We'll open the live chat a bit early for the few of us still live posting and who might be watching the Dead Carpet thing or whatever they're calling it before the episode airs.

I have S1 running in the background. Since I've watched every season, it shouldn't be but it IS always a surprise how bad the writing has been over the last few years.  The show was never perfect but we had mostly relatable, likable characters in unique situations that we cared about (well, I did, anyhoo).   We also had some humor!  I don't care, if the dead are walking and eating the living, there's still going to be something to laugh about.

See y'all later.

I’m setting my alarm to be here for the live show, however, considering AMC+ have failed to fix a fault over the last four or so episodes I’m not overly confident. The fault which has been experienced and reported by many means that we can only watch two or so minutes of an episode, then the broadcast freezes and you get a blank screen which lasts for up to fifteen minutes, then you get another couple of minutes of uninterrupted viewing, if you're lucky.

I tried signing into my AMC+ account earlier to check broadcast times, only to be told that I had to sign up for a yearly or monthly account. This despite already having a monthly account, there was no way to check my existing account because they said I needed to sign up for an account 🤬🤬🤬

What an absolute shit show of a company, if by some miracle I do manage to watch tonight’s episode, which doesn’t take me three hours to complete, the pleasure of cancelling my subscription, if they admit I have one, will be a joy to behold.

I’ll be there if I can 🙄

Every time I watch on AMC+, and I mean every time, it freezes, and I have to leave and go back in. Very annoying. This is on my laptop, if I try to watch on my tv via Roku, it kicks me out, and I have to sign-in again, which is an annoying process.

So I'll be watching on regular TV with the resta youse.

unfortunately on the IPad is the only option I’ve got, let’s just hope for a miracle and for $8.99 a month I bloody well expect one

The same happened with Better call Saul,  the only way people could watch the finale was by pirate sites.

So they kill one main character and it’s Rosita.  I guess it makes sense, the writers haven’t known what to do with her for about the last four years now so they just make her the sacrificial lamb.

FU Walking Dead.  I’m glad you’re over.

On the after show, the actress who plays Rosita says she asked for her death because she wanted closure for character. She also said it made the happiness of the ending more poignant.

Did Peter Jackson direct the ending because, damn, that was interminable with a number of fake outs...but, as I mentioned once before, mainstream television now is so loaded with crap, that my appreciation for this show has improved to a degree over the past few years. I am glad I stayed with the series to the end.

Yes.  That is exactly what I was thinking.  This was like the ending(s) of the last Lord of the Rings movie, Return of the King.  Whenever you thought the movie was about to end it would just go on and on and on.  This finale was the worst combination of too fast and too slow.  It quickly buzzed sawed through the end story and meandered with ending after unsatisfying ending.  How much of the last 30 minutes could be lobbed off without anyone much noticing?

What speaks volumes for how far the show declined was the fact my main complaint is how many main characters survived.  Which while not surprising with their deus ex machina solution to the Commonwealth overrun by zombies story line,  it speaks volumes of how little impact most characters added after season 5 actually made.  Anyone other than Negan, Lydia, and Ezekiel felt quite expendable.  And to be honest I would not have been all that broken up if Ezekiel didn't make it even if I liked him becoming the new Governor.  In fact maybe I am too generous with using Season 5 as a dividing line since Rosita never made much of an impact and whatever impact Eugene had generally made me root for the zombies whenever they were nearby him.

I'm just sad this show was denied the perfect ending that would've tied in perfectly with the Daryl in France spinoff show.   Daryl on his motorcycle on top of a surfboard being pulled by zombie dolphins across the Atlantic Ocean.

I would say I feel sorry for Judith being abandoned again by a parental figure for reasons.  But at this point it's just par for the course.

All that said still looking forward to the spinoffs.  This show has jumped the shark too many times and just got stale.  It needed a hard reset.  And hopefully the new locales and a brand new story with new characters will provide that.

Did they ever show Negan's wife?  I kept looking for her, but if she popped up, I missed her.

