Castaways must choose wisely as they split themselves into pairs at a crucial multi-staged Immunity Challenge.  The deck is stacked against castaways when they embark on a journey that can drastically affect their game.  Then, different names are tossed out at camp as paranoia ensues, leading to another crazy Tribal Council.

This is the episode's actual discussion thread for after the episode airs.

It was a no win scenario for me when it was down to my two favorite players Sue and Sol.

What a bunch of dummies not taking the shot at comp beast Kyle when they had the chance...and Sam is still in the game....why?

No just no to the giant bats.

Getting vote back comp gets a 10 score for creativity and the location. Well done.

Why go through the charade of sending Caroline to the voting booth?

Sierra shows up with classic b#$%h face on.

Dang it, I really liked Sol.  I don't even think his paranoia did him in as I think the vote was staying on him regardless.  I hope he gets the chance to come back and play again, maybe with a better crowd (I hope he learns some table manners in the meantime because I didn't need to see that burp contest between him and Gabe).

I had been liking Genevieve but her targeting Sol solely for revenge seems petty (same with Sue and Kyle).  Everyone voted Rome out in a landslide.  Rome was insufferable to Sol.  I don't even know what made him such a good ally.  I am just glad Sol didn't get completely blindsided.  Now Rachel may have to do damage control and I'm curious if the Tuku's are going to find out what was up.  I can't believe they wouldn't take a swing at Kyle when they had the chance.

One big highlight was seeing the jury walk in again.  I loved seeing Sierra and her 10th RUP in the Survivor beauty pageant's mad face.  I also don't think Sam is the threat he thinks he is, otherwise, they would have gotten rid of him first.  And Andy still thinks he's some kind of diabolical mastermind but he's really just everyone's spare vote.

Idiots, take out Sol, when you have a comp beast sitting next to you, I do like Kyle tho, so hope he goes on another immunity run.

Sol was the one I liked the best, so I'm bitter, and  I really couldn't pick a favorite of anyone left, so I'm pretty sure whoever wins will be someone I hate per usual.

Omg Sol, Kyle,Sue,Sam..indecisive  much?
Sams big move was Sue? She does give a lot of info to Gabe. I really  felt they'd  vote out Kyle, as soon as he didn't  have immunity,  of course  they didn't  do that, and I'm glad they didn't

Sierra came in with her , 'I hate you all' look.
I liked Sol, poor Teeny will miss him.

Not me. It's been a while since I really had no idea who was going and who would make it to the finals. There's so many possibilities (Andy even) that I'm enjoying the strategizing. I liked Sol - but I also most the other people also.

I think Caroline goes to the voting booth because it's what they do in case people don't know who's lost a vote.  As for Sue - I like her personally and wouldn't mind her winning, but I was hoping she'd go just because her face gets harder to look at each week as she loses more weight.

I smelled a bitter jury last week and Sierra did not disappoint tonight!!!

I'm so glad we had every single player on the journey explain what it was they had to do in that challenge in slightly different wording. I never would've figured it out otherwise.

Andy is just a real liability in challenges, isn't he? He always seems to be making things more difficult than they need to be. I mean I'd probably be making the same stupid mistakes, but still.

Another blah episode where things get more complex than they needed to be, and there was rampaging whispering during Tribal Council. Also, one of the smarter (or at least saner) people goes to the Jury.

All I can remember is wondering where Teeny got her bear shirt.

Sol was the one of the only few people that I found tolerable. They should have went for Kyle as he has good chances of going on an immunity run. The Gata members didn't get on my nerves tonight. Surprised that Rachel didn't want to alert Sol that his name was being brought up for elimination (though she let Sam know) seeing as how he literally saved her before.

I liked it when Jeff brought in Sierra from the jury instead of the person just sitting there already at tribal. I hope he continues to "bring in the members of the jury" every tribal council like in past seasons. Sierra looked pissed off. I wonder if she will be bitter.

Why is the show obsessed with the players losing their vote? It's not entertaining, it's stupid and unnecessary.

Is anyone else starting to get bored by these 90 minute episodes?

I've been watching from the very beginning...with all the changes, etc. But this season is all over the place. Consequently, I find myself fast-forwarding a lot of the extraneous dialogue.

