Culture Check: How can we discuss a character's or actor's appearance without objectifying them? How can we express likes or dislikes and still respect an individual's humanity or be mindful that a character represents a person someone else might relate to or identify with?

He's concerned for Wiley's sake. He didn't fight for custody of Wiley when he found out the baby switch, so he doesn't want Michael to lose custody.

I have never felt so in tune with a show’s budget. As soon as Lucas showed up, my first thought was, “Oh, did Van Hansis not make his episode minimum for December?”

He gave some song and dance about not wanting Wiley to lose a parent again, or something like that. Willow took offense that Lucas was comparing her to Nell and huffed out of the room. The whole scene felt like it was meeting VH's minimum, or the show remembered he was related to a lot of these people and had to say something about the situation. Spoiler: He didn't!

So, Lucas finally reacts to giving up Wiley, and it coming up now understandably BTW makes sense. Why? Because, Willow, the woman who gave up her Wiley to Lucas and Brad to keep him safe just took him away from Michael, the person that LUCAS gave Wiley up to because it was "the right thing to do."

But, for some reason, Lucas reacting to the situation with Wiley, giving his two cents, makes no sense? Not quite seeing that.

When ones takes into consideration that her passport was definitely not in the place she left it since her things were moved out of the house she was living in at the time of her coma, or that her credit cards were probably expired when she purchased her ticket, that Lulu is quite the Spencer. Luke's daughter through and through. /s

How delusional of him. But it's fine because I hated L&L. These days, I just really can't stand the Spencer clan. 

I guess CM is trying hard to sell his pairing because he knows how deeply unpopular it is. If pairing Drew and Willow sends them off screen for prolonged periods of time, then who am I to say no to that. Just in time for Scout needing a new mommy.

About the episode. Does anyone get the sense that Emma left California and that her parents have no clue about it?

I'll add my voice to the chorus of WTF was the Lucas/Willow scene about. It felt out of place for him to just come charging like that. A good argument might have been that the only reason Willow is Wylie's mother now is because he gave her full access to the child because he thought she was his mother and that she should have a place in his life instead of the whole All-About-Michael? 

Sonny clutching at his chest like he's having a heart attack is such a sych move. It sucks, but Sonny dying from a heart attack is as plausible as BLQ never having been pregnant before.

Do we know what exactly Brennan is going to do with Valentin once he finds him? They've been partners and rivals. I can't imagine the WSB wants any of their past going public. 

Side note: I wish JPS would either stay or go. Valentin isn't so compelling a character that I'm grateful for the times he's on and I don't usually miss him when he's gone.

Thank you the background info, I wasn’t watching much when this happened.

My rationale for thinking this is out of nowhere (although I didn’t mention it here), is because I haven’t seen the character in years (show’s choice to have him offscreen), has now been recast by an actor I remember in a different role on a much beloved by me, different show.

Up to now, I saw him in a few scenes, but don’t recall him mentioning Wiley - maybe in his first scenes w/ Ava/Maura?

Also, does he nave a link to Nina that I don’t know, and knows where she lives?

It’s traceable regardless unless she’s using a fake passport, as there will be a flight manifest. She likely has her own credit cards and had plenty of time to secure a new one since waking up, so it’s not like Dante or Laura have immediate access to her purchase history. They’d need Spinelli to hack airline, credit cards, phone records to figure any of this out. Lulu’s actions were only vulnerable to someone like the WSB, who tailed her immediately. They haven’t established that the WSB is a danger to Charlotte, only Valentin, and Lulu has already expressed she couldn’t care less about what happened to him, so I don’t think she was worried about “disappearing” to that level. 

Anyway, the show has already made it clear that Lulu didn’t do a good job hiding her tracks, since she’s already being followed.

I missed a few scenes of yesterday’s episode and I know we’re all going “not gonna happen” when it comes to Sonny’s heart clenching, but…

The hug that Genie Francis gave to his character brought tears to both their eyes and MB was full teary eyed when he talked to Kristina near the tree.

If it’s his exit, it would really be a great one due to the unexpectedness and lack of drama, which I would applaud.

Me! Absolutely! And she was so bad at it! The way she jumped in to stop Anna from calling Robin? Telling her 'Oh, I just talked to Mom' blah, blah. My radar went off and I knew neither Robin or Patrick know where Emma is or what she's doing, or rather, lied to them about where she was.

When the WSB agent tailing Lulu told Brennan she (the agent) knew where Valentin was, Brennan told her, "You know what to do," which I took to mean Valentin is going to get shot. Maybe Sonny will get his heart, LOL.

I’m not a fan of Valentin or Charlotte so, meh. They’re also diminishing my interest in Lulu.

Didn’t Ava sell Wyndemere using Lucy as her real estate agent? So the Cassadines bought it from her anonymously?

And Ava is still not investigating the loss of her money?

Glad that for once, Anna wasn’t a sucker and got background info on Emma.

You is paying the tuition and rent for Emma for her stay in PCU if she was covering up being expelled from school from her parents.

Was there beer and drugs at Emma's little party that apparently shutdown the dorm.

