The deck team reels after a docking debacle; the Chief Stew gets a surprise visit on a day off; a deckhand unhappily gets friend-zoned; a forbidden relationship becomes too tempting to ignore; a disastrous mistake endangers the boat.

Airdate: 08.21.2023

It was really nice for Alesha’s boyfriend to come for a visit.

Poor Harry, Margot is confusing him and now he’s in the friend group.  Now she’s flirting with Adam.  Adam is having a tough time with deck duty’s while João and Culver watch and contemplate what’s happening.

Deck guys aren’t performing the few duties, like docking or dropping anchor.

Rest of the time they’re trying to hook up with the stews or talking about hooking up.  Or in Culver’s case, scavenging for food.

They’re too casual about some of the more crucial tasks.  Culver prioritizes being a clown or eating or now Jaime.   Harry prioritizes getting with Margot.  Now Joao is circling Tzarina.

Even serious Adam is distracted and slacking off.  He went to man the anchor barefoot, which has to be a safety hazard.

But this is what they want, the crew hooking up leading to potentially dire situations.  So far there’s been some damage to the ship but nobody has been injured or worse.

At least not yet.

Maybe the real professionals that we don’t normally see are ready to jump in for truly serious situations.

They acknowledge that Adam is the greenest deckhand, so it makes no sense wh they'd have him alone on the bow during docking or alone dropping anchor. When they sent him up to drop anchor, the rest were just standing on the stern chatting. That said, no idea why he'd even start the process of dropping the anchor when they were still moving.

Margot owed Henry a conversation. To turn around and start flirting with Adam/Joao in front of him was a bitch move.

Scott was not what I expected.

I hate Culver. Disingenuous, self-aggrandizing, obnoxious turd.

Culver seemed so nonchalant and non-involved when the boat hit the dock.  Why didn't he try to help move the fender?

He also seemed nonchalant as the tender was swinging all over and he did not have control at all!

No way he could be in charge.

I thought the coral farm was kind of interesting. I didn't know you could harvest and transplant coral. I wonder how that works. Or even if.

Did Adam have to swim? I'm surprised that didn't come up. I know only Aesha, Joao and I think Culver did the transplanting with scuba gear but I thought the others snorkeled to look at the coral farm.

OK Margot. You had a clear opportunity to be frank with Harry and tell him you only see him as a friend. But you're still wishy washy and won't commit either way. No wonder the poor kid is confused.

I guess Tzarina got over the fact that Joao supposedly screwed over her best mate. That was quick. I'd like to hear more about that.

Jaimee had a point about Tzarina being mad at her more than Culver. Women always seem to put more blame on "the other woman" than on the man.

Scott looks exactly like someone who lives out of a van. Aesha sure doesn't pick'em for looks.

Culver has certainly thrown himself into permanent asshole status.  He was a jerk to Britini & now to Tzarina, but I’m not giving Jaimie a break here, either. She absolutely knew that Tzarina & Cullen had something going on ( even if Cullen was just there for the food) & she took less than 24 hours to go after him.  That’s villain activity, but I suspect anyone that’s hired for this show is hoping for something to make them memorable.  Personally, though I know that Jao has a previously bad Rep ( and I worry that that he will break Tzarina’s heart) I’m appreciating his managerial skills.  Unfortunately, he has a terrible team.  And Adam may not be good but Culver is the worst!

If he wasn't there before, he definitely moved himself into the a$$ category after that conversation about getting a girl roommate because she'd make the beds. Add that to his peeing all around Tsarina when a new guy came on board but as soon as someone else showed interest in him, it was "Cheffy who"?

I think Joao is actually trying to do his job, and, perhaps, redeem himself in the eyes of the viewers. Culver just wants teeth face time.

I find Joao interesting because he is one of the few reality people that has actually addressed how horrible he is/was and appears to try to learn and grow from what he saw of himself on TV.

I do wish he had maintained his sobriety.

That coral farm, for all we know, they did a quick dive, filmed it for the cameras and then wanted to get to the beach club right after.

I'd be impressed if they did it for at least an hour.