Good finale.  The show had fallen off in recent years, but there was enough in this last episode to recall why it was once such an entertaining show.  Oddly, I thought the Rick/Michonne scenes brought everything to a screeching halt, took me out of the story.  Strange, since I had been waiting a long time to see what had become of them.  I even watched the horrible World Beyond series thinking they might pop up.  I guess I got over wondering about them.  Raise your damn daughter.

So I guess chivalry is dead.  "Yes Rosita, you and our baby climb up the pipe last while we watch from the Window."  WTF?

Also, why is it that every person who becomes a parent for Judy decides to take off on some quest.  There's no internet, no phones, and no towns with record keeping.  The odds of Michonne finding Rick are about as close to zero as you can get.

Then, Daryl takes off to find "people" over taking care of Judith.  She is just a kid, right?  Plus, Alex and the Commonwealth need farmers, guards, and leaders to provide for Judith and the kids, right?  She and her brother are going to have some serious separation and abandonment issues.  If I'm her, I would assume that whoever starts to fill the parent roll is probably about to leave, kind of the opposite of the "love montage" at the end of the show. "Love you kid.  Well, I'm outta here."

Ok it's over. Rosita saved the whole episode because is was sloppy.

Their escape from the hospital with Judith on the stretcher and all hallways blocked was never shown.

There were only two children at the center?

Rosita escaping the fall was exciting, but when she got up and started swinging, all the walker reared back. They are walkers. They don't have self preservation moves.

When Aaron, while doing the zombie shuffle, comes across Ezekiel, he and a few others abruptly move towards the loading dock. Most of the walkers take no notice of this nor take notice of all the activity on the loading dock.

The walkers were right behind the crowd at the gates, but the ongoing speeches and inactions were unbelievable.

Why was Judith addressing Pamela telling her it's not too late? Unnecessary interference from a child who should have been in bed. Plus it made no sense. Her role was over dead or alive. Helping other people no longer depended on Pamela.

They are all explosive experts and they managed to rig all that up, attract all the walkers and escape within 4 minutes. Yeah.

Maggie had a good talk with Negan. Honestly he hasn't bothered me for awhile. He should have been executed and not imprisoned. Even Maggie had the opportunity to kill Negan, but she didn't. It wasn't an outside group that put him in prison. It was our own group. So he served his time and has saved the group several times as repayment. He earned his place as Maggie said.  No one needs to forget what he has done. They don't need to be chummy with him and they don't have to forgive him. But they need to find a way to integrate him fairly. I was glad they gave him his own family because it kept a distance between he and Maggie. I worry the new show will cross the line with those two.

Gosh little Coco is amazing. That babe sleeps so peacefully.

Well, that happened.

I got a little angry at the sight of Rick and Michonne showing up to steal some of the spotlight at the end.   Not so fast, I thought.  You guys left.   And now that I see you again, I realize I didn't miss you all that much.  Btw, who's minding Michonne's leather bustier-making booth at the Ren Faire?

Poor Rosita.   Not because she died, but because the only people who fell in love with her were Abraham, Father Pee Pee Pants and Eugene.  I wonder if that thought ever caused her some long, sleepless nights.  I hoped she might survive, suggesting the virus may be  losing some of its potency at long last.   But all in all, she's just another brick in the wall.

Always hated Living Colour's "Cult of Personality."  Now I get to hate it anew.

How did Daryl keep a straight face when he said, "We're not the walking dead."   So forced.   So unnatural.   Only Eugene could have gotten away with saying that because he's so forced and unnatural already.

This is how it ends, not with a bang but a meh.

Rosita's ending got to me and I didn't even like her that much, but just her death felt like earlier seasons deaths. Eugene being next to her with the chair was so sad.

I thought it was a good closure to a lot of characters finally getting some peace and fighting stopping for a bit.

The Darryl/Carol scene was amazing, 12 years I felt that goodbye and even felt like it was the actors talking to each other.

