Yeah, I'm expecting and dreading an incest story line for them based on what seems like foreshadowing in this episode. I hope the kids are all adopted from different families.

And the Thai lady's husband may be Goggin's father or know something about him. When he heard the man was ill he suddenly had to leave the resort.

I did not have armed robbery in the resort jewelry shop on my White Lotus crazy bingo card.......Tim spiraling...Yep and the Blonde Blob shit talking each other behind each others back ....yep....Greg changing his name and being too dumb to change it a lot....yup....Parker Posey being uppity to the Blonde Blob...absolutely.....seeing Chelsea's breasts....for sure.....but armed robbery, no way.

Someone pointed out after the first episode how the Ratliff kids looked like the "see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil" monkeys at one point. There's definitely some primate symbolism going on with that family.

The way Lochlan stared at his brother's ass, seemingly with lust in his eyes, makes me think there's more going on than just looking to Saxon for guidance.

Was it his brother's butt or his sister's butt? I couldn't really tell who was in the bed when the camera angle shifted to the front, and I'm watching on a fairly large tv.

i know his brother wanted to share a room with him, but so did his sister and I'm not sure where he finally ended up. I guess I'll have to rewatch the episode and maybe pause it at the right spot.

I had been thinking that the lady's husband may be Rick's father, that he had lied when he told the stress-mgmt woman that he had been murdered. Buy maybe his dad really was killed, and killed by the husband (as someone else here said). Nothing definitively leads me to a conclusion yet.

I like Mook and Gaitok together. I think they're so cute. She's always nice to him, seems to really like him, so I don't get why she won't date him. She didn't even turn him down clearly. Maybe she likes tougher guys, like those security guards...

... which leads me to say I wonder if they were the ones who robbed the shop.

I'm enjoying the three girlfriends. They are each two-faced. I wonder if everything Kate said to Jaclyn about Laurie and her daughter are really true. Laurie's daughter Ellie being violent, getting kicked out of two schools? Maybe it is true, but of course lots of gossip is way off.

I was wondering about Jaclyn seeming to overhear what her friends were saying, and then smiling a bit and walking away like it didn't bother her. Hmm.

The family is the worst, except for Piper. I don't have any problem with her. Yet.

I think Lachlan is a virgin and very curious about sex. I'm not sure that he's attracted to his brother; it's just that he's thinking more about sex. Maybe he's kind of wondering what the big deal is.

So creepy that bald guy staring at Piper during yoga. Ugh.

Saxon is just an absolute pig. There is nothing redeeming about him. Of course he would get an erection during the massage.

Victoria is another terrible person. I'm not crazy about Kate, but Victoria was so rude in how she interacted with her, or rather how she refused to interact with her.

Do we know what kind of (legitimate) business Timothy is in? Maybe investment firm? Anyway, he's in deep do-do.

Enjoyed watching the dinner with Rick, Chelsea, Gary, and Chloe. Gary evading Rick's casual question about what he did for a living was fun, and Rick gave it right back to him.

I also liked seeing Belinda recognize Gary/Greg -- almost.

The resort owner, Sritala, has a beautiful voice.

It sure didn't take long for guns to be pulled this season, we already have a robbery in episode two. I feel like that snake bracelet that Chelsea wanted and noted the robber taking will come back later to reveal who the robber is. Rick did at least give Chelsea a hug after the robbery, I am wondering now if he wont end up not being such a bad guy before the season ends.

The Victory Lap trip is so accurate it hurts, those three person friend groups can be just brutal. The whole "she's so great, I love her so much...but oh my god can you believe" sort of gossip was way too real. While the power dynamic so far has been Kate and Jaclyn with Laurie as the less successful one on the outside, Laurie was quick to switch things up and start gossiping with Kate about Jocelyn, even while she could easily hear them. It felt like a bit of revenge, which Kate was thrilled to egg on.

