I'm not sure these two have ever crossed paths but I can't help but imagine they'd get along like a house on fire if they've ever done so!

Rita Moreno considers herself as much an activist as an actor.  If Brenda Lee (who's never spoken up, as far as I can find) is either on the opposite side or defies the stereotype and shares Moreno's convictions but chooses to remain on the down low, I don't really see them bonding if a birthday, short stature, and artistic talent are all they share.

Well, in Miss Lee's defense (I guess), she and Miss Moreno had both been born to struggling parents in small towns that they'd leave soon after their respective parents' union ended (Miss Lee's via her father's sudden death, Miss Moreno's  via her parents' split- and mother's kidnapping of her to NYC) and would each become the support of their mothers while still preteens. Then would each tour and perform to a worldwide venue then meet and befriend many others from diverse backgrounds so I don't think either of them would necessarily turn their nose at the other.

FWIW, they both met Elvis in the 1950's. Miss Moreno had a rather blah 'revenge date' with him to get back at her then-flame Marlon Brando only to find Elvis to be handsome  and polite but, in her POV, dull. Whereas, Miss Lee and he bonded over admiring each other's musical talents (though kept things platonic since she was only nine and her mother watched her carefully) yet would stay family friends until his 1977 death. Maybe the two of them might have their fun comparing notes even if they don't have the same points of view on Elvis or other topics!

no doubt Dick Van Dyke considers today lucky because it's his 99th Birthday and he's still in very good shape with his mind intact.

And because his house did not burn down, and when he, his wife, and the other pets returned, the cat who'd escaped while they were evacuating was found.

Oh, I am That Person -- Bobo was my primary concern upon reading about the Van Dyke family evacuation.  So I was checking up on that like it was my job.

Not to be outdone, though is the daughter of the performing legend Marlene Dietrich (1901-1992) Maria Riva (born Maria Elisabeth Seiber) who seems to have inherited her mother's longevity and then some because she turns 100 years old today!

Happy Birthday Mr. Van Dyke and Mrs. Riva!

And also Steve Buscemi, Taylor Swift, and me!

Zendaya and Tom Holland Are Engaged!

I'm happy for them. They seem like such a fun, loving, couple, and I love that he's not insecure about her fame (or her height! lol). I know he's famous, too, but she's a superstar. Just recently I read that he doesn't walk with on the red carpet during her film premiere's because "it's her moment".  I really hope they make it.

Well, it's official then -- I am completely out of touch with pop culture.  I know the name, but couldn't pick her out of a line-up (same with him).

Her superstar status compared to the title character star of a trilogy might be just confirmation bias caused by the promoting Challengers. I might have seen more of her on the B list as a Dancing with the Stars contestant

I first became aware of her back in her Disney days but she is also an Emmy and Golden Globe winner.  I think that makes her an A lister.

Plus, her projects tend to do well and I believe she's in demand as an actress.  But like anyone newish on the scene, one's knowledge of them is all going to depend on intersections of what one watches or pays attention to and who stars in it.

Her Dancing with the Stars stint was back when she was 17.  She wasn't A list back then. She's 28 now and I'd definitely consider her A list.

It was either Richard Dreyfuss or maybe Dustin Hoffman who once told of the difference of his being a movie star compared to Governator Arnold being a superstar. Tom Holland may have made his mark in genre movies but they were the biggest movies in history

I first became aware of her in The Greatest Showman, but she really impressed me in Malcom & Marie.  Can't say I enjoyed that movie exactly*, but she was outstanding.

*It was mostly two people talking/arguing/discussing things while waiting for a review of the husband's movie.  It was uncomfortable to watch at times.

Maybe superstar is a bit strong for Zendaya, but I'd definitely say A Lister.  There are a lot of actors whose names I don't know or whose work I'm not familiar with, but, I've been seeing her on tv since her kids show, then Dancing With the Stars, The Greatest Showman, Dune 1 and 2, the Spider Man trilogies, I've heard a lot about Eurphoria and just watched Challengers.  She's also one of the celebrities to watch for on the red carpets because she's so beautiful and the majority of her looks are perfection (imo, anyway).

Zendaya actually met Holland on the Spiderman set - she plays Peter Parker's girlfriend, I believe in all the movies made to date.

I remember somebody telling me that they are probably hyping their relationship to promote the movies (like Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson reportedly did?).

Apparently not, LOL. Congratulations to them, they look cute together!

Aw! I'm rooting for them! They both seem like good eggs.

Looking at both their resumés, though they've got different trajectories, I'd say they're about equal in terms of fame. Plus Zendaya has the bonus of being famous as a fashion icon outside of her acting roles.

