It was probably Hulu. They started off as a free service with tons of shows from the 1980s and modern series from Fox and another network that appeared on Hulu the day after they aired. If it was 2009, the timing works about right for it to be Hulu.

I agree. The show wasn't really about the movie industry, actors or celebrities. It was more like a low-rent A Team. Colt Seavers was a bounty hunter, which was how he made money in between gigs as a stuntman. There was his cousin who had studied a semester of just about everything in almost every college/university. There was a woman, but I cannot remember what her role was. The trailer for the A-Team movie looked awesome and made me want to see the movie. After seeing this trailer, I have no desire to see the movie.

Back when IMDb still had message boards, someone rewrote the theme song lyrics to "The Unknown Stuntman" with modern celebrities and it was awesome. It's a shame that won't be part of this version.

It took a while in the trailer for the Fall Guy to finally get a mission to find someone but no criminal entanglement seems to be the driving force. I remember a pre Dog bounty hunter chic when the TV series premiered.

I saw the trailer (or maybe it was test footage because I remember it seemed lengthy) and lost interest when I realized it wasn't going to be like the original show that I enjoyed when it first aired. It's not about a stuntman who moonlights as a bounty hunter, so what's the point? 🤷‍♂️

I completely agree. Also, I must be in the minority in that I do not find anything appealing about Gosling as an actor, and keep scratching my head as to how he became A List leading man material.

Great fun! Other than being stuntmen film Colt Seaver is vastly different that TV Colt Seaver and that works just fine.  It's a Valentine to the stunt community, full stop.  Meta, self-referential but jam packed with action and laughs.  

I enjoyed Ryan Gosling in BARBIE, but for his comedy work I loved THE NICE GUYS and this is near to the level of comedy he achieved in that film.

I liked it. It never really feels like it's threatening to become a great summer movie, which is what I was hoping for based on the pedigrees of many of the people involved (though Leitch has never quite lived up to his solo directorial debut, Atomic Blonde), but it's solidly constructed. Gosling and Blunt are given a lot of space to work, rather than things feeling overly cluttered, and their relationship has enough weight to make you care.

Structurally I kind of wish there was a way to get more of the dynamic between Seavers and Ryder in the early going/setup phase, because that would make him a more impactful figure. As is he's just kind of there.

I liked it, but it did have it's issues. It really could have been much shorter--a few scenes went on way too long--but overall, it's a nice love letter to Hollywood stunt men and women. Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt are charming, as always, and Ryan once again shows off how good he is at humor. And there was something about that I can't quite put my finger on, but it was reminiscent of an 80s type of movie and that made me smile. It was good, silly, fun.

Saw it this afternoon.  It was good fun.  I won't remember a lick of it in a few weeks, but it's not meant to be that kind of film.  The end-end scene was great and got a great laugh from the theater.

“This is a fair opening for a big action-comedy,” says David A. Gross of movie consulting firm Franchise Entertainment Research. “Action comedies are solid performers overseas, and with this cast, foreign business should be good. At [its] cost, ‘The Fall Guy’ is going to need a long run.”

There’s hope that “The Fall Guy” can stick around over the coming weeks… and that’s because Leitch’s prior film, 2022’s Brad Pitt-led assassin thriller “Bullet Train,” overcame similar box office odds. The $90 million-budgeted movie started slow with $30 million in August and legged out to $130 million domestically and $239 million globally.

Also, audiences and critics are digging the film, which landed an “A-” CinemaScore and 83% on Rotten Tomatoes. “The Fall Guy” sees Gosling as a former stuntman who tries to track down a missing movie star (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) so he can salvage a big studio movie, which is being directed by his ex-girlfriend (Blunt).

Well one thing missing,  they pulled back but in the 80s we would have gotten Heather Thomas in the often mentioned swimming costume

Tried watching today.  I found it a confusing mess and gave up.  It’s in a genre I can’t watch, like Kingsman or Guy Ritchie films, where there’s a lot of senseless action.

This movie should have gotten a little more love.  It's a deliriously bonkers and very fun summer movie, and Ryan Gosling was great in it, as were Emily Blunt and Winston Duke.  Maybe I was just in the mood for fun action as a way to escape the heat wave for two hours, but this was worth a trip to the movie theater.

I only very vaguely remember seeing old re-runs of the original 80s TV show as a kid on some random channel - but I still thought it was great to see the actors from the show in a cameo at the very end.

I finally saw this movie over the weekend and liked it a lot more than I thought I would. A lot of fun. Really respects stunt people. Great chemistry between Emily and Ryan. And I loved the way Ryan's character used his stunt skills and experience to get out of jams.

Maybe, but it seems to have legs.  I saw it this afternoon (Tuesday) at noon and there were 12 of us in the theater, which I consider crowded.

