lusinia March 3, 2020 Share March 3, 2020 (edited) I happened to turn on Hardball after I read on a thread that it was Chris Matthews last show. It was about 5 minutes after the hour and they were in a commercial break. When they came back, Steve Kornacki was on, and you could tell he was gobsmacked and at a loss for words. They actually went to another commercial break just a few minutes later, probably to give him a chance to compose himself. He had no idea this was about to happen. I felt so badly for him. Because this was clearly unscheduled, even an hour ahead of time, someone speculated online that Chris didn't tell anyone he was going to get up and leave right after his announcement. Sort of going out guns blazing, similar to what Star Jones did when she was "let go". Meghan got at least two things wrong during the segment. The journalist who revealed over the weekend that Matthews made sexist comments to her a few years ago is Laura Bassett, not Bissette, not a hard name to get right (and she was reading it off of her blue card!) Also, Brian Williams didn't claim to have had "military service". He was embedded with some troops and claimed he was in danger when he wasn't, and he did receive some pretty significant punishment. Sunny isn't pro-choice either, btw. I don't think she's full-blown homophobic, but it's very obvious she is not comfortable with it and probably would say so more if she wasn't afraid of being #cancelled. She's pro-diversity when it comes to seeing herself represented via black women and/or fellow prosecutors like Hillary, Kamala, and Stacey Abrams as president or vice-president, but when it's a gay man onstage, it's another story. Keep in mind Sunny has always identified herself as a 'devout Catholic', so it should surprise no one that these would be her beliefs on pro-choice and homosexuality. I'm certainly not giving her a pass, but I need to point out that if you're a devout Catholic and follow the teachings of the church to the letter, then this is what you believe. Which makes me wonder - why was she referring to 'her church' as a 'black church' over the Bloomberg segment ? I don't know of any Catholic church which separates their parishioners on the basis of race, which means I've never heard anyone refer to any Catholic church as a 'black church'. Really not sure where she was going with this one. Also, she said her church talks about politics 'all the time'. I wonder if her church pays taxes then ? One thing we have in this country is 'separation of church and state' - which is supposed to mean 'no political talk' , otherwise you will no longer be tax-exempt. (Plenty of Catholic churches in my diocese has gotten into a lot of trouble over the years). Which Catholic church is she talking about ? I am a Black Catholic and I used to go to a mostly Black Catholic church, so we do exist. I don't understand why people are accusing Sunny of being homophobic just because she is a devout Catholic. The Catholic church is against homosexuality but I believe that people are free to decide for themselves how they feel on the subject, the same for Abortion and the use of birth control. bannana March 3, 2020 Share March 3, 2020 (edited) I am a Hardball fan and a fan of Chris Matthews. He is definitely of that era where men thought it was okay to comment on a woman's appearance, her clothes, etc. I don't see him as a predator and if every man who said inappropriate things to a woman was fired, well, there wouldn't be too many left. I just think they could have ended his time there more appropriately. I suspect what happened is that they told him he had to go and he chose to not play the "retirement" game (a la Star). He brought his wife and adult children to the set for his few minutes of saying goodbye and apologizing. I am glad that men are being called out for this behaviour, but I didn't see him speak inappropriately to women on air (as opposed to men). He was very encouraging and complimentary of younger journalists and reporters that he featured. Maybe he was more inappropriate BTS. What bothered me was Joy's comments (and I generally like Joy). She quoted something he said to Laura Ingraham about being God's gift to men. IMO that is an inappropriate thing for him to say to a fellow colleague. But then Joy says: Laura Ingraham, first of all, come on, and rolls her eyes. She dissed her in the process of relating what Chris said! 🙃 I had so many inappropriate comments made to me when I was mostly the only woman in a business dominated at that time by men. It wasn't great and I am glad it is changing. https://www.mediaite.com/tv/shut-up-chris-joy-behar-lambasts-chris-matthews-for-alleged-sexism-meghan-mccain-defends-msnbc-host/ Edited March 3, 2020 by bannana Chris, not Christ! 5 Link to comment

Interesting to hear there are 'mostly black Catholic churches' in America. I'm in the northeast, attended many Catholic churches in my state and nearby states and New York City - not once have I ever come across a Catholic Church with mostly one race or another. It's always been mixed races which make up each parish. As far as Sunny, she herself has said that she's pro-life because she's a 'devout Catholic' and was brought up that way in the Church. I'm sure her religion dictates her beliefs on sexuality, too - as she has said repeatedly her religion has shaped many aspects of her life (including her marriage). Sure, she has freedom of thought - but it appears she'd rather follow Catholicism influence those thoughts. As a Catholic, I'm sure you realize there are more orders than just Jesuits - some which are very strict. We don't know which order Sunny's church follows. She could follow OCSO, for all we know.