I enjoyed the flashbacks at the end, but not the Rick/Michonne scenes it just didn't fit. I get it was to show the spin off, him in NYC looking place with a helicopter, her looking like Wakanda Forever looking for him.  I feel sorry for the kids, go raise them. Judith especially should be bitter and not want anything to do with Michonne if she returns.

I've been with this show from the start, towards the past few years they lost me but I do that them all for originally making a great  show that was really enjoyable.

LOL!

I was hoping that Rick & Michonne would return at the end to join everyone; their upcoming show could have been about how they found each other and made their way back.

I long ago gave up on coherent story lines for TWD and pretty much assumed we would get as happy an ending as possible because of all the various spinoffs.  I was pretty sure either Zeke or Aaron would die so was glad that neither did.  Rosita's death was affecting; the actress sold it, though Rosita, Judith and Lydia were all treated to glowing complexions and beautiful lighting despite their various injuries.

The Carol and Daryl scene on the bench felt tacked on and I wondered if it had to be shot after Melissa McBride declined to be in the spinoff.   I've always enjoyed the characters' friendship so that was OK.

Negan is popular in many places but even though JDM tried his best, his redemption never worked for me.  I understand all of the arguments but I just.don't.care about him and never will.

Way back when, the show did have a gritty feel (remember the Claimers? the endless sweating through Georgia?) and it did feel like *anyone could die* .   Even Carl, though that was showrunner pettiness rather than trying to tell a story.  When Andy Lincoln wanted out and the show chickened out on killing Rick, *anyone can die* all went out the window.   It's why they had Michonne walk out on her kids when Danai wanted out.   Anyone can die, until they can't.   It hurt the show along with the attempts at watching too many groups; no Daryl's the lead; no Negan; oh hey Maggie's back - none of it worked.   Never mind all the various, ridiculous villains along the way.

Well if the zombies ever show up, let us all hope for unending supplies of weapons, ammunition, fuel and immaculately tailored outfits.

In case you're wondering, Lori and Andrea are still two of the worst written and most annoying characters on the show.   😆

I despised Andrea. Yes, the writing for her was awful. But either her acting or the way she was directed was annoying as hell. The arms-crossed, hip-jutting, toe-tapping made her come off as petulant rather than defiant.

That said, the "commercials" with Andrea in this episode were hilarious.

The Walking Dead' series finale originally ended much differently

I would have liked to have seen this.

Quote

After Daryl rode off, we cut forward to the Freedom Parkway, outside Atlanta — where the iconic shot of Rick rode down from the pilot. See an ethanol-modified van, with a young woman and man in the front seats (in their twenties). And through the scene, we come to realize it's adult RJ and Judith. Other adult versions of the kids are in the back — Coco, Gracie, etc. They're out there, looking to escort any survivors back to their communities. Continuing the legacy of their parents. As RJ speaks over the radio, he finishes with: "If you can hear me, answer back. This is Rick Grimes." (Which, of course, is his name — and the line Rick said in the pilot.) Then we end with the voice of a survivor answering back: "...Hello?"

In retrospect, there was always a mulligan that this series could have played but never did. If we enter the wayback machine to Season 1, the scientists at the CDC did say that the walking dead would eventually starve themselves into non existence. True, no real tmetable was given so this get out of Zombieland free card could have appeared at any time. Succes and spinoffs obviously allowed the showrunners to keep this card in their pocket. So it was good to see an intense Zombie fight in the last episode which could stand up to what we saw in the earlier seasons.

Did anything come of the Walkers being able to climb? Everyone, including Negan, was so amazed by that, yet I saw nothing that would indicate it allowed Walkers to become even more dangerous. Sure, it helped them get past the main gate, but that could be attributed to the guards being idiots, which in this show happens a lot.

I enjoyed this entire ride. I liked some seasons more than others but damn, this was fun.

Thoughts on the last episode: I'm glad Dog is safe. Carol and Daryl's final scenes were perfect. I never thought the writers were trying to redeem Negan and I don't think another actor could have pulled off what JDM. Based on what was said during the Dead Carpet special, I was expecting a lot more deaths and to tear up a lot more than I did.

