Joey can perform but come on the footwork on that Tango wasn't great it started out hopping and the hold was wonky. But they made time for a drum kit so naturally it's a nine

Yep, that result was expected. I was going to be shocked if Ilona left over Reginald or Eric.

Ilona has been served. She needs to get better

Did Juliane have to bring up nothing again? There was no comparison.

I find Julianne's "interviews" painful.   She is a great dancer, but I miss a co-host like Erin Andrews, who knew how to talk to people on camera.   At least Tyra is gone.

Maybe because he’s athletic and he made a good showing the first week. But I agree - he seems to be one that’s getting the pickier comments from the judges.

LOL first 10 of the season then they had to take it back. Not the contestant the show wanted to have the first 10 of the season I bet. That's what happens when you include these guest judges.

The judges put in the scores ahead of time so he probably put in 9 and decided to change it to 10--but it was the 9 that counted.

I really liked Jenna and whathisname's tango regardless of whatever it was they did wrong (I was having too much fun to notice and despite my many many years of watching DWTS, I can't say I've learned much).

Sasha's partner, Jenn? was not dressed correctly for the night. She needed to be in red leather or something exciting, not a disney princess robe.

I like the troupe doing those little dancing bits.

I thought Julianne calling out to a brother/sister duo because she and Derek were was a little Methinks the lady doth protest too much (famous misquote).  It felt icky to me.

Again, NOT looking forward to narrative night, weep weep, boo hoo.  Hoping there isn't a Disney night this year, that would be all kinds of awesome.

I’d rather watch Val dance by himself than with Phaedra. I can see her trying but it just looks so awkward. I felt badly for Ilona but that was not good.

Yes and Ilona was 'magnificent" while everyone else was hot or beautiful or whatever.  She will have noticed, I'm here to tell you.  Probably part of her breakdown.  I've been through a physical/mental breakdown like that and it sucks because you can just NOT stop crying.  I felt for her knowing that.

When he was on Charity’s season, his uncle said his flaw was trying to please the person he is with.  He puts them and their interests first.

How ridiculous is it these days that Alfonso actually has to give a full disclaimer over the title of a song?!  A song that's over 30 years old and has nothing to do with current events 🙄

I have never watched The Bachelor, so, I just know Joey from DWTS.  Ironically, the fact that he doesn't have a dance background, training, stage experience - is going to be his strengths on the show.  Because the natural ability is certainly there.  And those kinds of contestants have always been the most fun to watch.  They are the ones who put DWTS on the map.

I’ve watched this show since season 1. How much they’ve become lenient in allowing dances to become fusions and allowing letting them modernize proper ballroom and Latin dances is astounding. No one critiques the technique anymore, no one mentions the lack of proper ballroom and Latin dances. For instance, when you have a foxtrot but you add hip hop moves and backflips into it…. Len Goodman would have been appalled at what this has become.

I thought I heard at the beginning someone (Julianne?) say that, because it was hair metal night, they could add something "extra" or "special" (or something like that) to the dances.  Whatever they said, my takeaway was that they weren't going to be super strict about no lifts, technique, etc.  Did anyone else hear anything like that?  (I almost always am multitasking while watching, so I can never trust my memory 100%.)

Gene was terrible.  It seemed like when his first score was high (a 9) and all the other judges had lower scores, he then overcorrected by underscoring several pairs.  His scoring was all over the place and his comments were not helpful and were generally observations on each woman's looks.  Yuck!

Wasn't he a Cheerleader? So there's partnering and lifts and tricks which is a big part of this season. The judges absolutely ignored that crazy Tango hopping

Why is Gene there? Kiss wasn't really considered a hair band back in the day. They weren't pretty enough.

Anyhoo, even though he was a bit rough tonight, I'm rooting for Danny who has clearly fallen in love with dance, and Joey who is killing it. And Jen and Sasha are adorable. And Roman was looking scrumptiously hair band appropriate in the background!

I think Dwight has maybe hit the ceiling for how well he can do. The same might also be true for Danny. Both started out strong because they were better than expected, but I'm not seeing improvement in either of them, instead I'm seeing their weaknesses.

Ilona and Stephen, on the other hand, I can see them improving. They are really the underdogs that I like to root for.

Clearly Chandler is running away with this, but it's hard to root for someone who is already basically a pro and starts out perfect. Plus I'm sick of the Disney kids. They all seem like ringers.

I don't know what the crossover is between Housewives fans and DWTS fans, but I think Phaedra (Phadra?) benefits just by being paired with Val. Probably more fans vote for him than her.

