It really isn't. The K-1 was created to give the couples time in which to plan their wedding and their new life. It gives the couple a padding so that they can book a venue, rent an apartment, and generally prepare for their new life. The people on this show act like it's a "getting to know you" period, but that's not the way it was intended to be used, nor is it the way that the majority of us used it. Applying for the visa is done with the understanding that you and your partner ALREADY know each other and have spent ample amount of time together. I've spent a fair amount of time helping others with the visa on the Visa Journey website. Many of us had already lived abroad together, dated for many years, and even had children with our partners by the time the visa came along.

The show having the couples wait up until the end of the 90 days isn't realistic, either. Most of us got married quickly because we wanted to go ahead and get started on the permanent residency program. Until this show aired I hadn't met a single couple who waited until the 80th day or whatever to marry. It's much more common to marry within the first 2 weeks. The next part of the application process is expensive and complicated. It's also how our foreign spouse is able to work, too. While you CAN apply for a work permit while you wait, it's a separate (pricey) cost and can take months. You don't have to get a work visa, though. Once you marry and apply for Adjustment of Status you're legally allowed to work after it's approved. It can be a shorter process than waiting for the work visa.

The portrayal of the K-1 visa and how it's used is one of the biggest flaws of the series. For those of us who married using the visa, it's also the most frustrating.

Absolutely, although we waited a month to get married

You know, I was just saying the other day, we need more TV shows that glamorize teenage pregnancy.

I can’t speak for this show, but I read a study that showed that 16 and Pregnant was a big factor in the reduction of teen pregnancies.

Thanks for that insight!

I think that's what Loren had an issue with as well with some of the other couples (for all her faults)

Cosign. Of all the things that drive me bugfuck crazy on this stupid show, the fact that the idiot couples always wait for 90 full days to get married drives me nuts! They're always complaining that they have to stay in separate rooms because they're not married--so go to the courthouse and get married! What are they waiting for??

Do women use diaghrams anymore? That’s what I used when I was in college.

I honestly don’t know. It’s weird my doctor never mentioned it as an option

I looked into a diaphragm a few years ago. My doctor said she didn’t know If any US companies make them anymore. I would have had to order one from Canada.

Edit: I went to 3 major pharmacies here and they all didn’t carry them, wouldn’t/couldn’t special order them. which is why I would have had to order online from Canada.

Just as long as that toxic, repellent elf witch Michaela isn't on this season, I am in, though.

Was that the stupid girl that messed with her best friends baby daddy and also got pregnant in order to get her 15 min? She was a little witch.

Lol. It makes no sense. With the complications that can arise in the application process why are they waiting until the last minute? Most of us were like "Let's get this fucker started so that we can move on!"

Micha is Rebecca’s daughters live in boyfriend.

Gotcha.

Well... if daughter and Micah have been living together for a year or more then they are technically married in the eyes of the law.

Why is this weirdo pronouncing the word “America” like she’s Anita in West Side Story?

She's very active in her local community theater.

I ask this plaintively every single time these idiots are whinging about condoms. Diaphragms are cheap, easy to use, and no muss no fuss.

Nah, Makayla is the one who lives with her grandparents because her drug addled mother couldn't raise her. She managed to get knocked up a second time but ran her boyfriend off because he didn't kiss her ass enough. I know who you're thinking of, though. But I can't remember her name. Her awful friend was named Haley.