A few seasons ago, the crew went to pick garbage around a beach and was rewarded afterwards with some time at a beach club or resort.

They seem to have a formula, occasionally try to make the cast look good between all the drinking and hijinks.

All that made her girl code complaints about Jaimee (who honestly owes her nothing) a little weird, right? I thought girls wouldn't bang someone their friend banged. That's sort of bro code.

I thought he looked a lot better in the photos. When he showed up I was seriously not impressed.

They actually let rank amateurs touch the precious coral? Seems like a bad idea.

Did anyone catch the quick glance at Jason in a kimono type robe? Reminded me of his stint on Project Runway.

And Kate said handling the fenders job is given to the stews because it doesn't take any training.

I liked Aesha's boyfriend.  He reminds me of guys I knew in the 70s.  Also, I've been wanting to go to Colorado. If Aesha lives in Breckinridge, then maybe that is the town I might go to on a long future vacation. Still trying to talk hubby into a Colorado trip.

I enjoyed watching the trip to the coral farm.  I think everyone except Aesha and Joao were snorkeling and transplanting coral. Aesha and Joao were diving and selecting coral from the hanging coral apparatus.  I, too, was dying to know if Adam went in the water.  Even though I am barely able to swim, I was able to snorkel in Hawaii, by using an inflatable vest.  Most snorkel charters will also provide noodles or other bouyancy devices for their guests.

I loved Scott surprising Aesha! She deserves it.  She is so sweet and I love seeing her happy.

Scott seems like a good bloke. They make a cute couple.

Went camping in Colorado in the 70s. Absolutely beautiful. Except for the downpour and subsequent mudslide that forced us down from the mountain camp-site. Got to meet relatives of Bullwinkle and Yogi, so that was a plus.

I wondered if they were adding in his plaintive cries of being hungry in post, or if he was really going on about it.

What's really funny are Jason's constant mispronunciations of Joao's name  - it's getting to be a cross between Joao and Joel, kind of like Jowowel.

Thousands of dollars of damage!  Glen would just spray paint it and be done.

Isn't the first rule of coral that you don't touch the coral?

I'm sure it's not just climate change that is killing coral, but the attempt to re-establish it is important. So many people interrupt coral by snorkeling and touching. I wish "don't touch" was emphasized more but planting more is important to repair damage.

I love listening to the Watch What Crappens podcast.  Ben and Ronnie, the podcasters, were commenting on how Glen would just give Colin his chewing gum and see if he could do a McGyver on the engine.  🤣. They do some great recaps. complete with fun accents (they exaggerate Margot's midwestern twang and Adam's NY accent, among others) It's hilarious.

It is dead on and as annoying as Aesha's voice! Yeah, one of you suggested that podcast and I love it, I walk several miles every day and I listen to it, I laugh out loud and I am sure my neighbors think I am daft, walking and laughing out loud.

I dated someone whose mother was the mother of all mothers, she was demanding and ruled that guys life, no woman was good enough for him, her nickname was Tzarina, she is all I can think of when I hear that name.

Cheffy came in all cool and now she is all uncool.

Just re-watched.  I don't see how Adam survives this.  That anchor drop while the ship is still moving, seems pretty bad (it might not be--editing monkeys...), but that's a big mistake to come back from.

He’s got the most punchable face of anybody I watch on reality TV. My disgust goes up +1,000 whenever he shows up.

Thinks he’s all that when really he’s just a tool of the highest order.

EDITS: And poor Harry. He deserved none of that. Margot needs to grow TF up and stop playing with people like this. That anchor. OMG. That’s up there with the yacht getting in gear and nearly taking out the dock and boats on BD years ago.

At the dinner the night that Culver and Jaimee hooked up, Harry and Margot were at the table kissing like a couple in the background.  No wonder Harry feels confused, Margot is clearly giving him mixed signals. When I don't like a guy, I'm very clear with it and don't act all wishy washy like she is with Harry. It's like Margot wants to be in a couple, but Harry is her only choice right now, so she's stringing him along because it's better than being single.

Harry reminds me of Andrew Garfield.