Nope she's not even close to running away with it. She doesn't have the fan base. And that's why she'll go early.

The Ringers are the ones with legions of Bachelor fans or  Olympians who can do no wrong. But thank God Chandler is on the show or I just would not find it entertaining in the least. When she goes I'll watch for Dwight and then I'm out.

There's only so many contestants I can take that have a lack of technique- I get they are learning but oh my god it's painful to see the same mistakes week after week and that's the vast majority this season.

I was thinking the same thing--KISS was more of a glam band, and their heyday was in the '70s. (I know they continued after that.) Hair bands were in the '80s. They should've gotten Steve Perry or someone like that.

I find it interesting that creepy Gene made a point of giving Jenn a 7 and Phaedra a 5 but wanted to give Brooks a 10.  Can't help but wonder what that was based on.

I confess the same though came to my mind. Phaedra's score made no sense. Frankly I spent the while time he was talking holding my breath and hoping he didn't say something completely awful. All the comments on looks were bad enough.

A more appropriate hair metal night judge would be  Bret Michaels. He is actually pretty charming on television.

I haven't watched this episode yet. I'm not looking forward to Gene's comments based on posts. It's too bad since I thought Rosie Perez was a good judge that gave appropriate scores.

I just wanted to comment on Chandler and Brandon. I'm worried for them since there have been a lot of ringer comments. Brandon is also not one of the popular pros. I don't want her to be a shock boot since I'm looking forward to their freestyle. She doesn't need to win for me but I really want to see them in the finals.

In the interview with Julianne, Joey qualified that the cheerleading reference was kind of a joke. He was a cheerleader for a powderpuff game, which is when girls play football and the guys play cheerleaders. It’s a one and done. Not an actual season.

Personally I have no tolerance for guest judges. It just makes a joke of the competition. It’s an opportunity for DWTS to throw out a random celebrity judge to ramp up viewership. Anything for viewers and dollars. They’re useless.

A couple times last night someone gave a one-word response to her question and she seemed like she just didn't know what to do with that.

I feel like maybe they expect more because the female gymnasts have been so good in the past. But men's gymnastics is very different; the floor routines don't involve music or dance elements. Their events are more focused on strength and power, not flexibility and grace. Plus Stephen's specialty is the pommel horse which almost exclusively uses the arms (aside from landing the dismount), while the legs mostly stay straight. Doesn't exactly translate to ballroom dancing the way the women's training might.

Chandler is part of the Disney group of contestants who tend to so well.  They have the combo of a fan base and extensive dance training.  It's the training that makes someone a ringer.

Does anybody understand why these two nights were sequential?

Were they really sequential or were they just aired sequentially?

I heard someone say last night about the Soul Train night, so they were sequential?

Isn't that really hard on the contestants?

I think Soul Train night was taped last week. There were spoilers out there about how the contestants did.

Chandler is part of the Disney group of contestants who tend to so well.  They have the combo of a fan base and extensive dance training.  It's the training that makes someone a ringer. it's the Hiding of training which is the original definition of a ringer. The term has been misused over the seasons but Emmitt Smith is the first to say it about Mario Lopez when he deliberately hid his dance training. Fanbase Ringers are those with ginormous fanbases and creep up on the competition with very poor dance ability. People like Bobby Bones, or the Chicago Cubs pitcher.

As far as Disney kids go ...  lots of young dancers have been booted for lack of fanbase. Chandler is getting no boost or extra points the way others got like Chelsea Kane or Roshon Fagon got  to stay in the race. And since we're back to the Conrad Green days, let's not forget how Sabrina Bryan got booted early not once but twice.

Chandler is not getting the views on Social media the way the Bachelors and the Olympiams are getting serious attention. Even tho her dances are great social is not engaging the way they overwhelmingly did with Charli D'Amelio

The Original Ringer, Mario Lopez was a hustler. A person who hid his training and actually denied he had training. That's not the case here.
A Fanbase Ringer is someone with a ginormous fanbase who will vote for the celebrity despite poor performances, like Bobby Bones or the Chicago Cubs Pitcher. The scenario here is people will vote regardless of ability. Since for me the overall ability isn't good at all, I suspect there will be a Fanbase Ringer winning over the only one who is entertaining due to dance ability.

If Reginald has had limited movement from a knee replacement why would he come on a dancing show?  Makes no sense…

I mean, if you're a celebrity in the U.S., don't have any dance experience, and want to dance, this is the show to do it on. It's the least dancey show out of all the dance shows. You need to have somewhat of a personality to continue in the competition.