The Ratliffs are all kinds of fucked up, between Tim and his shady business, the bitchy bill popping of Victoria, and whatever is happening between the siblings, they are a ticking timebomb. Saxon is such a creepy asshole that he actually makes me miss Shane from season one, at least he didn't seem to be sexually attracted to his relatives, even with the mamma's boy energy.

They are definitely going for a monkey sort of motif with the Ratliffs, the constant chittering laughter, the kids being in the "hear no evil, see no evil, speak no evil" poses when the show started, the weird physical contact. Now with Saxon projecting his weird sexual energy on his siblings, will it end with monkey see monkey do?

The ending shot was eerie, the little resort surrounded by the gigantic jungle filled with monkeys howling.

Good episode, advanced all of the storylines by just the right amount to keep us guessing as to what is going to happen.  As with the previous two White Lotus seasons, almost all of the characters are horrible people.

It was fun seeing how catty the three friends got when one of them wasn't around.  Seemed very real to me... they start off talking about how great the third person is and then it devolves into mean criticism and gossip.  We were supposed to feel bad for Laurie last week at being the third wheel, but now we learn that she is no better than the other two when it comes to being mean.

The Ratliff family, yikes.  Tim got involved in some kind of illegal deal and it's only a matter of time before the FBI gets him.  Saxon is self-absorbed and creepy.  Locky stared way too long at Saxon's butt.  Not in a brotherly "oh here he is naked again, come on man put on some clothes" way.  But in a lascivious "I want this butt" way.

Belinda doesn't seem to be getting much story so far other than she seems attracted to Pornchai who is supposed to be her colleague/mentor on this exchange program.  Seems like she vaguely remembers Greg, maybe it will lead to him being found out.  He seems to have inherited all of Tonya's money since he's been "retired" and living in Thailand where he hopes to avoid the authorities.

I don't really care about Gaitok and Mook and he's about to cross the line into creepy.  They've been colleagues and friends for some time, he made his feelings known, she rejected him with "eat your lunch", and he should leave it at that.

Don't really know what's going on with Rick and Chelsea.  I think Chelsea said she is from Manchester?  She sounds exactly like Juno Temple's character Keeley Jones from "Ted Lasso".  When she first appeared, I was wondering if it was actually Juno Temple.  I can't remember if they ever said if Keeley was from Manchester.  I know Jamie Tartt was from Manchester but they never specified Keeley's origins, did they?

Not sure if Chelsea is actually a prostitute or not, she could be.  Those big buck teeth are a bit distracting.

I've never seen Walton Goggins in anything before, and it appears he has quite the following.  I've seen multiple comments in this week's episode thread and last about how charismatic he is.  I'm not seeing it at all.  He must be one of those actors that everyone raves about but somehow I don't see the hype.  Jensen Ackles is another one that befuddles me.

And above all... Tonya, who was generally an awful person.  Awful and self-absorbed in Season 1.  Awful and self-absorbed in Season 2.  Treated Portia terribly.  She realised too late that her husband and his friends were just as awful.

To be fair to Mike White, I think most of the characters on his show, not just the women, are terrible people.  Jake Lacy in Season 1 was an angry, awful person.  Theo James was a pretty vapid and self-absorbed person. And he is continuing that in Season 3 with Patrick Schwarzenegger.  The role of the 20 something attractive male on Mike White's show is to be awful to pretty much everyone around him and to show off his butt.

Last week's episode ended with Saxon shutting the French doors on the bathroom.  This week's opened with Locky staring hungrily at a butt.  It was most definitely Saxon, the camera moved to show the view from the other side and it was Saxon.

To be fair season 1 had Shane and his "I want to speak to the manager." energy,   Season 2 had a father and son fight over a hooker.     Season 3 has Saxton a guy who talks about nothing but sex.

These are all horrible people.  Mike White writes tropey characters and then pushes them to the extreme of bad behavior.    It's the entire point of the series.  Bad people will be bad people even on vacation to paradise.

I felt the same way, that Kate is the one that starts the back stabbing conversations going.  The others joined in pretty fast, though.  I think part of it is that they don't really have anything to talk about anymore.  They have very little in common, except for growing up together.  But their current lives have diverged so much they're practically strangers to each other, relying only on past stories to bond.