I am disappointed the last we see of Pamela is in a cell but Negan had a point - for someone like her, that is a fate worse than death. I'm looking forward to the spin-offs and seeing where these characters go from here.

Even though I found it rather underwhelming, to be fair I can’t really see how they could have done things much differently. We needed a quiet time at the end for the goodbyes and to show how wonderful things now are, the exciting part, to lose a few minor characters and set up the heartbreaker end for one of the originals.

The end of Milton and the troopers finally seeing the light and redeeming themselves,  was just a tad too easy and by the numbers for me, it was a lot to ask that things could get turned around in one episode, even an extended one.
As with the show as a whole it was a “fairly decent but could have been better” episode, despite the promises from the cast that the back half of S11 will be “the one to watch”, I feel most were left disappointed.

Onwards and hopefully upwards for the excitingly named spin-offs, more Maggie is the silver lining on that Grey cloud which unfortunately hung over S11.

When Daryl left Judith in the hospital room and barricaded the door, this is where I thought they were going: at the end of the episode, Judith wakes up in an abandoned hospital, wanders outside, and finds just a few stray Walkers crawling around. It would have come full circle, exactly the way the pilot began with Rick. And I would have been down with that.

Instead we get a happy endings montage and no real losses, although to be fair I don't really care enough about any of the characters left for their deaths to make an impact. Luke and - what was her name? Luce? I don't even remember her and they wrote him off last season. I've never cared about Magna, Connie, Kelly or Yumiko - the show never did anything to make me care about them.

And how did Rosita die? Did she get bit? I missed it.

I never cared about Luke and co. either. I didn’t even remember the names of the two who got killed by the walkers at the end.

Rosita got bit on the back of the shoulder in the walker melee and that’s how she died.

Nothing happened!

Except for Pamela getting arrested nothing happened at all.  I don't care about Rosita and the others, i even pressed ffwd when they were mumbling there heart out.  I wanted to see an ending, not a farewell psycho pop session.  I saw a title in the spoilers that said "Everybody dies" and i did not click on it but it is what should have happened,  kill all of them like in the comics, (Except Carl and his daughter).

That was lame.

Well, as far as series endings go....it was better than the end of Xena, less annoying but very similar to Battlestar Galactica reboot ending and it could only dream of being anywhere near to the endings of Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul. I didn't hate it, I did get misty eyed over Rosita but it didn't hurt my heart, not like losing Carol would've. Did they earn that sappy ending? Sure, why not, who cares. I did NOT like the coda with Rick and Michonne, I feel like the actors made the choice to leave the show and they should've just kept walking but I think Clutterbuck misses the paycheck and the constant fan adoration and Danai, well she's trying to get as big creatively as possible as fast as possible and I respect that but even she should've just kept walking away because frankly, for a LOT of people when Michonne abandoned her children she became almost equal to Negan in villainy. I know I lost all my respect for her (Michonne) when she left (but at the same time, nothing but respect for Danai....until she decided to come back for the R&M thing).

Maybe it's just me but I still do not understand what the point of The World Beyond even was. Z-virus came from France... ok? Rick is wearing a CRM jacket and was picked up by a CRM helicopter with Jadis who somehow was secretly CRM... ok? That's just all so stupid and pointlessly convoluted and seriously, The World Beyond looked dumb, only hardcore nutballs even watched it (yes, referring to myself here) so IDK....plus really seriously why tf would Michonne be dressed in Dora Milaje cos-play?!?!?!? THAT WAS SO WEIRD!!!!!

I guess when it's all said and done, The Walking Dead seems to have turned into a missed opportunity and having missed it, certain parties are trying desperately to create something, anything to recapture that lightning....too bad because the last season of TWD did not do the franchise any favors and really, the show ought to have ended years ago (before Negan IMO).

It's been so great posting here with you all fellow hardcore nutballs, especially the few of us who came from TWOP and are still here! We've had so many awesome conversations, some of you mf-ers are some of the smartest people I've ever "met" and I'm so grateful. I'm not going anywhere, I'll be around but I reckon this subforum will slowly die, as all things should.