Well since Genevieve is my least favorite -- I can't stand corporate lawyers let alone ones that want revenge -- this wasn't a good episode for me.

And Sol was my favorite.  So double bad.  I loved that Sol burped like we all are suppose to do.  Our bodies know what they should do, they are smart that way.  Only in the West did some Miss Manners type in ages past decide that a natural body response was somehow wrong.  Thank goodness that creep didn't condemn sneezing and coughing as well.

I liked that Sam tried hard to save Sol.  He and Andy and Teeny are my remaining favorite players.  Rachael is growing on me a little too.  But poor Teeny having to vote for Sol at the end or make herself the next target.  Really felt for her.

I don't know what was going on at Tribal Council but, minus the result, I loved it.  I love that time ran out before things were "locked up" before they had to go there and they had to make decisions on the fly.  I love Tribal Councils when they get up and talk with everybody and the confusion and chaos here with the very helpful subtitles ... it was a joy to watch. Not so much the result though.

Now the Gabe tribe team has a very strong position in the game since they seem to be sticking together.  And helped in that by the damn corporate lawyer from another tribe.  Bummer.

I’m sorry to see Sol go but that burping was making me gag. I would have lost it sitting next to him.

Sam was an idiot for pushing so hard for Sol.  Agree to anything to keep the target off you!

So Rachel did use the SITD to see reactions. Smart lady. I hope she continues to fly UTR.

Kyle is such a cutie pie. I was afraid he was going to be voted out but the idiots felt Sue was a bigger threat?  Hope he does an immunity run to the end.

I think it's almost unethical for a dentist to whiten someone's teeth to the point of looking like they're wearing a boxers mouth guard all the time.  It's as bad as a plastic surgeon tightening a 45 year-old woman's face to the point that she has to keep pursing her lips forward to prevent the whole thing from snapping back to her ears.

I'm just happy Kyle's still there.  Idiots.

The editors seemed to be borrowing from the Big Brother playbook.

This season is rapidly headed towards a winner I can't stand. With Sol gone the only ones left who haven't pissed me off are Kyle and maybe Teeny. And most likely case scenario, final three will be some combination of Andy, Genevieve, Gabe and maybe Caroline (who?).

Blech.

So...stupid to not do Kyle.

And, Andy mentioned using someone as a vote (forgot who he said). But isn't that what sent him into revenge against his alliance? Pot meet kettle. Also, I feel like we're getting an Andy win edit. Please no!!!

Genevieve is gaming hard. They need to get rid of her not Sue. Sue is a dud to me. No threat. Amazing she is hanging tough at her age (NOT 45). But not a mastermind. Her #1, Gabe, is more the mastermind so they need to chop that head off the snake.

Sam...I am not a big fan but don't dislike either. He is vanilla. Has huge ego I guess. But I am down for his revenge.

Caroline is odd. Not sure if I like her or not.

Rachel...I liked her and was glad Sol saved her. Loved the idea of those 2 working together. But man is she a backstabber. So I hope she gets got hard.

I like Teeny but she isn't cut out for this game. But I am rooting for her.

Wish they still did Ponderosa videos. Would love to see bitter Nelly and Sol and what all they talked about.

Actually, I think it's Gabe who looks like he has extra teeth.  Or ill-fitting dentures.

I can't believe they didn't take what might be the only opportunity to get rid of Kyle, but am glad they were too dumb to do it.

I felt bad for Sol when he was being terrorized by Rome, but the burping was just gross (while it may be 'what we're supposed to do', it doesn't need to be a big, giant wet one at the table while others are eating) and otherwise, he did nothing for me.  Not glad he's gone, just don't care.