I got the impression she recognized him, and the look on her face was disgust/disappointment on how her "friendship" with Tanya turned out.   He was a reminder of what she was promised and then what didn't come to be.  Either way, I really can't wait to see where that goes.

I love that Rick so quickly realized that Chloe was a high priced hooker for Gary.  I loved the bit between Gary & Rick about "what do you do", oh yes, I do a little of this a little of that, too.  I think they both know each other had something shady going and knew to stop it there.  I can't figure out Chelsea, but I don't think she's a hooker.  Otherwise, she would have picked up on Chloe and not been so surprised about Rick making the hooker comment.

That whole robbery of the gift shop just seemed weird.  Why would a robber go after the gift shop, let alone that type of resort?  Nobody uses cash in those places, everything is on credit or charged to the room.  And I don't think the jewelry in the gift shop would be valuable enough to justify that type of risk.

Piper is no longer dressing like a sister wife, so that's an improvement.  There's a story behind Victoria and Kate.  That whole "I remember you" interaction was wonderfully awkward.  I'm already bored by Saxon and Timothy.  Sorta bored with Mook and Pornchai Gaitok, too.

I want more Belinda.

Saxon's erection during his massage was gross.  The masseuse clearly noticed and was creeped out.  I see Saxon getting rejected by all of The White Lotus's guests and female staff and not taking it well.  Did anyone notice him giving the once over to their waitress at dinner (or ladyboy)?

I'm bummed out that Jason Isaacs looks so much older than he did as Lucius Malfoy in Harry Potter.  It always upsets me to see actors growing much older, as I am.

(edited)

I think the robbery was an inside job. The Russian wellness guy seemed to purposely distract the security guard with flattery, allowing the truck to get through. Also, the owner happened to leave for Bangkok that day, so employees know it’s easier to get away with it without the boss around. Working with the Russian might be the two tough guys with the guns in episode 1 that Mook and Gaitok said to stay away from, or something to that effect.

I think the gift shop has very expensive stuff in it. After all, it's rich people who stay at the resort. And I stick by my theory that it's the two security guards who robbed the place. They would be familiar with what was in the shop. They knew their way around.

I agree that Saxon is gross. Not just his erection, but his whole being. Ugh. Yes, the masseuse saw his erection and didn't like it.

I don't think Saxon was checking out the server in a lascivious way. I think he recognized that the person might not be a woman. I don't mean to be insensitive or incorrect. I don't know if 'ladyboy' is a legitimate term -- I assume not -- or if it's commonly used, at least by some people. Since Timothy actually said it, I'm assuming it is not an acceptable way to refer to people.

Oh, yeah, definitely an inside job.  Funny thing... I didn't even realize that was Valentin (the Russian guy) when I was watching it.  I thought it was just some random guy/employee that Pornchai Gaitok knew.  But most definitely he was blocking the gate open for the black SUV to drive in, and distracting Pornchai Gaitok so he didn't stop them.  And I also agree that the two guys in Ep 1 that Pornchai Gaitok warned Mook about are somehow involved.

Maybe expensive for hotel gift shops, but I can't see it being Cartier/Tiffany jewelry shop expensive.  Their first target was to ask for the cash drawer.  And no one would be paying for stuff there with cash.  Something just seems off to me about the whole thing.  If this were an Ocean's movie, I'd say this wasn't the "real" robbery, just a distraction for something bigger going on in the background.  But I'll take it for what it is in this show.

I was in Thailand 15 years ago, and the term was commonly used, and not in a derogatory way.  Ladyboys were referred to as the "3rd gender".  They were quite common, especially in hotels/resorts.  One place I was at the front desk clerk was male, wore the men's uniform, but had a bit over the top make up and feminine hair do.  Not quite to the level of drag style, but much more than any of the women.  That seemed to be common, I saw it pretty much everywhere I went.  I don't know if things have changed since then.