Poor Rocco. Both parents left him on Christmas to go after Charlotte who does not want to Valentin. If that little tracker gets Valentin caught, Charotte is never going to forgive her but Valentin is smarter than Lulu so he will most likely find it and throw it away,

Anna hasn't cried in days, and properly checked out Emma's story. Hopefully her New Year's resolution was to snap the hell out of it.

Who will Brenda and Kelly Emma and Joss fight over? Gio would not be believable. They need a  Dylan Johnny Z type.

Can someone explain to me who is running the Cassadine estate (not Alexis, not Valentine) and how they can take it away from Nik after a couple of decades and give it to an illegitimate infant? And how they can take away Wyndermere from Ava after she was given it in her divorce settlement without going to court? The whole plot is sketchy AF.

Speaking of sketchy, maybe Lulu's passport was still effective. But her credit cards would have expired and I know from experience that it takes a couple of weeks for new ones to be sent to you in the mail. And how entitled to travel first class!

If this is the new Emma, I like it.  Something more than the perfect child that she was. This is the most I've liked Anna in years as she was calling Emma out.

Oh please. They did that whole thing when Wee Cameron and MarbleMouthSpencer were competing over Wee Emma and when Joss was like the Child of the Corn. It was distasteful then and I certainly don't want to see a rehash of it now, when we know that mini-Cujo will win this time around.

As I stated above, I HATE this change they’ve made to Emma. Watching her lying and lying and then trying to shift blame for something she was responsible for and not taking responsibility? This is NOT the child of Robin!Fucking!Scorpio-Drake! There was just no need to do this to her. And now, in light of learning of her expulsion, she totally stole that money for her damn self. And the absolute BITCHINESS referring to the that gross quadrangle when they were 7? I am also not a fan of the unexplained personality change in Emma.  I'm going to need a significant backstory before I can buy it.

Here's the thing with recasts: There will inherently be some degree of change, such as with nuKristina, where the previous actor might have been given the same written dialogue, but emphasized different words or used some other method to put a different spin on it.  Even CM's Drew prior to the Willow fiasco might fall into this category.

But then we have nuEmma, where the entire behavior pattern is altered, and it's the content of the dialogue, and not just the chosen spin or emphasis, that's different.  For me, that's essentially the introduction of a new character, and would be better serviced if they treated it as such.

And yet, as much as I don't like the changes, I am so glad they've given Anna another sphere of interaction and potential storylines, especially having just complained about how isolated they'd made the character.

I hope this is Valentin's exit story.  No spoiler, just a hope.

He could have found out from Maxie, who has been to her place multiple times. Lucas and Maxie have been cousins since they were young children (Bobbie and Tony adopted wee Lucas; Tony's brother Frisco and Felicia had Maxie). Nina is Maxie's SIL/James West's aunt. Maxie's late husband, Nathan, grew up believing he was Nina's younger brother although he was actually her biological cousin. (Leisl was Nathan's birth mother but she gave him to her sister Madeline to raise with Nina.) Nina and Maxie are close.

Who? I don't understand. Are we talking about Emma getting hostile toward Jack (Brennan) while in a scene with Grandma Anna?  Things have been tense between Anna and Jack and Emma has always adored Grandma.

Go watch clips of robin in the early 90s. She was not a saint as a teen. This emma had more personality imo

I love Hudson West, but maybe they could just SORAS Jake and cast him as a bad boy type. They could reasonably go darker with Jake and i'd buy it.

This has probably been the most extensive amount of time I've seen the young adult set in college, at least on GH. It's usually just a year, or two at most, and then they have their degree and are ready to start doing whatever. One Life to Live is the only show I think actually do the entire college set from start to finish with Jessica and then Natalie.

I don't understand why Hudson West disappeared in the first place.  He was so good and he was just disappeared.  I don't know if it was a BTS thing, but it makes zero sense to me.

I watched Robin grow up-I never said she was a saint, nor did I say that Emma should be one. And Robin’s acting out made sense-death of both parents and trauma. What’s this Pod!Emma’s excuse when up until last year or the last time we saw her-maybe two years ago? She was a basically good character with no issues. Plus, this actress has shown no warmth, but brattiness and rudeness.

But potato and potahto  and all that.

I realize I’m alone in my opinion of this Emma I don’t recognize and I’m fine with it.

You're not alone.  If the writers want to give us a back story that makes some sense of the changes in Emma, I'll reconsider.  But I suspect it was just convenient for them to give a character an off-screen personality change, and I don't like it.

I don't have an opinion on Emma yet but she deserves a little time to settle in.

But I agree with other comments that they need a bad boy thrown into the mix. (Maybe Isaiah has a younger brother?) It's weird that the current crop of kids is so wholesome. In real life that would be great but on a soap full of messed up parents?

Emma has literally been on the canvas two episodes.  Not sure why it's expected we already have a detailed history of the last few years of her life.  Personally, if they brought her back and all she was was sunshine and roses (which is essentially what we saw in the very limited time we saw the character in the last several years) there'd be zero reason for her to be on the canvas.  As has been said, the late teen/early twenties set needs a shake-up and a Mary Sue won't due.
