I have a lawyer friend in CA and she says that as long as you shadow a lawyer for a certain amount of time ( and sponsor you) and you pass all the exams, you're good to go, but only in CA.

there is an "apprenticeship program" in some states where you work as  legal assistant for a number of years and then take the bar, but I've never met anyone who actually did that.  the only realistic path is to go an accredited law school and then pass the bar.

Retired lawyer here. At one time, it was possible to become a lawyer without going to law school. I don't think any states still allow that. In NJ, as recently as the 1930s it was possible.

In some states, if you are a paralegal you can take the bar and get a license to practice if you pass.