All in all, not a bad finale, even if they spent the "epilogue" setting up multiple spinoff.

Angela Kang thank you for everything you did for this show 🙌 You took it back to being great! I'm still super upset over Rosita dying. That character really grew on me & I so wanted her to live & the possiblity to see her on some spinoff in the future, even if just for an episode or two.

Darryl & Carol. FTW. I'm super sad we won't see Carol on the spinoff with him but I totally get and respect Melissa's decision. And I'm so relieved they didn't kill Carol off. Seeing Carol in that scene a year later with her hair chopped off I totally saw Melissa telling Norman she loved him too. Two great actors and two great characters!

I wanted Negan to die. Sorry not sorry. Love the actor but the character should've died. He could've gone down a hero I don't care but he killed Glenn & Abraham goddammit. I'll give every spinoff a chance but the one with him (and I'm saying that now but I will probably still tune in at some point or read reviews and base my watch or not to watch decision on them)

I need to rewatch this episode when I'm done grieveing cause I totally missed Chandler Riggs cameo.

I'm still so sad over Rosita dying 😭

I loved the interaction between the actors on the aftershow. I lol'd.

In the early seasons, with the ongoing cycle of them finding a new refuge only to be forced out of it, and the neverending cartoon villain encounters, I thought it just wasn't realistic that they wouldn't find decent settlements after a while, that roving bands of cutthroats just would not be the main outcome of an apocalypse. I thought there would be plenty of dramatic situations that would still be possible in a permanent settlement.

But either I was wrong, or they did it badly, because in my opinion the quality fell down a hole after they got to Alexandria. Still, I watched to the end, so I guess it was good enough. Or I have low standards for genre shows.

I'm glad the best characters at the end were Daryl and Carol, one who died early in the comics and one who didn't exist in them at all. Suck it, Kirkman.

I wonder how this series would have gone if Darabont had helmed to the end.

I didn't realize at the time, when Father Gabriel went to open the gate, it was a contrast with his beginning where he had locked the people out of his church and didn't let them in, so they all died.  Shows his character growth.  That should have been obvious to me, but it was a long time ago, and it didn't occur to me until they talked about it on Talking Dead.

Can anyone tell me what Judith told Darryl that her Mother told her? That he later asked her if it was true? I replayed and just could not make out the words.

Also, in an earlier episode that I now cannot find, Carol was gathering baked goods in the Commonwealth kitchen when Ezekiel appears in the doorway and they speak to each other. The bad guys soon appear to grab her, Ezekiel disappears but Carol manages to escape. Was he ever there? Did he deliberately distract her? I've never understood that scene.

She's been on other TD episodes and she's been kind of a sour puss. I think she might naturally have a grouchy demeanor on top of being pissed off for some reason. Also I'm sure it was a very long day in uncomfortable clothes and she might have been a little hangry.

She said her mom was going to find her dad and they would all be together soon.

Carol is speaking to Ezekiel while gathering the bread. She hears a noise, turns around and he's not there and he doesn't answer. She knows something is wrong and she manages to escape. They had grabbed Ezekiel. That's why he disappeared.

I think I actually would have preferred that.

The problem for me, this last season, is that I don't think The Commonwealth saga was the capper the show needed or deserved. It was just another iteration of "bad community good guys must conquer." Far too much time introducing new characters nobody cared about, and in a long list of villains over the years I doubt Pamela will even rate as one people remember. This episode did a fairly good job bringing the whole thing to a climax but I just didn't care about Pamela or the stupid Commonwealth. It was a big nothing burger the show hitched its wagon to. And expanding the season from 16 to 24 episodes did not help. It really dragged.

I'm just relieved it's over.

Thank you for the answers iguessnot. I haven't gotten techno enough with the quote feature so hope you see this.

I fall in the category of underwhelmed with not only the finale and the last few years but also have loved the show, lol. More needed to die (All of the newer characters plus Eugene) and Rick needed to land a helicopter on the roof of the helicopter to rescue Judith for it to come full circle.