A few observations:

  • Totally shocked Kyle didn’t take the Walk tonight, but also totally ok with that (country boys gotta stick together, donchaknow).
  • Still, Sol was one of the few remaining contestants (along with Genevieve and Kyle) for whom I felt sufficiently engaged to root - so THAT part still blew chunks.
  • For now and forever, Andy remains a legend in his own mind.
  • Teeny seemed real torn up about Sol’s departure, especially considering they were writing Sol’s name down along with the rest.  Considering we’ve all been given the impression (multiple times, even) of how scary it is to vote against the House*, though, I’ll cut Teeny some slack - this one time.
  • I'm not particularly a fan of Sue’s - if you think the difference between 45 and 59 is that glaring to a bunch of Millennials/GenZs, then you really need to learn how to read a room better - but I'm also inclined to allow Sue some wiggle room as well; she’s simply part of a generation who were handed some simply stunning body modification options in the mid/late 80s, but were given virtually zero indication of how well such modifications might (or might not) age along with them.**
  • Again, because it bears repeating: Andy, shut the fuck up.

* Big Brother reference, for those not familiar with it.  😉

** My mother-in-law is another; how do you tell someone the breast implants that were perfect when you were a 30something start to look a little - different - after another 30-40 years have been run off the clock…?

This is insulting to 45 to 59 years olds! Seriously, if Sue is even as young as 59 I'd be surprised. She did not age well. Leathery over tanned skin will do it to a lady, as well as smoking, etc. Who knows, but yeah, she wishes she was 59. Just sayin'.

I hate Genevieve too, I'll sit with you'se guys on the bench. And I'm so glad I'm not the only one who, everytime she smiles I flinch just thinking about all.those.teef. That can't be natural can it? I feel like she has more teeth in her front smile than I have in my entire mouth.

Hate her, hated her when she was in cahoots with Rome, hated her when she attempted to vote of Sol the first time, hate her even more now that she's accomplished her little "revenge" elimination. I feel petty making fun of someone for genetics they can't control, but in this case I laughed out loud at this comment. Those teeth are ginormous, and they go on forever in her mouth.

It's her face that makes me cringe the most, and the more weight she loses the more ghoul-like she looks. Without all the make up her face looks jumbled up and a bit harsh. I don't understand why women do this to themselves. I actually guessed her age to be in her mid-to-late 60's, she does not look good for 45 or 57 IMO, I think plastic surgery can age you more than you'd think.

About the most disappointing part of tonight wasn't losing Sol, but seeing Genevieve and Sue lose the lead they'd worked hard to gain in the Immunity Challenge.  I don't get how Genevieve biffed it so badly for them both at the end.

I really wanted Andy or Sam to lose their vote at the journey challenge.  Disappointed that Caroline did instead.

They're continuing to give Andy a positive edit, and I'm not for it.  He continues to act like he's doing something that means something in the game when he can't see that he's still basically irrelevant.

Genevieve had a good plan, but Rachel almost blew it up by telling Sam when even she knew that she shouldn't.

Still, Rachel seems to be recovering her game.  I hope that she can get back to a good spot.

Interesting episode.

Keep in mind, though; waterproof sunscreen wasn’t even a thing until around 1977 or so, and it took a little while for usage to become mainstream.  Which is to say, those hotties out lounging by the pool in the late 70s/early 80s…?  They’re in their late 50s/early 60s now, and their complexions are more “wallets and handbags” than “peaches and cream”.  My wife is currently 58, and still (IMHO anyway) cute as a bug’s ear; several of her friends though, are 10-15 years younger - and look 10-15 years older.

I like Kyle, and I'd like him to win, but that's my heart talking.  My Survivor strategery brain is screaming "WTH,  you idiots!!!  This may be your one chance to vote out a comp beast, you should have done it."  The folks who went on the journey had it right when they all looked at each other and went "Kyle, right?  Obviously..." and nodded.  Then for some reason....that was that, and pretty much the end of the Kyle talk.  Everyone else lost their minds.

I know my Survivor strategery brain is supposed to admire Genevieve for all her fancy villainous machinations, but even though she thinks she's being a cold-blooded behind the scenes killer, she's playing emotionally.  She's targeting people she doesn't like, or has grudges against, and not necessarily people who make better sense at this stage of the game.  She's also being unnecessarily convoluted about it, and telling too many lies.  She needs to be more careful about that, because simple conversations between people she's lied to and lied about will expose her and her lies.  That's what happened to Rome.

All that to say I don't understand them all turning on Sol.  Is there something they're not showing us?  Does he have a strong campsite social game?  Is he having secret alliance-making sessions with everyone?  So far he's stayed fairly middle-of-the-pack, not shining in the challenges, yet not slacking either.  He's got a good poker face.  Maybe he snores?  All we've really been shown is him being harassed by Rome.