Although I have questions about the eleven others in the theater.  When the credits started and they were showing behind-the-scenes scenes of setting up and executing the stunts, people were leaving!  They dragged their asses off the couch to come to a theater to see a movie that honors stuntmen, and they leave when the stuntmen are being honored.  And it's not like they didn't realize it was coming--it was already on the screen when they stood up and left.  Sheesh.

Plus, the beginning of our screening started with the director and Gosling addressing the audience, which always (because I'm a sap) makes me feel appreciated.  However, they were talking about whether to tell the audience not to be on their phones or something like that, and I'm of course thinking, "Of course you tell them to stay off their phones."  And then at the end, Gosling puts his phone inside his jacket and says, "If you have an emergency text, do it inside your jacket."  What the hell????

It honestly almost made me want to leave and get a refund.  Why am I lining the pockets of someone who's telling people it's okay to be on their fucking phones during the movie?  Then the caption device didn't work, and Emily Blunt has an accent and the Australians had accents, and I knew I wasn't going to be able to follow the plot.  But I stayed anyway and missed a lot of the plot but the mayhem and explosions were fun.

But I'm still scratching my head at Gosling's incredibly rude movie behavior.  What were they thinking with that?

I took it as a joke, that he was not serious. I'm sorry that the captions didn't work for you. When I can, I try to go to "open captions" screenings where you don't need a device to see the subtitles on the screen.

The plot is kind of confusing at times, but I did enjoy a lot of the action scenes. I particularly liked the cartoony fight in the nightclub when Goslilng's character is high on drugs, so you can see like "Bam" and "Pow." Also during another fight, there was a Six Million Dollar Man sound effect because Lee Majors also starred in that show. I liked the karaoke scene with "Take a Look at Me Now." I just wish that Stephanie Hsu didn't have such a small part in the movie. At least she got a fun fight scene. The dog was cool.

But you know how people are.  Even when they're not given any wiggle room and are told do. not. text., they do it.  Permission even as a joke is going to be interpreted as permission.  Hey, I'm doing it like Ryan Gosling does it.

I've gone to some open caption screenings, but prefer the device.  Plus the open captions screenings around me are generally only weekend matinees and weekday evenings, both of which I avoid.

Fortunately not understanding what's going on in a movie isn't a deal killer for me if it's action packed like this one.  I enjoy spectacle.

I saw it on Peacock and it was silly fun. Ryan and Emily worked great together, though Judy came off kind of petty in her earlier treatment of Colt. Yes, he shouldn’t have ghosted her, but the fact that he suffered a traumatic injury was a mitigating factor, and she should have been more understanding of that in the beginning.

You got to admit the part where Colt became his own flamethrower when they tried to light him on fire was pretty boss.

The scene with him crying in the car to Taylor Swift’s “All Too Well” managed to be funny and poignant and the same time.

And I  ❤️ Jean-Claude!

Saw it on Peacock this weekend and loved it! It was just silly end of summer popcorn fun. It did take a little bit to get into it, but I was determined to stick with it and I'm glad I did. Jean Claude was, of course, the highlight. But everyone seemed to be having fun and not taking themselves too seriously.

I know I’m way late on this but as an infrequent movie goer this is intriguing. I know they have certain showings where the captions are on the screen but my family would disown me if I made them sit through one of those. You are telling me there is a way to pull captions up on your phone at the theatre? Besides cost, not being able to understand the actors is a main reason I wait to watch at home. 
 

On topic: I watched this over the weekend and really enjoyed it!

We also streamed it on Peacock.  It was fast moving and fun - but also forgettable. It was great for home viewing but I can see why it did not do well at the theaters - it was borderline silly. 
It started out like a light action comedy rom-com, so it was sort of jarring when murders started happening.

It would have been nice if Ryan Gosling's character had more dialogue or scenes showing his expertise in stunt work  coordination.  He basically just shows up and does stunts. 

I was surprised to find out that the directory also filmed Bullet Train, John Wick and Atomic Blonde.  Those movies had more impressive stunts.
Also the ending stunt was odd: "The impossible jump"? The most impressive stunts usually involve crashes, not successful jumps.

No.  The last thing we need is people with their phones on during movies.

Open captions are at select screenings at select theaters, and they're like subtitles--projected along with the movie image; everybody in the theater can see them.

Closed captions are displayed on devices provided by the theater, and the captions can be seen only by the person using the device. 

This is the typical device:

This is all new to me. I kind of like the idea of the glasses. I’ll have to look into this the next time I go to a movie. Thanks!

Yeah, I meant open captions in my previous post. Glad you guys were able to watch the film. I started to watch the extended cut on Peacock and was having trouble remembering what was in the normal edit vs the extended version.