Definitely an A lister. She's also really huge in fashion circles. She and her stylist Law Roach are considered a fashion dream team.   That is how she really popped on my radar.

In addition to Spiderman, Euphoria &  Challengers, she is also in the Dune films and I believe is second billed. Villeneuve was bragging on her to Spielberg about her directing instincts.

That said, I am happy for them and hope they make it. Also can't wait to see how Law Roach styles her for the wedding.

I just remembered: Even before Spiderman, wasn't Zendaya already semi-famous for being in Taylor Swift's squad (or whatever they used to call it) and in her "Bad Blood" music video (with a bunch of other stars/starlets)?

Even if she didn't have a big gig, this girl has never stopped working.

It isn't a matter of her fame, but rather if Tom Holland would be jealous and emasculated because she has joined him as the lead in movies.

I was in the audience for Tom's West End debut in Billy Elliot (yes, I'm old).   He radiated star quality at 12.

I first saw him in The Impossible and noticed the star quality.  Imo, he was a perfect choice for Spider Man. There's also his famous Lip Sync Battle performance that still has people talking all these years later.  😍

The best thing about that Lip Sync Battle is Zendaya watching Tom absolutely crush it.

I've cvertainly heard of Tom Holland and Zendaya, but haven't really followed their careers in general, so no idea if those two were dating at the time of this performance. Either way, I'm with Zendaya,  I'd fall for and want to marry a guy who was bold enough to do something this amazing and entertaining, too :D.

But yeah, congrats to the happy couple :).

Pacific Palisades, home to quite a few celebrities, is on fire, and Steve Guttenberg is moving abandoned cars:

Quote

“What’s happening is people take their keys with them as if they’re in a parking lot. This is not a parking lot. We really need people to move their cars,” the “Police Academy” actor explained. “If you leave your car behind, leave the key in there so a guy like me can move your car so that these fire trucks can get up there.”

“It’s really, really important,” Guttenberg continued.

The actor explained how he has friends who are unable to evacuate because of the traffic jam on Palisades Drive.

“There are people stuck up there. So we’re trying to clear Palisades Drive and I’m walking up there as far as I can moving cars,” he revealed, pointing up to the hill where traffic was slowly making its way down.

“There are families up there, there are pets up there. There are people who really need help,” he said with worry in his voice.

Wearing a facemask, the “It Takes Two” actor explained how important it is for everyone to “band together” during this time of need.

“Don’t worry about your personal property. Just get out. Get your loved ones and get out.”

(If you don't leave your keys for a nice actor to serve as your valet, it's a bulldozer that's going to move your car out of the way.)

Zendaya has made it clear she barely knew Taylor. This was during Swift's "I'm a feminist because I have a girl squad phase" that simply included walking around with every currently famous young woman at that time. Zendaya was famous before Spiderman because she was on a Disney show. Well, two shows actually since she went on to star on another after Shake It Off ended.

When casting for Spiderman was first announced, she had 10 million Instagram followers already to Tom's 250,000. Spiderman was without question his breakout role, which isn't to say he isn't very much famous in his own right.

But yeah, anyone bringing up DWTS that Zendaya did at 17 to minimize the current status of her fame is silly. Even if one wanted to dismiss her as just a fashion star more than a serious actreess like some used to do a few years ago, her two Primetime Emmy and Golden Globe wins have dismissed that.

She also made history as the youngest actress to have two Lead Actress Emmy wins. She is very much superstar status at this point. Hell, you know what they say, when you're literally one name - you're a star. And best of all, no nepo baby accusations against her either.

For me a superstar or a A-lister is someone who can get a lead in a movie without having to auditions.

Has she even been a lead in a movie? I don't know because I know who she is because she's Tom Holland's girlfriend (I know they are engaged now). Unless you are into fashion or Disney shows you did not know who she was. I do know it's different now but I still can't name anything she has been in except the Spiderman and Dune.

“Challengers” has got a lot of attention.

Yes, Challengers and Mike and Maria. Both of which she did not have to audtion for. She’s also currently filming a new movie with Robert Pattinson that she’s the female lead that she also didn’t have to audition for.

I never heard of it so I went looking. It doesn't seem like she is the lead of the movie and the reviews that I saw was not kind.

My understanding of a lead, is someone who gets top billing. An A-lister who can carry and get people to a movie by just their name. Someone who can get a movie financed such as Nicole Kidman.

Zendaya is most definitely the lead actress in Challengers and as for reviews, it has a 88% Rotten Tomatoes critic's score which is very, very good. For context, Emilia Perez that is expected to be a Best Picture nominee only has a 76% score.