Personally, I like whenever someone with a physical or mental disability or issue comes on. It shows people that they can also try something new. They shouldn't and usually don't exclude people based on physical conditions.

And they need to stop telling her how she's redefining femininity. Are we in the 1950s?

The judges give the picky technique comments to the ones who they believe are capable off greatness. The ones who have showed their maximum, are told they are good, or that they are inspirational and heart-touching.

It's judge code.

They meant Gene Simmon's wife, Shannon Tweed. Among Brooks, Shannon and Gleb's wife, none of them have any resemblance to each other.  Witney is blonde like Shannon, but has no facial resemblance.

Uh, I don't know about that. Maybe sometimes. But over the years it seems more like the judges nitpick certain contestants more as an excuse to lowball their scores because they aren't the pre-determined winners and are getting more votes than the person they want to see win.

The costumes were fun, Gene was creepy and Derek's hair was NOT "hair metal" at all. But much like Soul Train Night, the music was ridiculous for some of these dances. It's like a square peg in a round hole. Doesn't work.

The right two people went home. If this show is going to keep casting septuagenarians, they need more like Barry Williams and less like these two who can barely walk. It's not fun or cute. I hope Brooks and Phaedra are the next to go...

Sorry to see my girl Ilona have a rough night, but the crying was a bit much even for me.

The only Bachelor contestant I have ever rooted for was Gabby Windey....until now. I freaking love Joey! I came for the Olympians but I am staying for him. He is getting better and better. Derek is high though - that was not even close to the best tango by a male contestant. Not even close.

It usually feels like the scores are mapped out in a very specific way (like Rosie and CA giving 8s so Bruno and Derek had to give 7s to balance whatever score the show wants it to be), but Gene's rogue scoring seemed especially odd.

I can 100% guess what his motivation was for wanting to give Brooks a 10, but the motivation for scoring Jenn and Phaedra down is murkier.

Also, he was an incredibly awkward guest judge, it seemed like he had written down some general notes about the people beforehand (his comments to Dwight were especially weird and cringey) and then didn't deliver his comments well. Agreed that Bret Michaels would have been a much better choice, I've heard him speak on radio shows occasionally and he was quite thoughtful and charming.

I'm glad Reggie and Eric are out, I had to fast forward those segments because it looked legitimately painful for them to move.

Since Ilona was upset, she shouldn't have been one of the last three. I'm sure she wasn't so they could have chosen somebody else. Her dance wasn't her best but she looked fantastic!! They finally dressed her properly for her body type.

Joey looked really good with his wig. It brought out his blue eyes more.

Stephen and Rylee- it was okay, I still saw some timing issues and he still seems frantic but I believe that’s just how he is. I like them as a pairing I’m just hoping for more.

jenn and Sasha- of all the paso dobles done this night this one by far had the most paso content. I appreciate that it was a full on paso so thank you Sasha. She was decent, it was good. I do wish her outfit was red or black. One  of her best dances so far.

joey and Jenna- very hoppy. Was scored way too high. His jive was much better.

Danny and Witney- I fear he may have peaked. Hopefully next week he wows me.

phaedra and Val- again, Val doing just enough to get by. I understand maybe Phaedra doesn’t have the dance ability as some of his other partners but there are other ways to mask that rather than giving her sub par choreo and basically dancing around her. She can be off putting to some people but I like her.

brooks and gleb- I don’t like him, I don’t like her as she’s very off putting. There was no hip action in that cha cha. I want them off my screen next. She is getting by off looks alone.

Dwight and Daniella- I love Daniella and I love this pairing but technically it wasn’t a great dance. He is committed and having fun tho and that’s great.

ilona and Alan- so she messed up a lot in the jive and that’s okay, it happens. It wasn’t the first time someone has messed up on the jive. It was a cute fun dance and she finished it through. Next week hopefully she will come back strong

chandler and Brandon- she can sell any dance she’s given. To me, there wasn’t enough jive content and the lack of kicks and flicks were noticable. The kicks and flicks she did do weren’t great. She’s taller and the jive is often harder for taller women. It wasn’t her best dance by a long shot but if they make it to finals I would like to see her do a redemption jive.

reginald and Eric voted off. No surprise but I really did enjoy both of their attitudes.

gene Simmons should never come back to the ballroom, his constant yelling out his score was driving me nuts.

Alfonso’s suit was gorgeous.