So far, I'm loving Joao, is it possible he's truly grown?  Or is he just better at maintaining an image? Either way, it's better than having to watch dickhead Culver.  I wonder if Joao's ex-fiance was the stew who he met on a previous season of Below Deck.

Adam, is my favorite, seems normal, mature, and well, hot.  Crossing fingers that he will survive, maybe Culver will get fired instead...one can hope.

I really like Joao too. He was a little more civil when he came back as bosun on BDM, but this Joao I really like. Sorry he’s stuck with a green crew and assclown Culver.

Are you talking about Brooke? I believe he said she cheated on him, so…

Like a lackadaisical deckhand who just doesn’t know how to move quickly or know what to do, dog, these comments are in the order of the episode scenes broadcast.

Margo (about Harry): “I just don’t like him that way.  I don’t know how to handle any of this.”  Well, as a first step, stop crawling into bed with him.

For just a one-day charter the guests gave a $17,500 tip?  Wow, they *were* nice!

Culver – the only thing “horse” about your analogy with people is your teeth.

Scott – dude, that porn ‘stache!  Yikes!

I don’t quite understand how transplanting coral back to a reef that is dying because the water is too hot…is going to save it if the transplanted coral is also going to die for the same reason.  Unless this is some sort of super-mutated-genetically-engineered coral?  But in any case, the underwater scenes were nice.

Oh, Harry, you poor sod.  It’s not you, it’s her.  Margot isn’t into you, she’s into Margot.  And a bit loony.

Watching J-wow this season, compared to how he was in a previous season – it’s almost as if they’re not the same person.  I like *this* J-wow much better.

And speaking of someone being more into someone than others, Culver’s insensitivity and attitude is even worse.  I feel so bad for cheffy, with Culver and Jaimee carrying on right next to her.

Margot:  “I honestly don’t know what’s going on in my mind.”  Pfft.  Finally.

Culver, after cheffy’s passing “slut” remark as she walked past Culver and Jaimee:  “She said it to you, she didn’t say it to me.”  Um, are you certain about that?  Could be both.

Jaimee: “I feel like Culver doesn’t even care.”  Bingo!

And once again, 5 hours before the next charter, the drunken, hungover crew stagger from their bunks to wobble and weave around the ship to start their day.

What will happen next week?  Will the Kaiju-maru demonstrate the fine art of clubhauling?  Will Adam sink?  Will Harry swim?  Will Culver know where he’s at?  Stay tuned, if you have your lifejacket on…

He's new at being a deckhand on a yacht but he's not new to boats. In fact he's got more boating experience than either Harry or Culver and even Joao said something about his qualifications being higher than his own. That being the case, it's even more baffling that he would start dropping the anchor while the boat is still moving. What a lunkhead.

Leopards can't change their spots, but people can if they make a sincere effort.  It rarely happens immediately, it takes time.

Joao is one of the few reality assholes who acknowledged his assholeness and has/is made changes.

Is he going to make mistakes and take 2 steps back?  Probably.  He's human.  But i do get the sense he is trying to be a better person.

This is my first intro to Joao but he seems likeable to me. Granted I don’t know what he did in the previous seasons. It sounds like his childhood was rough and he has some serious baggage from that. I like that he is trying to give Adam a chance to succeed. I don’t like Jamie or Culiver. Culver is a fuck boi and Jamie strikes me as the type that enjoys grabbing the interest of a guy that another person is interested in. At the same time Chef needs to get over it. They weren’t even in a relationship.

Aesha is a good egg. Her and her boyfriend seem very happy together. Margot just seems confused and insecure. What happened a few episodes ago likely didn’t help. Harry seems very sweet. Margot is not the one dude.

OK, so we just had an episode all about sexual improprieties and now we have Jaimee getting naked with someone she’s known for less than 24 hours. Give me a break.

it appears that both Joao and Alesha have matured.  Joao doesn’t seem as much of a douche and Aesha doesn’t make a sexual comment or belch every 30 seconds.

I'm not that sure about Aesha. She is a caring, concerned leader, but her language is still a little raw. We got to hear about her labia on the first couple episodes, and then she talked to Margot about her fanny tingling during a kiss (and in British slang, it doesn't mean rear end).