I also have to say I do not like this Big Brother style of "voting with the house."

I don’t admire it for this reason, and also because she seemed like it was going to be some big master plan that I think she thought would be a resume move.  When she said through tears after Sol’s torch got snuffed “I can’t believe that worked”, I thought to myself that it wasn’t the big deal she probably intended it to be.  Teeny and Sol found out in advance, and she knew Rachel told Sam.  Basically she had too many cooks in the kitchen and expected to keep it under wraps.  I really think she overcomplicated a simple plan.  Sol may have still been surprised at his ouster but probably not like how she expected.  I don’t really see how she could say in front of a jury that she orchestrated the Sol vote to get even with him and have that be respected.  But it really made no sense to target him when there were bigger fish to fry.  It’ll be interesting if this backfires on her.  If Tuku stays strong they’d only need to pull one member in for a majority.  Teeny might say to heck with her and Gaga and join their brigade.

No kidding.  That's some vendetta she's carrying.  'I hate Kyle.'  Really?  Hate?  Not that I want to believe a word Rome ever said, but he did allude in his next-day podcast interview (or whatever) that Kyle had said some rather degrading things about Sue and another female.  My guess is that it's a lie, but if Rome told that to Sue, maybe she believes it.

From an interview in Parade magazine:

Mike Bloom: Finally, I know you weren't able to mobilize the troops on the island, but there have been so many "Sol-diers" online who have fallen in love with you on the show. What's been your reaction to the fan response?

Sol: It means a lot. I mean, you're just playing a game. You're just being yourself, and you get this love that's just completely unexpected. It just makes me feel so good. I'm trying to say something super creative. It's very, very warm. It's very, very loving. I have a lot of self-talk, and a lot of it is good. And because of all this, it's even better now. So it's a blessing. It's such a blessing.

That makes me feel a bit better.

Sierra’s inner dialogue: “I look good  tonight. Wait ‘til they see me strut onto that stage, they’ll be so sorry they let this go… wait, you’re not even looking at me? I spent hours getting ready! Why don’t you look sad? I’M A TRAGIC BEAUTY! …Oh, they will pay.” Bitterest runway show ever.

Not at all. As long as it’s New Era Survivor with all the New Era twists eating up episode time, the extra 30 minutes is the only chance we have to see some camp life and strategizing. Before they lengthened the episodes, I’d be halfway though the season and still not know who many of the players were. They were just random beach bums playing out Jeff’s Idea of the Week. That was boring to me.

I liked Sol, but after Rome, he seemed to just be there. One of those "I'll vote whoever as long as it's not me." A little more strategizing maybe, but I wasn't seeing many exciting Sol moments.

Not taking Kyle out seems like a mistake. Also not breaking up gabe-sue-caroline. The others got lucky that Tuku needed to cannibalize one of their own, but to then leave them be and let them hold power... Genevieve may have pointed the vote tonight, but she didn't have the power of it.

When Sam and Sol learn the plan and try to change the target, great! Except they enlist Genevieve, who sees herself as the mastermind of the Sol vote.

I thought a workable solution could have been Rachel letting Sol know the plan, and giving him her idol. She still votes for him, doesn't blow up her game (which she might have in talking with Sam, "It's not you, I can't say who but... oh, you guessed it."), he uses the idol to save himself without fingers going to Rachel. He might still be in danger, but taking out someone like Sue disrupts that power base, and he's got another day or two to change opinions. She doesn't expose herself, but has a good move to bring up at final tribal if she gets there. BUT, I also get it's her idol, she probably wants it for her own safety (and good on her that she still hasn't let anyone know). Though, even though she sees herself as being in a new alliance, if she's not at the bottom of it I'm pretty sure no one is seeing her as final four material.

First you'd have to think it was ever perfect for a woman of any age to subject herself to expensive, dangerous surgery in order to exaggerate a secondary sexual characteristic for the pleasure of men.  Every woman is free to do what she wants with her own body, but some of us look on with sadness whether it's foot-binding or implants.
